WoW will fall (note that it won't fall/ topple and be utterly destroyed never to be played again) once several titles take away from it's player base and hold them successfully. Then the WoW machine will slow down, servers will consolidate and it will reduce itself down to an EQ level (over time). WoW made the industry what it is today (in terms of 'everyone' knowing what online gaming 'is'). It's still big and strong. It will dwindle over time. That's it. Old systems can't be revamped so much that 10 years from now, WoW will still ride the crest of the wave. If it could and they thought it would, Blizzard wouldn't be working on a new game . Right now the biggest and best factor in terms of gaming is that everything that has come out in the past 2 years has been junk. Many of the F2P games are better than the new P2P ones out. WoW is riding it's own hype because there's nothing else out there. Will there be other non-WoW games as big as WoW in the future? Almost guaranteed. Will WAR be one maybe/maybe not. We aren't privy to Mythic's 'Game Plan'. When I say Game Plan, I mean the plan for their company. What is a successful launch to them? 1 Million RTM purchases and hold 500K consistently for a year? 2 million sales and hold 300K? Only they know. I think Mythic has played this (figuratively) very carefully in terms of planning and development. They aren't expecting to take even 50% of WoW's market before they call WAR a success. As long as it's a success to Mythic (and the players who stay with the game) WAR will take a bite out of WoW and go happily along making money for it's parent company for a long time to come. I'm not sure which post I was responding to here. It's early and I'm still on my first cup of coffee but there you go. |

Interesting but the time zones are bad for me. 7PM PST = 10PM EST and those days are long gone for me. Oh well. Good luck to L-f-L and those within it. |

I think I'll be neutral and ransack the corpses of both sides then sell the pickings to the highest bidder. No set plans really . I'll probably play both sides for difference of play. 2 on Order and 2 on Chaos and just switch back and forth for a while. |

I hear your pain. I ended up calling the local 4 or 5 stores until I found one with a copy and the teenager working the counter was nice enough to put one aside (I promised him I was leaving within minutes and en route to the store even as I was hanging up). I'd never buy something with a deadline from them online and especially not something in limited quantities. |

I was allowed to enter the code for the pre-order/OB and my account continues to show it when I log in to the Beta Center. The other two codes for Head Start and the Bonus Items I was not allowed to enter..yet. It's only because of the CE version showing that I have hopes of seeing the CB next week of course. |

I've read that players can move freely to other aligned racial starting areas and folks as low as level 7 can get to IC or Altdorf. Has this been disclosed anywhere not censored by NDA as to how? I'm curious if there are teleports or if it's a *puff, puff, pant* leg it out. If the latter, an elf heading to dwarfland would hve to swim a bit and probably end up leveling through random fights (even with protected areas who's not going to veer off the path to see that new critter .....OVER THERE).

Exactly. My plan is to hunt around for a while, chat with folks and see how it rolls. Also to find out the specifics about leaving a guild. If it's a matter of just electing to leave and then joining another, no biggie if you make a 'mistake'. If there's a delay (if I remember correctly L2 made you wait a period of time after leaving before you could join another) mistake might be a little more vexing. That said, if a guild wouldn't be willing to chat with you, venture around and wait a day or few to get you in...they probably aren't worth it anyways. |

In a way i agree with this but I disagree that it is a reason not to buy. I would say it would be an excellent and valid reason for not joining guilds that just 'pop up' out of nowhere though. I'm not talking the long term folks who have had websites out for a while, beta guilds which carry over or groups of folks who migrate from other games en masse. The folks to be careful of are the 'any 6 characters can get togehter and make a guild...' as was shown in one of the podcasts a while back. Actually, that brings a point up. Do guild dissolve if there are less than 6 (and I suppose do they devolve when a large guild loses members?) Anyone know? |

The OP said 'they heard....' and if so they would stay away. They didn't say they heard that and were boycotting the game at this point. I tend to disagree with his/her idea that two different model types would make the game unacceptable but to the folks who are knocking him/her, read closer before you bash. |

I'd never go back. The only good thing to come of the AoC failure (in my eyes..everyone has to make up their own mind) was that I was worried about being torn between AoC and WAR. As I've long since resigned from AoC, quandary solved! |

You said basically what I was going to point out. They have 'control' of a sort in that the 'unofficial' forums certainly aren't going to say boo if Mythic gives them a directive. And since they don't have to pay people to moderate or maintain the overhead of the servers, more resources go to the game. |

I doubt they will institute IP blocks. If they did I would think Asia might be more likely to keep down the gold sellers (some at least). |

I drove to my local Gamestop and bought it at the counter. That way if someone snarfs up (other than shipper) I have people to speak harshly to on a face to face basis. |

The players were there. The promotions/advertising was there. The hype was all the way there. The only ones not there were the game developers. Poor implementation and poor customer service. As several people pointed out, games kill games. There are enough 'Big Titles' out there (and even the F2Ps that have some heart) that folks won't stay with a game that isn't good. Sure a small handful will always hang around for one reason or another (and if they enjoy, good for them!) but to be a continuing commodity, a game has to be good. People even understand that things don't always work right right out the door. That said, if things aren't fixed post haste, people have other choices. AoC and those who put it out did their own damages to FC. Whether they could have avoided these damages or not, I don't know. I tend to think that at some point (or several points) FC threw up it's collective hands and said ' That's it. We have to go with what we've got and pray to Crom that miracles happen.' (I feel the same way before exams now and again! |

If all the content of the 3 cities (per side) have been rolled up into one, that means nothing is lost. I didn't see anything about quests specifically mentioned in the 'massive' fortresses but I can't imagine they have a huge place sitting in each realm with no quests. 'Sure..throw some walls down there..they'll all flock to it and defend...we don't need to add content since they just need a place to duck from arrows...' In general I just feel a bit miffed that the Humes and Chaos monkeys get the big cities in their respective areas. I don't know about Chaos but the Emperor only ruled over Human lands. (Maybe there will be Demi-bosses in the form of racial leaders in each fort or something).
Oh well. I'm still salivating over it all. |
