Diablo 3: Favorite Diablo III Classes (So far!)
News Discussion « General Discussion 5/22/12 2:10:03 AM
I like the witch doctor most so far. It's fun, to run around with a huge army. And having those dogs explode over and over, if they keep ressurrecting, gave me "kill in less than X seconds" achievements. Currently fighting my way through nightmare mode. |

Diablo 3 accounts hacked, gold and items stolen
General Discussion « Diablo 3 5/22/12 2:06:43 AM
I agree with the one guy saying, that it's nearly always the users fault when an account gets "hacked". I never had any account of mine hacked. I don't fall for "you won a mount! go to this website and login with your account details to claim it!" phishing attempts. I don't give out my password to anyone (it's crazy how many people do that). I use different passwords for different accounts. I don't download "install this mod to deal 10 times as much damage!" plugins. And so on and so on. My D3 account wasn't hacked either. The people surely clicked on "install this to have 1 million gold" links or something like that.
And "hacked"? What most "hacked" people did was basically giving out their account information for free. How is that hacking? It's like some shady guy in the night approaching me, saying "hey, you.... want me to clean your car and flat? I do it for free, just give me the keys.... and tell me when you're not at home... he he he...", and I'd give him the keys and what money I had in my pockets. And some days later I'd shout "omg I got robbed!!!". |

Most antisocial game ever?
General Discussion « League of Legends - Clash of Fates 5/19/12 12:59:13 AM
Yeah, LoL is something you play with friends, but not with strangers. Though HoN's community is worse. In PvP games, the people are always more unfriendly, because there they don't lose to some boss npc, but to another player, and many players can't bear that. And in team PvP games, people are even more unfriendly, because there they have the feeling to lose because of the crappy teammates. And in small team PvP games, it's the worst.

I don't know... I played Diablo 1 and 2 a lot. Really a lot. And 3? My highest level character is now 20 or 21... and I'm a bit like "meh". It's a good game alright, but... somehow I don't feel like playing it a lot. I come home after work, watch some tv, play a bit of Tera, then play half of the next level in diablo 3, and then consider playing tera again, or something else, or read a good book. It's not a bad game, but somehow it's not gripping me. |

MMORPGs can have quests only as interesting as their world allows. In most MMORPGs, the world allows only two things: crafting and fighting, and crafting often doesn't matter. So the quests are about fighting. Why is that surprising? Once we get more MMORPGs with terraforming, or with... I don't know.. weather manipulation, or creating new NPCs by yourself that run around... then there can be more kinds of quests. But right now? You play an MMORPG? Fighting it is. The only thing that differs is the combat system, though most have the system we all knowfrom WoW, so Tera is there a step forward. |

Sounds pretty neat to me. And you can expand that a lot in future. But it already sounds like a nice idea. Having guild people get voted into higher positions, be the chief of a zone, collect taxes, place new vendors in the zone to enable people to buy interesting stuff, and put trainers in remote places? Neat. :)
I haven't tried deathmatch either, though it sounds like fun. 10 level 20 popori vs 1 lvl 30 baraka? And you can bet gold? :D |

I read a lot of good reviews about this router:
http://www.amazon.com/D-Link-Whole-Home-Router-Wireless-N-DIR-645/dp/B005DIPWFC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1337179571&sr=8-1
It supports both wlan and ethernet. So I guess with that I'm on the safe side to have that 150mbit thing work to full efficiency? I can then either use the WLan, for example with my laptop when I'm on the balcony or something and don't need the speed that much, and can connect my desktop pc via the ether cable? |
|
|
Hi. I'm moving to a new flat these days. So far, I've never used WLan in my old flat to get into the internet, but just some cable and shared a router with a roommate. Now I need a new router, since he keeps the current one, and I thought about using WLan. Here is the question: In the offer for their service, the ISP I'm checking out mentions: "To use the full speed of the 150MBit/s internet connection, your PC/Laptop should not be older than two years, since it requites a Gigabit-Ethernet (a "fast ethernet" only works to up to 100Mbit/s). So, if I get a router that supports up to 300MBit/s, and a WLan PCIe card, that supports up to 150MBit/s, then I should be able to use the stuff, no matter what's on the board or whatnot, right? I'm not good with hardware, and want to make sure that I can use the 150Mbit/s, before ordering that service.
Thanks. |

