that moby one has alot of pre cu and then cu picts....the last few are after nge hit...and u can see the population loss dramatically...  it ought to be a crime.

regarding communication...

in another MMO, if you choose one "type" (we'll call it horde for sake of example) you are unable to communicate with say...the other type (let's call that one alliance)...basically they coexist, but can't talk..right?

in AoC, I have a friend that created a character on the same server as me, yet her and i can't interact at all...except in chat.....she and I can't even see each other even though we're both standing in front of Laranga in front of Tortage gates....  again, she can see MY CHAT in the general tab.....how is this possible?   Zug server.....any ideas?  unless some classes/types share a different instance of tortage?  any one know?

Thankfully I have a 15/15 pipe from Verizon FIOS...so F#$JK those guys at comcast and time warner...at&t had better steer clear ...l.lol

I won't doubt you guys on the other stuff...i've only just played the game, didn't read the promises and forums at the funcom site...  havn't had to call customer service....well i did email them about a buddy pass and they replied the same day, that's about all...

It's the same complaints I read on other MMo's as well.

FAct is, MMo's are THE most complex kind of games made, with massive technology platforms and complex databases .....  they're bound to always have bugs crop up after a launch...if they beta tested for a year they'd have bugs to fix still...  (correct me if i'm wrong, but doesn't the almighty WoW still post bug fixes?  I thought the game was perfect, no?)

IF...and I say again, IF....     If an MMo launched and the company responsible for it didn't announce some major fixes and updates then I'd think they didn't care about the game and it's player base.

I hear alot of ppl say "it's like a beta"....   Well if I was one of the investors of this game, I'd be out of patience after waiting FIVE years for it to launch....time to see my money making money ya know? 

So ya...EVERY MMO will have to launch with bugs and undates remaining....EVERY MMO HAS.  ....I don't want to hear from fanbois quoting me that "mmo x" launched with no bugs" cause you're full of it. lol. 

It's like going to mars....there are just too many unforseen variables that crop up after a game goes live...you have to adjust on the fly.

AoC is no exception.....   But I'll say this FOR AoC...I wish EVERY quest giver had live audio...makes the first 20 levels better than most MMO's.....and oh ya...no grinding lvls at all for me yet and i'm lvl 39.

A few of my old swg guild mates are in AoC ....so it is a nice change from WoW or any other mmo....though sadly...  AoC is still kinda just another WoW clone....

It's too bad SWG ......it was unique.   the NGE turned it into just another clone....

and WoW's gameplay isn't what makes it good....it's the fact that it WORKS.  They fix broken stuff...if Soe had just tried a little to fix what was broke rather than waste man hours on making new addon's .....grrrrr....i'm mad all over again...  oh wait...i was still mad...lol.

I just made lvl 22 and just left the starter city of Tortage....  Zug server.

I've played several MMO's.....from sci fi to fantasy to super villian....none except PRE CU swg beat this game.

like another poster said, the first 20 levels are amazingly story driven and full of rich lore and entertaining quests.  

Item number 7.  broken chat UI.... it's not broken, but it's MODAL...and anyone who knows what that is knows that MODAL chat kills the ability to have a strong community while in game....you can't chat and run the game at the same time...i don't feel like explaining this, but ....only swg pre cu had it and SL had it until very recently...they added voice chat so they thought they could get away with modal chat then...mistake imho.

AoC had a couple glitches while I played so far...a couple server lags, a few CTD's at certain entry points like for example going into the underhalls entrance I crashed 2 times there...but no big deal, i logged back in and continued just fine....this game is far from alpha and if you MUST call it a beta, then you have to admit it's a pretty smoothly polished one ...

Of Course they plan to fine tune it....every MMO evolves over time...we all know this, why claim a game is doomed 2 weeks after launch?  really that's just short sited thinking.

I'm going to buy another copy of the game for a couple friends of mine...get them into my guild and we're going to go kick the crap out of any baddies we come in contact with...

