DC Universe Online: Weekly #3: Episodes and Cosmetic Items
News Discussion « General Discussion 8/26/10 7:46:59 AM
come on now... no accuracy in this article pertaining to CoX or CO. In the City Of games you can wear any costume you like when ever you like, with just a visit to the tailor. Yes there are costume pieces as rewards for completing group task forces or eith enemies defeated, but that be been covered above. I also agree with the other replies, that the article write is comparing apples n oranges. Costume pieces dont give buffs in CoX. The crafting system does that.

Meh... looks like a poorly rendered Warhammer. And when are the goign to get away from the map zones being point A -->B along a S-shape road . Its still a straight line from A > B no matter how many squiggles you wind through along the way.

General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 8/18/10 5:37:37 PM
if you look at the video, in just those brief second, the fully voiced and animated cut scene, the intense combat and action... how in the world can you say this is an after thought? seriously. did any of that clip look unpolished to you? was ther a lack of adequate lighting or textures? was there a lack of anything real and tangible or just imaginary stuff for trolls to complain about? people are really going insane i think. go watch moar pron.

Is DC Universe going to kill off City of Heroes?
Paragon City Hall (General) « City of Heroes 8/13/10 2:30:33 PM
i cant help but feel that DCU is geared toward very young players. I mean why is everyone picking up and tossing cars and busses? seems strange to me. and they insinuated right from the start its a button masher designed for the console controller. Even the demos i see are all on the hand held controller. anyway, i think CoX will be able to stand up and retain its playerbase over the long run. I know many will keep their subscriptions while trying DCU, just like ive always done when trying other MMOs. If you understand what COX is about, you will see that its one of the best combat systems for an MMO.
EDIT: I think the better question is, will CoX be able to survive after Star Wars: ToR :) |

DC Universe Online: Weekly #2: Iconic Play and the Lure of the IP
News Discussion « General Discussion 8/13/10 2:18:35 PM
Im chiming in because I just cant stand the unintelligible random hate for City of Hero/Villains. It has one of the best combat systems of any MMO out there, despite its age, and despite the original company that spawned it. Crytic was once a small indi company that made a great and innovative game - then the founder, Jack Emmert, let his ego grow way out of proportion and he sold the City of Hero Francise and saught to merge his company with coprorate money so they could pump games out faster. He basically fell prey to the money monster and every descicions since then has been made for shareholders and not players.
The Cryptic debacle falls on everything after they made an epic fail trying to snag a deal to make a Marvel MMO . Emmert was like damn we just lost a bajillion dollar deal - we need coorporate backing to get the job done and look like a player to the big boiz, so they mereged with atari. yay for them, shite for us.
Anyway, my point is to shed some light about the "Cryptic situation" to newer people on the scene. The way things are now, have absolutely no impact on how City of Hero/Villains works, run, plays, charges, costs, manages, monitors, or recruits players. Cryptic created the foundation of a cool game, then Paragon Studios, and NCsoft, spent years nurturing and further developing the game, far beyond what it was 6 years ago. There were ups and downs, and thats life. Dont let blame fall on a child for what its father has done. In other words, dont bash City of Heroes just because the founder of Cryptic is an egomaniacal epic fail with his other projects.

Are we seeing viral marketing in action here at MMORPG?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 3/05/10 12:45:33 AM
almost half the time i make critical posts i get a warning on this site. its absurd. but when a web site has a revisting population, it will be privately confronted by marketing representatives which inevitably makes nearly every source of information biased. but thats greed for ya. most of the "people" who work on sites liek this clearly see this as a stepping stone into more viable comapnies. they dotn care about you guys. if you were offered a position to get your foot in the door wouldnt you take it? most people would. even if its just a mere offer for a chance at an interview which might not even pan out or be a fake offer in the long run. it doesnt take much to snag someone in a competetive business like the video game industry.
i coem here because theres no invasive advertising like on ign. you will have to put up with bias everywhere. and face it guys... the companies need to manipulate marketign because all of their games suck, or are unfinished at release. |

The only way to get the MMORPG genre to evolve is to make the playerbase bigger.
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 1/16/10 11:28:27 PM
sorry but MMORPGs suck because the companies are trying to make the player base bigger... which make the games suck because they try to please everyone. |

