World of Warcraft: Three Reasons WoW Didn’t Ruin MMOs
News Discussion « General Discussion 9/07/11 2:41:48 PM
Umm...yeh....#1 - Making MORPGs more mainstream was not a good thing. That's what destroyed the genre. |

What is THE best MMO for roleplaying, past and present?

As much as I dislike the game...I gotta go with LotRO - Landroval sever. |

This makes about as much sense as boycotting Norway since the event happened there. While it was a terrible act, blaming or pointing fingers at anyone but the killer is pointless and futile. It was committed by one man...blame him.

These people are as bad as Everquest players just not as many.

Even with single player games, I don't know what to play anymore
PC Gaming « General Discussion 7/18/11 5:15:21 PM
I'm playing Oblivion and Fallout 3 again. Have you played The Witcher games? Amnesia - The Dark Descent is a pretty sweet game. Divintiy 2 isn't too bad.
Really...there are plenty of good games out there, some great ones, and a few great ones coming out this year. |

DF will never go FTP. Eurogamer seem to think otherwise.
General Discussion « Darkfall 7/13/11 11:36:02 PM
Yeh....ummmm...don't say "never".
Pretty much every other game is going F2P.....F2P Darkfall probably isn' t far away...especially if DF2 doesn't bring more players. |

It's considered EZ Mode because any 12 year old can have a max level character within a couple of weeks of playing. There is no thought needed. There is no grouping needed. There is no strategy needed. There is no BRAIN needed. Quest markers, maps to get you where you need to be, exclmation points, question marks...just rush into a quest area and start killing stuff without thinking. If you die, don't worry...there's no penalty...just run your ghost back to where you died and continue smacking stuff until you get all the "wolf teeth" that you need. You (OP) might think that losing a level or losing an item after death was frustrating. Many of us feel it's just part of the game and it's actually an incentive of sorts to use one's brain and think...strategize...before doing something or traveling somewhere. That's why I feel that WoW is an "EZ Mode" game.

Eden Eternal: Threatening to Destroy All That Once Was
News Discussion « General Discussion 7/05/11 7:49:10 PM
Well.....most of the posters in this thread have been here much much longer than Ramblebrain....so I don't see his point either. Here's the forum link to this thread...http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/320194 Downloading the game right now. |

Umm...wait....did I just....nevermind |

Yeh....I'm in the same boat as the OP. It's not a "limtied taste" in MMORPGs that I have, it's a more "refined" taste of what they should be. Good and bad are all opinions...and my opinion is that there are no MMORPGs that are worth my time and money. I'm playing Oblivion and other single player games right now. |

Why do most rpg's use the same characters?
General Gaming « General Discussion 6/05/11 11:52:04 AM
Try any of the Elder Scrolls games. Play any premade class you want, mix them up, create your own...or don't play a class at all. It's up to you. |
|
|
How about some type of spy/scout where the player could reach max level, completing quests without killing anything. If the character kills something or someone during a quest they get half of the reward instead of all. It seems that every class in every game needs to kill in order to be successful. Lets find an alternative to that.
On the other hand...how about an assassin that is a true assassin...not a dual wielding dps machine. 1 skill....assassinate...useable once every 10 hours. Instantly kills anything up to 5 levels higher. |

Which game devs do you think really listen to their audience?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 5/31/11 6:08:25 PM
I wish none of them did.
WoW is the most populated game and it's players are comfortable with it. When new games are developed, they usually don't start with all the WoW EZmode garbage, but evolve into that because devs cave in to the whining future player base who are getting tired of WoW.
Please devs...design the game YOU want to design. Believe me when I say that people will play it. Stop trying to be the next WoW and stop trying to compete with WoW. WoW is not your competition....every OTHER game is.
So please stop doing what the players say they want you to do because all they want is a new version of WoW. |

Why I do not play sandbox games and why I am tired of themepark games
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 5/29/11 12:53:50 AM
Yeh...and why can't we have a good fantasy sandbox MMORPG.
They all seem to be sci-fi or apocoliptic crap with full loot PvP...everything i hate. |
|
|
As much as I hate it, if ESPN can call fishing, golf, bowling, and poker sports....then Diablo, Halo, and Guild Wars can call themselves MMOs. So if you're really not an MMO, but call yourself one, MMORPG.com will cover you anyway...just like ESPN. It not so much as what you really are as it is what you want to be...or want people to think you are. |

I can play Vanguard on a laptop just fine. It's a basic Dell Studio XPS...nothing fancy. OP...try Istaria (formerly Horizons). Small population but the players are very friendly, helpful, and mature. Or just try the Vanguard tutorial. It's free and you can see for yourself if your rig can handle it.
