Alright....one more post.

I also posted this in the AoC forums, where this trash was brough up in a post.

Massey's "article"....if one can even call it that....is nothing more than a rant intended to piss off a bunch of people....for who knows what reason.

It's quite apparent that he somehow got his feelings hurt while on a RP preferred server, so he used his position as a writer to "stir" it up.

All he accomplished by writing that trash is lose credibility as a "writer', and piss people off. A somewhat "official" rant like that also widens the gap between RPers and those that grief the RPers by feeding the griefers dislike with fictional crap presented as fact.

It's kinda like somewhat writing a racist piece and generalizing, in a negative way, members of that race. Those that agree with the writers bogus opinion take all that information as fact and it feeds and replenishes their racist views, while those that were needlessly and inappropriately attacked can only sit by and say "wtf?"

Yeh....not only are they trying to pass this trash of as an Opinion Article...which I guess means writing shit no matter who it may offend or piss off... (man, I could really write one HELL of an opinion piece right now), but it's the #1 or Lead Story on the main page.

The quality writing has really bottomed out here.  Some of  the newer contributors are absolutely pathetic and this piece went way over the top.

For MMORPG to stand  by this article and actually promote it.

Well, I've been a member here for several years....but no more.

No clicks to your site from me anymore.

I may only be one.....but I have standards.  Apparently, this site doesn't.

Wow.  I am officially never reading another article by you again.  You've done a great job, not only of generalizing, but of doing it in a massively negative manner.  This does, as a previous poster said, come off as a rant.  Also, just because you've apparently rarely seen the brighter side of a role-playing community doesn't mean it doesn't exist.  How sad.

Yeh....nothing like a writer calling a bunch if his readers "whiners" simplhy because they like to roleplay.

Sounds to me like he's a PvPer.  And if he's read any game forums recently, he would see that they make up the least number of players in most games (based on numbers of servers), but have the whiniest posts.

Actually....the entire article I just read came off as nothing but a big whine.  I've noticed that quite often lately.  Writers on this site calling their readers names and whining about game issues.

Last time I called a writer out on that, my posts were deleted.   We'll see what hapens here..

Games need to understand that people like to stuff other than raid.  There should be more to being heroic than raiding.

Reward players for discovering "X" number of places with cool looking stuff.

Give special gear for completing 100, 500, 1000, etc quests.

Give eye candy stuff for "x" number of hours in game.  This rewards people who play a bunch but RP or do other things besides getting toomax level.

Give rewards to crafters that create a ton of stuff.  Sure they get cash from selling stuff, but give them cool robes or cloaks....stuff like that.

It's not all about raiding and "the end game".  What happened to all the stuff in between that took the devs 5 years to make in the first place.

There's all kind of cool stuff they could do....if they wanted to.

It's about measurables.  In single person RPGs, you've got a static story line to follow - even if there are different paths through it.  The measurable is the point in that storyline.  In MMOs, you have a wide variety of choices and the measurable is your level and class.

For example:  In RPGs, arriving at a certain city measures how far you've gotten in a game.  In MMOs, you have several dozen cities to visit and that feat does not measure your advancement.

Well....I disagree with this statement.  In Oblivion, Morrowind, Fallout 3 (all Bethesda games, I know) I can be in any city whenever I want.  Where I am on the map isn't an accomplishment at all.  What I've done on the way.....that's the accomplishment.

Call me silly, but I play all MMORPG just like I play single RPGs.  I've played too many to count, starting with EQ and AC....and I have never....never.....gotten a character to max level.  For me, it's about the story.  And to understand all the stories, both little and large, main and minor, one needs to quest.  So....I quest and explore....and level very very slowly....then I move on to the next game....over and over again.

For me....it's not about "getting there"....wherever that might be.  It's about "what I'm doing on the way."

I wish games would just dump the character levels and instead of level bars, have skill bars, where the more I used my dagger, the more that skill improved, allowing me to add points to attributes that are used in the dagger skill....such as dagger, speed, agility...etc.  Many games do this, but they also use the "character level" stat along side of it.  I just don't get the purpose of character level.

End game?  Never needed one cuz I've never been there.

No no no....and NO.  The most overused and misused word in MMOs is "potential".....as in "This game has potential".

Hell.....every game.....no, everyTHING in the world has potential.  If I keep typing, this post has the potential to be the worlds greatest novel.

Please.  By the time a game is released....it's either good, or it's not.  People that say a released game is "rough around the edges right now", but "has potential", are wrong.  I remember reading "potential" in the forums of Dark and Light, Horizons, Irth On-Line.....hehe.....yup.