Faxx....on Zug.  A nice server.    oh ya one last thing.... MMO's aren't made or broken on how well they PvP...go play xbox for that....  it's community that makes MMO.....an MMO. 

if this list is supposed to be THE most recent who's who of MMo's...then us SWG vets have to redouble our efforts....SMED should be nowhere on this list...but only get mentioned when telling stock holders how NOT to treat it's customers....

the only other possible conclusion i can come to is that this article is a fluff piece meant to foster love for it's sponsors by the companies they're fluffing....(leaning more on this theory at this point)

A thread like this will end up locked because you'll never get anyone to agree to this "get over it" line....

I will tell you why I will never "get over it"   .... simple business practices teach us that a negative comment goes farther than a positive one when dealing with customer service....

What happened to SWG was a total lack of business integrity.   And if SOE gets away with it, other MMo's will think they can.... so "the line must be drawn here, this far and no farther!"

I have made it my personal effort to make sure anyone even asking about swg knows what happened, and that SOE should never get any money from them.....and ya...i KNOW i've affected at least 20 ppl in the last 3 years....i promise you that we're winning the war...and SOE will NEVER do this again....and neither will any other MMO company. 

I am over the game.... but as a business owner, I'm FAR from over it.  Such business practices deserve to be made an example of....and I'll kick the horse long after it's dead too.

I have a couple ideas...just to throw out there... I don't know if it's useful or not, but maybe it is....

background... When I first played SWG, I had not yet been trained in languages, and thus it was VERY interesting to find myself asking for someone to translate something for me.... My first day, I served as a translator for 2 other races conducting business.....  now THAT WAS FUN!  ....of course there was the time of newness that wore off, but a simple "click -- now you know X language" was certainly underwhelming as well....how about learning languages actually takes time.... so that you really do have to work the system to communicate (unless they're in the same race)

This is not just an SWG idea....

What is to keep a race from being unable to speak at all?  just gesture?  yes it's alot of programming, but the novelty of some kind of race that has to communicate that way in game seems to me to be worthy of exploration...  again, ANY mmo could use this idea....

or some languages simply can't be learned by some races....  an insectoid can't learn humanoid no matter HOW much training u give them...you have to have some translator system in place in the form of other players or some help tool.

an MMO by nature asks to have these challenges as part of it's  makeup IMHO< ...why now accentuate that into a lore of some game?

I've played a few MMo's now and can say that the games in and of themselves aren't that great really.  ...  let me clarify...

It wasn't the graphics of a game that made me like it or buy it.

It wasn't the PVP coolness that made me love it.

It wasn't the sheer IP that made me love them.....

It was the community.  I just learned that from over 2 years ago, my SWG guild that went to wow is forming up on AoC.  Guess what.....I'm sold.   Not because of game glitches or exploits....but because ppl I know and care about are there and we're all ready to get to it...as a group of close friends.

Solo= console game.  not an MMO...

What makes an MMO good is the MMO part...Massive MULTI-PLAYER ONLINE.  Community is why MMo's are what they are.

Modal chat in AoC is a BAD BAD choice in my opinion.  Makes it impossible to combat and chat at the same time (be realistic, you know what I mean...unless all you've ever played is wow, then no u don't)

SWG had non modal chat before the combat upgrade...and it had the closest community I've seen...coincidence?  I think not.

Wow is modal chat and you can't get half the ppl to even reply to you if they're busy.  community is a ZERO there.

Sorry to hear you got the shaft on slots my friend.   Don't give up, maybe there is a decnet AGP card you can find that can run the game decently.   I'm pretty sure of it, though PCI-e is certainly a more preferred choice I'm afraid.

When you have a corp as big as SOE, there comes a time that it's actually MORE profitable to pull the plug and take the tax writeoff....

Anyone remember the beloved "hot n now" drive thrus that were next to taco bell?  Pepsi said simply that they were making money on them, just not enough so that taking the tax writeoff was a more profitable way to go. (Pepsi still has my disdain for that....that food was GOOD MAN!)

I was hoping the collective outcry would somehow stop the NGE....

If I recall, there was a delay in the CU because of the original outcry...but they eventually pushed it on us anyway....The mass of yelling and complaining about the NGE was sooo massive, that I thought 'surely this is going to get poo poo'd'......I was shocked and amazed really....  I am glad I paid only month to month....they got not one penny from me on NGE time.  and I got 3 TooW refunds back too.
