It's not a big secret im a fan of war and i think this game have a lot of potentiel.

This I agree with you, you must be a fan.

Im sad to see all this people who left war and i dont understand why they did so.

Let me guess, your main toon is Order and ORvR is empty now, you're tired of flipping zones and you cannot  get any gear progression since all the high level Destro left and you're stuck looting officers token which are of no use to you.

It's a great game with great background, nice looking graphic. Your character look cool from beginning till the end

Yes great graphics, also get used to that weapon look as every weapon to your class will have 3 different look, that's it, no matter the name, the stat, you get 3 different graphics.

Since this game have a lot of thing to intertain, its make me forgot about leveling so its get funnier.

Tell me you're getting paid, please.

I mean you can : Do quest, open rvr, close pvp, public quest.

Let me see:

-You will level up to 40 in less than 3 weeks, which is not bad.

-You will not care for any public quests once you hit 40 as all the rewards are not good for lvl 38+

-Quests? Yes if you love the lore, do them. Otherwise no rewards that come from quests are any good for you character after lvl38.

-Close PvP? Scenarios, yes they are good, in fact one of the most enjoyable part of the game.

-ORvR, yeah it's fun zerging, well for a while. Then you pay 15$, zerg some more, pay 15$, zerg some more and then cancel the game.

Quest are cool if you take time to read the story and stuff about the background

yes

pvp is fun and i never get bored of it. I think this game is almost well balance since i win and lost almost at the same rate.

PvP could be fun, sadly it has one of the worst balance between classes in T4

I dont do a lot of open rvr cause you have to be patient but theres always a lot of people out there raging on keep and with the new rally call, its just get more fun.

You can say anything about again public quest but they remade it in a way you can get to the end without many people. So you can rally up with 3 to 4 friend and get it to the end.

There was no PQ revamp, are you sure you playing WAR?

About role playing, if you dont see any, just create it ! Last night, it was late and i was too tired to do pvp or quest but not enought tired for sleep so i park my orc choppa in a warcamp and begin speaking in the channel. One hour later, we were a bunch of greenskin around the campfire raging on a silly but cool burp contest. It's meaningless but funny and so, my point is: If you want a game with more soul, put your effort in it.

Ok.

Come back on war ! They make a lot of event barely every month and the game just getting better and better and can grow on something really big if more people could come !

Bad english yes, bad math for sure.

Rally up for war ! Waaagh !

(And sorry for my bad english, im french!)

LMAO +800k players left the game, Mythic didn't get the hint. Why do you think this little podcast is gonna do anything?

Mythic killed the game, nobody else to blame, no other MMO to blame.

This patch just show how Mythic isn't in touch with the reality. This game has been out for a little over a year now and while the servers are bleeding out subscribers, Mythic release bug fix, they say...

-Mailbox artwork been redone

-The game will now skip logo intro when it has successfully launched once.

Meanwhile there is a postern door in South Keep in Praag that is still broken, been broken for months now. And the z-axis of AoE dmg of Magus is still broken, now does anyone else see the problem?

This is a small example, I could relate tons, but this example is easy to understand.

-Mrbloodworth

The visuals are beautifull there is no arguing about that.

The game is great, features, theme, my main complain was that once you get into Moria it's like playing a whole new game which I didn't appreciate for all the reasons I mentionned.

DX10 integration is poorly done, plain and simple.

A modern graphics processing unit (GPU) can have 512 MB or more of video memory. Applications that try to take advantage of such large amounts of video memory can use a large proportion of their virtual address space for an in-memory copy of their video resources. On 32-bit systems, such applications may consume all the available virtual address space.