Potential is a word for beta....not after release.

Yeh....if you applied, basically you're in.  But....it says you'll be in the beta sometime between now and release....so...yeh.

Here's the quote from the FAQs

Please note, however, that signing up for a Beta Account and actually having a Beta Account are two different things. As we begin our Beta Test, we're going to start adding players to the game, just a few at a time. As things are improved and the process gets ironed out, we'll add more and more players, gradually allowing in everybody who's signed up. You may get your invitation right away, or you may have to wait a little while, but you will get to play in the Gatheryn Beta Test -- we promise!

Heh....you should check out the Acclaim boards.

Half the population (about 34 people I think) are complaining about Acclaims pathetic release...or lack of one.

The other half are complaining about the complainers....which is actually quite pathetic if one actually thinks about it.

It's quite commical to read all of the flames there.  No differing of opinions allowed.

Yeh....I say play another server....and play the opposite faction you used to play....at least for a bit

A completely different character.

And don't say anything about this in-game....or not until you have made some new friends.  Rabid teen boys will be all over you if you give them this.

Just jump in and play...might be tough for a few weeks but you'll meet new people and you'll be having a blast in no time.

Heh....ya know what's REALLY freaky???

Take my start date   dd/mm/yy     subtract 2 from each number    and you'll get your start date...

Yikes!!!!

The mind connection was bound to happen eventually

WoW is not the best MMO ever....and never has been.  It's easy to learn and runs on almost any machine...making it playable for anyone of any age.

The number of people playing doesn't really make it the best.

Just like...

McDonalds does not mke the best burger in the world...it just sells more than anyone else cuz they appeal to all ages, are cheap, quick in and out, and you can find McDonalds everywhere.

They are both very popular and number 1 in their fields as far as players/customers...but neither is the BEST...by far.

Players have little reason to explore, or little benefit from exploration
>Add rare items for gathering professions that grow/spawn in out-of-reach areas
.Mob AI too predictable
1. Little to no mob intimidation on a global scale (inteligent humanoids or dragons need to raid player and npc cities)
2. Little to no reason to return to an area after leveling past it other than to gather materials or power level a friend
3. Zones with no flavor and/or not at all breathtaking

Exploration in thses games is something that I think really needs to be....ummmm.......explored?

There needs to be a reason for the adventurer to explore too...not just rare crafting items.  Maybe rare armor/weapons/clothing found in random camps with chests, a unique player title for exploring numerous areas......I don't know.

In WAR I took my zealot to every spot in every map....even to Order areas...and I got nothing.  I climbed a mountain, found an abandoned camp....and got nothing.  After a few levels of doing this it was like screw it....what's the point?

I love to explore, but if there is a risk of death...as there should be....there should be some reward also.

Blah, blah, blah.....

I think that when DnL relaunches, we will see big improvements on functionality and with a lot more world building completed. The Chinese are known to work hard. And this time they have had a lot of time to figure out what to do next with the game. ..

blah, blah, blah.....

Lol....relaunch....lol.

Yeh....I'll go with the SteamPunk ideas...

Also...modern day horror / sci-fi....maybe like X-Files like stuff.

And a futuristic apocolyptic game like Fallout.

But man....the Tad Williams "Otherland" mmorpg could have it all...I hope that game succeeds.

Not a trial...so to speak....but a Free to Play area.

So...you get to download a portion of the game for free and get to play a part of it for free....before you make the actual purchase.

This is similar to the Starter Island in EQ2 and the Trial Island in Vanguard.

From the Official Site...

Acclaim games announces North American release date
SATURDAY, 27TH OF SEPTEMBER 2008 :: POSTED BY *MIRAGE* :: 124 COMMENTS

Acclaim Games announced the official launch date for the North American version of The Chronicles of Spellborn which is scheduled for release on November 27, 2008.

The release is not far off anymore.

Next month....the 27th I believe.

Can't wait.

Tad Williams has an amazing imagination and has the gift to put this imagination into words.

My favorite author, by far, and I've been waiting for this MMORPG to come about for years.

I'm such a fan that all of my current gaming characters have alternate spellings of his book characters.

Tad...you are amazing. Thanks for sharing your talent with me and allowing me to leave real life for a time while I visit your worlds.

I remember commenting on an MMORPG article and the link not working, the response I got was that there is a delay between posting a link and it becoming active...

So I guess give it 10 minutes before jumping all over them about it every time.

Look at the time stamps....it was like 90 minutes so yeh....whatever....

I want this game!!!!!

Really guys...I  mean come on....how hard is it to link to something?

tcos.com/            Like this maybe?????   Sheesh
