Returning to Old Games: Is it worth it?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 11/23/09 9:38:06 PM
I do this a lot, actually. However, the results are usually the same.
Each time I go back, its for less time.
WoW for example. I think the first time was for like maybe 6 months casually. Then a break of a fw months...then i pick it up again...for maybe 3 months,. etc etc...now I simply can't bring myself to touch it anymore.
The Last game I played with any kind of longevity was FFXI...for maybe about 2 years starting with its PS2 launch. I think the difference there for me was that I had a great guild...awesome people. But, even then, i can't bring myself to go back now
after a while...mmos feel more like a job that anything else.....same mindless gameplay over and over and over and over...
Once that occurs to you, you can't really go back anymore |

Ultima IV: Best Graphics Ever!! 16 wonderful colors! |

I can't imagine why they wouldn't. I mean they did for FF12. The more systems the better. I expect tehy are planning on it and can't say til its a done-deal.
For those who are about to whine about consoles and mmos, blah blah blah, oh shaddap! play it on your PC and no worries. Unless they up and tell you, you can't tell what system the people around you are using. :-P |

They need to get this out before WOW's Cataclysm

Originally posted by Kyleran As I understand it, this is the direction they are taking FF14, more casual friendly and solo-able, though i expect combat will still favor group play...though i don't think it will make much of a dent on WoW either. I'll still play it though /shrug |

FF14 is supposed to be oriented more to casual players, or so I've read. Which does make some sense. If you already have a hardcore game, do you really want to compete with yourself?
It is also supposed to be both Console AND PC playable, just like FFXI.
Beyond that, there is plenty of information out there that is pretty easy to get to, so if U wanna know more look it up. |

The biggest advantage to the console market is the unrestricted resale of used games.
So, when you walk into a gamestop and see 95% of the store filled with Console-related games and hardware, and one token shelf of PC games....this is a big reason why.
Stores can turn a profit multiple times,on one copy of a console game....once on the initial sale, and next when someone trades it in for 20 bucks and they turn around and sell it for 40.
While I remember the days when this was possible with PC games, rampant piracy killed it for the PC market. While you can pirate Console games, it is a much more involved process.
IF a restriction or ban is ever placed on the resale of Console games....the gaming market will turned on its ear....which is why io don't forsee this happening anytime soon.
For me? Games are games...they're either fun or they suck...the platform is irrelevant. PLayed games on both PC and console that are just awesome....its really about teh games and not the platform. |

Final Fantasy XIV: Buy FFXIII, Get into FFXIV Beta?
News Discussion « General Discussion 11/08/09 7:45:05 AM
This is of course presuming that every system that FF13 will work for is a target system for FF14. |

Pirates of the Burning Sea: Military Personnel Get Six Months Free
News Discussion « General Discussion 10/31/09 9:45:39 PM
GREAT PROMO< anything that thanks our service personnel is a great idea in my book.
It is an American Company, so of course its for American Military Personnel.
As for people from other countries who are expressing a problem with this....whats your problem, did we recently spank your country? Look, as soon as your country makes a MMORPG, they can offer the same deal to your military personnel :-) |

I love all the comments on western vs eastern philosophy and just because 'we westerners don't get it' doesn't make it wrong.
I'm not saying its wrong....but it eastern authorities have to make a rule to enforce a philosophy, then apparently the eastern masses 'don't getting it' either.
EDIT: corrected my horrible grammar lol was late for a meeting! |

lol for some reason, I find it obsurdly amusing that so many people are yelling at the gamer for a bug, like its his fault.
If you game is broken, its your fault for releasing a broken POS. It's called QA and I don't wanna hear whining that MMORPG's can possibly test games like that. Every console game has to, and most PC game, because they don't get to keep updating the world and fix it. It's MMORPG companies being cheap and making you PAY to test their crap.
On top of that, now you can get banned from a game you paid for because they can't make a game that isn't broken. That's rich. If its a known issue then it should already be fixed, or the quest disabled until its fixed.
I'm sorry, I bought this game as-is, and I should get penalized if it doesn't work completely, cuz I didn't make it that way, Frankly, the devs should be kissing his arse that he reported it, "good little tester, thanks for pointing out our laziness, now where is last months payment?"
MMORPG devs = Sloppy ....and our acceptance of releasing buggy games made them this way.
In fairness, i do not know HOW buggy FE is, so this is a generalization that may or may not apply to this release, and I defer to the people playing it as to how many issues it has....but if you find em, get away or your a criminal!
The worst part is that so many people miss this point and just assume the guy's just an exploiting shmuck. Maybe he is, maybe he isn't, I'll never know. But IF he did voluntarily report it(and not reporting it after a GM asked him what he was doing) and they banned him....seriously? |

What type of death penalty would you like/want FFXIV to have?
General Discussion « Final Fantasy XIV 10/27/09 12:44:50 PM

Whats the chance that blizzard will make sandbox MMO?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 10/25/09 10:26:25 AM
Speaking strickly from a business standpoint, i think it would be a great idea.
Lets face it, they already own the theme park market. So unless they plan to compete with themselves and eventually do away with WoW, their goal should be to reach players NOT playing WoW.
Of course, this could be in an entirely different direction....so who knows. So, i think they're is a chance. but i couldn't give odds on how much of a chance. /shrug |
