Random thought: Would you play an MMo based on the Tron IP?

Dude, did you just call Tron a ridiculous scenario while comparing it to Star Wars?! LMAO!! Sure, cuz ships really do fly through a vacuum like aircraft and we really can use the force, we just havent figured it out yet....Star Wars is WAY MORE BELIEVABLE! lol :-)
They are both obsurd...that is why they are called science FICTION! Besides, the quality of the movie has absolutely NO impact on the quality of the game based on it (Matrix online comes to mind) |

Random thought: Would you play an MMo based on the Tron IP?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 12/20/11 10:43:23 PM
Two factions, for or against users. Arena PVP consists of light cycle battles, disc wars, CTF, etc Non-arena gameplay would revolve around the conflict within the grid, program independence vs the Users. Vehicles, cycles, recognizers, jets, City to city solar sails, etc. I am just pulling crap off the top of my head, but PvP combat would be more games based, etc. Thoughts? |

Skyrim Online Mod (yeah.. it's happening)
General Gaming « General Discussion 12/16/11 9:04:54 AM
Someone tried this with Oblivion, not sure how it came out but for the time i was waiting for it, it never really worked. Here's hoping...Adding online play is a HUGE undertaking for a dev team. |

General: Ultima Discussions Denied by EA
News Discussion « General Discussion 12/15/11 8:40:23 AM
Note they specifically cited the 'Ultima Online IP' when addressing the matter. Ultima does have other forms with which they might be talking and this was a crafty semantically denial. Doubttful, but would be amusing after the fact.

MMORPGs in 2012 - anybody else overwhelmed?

I found this great MMO called Skyrim...but the players in the game aren't really that talkative.... |

Are Voice Overs destined to be the new "must have" feature, or just a gimmick?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/05/11 12:43:46 PM
Either way, i don't think it matters. Most companies simply cannot afford it. MAYBE< if SWTOR is hugely successful, it will encourage others to try it. But if its even considered 'Meh' then it will stand as a justification for NOT having voice overs. |

World of Warcraft: Activision-Blizzard Stock Downgraded on Declining WoW Subs
News Discussion « General Discussion 11/22/11 5:31:45 PM
This was inevitable as nothing lasts forever. In fairness, Ultima Online was not doing anywhere near as well when it turned 7.
This makes you wonder, when will 'Titan' launch and will it see the second coming of mmorgs and a resurgance for Blizzard in the genre. |

Why all the hate for linear?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 11/22/11 5:16:11 PM
You know, before Skyrim, I might have agreed, linear story isn't so bad. But Bethesda has proven it, time and again, you can have it both ways...and the healthy mix of story and sandbox will keep me playing their game for a long, long time...and it's not even an MMO~! |

Yea, I think it is time to pass an international law...all convicted hackers are put to death. The planet is overpopulated anyway. |

Originally posted by warmaster670 If you have a 30 or 40 year old who actually wants to hang out with teenagers, in a game or otherwise...then there is probably something to worry about.
You are assuming they are playing the game harmlessly together when if fact most of the time we simp[ly are not aware of how old each player is....To tell you the truth, when I find out that a player is very young, I pretty muich want nothing to do with them from that point forward. I have no busniess hanging out with someone elses kids, unless they are a relative.
More to the point, I have absolutely no interest in hanging out with players of the 'Chick Norris' generation, kid's who are still in high school, or worse, kids who are young enough that I am the same age as their father. I know there are plenty of young gamers who state they prefer hanging out with older people because they are super 'mature', but let me clue you in...most of us older players do not want to hang out with you. In the real world, it is a socially unacceptable paradim for us to interact if we are not actually related.
In an mmorpg, once you let the age genie out of the bottle, then you are forced to employ a real-world social ruleset. Take the 'anonymous' component out of the mmorpg player and then see how little difference there is left with older people wanting to spend time with young strangers. Hell, it is agruably easier for some sicko to meet and speak with young kids in an MMORPG than it is on facebook because of the anonymity it offers..
Simply stated, Kids should hang with kids, and adults should hang with adults...if certain interactions in RL are considered inappropriate, why are they suddenly OK in the game environment?

I love it when people whine 'Age has nothing to do with it.' Seriously....I am 38 and it would be obsurdly awkward and probably inappropriate for me to go hang out with a bunch of teenagers at someones house.
So why the hell is it any different in a game environment? Adults hanging out with kids in an MMO is ok, but the same on facebook is a pedophile!?
Hell, yes, I'd like to see age verification servers...just do not know how it would be done or enforced. |

Want to know why Skyrim is so successful in the MMORPG crowd?
General Gaming « General Discussion 11/16/11 4:49:02 PM
The irony these days is that 'social' mmorpg'ers seem to be in the minority now. Half the time when I try to talk with someone in a game I get treated like a leper for my efforts. So, If I will find myself alone most of the time anyways, I might as well play the best game possible for one person...so Skyrim it is! Now, add to that, better graphics, exploration, combat, crafting, housing, etc than most MMORPG's that it's a no-brainier. Hell maybe we should all get together and form a Skyrim Skype channel so we can all do 'guild chat' while we play our solo game! |

How do you play Skyrim? Follow the stars and moon! No compass!

Yep, got rid of the compass and the markers...now traveling is an adventure and not just something to breeze through between adventures!

General Gaming « General Discussion 11/15/11 7:57:49 AM
Skyrim would be a fantastic game for two-player cop-op. particularly that you can hire mercenaries to follow you around, it would be pretty fun to let a friend be that merc instead. That would make it even better to roam around lost with a friend! Great find...I hate the compass!! |

'Server'ing all Ages Together, Seperately
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 11/07/11 10:59:02 PM
Ok, someone has probably brought this up before, but why not have some of hte different servers of a game be segregated by ages backet? I know, it would be impossible to really enforce, but before thinkin of how, I am asking if it would be desirable.
Here is a thought....we of all ages play on the same server together. People from 13 (and probably younger) all the way up to us old fart gamers in their 30's and 40' (and probably older there too). No one even thinks twice about it. But now, imagine that, instead of a server...we are all hanging out at a Bar together...now that would just be completely akward!
Who the hell hangs out with a bunch of small kids....and same for the kids. If my kids came home and told me they just spend a couple of hours hanging out with some 30-something dudes, I'd be pissed!
This thread got me thinking about it:
http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/331248/I-hate-you-people.html
Wouldn't most players actually have more fun playing with people they can relate to, personally? I mean, most High school kids would probably wanna play with other kids. I can't help but wonder if this kludging together everyone, regardless of age and life experience, onto the same server represents part of the anti-social problems in MMORG's today.
Discuss!
