28/01/2012 patch notes - LOL REALLY!!!
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 1/28/12 7:16:34 AM
Originally posted by Donanit 6 months on 2 accounts for me. I'll play it for now and hope for the best but I just logged in an hour ago and canceled my subs so I don't 'accidentally' pay again later this year. I doubt the software will still be on my PC by that point. ( I do still have hope as I like the game but it is looking bleaker to me each day - or at least each patch day) |

28/01/2012 patch notes - LOL REALLY!!!
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 1/28/12 7:12:50 AM
I am reasonably certain this is a 'band-aid'. Something they could put in place (i.e. tested and working) because whatever they were actually trying to patch fell flat. If there wasn't 'something' people would probably /ragequit-unsub, even a lot of moderates. As it is, I see this hurting them as far as numbers go.
I know things like this happen, but do it on a scheduled maintenance day or at least a weekday when some people are working or sleeping to prep for work. Their team leadership is monumentally bad. |

Just as many (or more) don't care or DO support it. *shrug* I couldn't care either way. It's just another soapbox to allow a 'group' to get a tidbit into the news. (Not saying right or wrong, just that it is an opportunity) |

You can and I do. I re-rolled a few days back and sent 100K so I dint have to wory about bags while I was getting out of the starter areas. As long as you don't do 'bad things', it's prefectly normal/correct. |

With gaming as with all aspects of life (real, lived life) people more and more want NOW and instant gratification. If its easy (generally not necessarily hand me the golden ring) they feel good. If it become a ''grind" as it used to be in the olden days it becomes less likely people will continue to play. NOW. NOW. NOW. Part of this is the new lifestyle, fast, high-speed, on the go busy world. Back in the day only 'geeks' played. Now the average household has a gamer squirreled away somewhere. Even old grannies are doing it...immediate rewards = continuing subscribers, which is the lifeblood of games.
Sometimes though, things can be over done and I think SWToR may be guilty of this. I don't regret my paying sub. I am however disappointed that I paid for multiple months. (I tend to throw $$ at games and get disappointed so another $50 or so wont matter much in the long run but still I wish I hadn't) I suppose I had hoped SWToR would be the return of that 'cherry high' that I have found lacking in many MMOs over the last few years. I like it but I don't know if it will be the game to hold me (on a daily basis say) for the next year+. Each day I think this is less and less likely. |

It's already starting with this game.

BioWare slipped up when it came to some aspects of testing. They did NOT do a lot of PvP balance testing. Had they done so, the level 50s (and preferably 40-somethings) would never have been in PvP with the 10s and 20s, which as most people know was the case for the 1st month. Bolster does add some balance but it does not add skills/gear. 50s in the mix made the PvP annoying. Now there are groups of level 50 Battlemasters just running around killing (or trying) to kill each other and the most OP wins. Beware to that newbie level 50 going in to get his 1st piece of purple gear. A good many folks that I know are re-rolling because they are finding PvP over 50 boring. A lot of those battlemasters were farming the PvP wzs before the bracket was in place. Serious PvP testing by BioWare would have shown this and it could have been avoided. Of course, in a game where you can hit max level in less than 2 weeks by playing regularly (and not around the clock) has caused concerns as well.
Don't get me wrong, I LIKE the game. Play it every day. Looking forward to testing more classes/toons but honestly, I question how this will all turn out in 6 months. Time will tell. |

1.1: Greatest Catastrophe ever?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 1/18/12 1:14:56 PM
If there is a serious exploit that allows maxxing valor in (insert short period of time) they best fix THAT pretty fast. Other wise they will unbalance the PvP bracket they just created.
Otherwise...blah... |

I have a high end system and would love to run the game at max-tippy-top settings. *shrug* I can't. I still like the game.
The big thing for me will be what they fix in the 'big patch' looming out there. I know a lot of folks in my guild are in the same boat so I assume a lot of folks across the board are as well. Fixing things like today's patch (resetting intances) and last week's (fixing the Sith title) are minor updates basically candy. Fix the issues that affect people seriously.
We'll see over the next few weeks if they actually do something that is of value. I'll decide to play going forward on that and that alone. |

Honestly ! Who would actually pay 15 a month for this???

I may have already posted in the ...wtf...(I must be tired as I never 'wtf'...) 52 pages of this post...but I would. 2 accounts for 6 months. Not happy with some of the stupidity factors of thier customer service ...but I still love the game.