With the introduction of DirectX 10 and Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) in Windows Vista, it is no longer necessary for an application to maintain a copy of its resources in system memory. Instead, the video memory manager makes sure that the content of every video memory allocation is maintained across display transitions. For compatibility reasons, Windows Vista emulates "device lost" for DirectX versions that are earlier than DirectX 10 to make sure that no application-visible API behavior changes.

support.microsoft.com/kb/940105 had they integrated DX10 better we wouldn't have to have 3+ GB and a 64bit OS tu run at max video settings with DX10 on. That is the side effect I've been talking about.Even Turbine made a patch that had a warning message pop on your screen about this.

-Ryukan

There are some pretty big differences between the DX10 versions of Hellgate: London and the DX9 version. In general, the DX10 code produces a more realistic image, at the expense of some pretty considerable chunks of raw performance. The important thing here is that these changes are persistent and highly visible from the second you enable the DX10-specific options, you will see the difference, the gameplay experience is improved.

Just read this www.hardocp.com/article.html notice soft shading, smoke system and high quality texture. It's not about artwork design but about how it was programmed and integrated.

Is it so hard to conceive that while a game can be great and enjoyable for some, it can possess technology shortcomes and gameplay changes?

Yeah, their implementation of (lack of) DX10 is poor

You are from crazy town.

Actually, I had a slight complain with DX10 as well... in the open, yes, everything has shadows... but: always from exactly the same direction.

If there was a dynamic shadow, following the sun in the game, it would have been a much bigger hit....

DB

Well the DX10 issue here is seen from 2-3 different point of view.

While cfurlin and Mrbloodworth don't like the results which is a matter of taste, I just don't like the implementation in the client and the side effects that comes with such a poor utilisation of DX10 in a DX9 client.

The visuals are very good imho but it has shortcomes compared to your average FPS, not the same games though. Soft shadows would have been much better utiliation imho, just like Hellgate London. Water occlusion is probably their best upgrade and utilisation, but none of that matter in Moria, because there no large water surface that benefit.

And the lighting vs shadow, outdoor is nice, but indoor just look weird, seeing your shadow shift from left to right just by walking 2-3 steps :) in some places.

Its a MMO. That has to account for potentially hundreds of dynamic players in one spot, with the environment as well. Comparing it to bleeding edge FPS is a bit of a apple and oranges issue.

Compound this with, for the system specs required, LOTRO rendering engine is one of the more refined, and performing to date.

Shall we compare it to EQII implementation of stencil shadows, or maybe SWG? Its always a game of give and take.

Quoting my own words:"...shortcomes compared to your average FPS, not the same games though." it is apple and oranges. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure I implied this.

As for comparing to other MMO's, Hellgate London was a mmo, and it sported soft shows as well as correct shadow projection, Age of Conan does too, TabulaRasa had day/light dynamic shadow, Auto Assault, there are many other titles. And no I'm not going to compare LOTRO with EQ2 or SWG which are way older than LOTRO, that would be comparing apple and oranges.

Look, Turbine wanted to give players more by adding features that weren't in game at launch which is very very good, all I'm saying is, the client implementation was poorly done and the side effects are there. As for the actual result, only water occlusion and long range mapping actually warrant all the problems, and those two features are mostly absent in Moria since it's indoor and provide little large water surface or water surface that would benefit from dense light.

I'm still playing EVE Online part time. Played 10 months exclusiveley nowaday I just login for skills. I got my account within the 90 of release and that game was buggy as hell back then. Nowadays it's a charm but CCP had a rough start.

Sound advice, yes I'm already doing this, I have one computer for media, one for internet and emails, and one for gaming only. Each person in my house has a computer too, yeah we're the cpu family LOL.

Like I said the shimmering bug at the start, yes this was incompatibility between driver set and the game, once nvidia updated the drivers I was ok, couldn't revert to an earlier version as those were the initial drivers for my GTX295, price to pay for living on the bleeding edge.

But the 64bit issue... That has everything to do with the fact that their client is DX9 with DX10 feature sets, so they drag DX9 legacy so that everything that reside on your videocard memory has to be shadow copied to your virtual memory space.

