Alganon - seems to be moving in the right direction
General Discussion « Alganon 12/31/10 3:22:01 PM
We don't need the "Detailed Metrics" for player numbers. Auction house items, forum posts, and fans in other forums can give us a general idea of how many people are playing. So can running around an empty world. DS is pulling numbers out if his ass...who knows why. I was a fan of Alganon and played for a few months....but it went nowhere. It's not getting any better and the active player base is not 100K. Why DS feels the need to lie about active subs is beyond my comprehension. |

Games should have forced grouping becuase if players don't want to do it on their own....LET'S MAKE THEM....HAHAHAHAHA! |

Would you play a female character as a guy?
General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 12/31/10 2:51:27 AM
Originally posted by monstermmo Hehe...well, playing a male character in EQ doesn't equate to gay porn where I live...but okay. If that's where your coming from in creating a character in an MMO....go for it. I don't fault anyone for playing what they want and how they want. They're spending the cash so whatever. I just think some people always feel the need to justify things in the most bizarre ways. Of course it matters what I want to look at in my character. I spend a lot of time in the character creation part of the game. It's just that the characters ass has little to do with it. That's me though. Apparently...not everyone feels the way I do.....SHOCKER!!!! |

Would you play a female character as a guy?
General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 12/31/10 2:19:06 AM
I'm a guy...and I play female characters once in awhile. It has nothing to do with looking at a sexy animated butt. It's just to do something different. When I play females, I usually pick the ugliest race there is...trolls, ogres, orcs, etc...cuz there are very few of those type of characters. Seriously....I don't get the whole "I want to look at a sexy butt" thing....it's a freeking computer generated, clothing covered, pixelated rear end. I just don't see much "hotness" in that.
But hey....we're all different and that's what makes this world great. |

Yeh....I gotta go with "NONE". When everyone releases trash or single player games called an MMORPGs (Vindictus) nobody wins. |

Yeh...I'm buying. It seems to be a solid game, not expecting anything earth shattering, been in all three betas, and I buy pretty much every new MMORPG. I'll play for at least 2 months and then we'll see. I'm waiting for TERA. |

How SOE feels they can charge a full monthly fee for a game with zero development and a tiny staff that adds nothing to the game is beyond me. I'd probably even go back if it was like $7 a month or so...but $15....no freekin' way. |

Originally posted by Antillio Which is why I solo my way through most MMORPGs. No mini map, no fast travel, no quest helpers...stuff like that. I play the game for the game. I don't play to level and I don't play to raid. It's just that it would be nice if a game was designed without these features. That would bring like-minded people together in the gameworld and players like me might group once in awhile. I know that will never happen...but hey....I can dream. |

Which games have auto-approach? Rift Does NOT which is a problem

Coperniucus is the MMO...both games take place in the same world. |

Roleplaying requires more than just being a part of the world and doing stuff in it. People that think adding stats and abilities to their character make it a roleplaying game are clueless.
Tabletop D&D does not automatically equal roleplaying. Players could just sit around a table tossing dice and win loot (which is what MMORPGs are) or players could sit around, become someone else, think like that other person, and react like that character would react in the make believe world. Becoming your character, becoming a part of the world, living that alter personna, requires more than loggin into a game world. The problem with MMORPGs is that people just click and play and don't really understand how to roleplay...and a big reason for this is that the gameworld doesn't care. There are no negative consequences to completing quests that your character "shouldn't" do, but you miss out on the XP and loot if you don't do it. Quests can really be completed in only one way, but really, a rogue should complete it in a different way that a priest or wizard.
These games have become all about leveling and min/maxing....and roleplaying is NOT about that. |

Well....I'm not going to flame you, but your issue is only an issue the first time you visit a thread. After that, going to the end is the desired result so you can see what was added.
If we were automatically sent to post #1 every time we revisited a thread, we would have to manually go to the last page every time....as opposed to having to manually click "first" to read the OP just once.
Does that make sense? |

Is there a *quality* MMO worth playing now? (something new?)
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 12/25/10 12:06:52 PM
Try some of the Western F2P games.
EQ2X, LoTRO, DDO, Istaria....more depth as far as the story goes and not quite so heavy on the Asian graphics. |

@STE2000
But we could use the same "I think grouping should be forced" and turn it to say "I think grouping should be eliminated" since it's basically a waste of time. Why would you want someone in your group who doesn't want to be there, but is only a part of your group because the game mechanics force him to be there? Kind of like your parents forcing you sister to play with you because you can't find any friends on your own. Forced grouping makes as much sense as forced roleplaying. I'm a solo RPer by the way. Either way, by "forcing" the player base in one direction, the game eliminates the other "half" of the player base. Personally, I'd like a PvE / RP only world, enforced. But hey...I'm not going to get it so I'll make do. |

Originally posted by pierth .........because so far it just seems like you enjoy playing crippled versions of console games.
How do you figure it's a crippled version of a console game? I've heard / read that "argument" before and it makes no sense. The lore, story line, and quest writing in some MMORPGs can rival that of most single player RPGs. MMORPG worlds are usually larger, have more characters moving around (adds to the atmosphere), more diverse areas to explore, and many other things that appeal to solo gamers. My character in an MMORPG has just as much affect on the world in, say, EQ2 as it does in the world of Oblivion or Dragon Age. It's all make believe after all....and as a solo player, I make believe that who I've killed remains killed, the villlagers I've saved remain that way, and the quests I complete are completed. Thats kinda the same as finishing a single player game and replaying it again. In that case, we pretend we've never done it all before.
Suspension of belief, make believe, fantasy....it's all part of the RPG in MMORPG...which many of the current player base doesn't get. My question to you is....how the hell can anyone play an MMORPG without roleplaying? It's in the freekin' name after all. |