Global Agenda: Todd Harris Beta Interview
News Discussion « General Discussion 1/13/10 11:50:02 PM
I have played each class to lvls 13-15 so far and they are all fun, interesting, unique and support diverse play styles. i must admit upon entering the game I was rather thown off and found the PVE very boring and bland. But it end up being a quick and easy way to grab some extra xp adn cash if you dont feel like pvping atm and want to slaughter dozens of angry robots chargin at you. I find the pvp combat to be exciting, challenging, diverse, and surprisingly balanced. The combat system was designed by very creative and intelligent gamers. This was the main aspect of the game I was looking forward to and it surpasses my expectations. THe best unexpected bonus to the flexibility of the game is the ability to change your equipped items at the startign area of each map. You begin each zone in a docking bay or from within a transport vehicle, like a chopper interior. Within this equipment area, as its called, you can access your inventory and reslect the weapons and special skills, mine, or turrets, etc. If you fight some guys in the field and find that your weapon and special ability choices are inadequate, you can return to the equipment area and swap them out for a better suited set. After the match, and you've returned to a city, you can just walk into to the reprogramming shop and even change your class build without penalty or cost. So if you decide you want to try out a heavier melee or ranged weapon proficiency, or you want to switch to a support role, you can do it in a flash in between missions. No fees, no cool down periods. Lots of cool and fun weapons and skills. Theres somethign for each type of role you want to fill, and even enough room for you to make your own mixture of specialties in combat. Very easy to experiment. you never have to worry about making the wrong choice or wasting skill points. The game is set up really well when it comes to finding the combat preferences and tactics that best suit your play style. I cant wait to try the larger scale agency vs agency stuff. If you've wanted a new game with great pvp, I think you'll be happy GA is finally here. I dont know how much more extensive the pve will get, but my experience so far is that it will be unfulfilling as ther are no quests or npcs with stories. But the bright side is, you wont be camping boars and grinding for copper just to buy a crappy sword every 5-10 levels. OH also, all of your weapons are automatically issued to you on your inventory screen... they are simply unlocked as you level. You dont have to buy the stuff you really need. Armor is decorative and can be dyed. Minor enhancements can be slotted on an additional inventory screen that give small bonuses to stats ( this is along the lines of cybernetic implants). Skill matters. Use your head, your hand eye coordination, and choice of weapons and skills. No auto targeting. Sorry lol. |

Blizzard's new MMO revealed! I cracked it!
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 12/03/09 6:49:40 AM
Well everyone wants in on video game money and having just finished the Avatar video game, which was truely awsome, I can see how cameron would want to embark on more projects like it. I definately think Blizz has to go sci-fi/space with their next MMO, but Aliens wouldnt have enough depth... hunting the same alien creature over and over again would be boring. And Terminator is so over played, and the time travel would be problematic to implement. But who knows... |

good stuff im really glad to see you positions beign taken against controversial issues. this website, like any source of information should address real issues and not spew candy coated paid reviews all the time. It means much more to the community to hear somethign meaningful from the staff than from concerned forum posters. Everything posted gets turned into trolling/flame wars but the ignorant. Keep up the good work. Never comprimise integrity. |

The 100 players per server is GENIOUS!!
General Discussion « All Points Bulletin (APB) 8/27/09 10:48:12 AM
Champions Online did the same thing. but at least give the APB managment their due credit for having the balls to be direct with teh public on this basic feature of the game. I read a lot of material over the entire life of the CO website and from various otehr sites, and not once did cryptic revela that they set up the game with only 100~ people interacting at one.
honestly, when the fuck did Massive turn into a grand total of 100? I suppose its when MMOs became glorified chat rooms for the unemployed and when teh console demographic breeched the PC world.
what ever, neitehr companies are getting my money. |

World of Warcraft: A Quick Look at the Hunter
News Discussion « General Discussion 8/07/09 9:01:36 PM
has it really come to this? A hunter PSA? I cant believe that there are no decent volunteer writers producing half interesting stories for this site to post instead of these silly content fillers. With 364 games listed you'd think there would be something mor einteresting to write about? But i guess not. epic yawn! |