Let's say you have a videocard with 1024mb of memory and after a while playing you fill it up, that's 1GB of virtual memory add the previous set that did not flush, add your client(lotro.exe) usage and finally add your OS and features, well you get the picture. At 32bit address space per application you hit the wall.

Now had they release a DX10 client none of that video memory would be mapped into your virtual memory address space and you'd have plenty of space to play the game under 32bit vista.

But you cannot seriously ask Turbine to rewrite the client to DX10, that would be unfair and the added feature set is just that, added fluff so it doesn't deserve "full" support.

Thanks for the reply, yes we do play a good amount per week. Yes it's true we're very demanding and few mmo's so far we able to last us longer than 10 months. But that's not bad, we play 4-10 months then move to next game, enjoy the content and move on as we're bored.

Sometimes when an expansion warrant it we come back and play some more. One thing I've never got over after all those years (we been playing mmo's since 1998) is the fact that very very few companies add content once teir player base shrink.

If I was a mmo maker/publisher I'd just prep the game for release, and have the expansion ready in the vault. So as soon as my initial player base shrink you pop the news on your website about new content, and voila you can drag people into sticking into your game a few more months.

Anyone that pay 40-60$ for a game and then 15$/month will expect more han the initial content within the first year. At over 200$ for 12 months of gaming, it's normal people expect more than your 50$ rpg or 35-50$ fps with online content.

And they removed my post from the forums the same day.

Divided we fall.

Me and my wife purchased the game back in Jan 2009, we just left Age of Conan having built our T2 set, there was very little things to do in that game. So after reading Turbines forums, and having played the beta we decided to go for guardian et minstrel as our main character.

The game installed fin on both of our computers and we were able to run up the graphic settings to max and DX10, the graphic quality made this game immersive, we were also pleased with the solo introduction and the first dynamic area. Also we were greeted with a bug in the drivers which provided us with shimmering shadows, the problem was fixed 3 weeks later.

Then developping our toons was very very fun, there were so much things to do. Going through zones and levels without having to grind or do the same quests was simply awesome we were charmed, the Books, crafting, all well balanced. It was too good to be true.

The combat system is very classic, timers-click, but the fellowship maneuvers and combos make it you forget. The titles and acheivements, faction were easy to do as there was enough quests in a given area that just killing the mobs would be enough to complete 70-80% of the process leaving very little grind to go.

Moria's introduction was a blast, playing the dwarves and participating in the opening was great, we felt as we were part of the story, just like the 14 Books.

Then the shit hit the fan...

Game kept crashing after 20-40 minutes, we finally figured out there was an issue with vista 32bit and dx10, I won't go into details but the tech support section is pretty much filled with it. Turbine's easy way out was to suggest we "upgrade" to 64bit, we did but encountered a new problem... The friggin game will BSOD with X-Fi cards under 64bit Vista. So our immersive experience was heading to an end... No more surround sound! ouch...

Three days later, we're running audio in software mode, and explorng Moria and patching Book 7. Now the shadow in Moria is screwed up (read about it support section) and some tiles are just downright pitch black!

So Turbine's fix this time was to lower he shadow quality, which worked and pulled us even further away from the initial graphic immersion we had 2 months ago.

Wait a minute, is this still Lord of the Rings Online?

Now we're granted with repeatable quests, massive grinding. Having to grind faction and quests in order to get rights to quick travels... Everything is indoor, we sure can appreciate the architectures behind the zone maps, everything has a dull look. The quests are very very very repetitive and short, and the legendary weapon please, just call it a trojan, a grind in disguise, a massive one.

Nobody wants to do the quests in there, everyone just wants to do the instances "Hard mode" so the bestiaries are very hard to complete.

Lothlorien you say? Faction and token grind, that's all there is. I've seen game demos with more substance.

The experience that made us customer to LOTRO is not there after you enter Moria, plain and simple, it's not the same game. And we just don't like it, doesn't mean it's a bad game, or that they have to redo everything, I'm pretty sure it appeals to some people and good for them. But we loved level 1 to 50, and we hate Moria grind mechanics which are very similar to F2P mmo's.