Disabling forums during Maintenance
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 1/06/12 4:39:23 AM
I love the game but once again they screwed this up. Bad enough to announce a 3rd downtime in the same week (however needed/legit it might be) but to soften the blow THIS time they announced their ETA - GOOD GOOD - of 2 hours. Of course, they couldn't make the delivery in that time - BAD BAD- and extended it another 2 hours. I roll out servers as a part of my job. You always over-estimate. Bad enough for the poor sleepless bastards here in the US but for regular daytime players in Europe? Serious Charlie Foxtrot.. |

I am glad they are fixing things, certainly if they fix that bloody bug that makes it so folks have to quit/rejoin guilds just to chat it will be a good thing. Also, exploits need to be fixed quickly so they don't drastically imbalance things in-game which causes a lot of unhappiness.
That said, I despise poor customer service. I logged on a bit ago and read the patch notes (yes I read those and alerts via the patcher) about yesterday's patch and the possible upcoming patch (which now has the servers offline). Basically it was posted to 'read the forums' about details and to watch for more info/announcements. 15 minutes before they took the servers offline, they 'announced' it and said to go check the forums for details...which say to 'watch out for announcements and that patching might happen'. Fix issues but give notifications. I love the game but the customer service is sadly pathetic. Whoever is leading their CS department should be fired AND sued for truly epic failures in this deployment. |

Dual specs are coming to SW:TOR - Confirmed
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 1/04/12 6:58:59 AM
I play a Scoundrel and find the class inherently flawed. Essentially we're a hybrid class stealth/DPS + heals. If you go up the DF or Scrapper trees ( I went Scrapper) we're a mêlée DPS with a few ranged capabilities. Sure I have a knockdown and can do some very nice burst DPS but against level 50s (I am 50 BTW), the knockdowns only work some of the time and stealth '911' pop (which is the only stealth you can use in combat) is on a 2 minute cool down. Useful but for end game instances...fair far less than a tank or a true healer..or a true 24/7 DPS for that matter.
I had to put points into sawbones just to be able to level and keep my companion alive. *shrug* I like the toon and the storyline but I think they did him an injustice making him a hybrid.
Dual classing would at least allow me to switch to healing spec (which I don't WANT to do) and be effective in end game stuff as an 'off-healer'. Right now, Inquisitors, Sith Warriors and BHs all pack a lot more than I can handle..aside from my occasional knockdown...*sigh* |

Originally posted by bdew This is the correct answer. It is now an active/use-while-questing skill. If you put slicing on a toon that is questing, you will get boxes which are free, being part of the environment (same as scavenging all the raw materials are just laying around). They just made it so lvl 10 crafting toons can't amass huge sums of wealth. Not happy about it but such as it is. I personally had a level 20 toon that I wasn't doing anything with and was just sending my 2 companions out on slicing missions. Of course, that was giving them enough $$ to fund his cybertech and investigation (investigation IMO is quite sad....) skills. I didn't play it AFK or with macros, of course. I have the game on my laptop that I can monitor and keep active while I do RL work.

I have 3 crafters. One has 1 companion, 1 has 2 and 1 has 3. Having a ball with them all. |

Originally posted by sanosukex I'll listen to any opinions but when the OP said 5%/95% split, it immediately discredits them. It is about 15% cutscene (maybe 20%) and 85% (or 80) game play. Since in their opinion, the 5/95% are FACTS, it's not even worth discussion. A case of someone who is wrong and refuses to discuss otherwise. *shrug* |

Down for maintenance. 1.0.1. PTR Patch notes
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/27/11 7:03:11 AM
Glad to see that they are patching and already at work on 'some' stuff. That said, some of the things like a fair few people (at least on my server..can't check forums atm) having chat related issues, not seeing chat or not being seen IN chat are much more important than a few mobs in bad locations. TBH, even before reading the post (thanks OP) when I saw that it was a .01 patch, I didn't expect a lot of the bigger problems to be addressed. I realize applying potential patches to the chat system are potentially BIG issue generators (remembering some fixes that broke more than they fixed in past MMOs) but i do hope they have some of the more noticeable problems on the workbench as well. Heck, those bloody green lasers sheeting out the landscape are going to cause eye issues for some ;P
Ah well. Time will tell. I am enjoying the game and will be playing it for the foreseeable future. Let's hope fixes that help others to so are fast forthcoming. |

Quoting someone from another site I am reading because I don't need to retype something already out there: There are two raids with multiple difficulty levels of content. There's also like 10 or so FPs that all have multiple difficulties at lvl 50 also. There's the daily space combat missions. All the planetary daily missions. There's also PvP, both world based and battlezone based to work on |

So I had 8 free days of TOR...
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/22/11 4:54:07 AM
Oddly enough, I have gone back to listening to/watching the VOs and enjoying them immensely. I skipped them probably through levels 1-17 or so but now I am watching them and having a ball. I only hit the spacebar on occasion when some of the speeches have longer than normal delays between switching to the next line of dialog (and I don't need to watch my ship blasting off every time of course). Speaking of the ship, while the space combat is very 'lightweight' I enjoy just being on the ship itself. An annoying protocol droid yammering on, my companion doing something or other and just the general ability to 'be there'.
*shrug* I knew I would like this game. I didn't know I was going to love it. Already planning my 3rd and 4th characters and looking forward to every moment. |