So now leader of guilds with a guildlevel higher than three can try to get votes and become the boss of... a zone of Tera, or something? And then what? Do NPCs mention that players name, or does the guild get some money (like taxes), or what is it good for? |
|
|
So, according to the OP, since we know that some people are killers, if we witness a murder, we should just shrug and not care? Because we know such stuff happens? If something is wrong it's wrong. Blizzard couldn't deliver what they promised up to the last second. They did promise a smooth launch. But even a day after release, you were often randomly kicked from games or had problems logging in. Not to mention the lack of something like a login queue is just silly. And of course, Blizzard knew what was coming. They could have prepared for it, but didn't. Instead they had a good laugh at the struggling customers, and were glad about the free advertisment.

And so I fight King Leoric, just me and my companion. And the King is at about 15% health. I smell victory. And then I get a "You have been removed from the game" message.
Thanks...
With todays patch, they added a political system for the game, where people of guilds with a guild level 3 or higher can try to become the boss of certain zones. Funny stuff. And they added a slider so you can add more blood and gore. And fixed bugs. I guess I will play more Tera.
Edit: tried it again, fought him this time with fewer potions (since I used some up at the last time). At 50% leorics health I get removed from the game. |

Godamn shit game... Now out for nearly a day in Europe, and I still can't login. I wouldn't even mind playing solo. But no: even for that you have to be connected to their servers. Not to mention the lack of a waiting queue...
Seriously Blizzard: do you need advertisment that badly that you have let the game kil the servers, so everyone shouts "omg d3 is so successful that the servers crash!"? Would it have been such a horror to simply have a smooth launch? |

It always depends on what you expect. If you expect a holy grail of MMORPGs to put all others to shame, you will be disappointed (you shouldn't expect that from any MMORPG these days anyway).
Good: - graphics and animations - sounds and music - lots of classes and races (and actually some quite different ones too. In addition to the human type races (elves, human demons and humans), you also got some kind of demons, little girl people, some fat people race and anthropomorphic mammals (rabbit, panda, cat, pug, bunny etc)) - good character creation - lots of ways to customize your gear and stuff - good amount of stuff that requires group effort - great combat system (especially when you play a lancer) - interesting pvp options (such as death match) - interesting loot system (what with beeing able to pick up loot that other players, that migh have been questing in that area, didn't pick up for any reason) - mostly bug free
So-so: - decent crafting system - theme park
Bad: - grind - generic quests - only one starting zone - each class is stuck with a single weapon type for the entire game (ie two handed axe for the berserker) |
|
|
The animations are neat too. When you jump, then the clothes fall up and down (not in one of those "one image for flying clothes, one image for clothes when standing still" ways, but smoothly animated). Some of the player models, after climbing a wall or something, wipe dust off their knees or catch their breath. And, as far as I met them now, the bosses are nicely animated too. So I was killing some of the earliest actual outdoor group quest guys yesterday (before doing the mistake and trying to log into D3). And they're really well animated. When they lose their balance and slowly topple over while trying to keep standing. When they start to charge up some powers somehow and lighning sizzles over them. It's neat. Sure, the progression and quest system is generic, but so far, the game is still fun for me. |

The launch in Europe is utter BS.
Even more than an hour after the launch, people can rarely log in (after copy-pasting or typing their password in hundreds of times). If they have the nerves for that, they can kill one or two mobs, and then get kicked out of the game. Why is there no login-queue? Why do people who want to play the game are forced to type or paste in their password hundreds of times? I don't know. That the servers are that crowded that people get constantly kicked and can't login anymore was to be expected I guess. After all: "players can't play the game because of there are just too many!" is better advertisment than just "game started". |

