The ideal game supports all playstyles.

It gives pure PvE players safe havens to calmly level by themselves.

It gives PvP fans areas where they get a bit better ressource per time ratios, but are in constant danger of PvP.

It gives casual gamers smaller goals they can archieve fast, or work easily upon by just logging some quarter hours per day.

It gives the hardcore player complex dungeons that require good strategy and high concentration over hours to solve them.

And it puts all the RP stuff and customization extras in the cash shop, so those pesky RP'ers can pay for all the work the devs put into making those useless items.

:P

I guess I fall into the Casual PvE of yours, but what I really am is:

I'm a socializer the most, I enjoy hanging out with people, diving into the lore and the world of the game. I love to be a part of the game world, the lives, the events. I'm a RP'er, the kind that always gets the short stick in games, that always end up having to go to the cash shop in F2P games because anything else sold would disrupt the prechious PvE players and the adored royal PvP players... Yet, I love hanging with people, doing my role to right wrong(or make wrong?) in the world the devs built.

I'm an explorer second, enjoying to step off the beaten track, and just head towards the horizon, where something might have caught my eye, like a odd rock formation or a building that looked neat, or maybe it was a forrest? Or even maybe I just closed my eyes, turned around and just picked a direction to go on random?

I'm an achiever, sometimes finding some enjoyment in getting the nice loots that I can display, or hunt down this foul beast before anyone else does. But... I mostly have better things to do.

I'm a PvP almost never, as I've seen the PvP crowd grow more and more vile, into a crowd I barely want to hang around, or even be in the same zipcode as. I don't min/macx, I don't look for loopholes or ways to make an equal fight unequal... in my favor.

I don't bring 10 friends to a 3 vs 3 PvP challenge, to make sure that the PvP'er who actually brought only 2 friends gets his face full of tea. So... I don't PvP... There is no reason to. Even if I kill someone, he's just gonna get up and play along like he never died, probably including some cursewords, and accusations of cheating, and threats of how I'll get my derriere handed to me.

I really don't PvP, since the players themselves, really ruin my imersion... When did you see a royal knight or stormtrooper or a policeman jump on top of a corpse going "biatch, u such noob, my grandma could teabag you, LOL ROTFLMAO, n00b! j0 pwn3d! Go back to being a carebear!"... Well, I'd rather not see that...

So I keep my PvP in FPS and RTS games, and don't do it in my RPG's or MMORPG's.

It's not Star Wars, by the classical sense.

So, its doing well for a semi Star Wars wannabe.

Mostly because it has glowbats and is derrived from a game series that kicked arse and had quality when other games didnt have quality, stories, arses nor glowbats.

I loved SWG housing. I would go out of my way to build my little cabin at some far out remote location that had the remoteness and stunning views as I "needed".

One of those locations, a small island I gave to a buddy of mine (I was moving to a larger island to setup a guild complex). He later sold that "land" for a ammount that was more than me, my cousin and my buddy's bank accounts combined.

And we played all the way up to the NGE.

But I admit, SWG's housing had its flaws. Mainly because proper developement stopped before launch, and the failsafes and secondary options never got into the game.

Basicly, there never were a option besides building your alotted housing slots to the max.

There were no storefronts you could rent in the cities, there were no bank expansion you could rent, there were no rentable crafting stations in the cities, simply said... You had to build in the iron ring if you wanted the possibilities housing gave...

There were no other options or choices...

And when the noobie devs halted the decay... Urban sprawl became a nightmare.

My uncle called me up(he never calls!), and all I could hear was a "squeeeeeeeeee".

It's been 13-14 years since we spent a whole summer at his "office", where he, me and his team of computer salesmen ignored the business and just Duked it out. A summer filled with pizza(we even got the pizza delivery guy to play with us), soda, beer and...kickassery.

We've been waiting a long time for this...

No vote from me.

Fallen Earth LLC should be on the list. Despite all the troubles, the company and crew is awesome.

Daggerfall.

Morrowind felt rather bleak compared to that, just a tiny game with more bells and whistles(gfx wise).

And then came Oblivion, with was bleak compared to Morrowind, but with more bells and whistles...

*sigh*

Nope, no clans, no clanwars yet, but there may be soon as we are getting 0.5.4 tomorrow. I think international release will include all of the features when its released.

But for all that is good about WoT, being unable to play with friends without paying money, sucks ass.

0.5.4 doesnt say to have that... Sadly.

And still, it is a released game...

and don't get me wrong, I love WoT, but I don't see it as a MMORPG, more like a Battlefield Heroes game.. wich aint a MMORPG either hehe.

It's not an mmo yet.  It will be at launch though.  There will be a huge clan battle system with people holding territory and all that.  The system is similair to Europa or Hearts of Iron.  It is closed beta.  Before you make a determination that it won't be an MMO, why don't you look at what it's supposed to be at launch.

this. the persistant battle for territory isn't in the game yet, but will be. so it's kind of strange to remove a pre-launch game just because the "mmo-ish" features haven't been implemented yet.

Hmm, did anyone ask the russian players if those features are there?

since afterall, the game has reached RELEASE in russia...

Somehow, I could not find the "BIG" features in the patchnotes, despite that the patch for the european beta, will be the version the russian release game is playing on...