We considered rolling new alts, but what for? They game developement is not heading in the same direction with no signs of supporting the same design I cannot spend evenings leveling characters confined to Shadows of Angmar without hope of continuous content hat will match my expectations.

With this I farewell everyone with met in this game, community is A+++ (eBay joke), as for the rest of you players that enjoy the new game mechanics I wish you well and long hours of playtime.

Depends on WTHeck your playing.

If you play lots of RTS's then Ignore all the No's in here.

If you play Vanguard You Really want that 8 gigs.

If your playing 99% of the mmo's or FPS's then No there is no need.

I played Vanguard with a smooth FPS with 2 gigs, and 4 gigs made hardly any difference at all. Does Vanguard even have a 64 bit exe? If not, then you know automatically that the extra gigs wont matter, because the client wont address them. Now, i currently have 8 gigs of ram, and have seen no increase in performance at all in anything that I do. I have yet to see my memory usage go over 4 gigs under any circumstance. My CPU will max out WAY before my ram will ever be an issue I would assume. It is the same as my quadcore. I have a q9550 OCed to 3.23ghz per core, and it is pretty much useless. Every game I have played, other than GTA4 will only use two cores anyway. Only Prime95 maxes my CPU, and yeah... that is what it is there for, so no surprise.

Lol you clearly Do not play Vanguard...

and yes Multicores are pointless.

Except.. that Vanguard can't access more than 2 GB of ram.  In all likelyhood it only even draws up to 1.4gb.  We'll say it uses the full 2 GB.  That leaves 2 GB for Vista and whatever else you are running.  Vista, at max, scales itself up to ~850mb (which it wouldn't even use at 4gb or 2gb because it scales back).  So even if you allow Vista 850mb there's 1.2gb left over.  So what do you need 8gb to run Vanguard for?

Even at 2gb of ram what's going to happen is most stuff will get paged out of RAM, so Vanguard will run almost as well at 2gb as 4gb except that there will be more loading off of disk when you open a vendor/load new PC's/enter a new area, but overall FPS is going to be the same, once it's done paging.  So yes you'll avoid some slowdown from loading with 4gb but it's not extremely necessary over 2gb.

Ditto, I thought this has been adressed many many times in the past.

-Multi-core require software that are multithreaded to take advantage of them, and games are not multithreaded, the most you will see is engine like Unreal Engine 2.x-3.0 where the audio is offloaded on a second thread. Even then no benchmark will see a difference between 2 or 4 cores.

-Memory, again unless the software has been set to use Large Memory Access, it will stop at 2GB. Now here is something interesting, in theory under vista/windows7 if a game use DX10 under its full extent (very important I'm not talking about a DX9 using DX10 feature sets) it will not shadow a copy of all the textures to your main memory but to the GPU memory only. That is in theory, and it would mean that a game would use even less of your main memory, but as it stands every released  DX10 games are programmed in DX9 with DX10 feature sets so everything has to be shadowed in your main memory as well as your GPU memory (That is why many of those games crash with out of memory under a 32bit Vista w/o Large Memory Accee enabled).

I vote they rename this section to christians vs atheist.

Keep it up haters and fanboys, this section get my daily 5 mins trash read, the other 5 mins I spend on 4chan, which is pretty the same level as this section.

Live stream is cool, but I've been watching it for the last 20 mins, and all they did is gank a bear at some point, killed it in under 5 seconds...

Again, this game might be good, but it seems all the footage screens and what not says otherwise... I'll probably try the game in 2-5 months and see for myself.

Whatever, mmorpg.com reviews have gone down the drain some time ago. I dunno what happenned but it seems they dropped the ball.