So, my first char was a lancer, and I thought "hey, this game is fun, let's have a Let's Play series about it. But better start from scratch with that. Since I don't want to delete my Lancer like that, I choose another class". And I pondered some back and forth, and thought that a mystic might be fun. So far so good, I level up my mystic, reach level 20, and want to hop into a dungeon. I check how long it wll take to get in, and the game estimates 12 minutes. And so the first 5 minutes pass (which I of course spend with questing), and I hope that maybe I get in early. And another 5. And another 10. And another 10 minutes. And I'm still not in the dungeon. And I wonder "what? Why? Maybe there are too many healers?", but as a mystic, healer is the only thing I can choose. I guess it's the lack of tanks. Still: I thought "well, it's saturday afternoon, and there are lots of players online... maybe you're still unlucky, better try later". And some hours later I tried it again. The dungeon finder estimates a waiting time of 14 minutes, and 30 minutes later I'm still questing. I don't get it... is it in this game, in the early levels, really about impossible to get into a dungeon, unless you are a tank?
It's not only the waiting time that annoys me. Another reason is simply the amount of time required for logging in to get into a dungeon. You can't just say "oh, that dungeon will take about an hour, I have still like 80 minutes left beforeI have to leave / shower / go to bed or whatever". You have to add at least half an hour for the waiting time alone. If you create a let's play video, then you also have to make sure, that you have enough harddisk space, for at least half an hour of additional waiting material. If the dungeon takes an hour, and you take 45 minutes just to get into a dungeon, then that's means you have to make sure to have another 100gb of harddisk space available, just for the waiting time. And running out of space inmidst of the dungeon would be pretty sucky.
Well, I guess the dungeon finder ain't that bad, but I'm just disappointed. You're level 11, leave the starter island, think "well, 9 more levels and I can enter dungeons! that will be fun!", and you spend hour after hour, slowly levelling up... You reach level 20, get some glyphs, maybe enchant a weapon, rearrange your skill bar to be ideal for some group fighting... And then nothing. It continues like the last few hours, because you can't get into any dungeon. Bah... |

Holy Moly super "kill 10x wolves" grind until eternity...
General Discussion « TERA 5/11/12 1:09:58 AM
About all MMORPGs are just about killing mobs in PvE? At least Tera got interesting combat. |
|
|
Well, the game is somewhat straight forward. In comparison to WoW, you got:
Good - better graphics - more interesting combat - people all over the place (in wow, outside the lvl 85 stuff, it seemed very empty, the last time I played it) - no cash shop
Bad - fewer starting zones - quests are more monotonous
All in all, Tera ain't is fun. But only when you don't expect more than it delivers. In the end, it's just a well done but still somewhat generic theme park MMORPG, with more interesting combat than most other theme park ones. If you expect it to be the holy grail of all MMORPGs, then you will be disappointed. If you expect a fun theme park MMORPG, you should be right. |

Grind ASAP to max level is mandatory on PvP servers
General Discussion « TERA 5/09/12 1:04:55 AM
But that's the case in 99% of the MMORPGs. Player with higher level > player with lower level. And when they have roughly the same level: Player with better equipment > player with worse equipment.
That's why I don't like PvP in MMORPGs. 90% of the time it's not about who is the better player, but simply who invested more time (or, in F2P games, who invested more money). Since I got a fulltime job, I can't invest as much time as many others. Which means I'd lose most of the time. Which means I rather stick to games like TF2 for PvP. |

I don't think Diablo3 is bad, I just think it's shallow. But that counts for the huge majority of games that aim at the masses. Diablo 1 was more of a horror game, that became somewhat less so in D2, and the trend continued in D3.
Also, D3 is basically D2 with a slight graphics update and some minor changes. Exactly as SC2 was for SC1. So D3 is typically blizzard. |
