I'm 33, and I agree with him.
Granted I'm single and no kids, and have very few bills... so I have have extra cash to throw around on a games each month.
I have bought many a MMO to test out, mostly because there were no trail version of them at time; AoC, PotBS, WAR, and Vanguard.
Why? Because I'm looking for the game to replace WoW... still haven't found one.
I know won't like DFO, so I not going drop the $50 on it... but going take risk on Jumpgate.

If you're willing to risk it, and you have the money, go for it. if not, don't.

WoW is the epitomey of theme park bull$hit.  Who the hell cares about AO, EQ and the rest, they are all the same theme park BS and this industry is SATURATED with it.

Thank goodness for DarkFall coming out.  2009 will be the year of something DIFFERENT and CHANGE.  Finally a true world simulator sandbox game to take back the crown of the long forgotten and corrupted Ultima Online since trammel was implemented back in 1999 and ruined everything.

The only reason why WoW seems to have "brought so many into the MMO market" is because they happened to be at the right place at the right time.  Many people started to have DSL/Cable when WoW was around and that was not the case with EQ.  Back in EQ1(the MMO that came after UO and turned the industry in the wrong direction for the past 10 years) most people started off with 56k.

Make no mistake about it, WoW WILL die.  ALl theme park games have about a 4 year life span.  EQ's prime lasted from about 2000-2004 and WoW's prime will be from 2004-2008.  WoW will begin to die off this year and revolutionary new games(or just games following the steps of UO pre-trammel) such as DarkFall and Mortal Online will help nail the coffin shut.  MMOers are dumb but they're not THAT dumb, it's like the people who voted for Bush the first time and then the second time, some of the smart ones will see the scam for what it is in the beginning, but give the rest of the idiots some time, they will eventually figure out that they are on an endless treadmill to no where and every "level" you go up is the same bullshit except they throw more sparkly/pretty things at you.

I hated UO for the same reasons you liked it. I know I won't like Darkfall, just based off what is little I know about it. Darkfall will fall into a niche for certain hardcore gamers, if it doesn't fail. I actually hope the game does well, the MMORPG genre needs it too.

I'll pretty given up on finding a replacement for WoW, tho I really just want to leave the game. I only play for the lack of anything better to do, really. The only upcoming MMO I'm really looking at is Jumpgate Evolution, to get away from the Fantasy theme MMOs, darkfall falls into too this theme as well.

The only that kills an MMO is the basicly the MMO itself.

Boils down to Either poor Design choices at launch or in a follow patch or xpac.

WoW won't be killed just like EQ, wasn't by WoW. It will simply  be replaced in time, by a new game.

People will still play it tho.

I doubt we will ever see a game that reach the same success WoW has tho.

Whatever happend to the days when people didn't care when they got to max level and just went out on an adventure, grouping with people for EXP and actually did some roleplaying? Now its just a race to max lvl and who has the best gear.

I personally love FFXI, there is no game out there on the market. The combat system is so much better than any MMO to date IMHO. They have Dual Classes, advanced jobs that can be unlocked.  While it is zoned the areas are still big enough to give you that big open world feel. Grouping is encouraged in this game, I pretty much party for anything, exp, quests, farming im always in a group.

WoW you can solo pretty much every quest, the only grouping you ever do is for raids and dungion runs. I personaly play MMO's to group up and meet new people.  While I do like to chat, most of the area chat is stupid in games now days anyways so I just chat with guildies or group members.

I was never one to caring about role playing.

What I was looking for in a MMO where I could quest both solo and in a group. WoW does this easily.

I played FFXI for about 3 months. I like how the game played, but I didn't like the lack of questing.

The fact I had to group up and grind out levels just killing mobs with no real purpose, but to gain XP to level so I could do those quests.

Grouping in FFXI was to much of a pain, and soloing wasn't a option, thus I quit.

FFXI was the only MMO other then WoW that played more than a 1 month.

Now I do have to say the leveling in WoW is too fast.

They have made the quest too easy, like with the quest items sparkling thing... and putting the the gold ? and ! on the minimap.

What was so wrong with having to look around for the quest grivers and who you had to turn the quest into?

I don't know if this is such a good idea.

This is going turn the hardcore folks off to the game...

MMOs need to carter to both casual and hardcore players to do well.

Some are just trolls...

Others really wanted the game to be good, and to them it wasn't....

I don't think the game sucks... it just needs work.

I got tired of the Scenario Grind in Tier 3, Tor Anroc Got boring real fast.

I try the game again in aboout 2 months or so after I blow thru the WOTLK stuff.

I don't mind the quest grind but alot of mmos make it dull and boring to do. I guess that is why I played games such as FFXI and Guild Wars for the longest time. There is no such thing as quest grind for levels.

----------------------

ugh... I stopped playing FFXI because I couldn't quest without grinding to the right level. Drove me nuts.

Questing should feel fun and rewarding, not "sight, I have to kill another 20 bears again". Fewer really long quest with more XP instead of loads of meaningless ones are the way to go. I hate being the henchman of the hero or bad guy, who tells me to do all kinds of boring junk, if I wanted that I would get a job at McDonalds.

---------------------

I like this idea.

Anyway I really didn't mine leveling from 1-60, then 60 to 70 in WoW, questing. It's was the Alts I leveled that felt like the grind.

It really all depends on the server you play on too.

on Skull Throne Destro side has a even spread of Chosen and Black Orcs, lots of  Witch Elves, few Sorceress, and even fewer Magus, and like no healers.

Order side is heavy on the healers, mostly Warrior and Rune Priests, and a massive amount Bright Wizards. I see more Iron Breakers then any of the other tanks on Order... but doesn't seem to be any more then the number Black Orcs.

What Pinkcat said.

when wotlk is released you can only make a Death Knight on any server you have a level 55 toon.

Later, they are planning to make it so you can make one on any server if you have level 55 toon on any one server.

He he, that was funny.

But he completely missed the point with EvE.

Apparently so did I, then.

The game I found completely boring.

To get to any of the fun stuff requires lots of training.... Which is time based, something I completely thought was stupid.

I do think it a good game, for those who are willing to put the time into it....

just not for me tho.

To much travel time... time based skill leveling... no instant gratification early on in the game.