Reviews on this website should be renamed to:

-Player review

-Fan review

-Technical review

-Editor review

TBH I see way more Player and Fan reviews in here than anything else. Who in their right mind purchse a game based on mmorpg reviews? LOL :D

Touched a nerve? Fps for fps, if you get the same performance you might want to go for the extra which right now ATi is not delivering. Also if you wanna go green, GTX295 eats less power at full load than 4870x2 at idle. Coupled with a 750i chipset you have access to the hybrid system which eats even less power.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/hybrid_sli_desktop.html

Auto Assault? Yeah... there is a world outside mmo's, doesn't mean there are millions of game CUDA or PhysX based, but slowly it's getting there, like I said, it cost you the same, perform the same or better and you get extra API support... ATi support DX10.1 which has one game to show for, Assassin's Creed and we all know the debacle around this...

http://www.nzone.com/page/nzone_section_hardware.html

Quote:"In addition to addressing reported glitches, the patch will remove support for DX10.1, since we need to rework its implementation. The performance gains seen by players who are currently playing Assassin’s Creed with a DX10.1 graphics card are in large part due to the fact that our implementation removes a render pass during post-effect which is costly."

You building a rig for gaming or photoshoping?

-4 cores, almost non-existant support, most people buy dual because you can't get single core nowadays, otherwise a faster single is better than multiple slower cores for gaming. That said if it's a gaming rig, grab a faster dual core for the same price.

-As for vid cards, a GTX295 is a better bet at this point since you mention 1920x1200 or better as your gaming resolution. Also there is no PhysX support on ATi for the time being, go nvidia.

-64bit OS... again no game really "support" 64bit, unless you planning over 4GB there is noreason to pay extra, if it's for gaming that is. Also running 32bit OS grant you more compatibility with gaming peripherals and drivers.

-Onboard sound card = meh...

-Wireless for gaming... you serious?

-Flash card reader? k nice peripheral, but does it have to do with mmo or gaming?

I mean you're just throwing high performance computer components with no direction, is this a rig for gaming? What's your budget? How about cooling, noise? What game pad, mouse, mouse pad, keyboard you gonna use? Did you pull this out off an ebay webpage or sumtin?

Anyway, here a couple nice website you could browse for computer components.

-Tom's Hardware (price,cpu,general)

GURU 3D (gaming oriented, cpu, gpu, ppu, soundcard, etc...)

HardOPC (enthusiasts in general)

trial on launch lol name some recent mmos please

Did you read anything after the word "launch"? It says:"which is normal in the mmo industry." Meaning it is normal because every companies out there do the same THEY DON'T RELEASE TRIAL ON LAUNCH LOL.

-krackajap

And no game for a long while has had a trial on launch. You must live in some fantasy MMO land.

Yes the very same fantasy land where no companies provide no trial on launch, the same fantasy land where people actually read the whole post before replying direct personnal insults. Do you love this video so much that no one has a right to an opinion?

Gee guys loosen up, not everyone wants to bash on "your" lovely game, the post and critics were directed toward the video which I thought was the essence of this thread. Now if you're a serious company and want people to see pass they butt ugly graphics you need to come up with tutorial videos showing the insight of the game mechanic.

The company should have released some good videos, I'm sorry but the recent batch of videos released around the web for this game just kills it for me.

I have not played the game or participate in beta, but I will say this, many many potential buyers will judge this game from the videos floating around, simply because there is no trial on launch, which is normal in the mmo industry.

Furthermore, just by watching the videos nobody can really understand anything than:

-A goofy animated avatar running around and either slashing or shooting blue balls.

-Blood splash are cheesy at best.

-Models are dreadfull.

-Environment is boring.

-Every toon on screen move their butt from left to right in much unnatural manner it's scary.

What we don't see is game mechanics, leveling, guild works, progression, crafting(if there's any), setup. You get the idea, I'm not saying the game is bad, I'm just saying none of those videos are helping, matter of fact they will drive people away...

Thanks for the video, you saved me 60$, this is definitly not for me. I need more immersive graphics and environment for a mmo to grab my attention.

Thanks, and good luck.