6 years on, still nothing touches WoW in scope and professionalism - why?

Well, since WoW, most western games have been cashgrabs, trying to copy WoW's formula. Making WoW clones or importing run of the mill koreangrinders.

Instead of building, inventing, creating, they went "copying"... And, with investors wanting fast cash, most clones and even koreangrinders were released as half steamy piles of poodoo riddled with bugs and unplayability.

Add to that, most games released since, barely bothered to market themselves, except for inside the small mmorpg communities that A: hated WoW, B: allready played WoW. Thus, trying to steal the players of WoW rather than create their own.

But... if yer allready playing WoW, why would you leave it for a half complete bug riddled game, when you have the better game allready? And, if ye hate WoW, why would you bother to go play this "new" release, thats almost a carbon copy of the game you hate?

So no, nothing will touch WoW, except age... Not until developers stop tossing koreangrinders and clones at us, and till they stop releasing buggy piles of steaming poodoo. Ofcourse, the last one relies much on investors, investors that think tossing untested, half assed, cut in half clones at the public will make them earn the big bucks.

Me too...

Barely a game since have managed to grab my attention in such a way. Actually, no game since has managed...

I'm happy Interplay managed to get this far. They made Fallout, a game thats etched into memory of all gamers who were around at that time...

Fallout 3... Didn't really.

I couldnt get the registration page to work at all.. So I'm skipping this title.

As for saying "vanity items is okay for malls".. Thats like saying "Let X playerbase pay, as long as I don't need to".

and saying they are not ok is like saying "If I cant afford a ferrari everybody should use fords"

as long as you both have a car that takes you where you want to go fast, why would you care if the guy next to you is driving someting prettier for $200k extra bucks?

Yeah... the problem with your analogy is that there is a very high cost associated to manufacturing a new Ferrari, and limited production of them which inflates their cost due to scarcity of supply. Those "vanity items" only need to be 'manufactured' once, which is still maybe an afternoon of work for one person, and then they can be infinitely replicated.

so what? thats between game developers and their customers. If you feel that the cash isnt well spent, well...dont spend it?

I'd rarely if ever buy a vanity item, but if they price is fair and the item cool I might aswell....its up to me to decide

the thing that we all should focus on, is that looking cool isnt actually giving me an edge in the game....thats why I support vanity malls' existance...even if I dont plan to buy

Vanity items don't give your playstyle an edge you mean...

What if it was me saying the same, except that it was a uber PvP item? How much would the playerbase affected by that cry? While I could happily sit in my corner and say "H2P babeh! I dun have to pay a buck to play... It's only meh PvP items in the store anyway, it doesnt affect me a bit. Let PvP'ers pay for the game, w00t!"

If I got to make a SW MMO...

Space would be an important part of it.

Nor would I make it to "mimic" movies, and have someone "whisper" in the ear of the player that he's the uberest uberduper hero ever... The player would be an average Joe/Jane in the huge galaxy, making his and hers way to greatness or the shadows.

But space... would be important... We're talking Star Wars here...

15$ max, with NO item mall.

Item malls always lets one part of their playerbase pay for the rest. And even if I'm not the one paying (I wouldnt buy PvP gear or XP potions...even if they tuned down xp earning to a crawl so people would buy em... wich they do), onr of my buddies surely would. Since I have friends of all player types.

From the crafters to the questers to the PvP'ers to the explorers to the RP'ers to the socilisers etc etc etc. I have friends... A flat fee is fair to all of us.

As for saying "vanity items is okay for malls".. Thats like saying "Let X playerbase pay, as long as I don't need to".

I think the best solution is just to seperate your appearence and your gear that affects your stats, like Champions.  You could still unlock new clothing pieces but the idea is that you do not have to wear them if you do not want to.  If you want to run around without a shirt you should be able to do so and not have it negatively impact your stats.

Que the "WE NEED TO SEE THEIR REAL ARMOR YOU FOO!!! FOR PVP AND REALISM SAKE!!!!" flood.

My money would not be on Potter.

But only because Potter never hooked me. It would probably be a good cash grab if the devs liked that sorta thing (Looking at you SOE, Cryptic, EA, etc etc etc etc), or a good game... If anyone remembers how to make those?

If I had money tho, I would have put them on Wheel of Time...

I'm not the one to have the patience required for pro crafting.

But however, I do enjoy crafting, because I have plenty of friends who have crafting as their main game, and not simply Questchasing or Player massacring.

And, I usually earn well by selling them resources I pick up along my way.

And I would really miss my friends and that income, if there were no crafting. Ofcourse, crafting has to have some quality to it... So it's fun to do for my friends, and not just crafting being ammo dispenser or time/money sink "patched on to maybe get some crafter player" type of game.

I'm a bit confused really.

Where were the cuts?

Icarus or Fallen Earth LLC?

I can't find any official read about where the cuts where. Because even mmo newssites mix these two up. Some mentions that the cuts been on the "company behind the iphone Dexter game".. Wich is Icarus and not so much Fallen Earth LLC. While some kinda make it sound like all the 75%(or more) cuts have been all Fallen Earth staff.

I'm confused.
