Let's see what I would like to have implemented after release...

1. spacecombat made into a real flightsim ala X-Wing vs Tie Fighter

2. territorial warfare, where guilds can fight over chunks of planets with the possibility for cross-faction guilds

3. deep crafting-system, where the best items are crafted and not looted from boss-mobs

4. item degredation to keep the economy runnning (tied with a deep crafting system see pt.3)

5. mini-games to gamble, like the chess-thingy in the film, or even better stuff like pod racing

6. last but not least the storyline can be extended basically endlessly

If we look at EvE, we allready knwo that there's tons of features that can be added/implemented over the years.

Ha!  You just described Pre-CU Star Wars Galaxies.

1. The people who makes these games are not gamers at heart. They are people who are only passionate about making money.

This is completely false. You're thinking more along the lines of investors...and there's nothing wrong with wanting a good ROI.

I'm glad somebody pointed this out.  Reading through the posts and I don't think enough people understand just how expensive it is to create a software product such as a game.  Then on top of that to add continued support & development indefinitely.

Pre-CU.

I've played some decent games since then but nothing comes close in comparison.

got to this base and kill everyone inside it...also all the bases look the same.

 No.

All your bases are belong to us!

Sounds like a great idea from a business standpoint.  Especially for making the offer end prior to launch date so that you guarantee a subscription before the "try before you buy" option is available.

I haven't been following STO as closely as some of you all but I'd be concerned about how they plan on integrating any lore into the game for the Borg.  Unless they designate the Borg playable species to be a pvp-centric choice without a lore because they have separated from the collective somehow.

I disliked that you had to reach a pretty mid-range level before you could start any crafting.  I've always been more of a crafter or businessman so to put off that aspect for so long and leave me only combat questing was too much for me.

Nice information Xondar.

For the posts about the asteroids, I'm betting it'll be one of those "background" items that you can increase/decrease with a slider bar in the visual options menu.

Just got to chime in on some of the points here.

Patch time sucked:  I did a digital download of the game and agree it took way longer than it should have.  But going in I knew what to expect after doing digital downloads of at least 4 other MMO's previously.  Even if the OP wasn't doing the digital download and was just patching you have to think that the game's been out for more than 12 months so each monthly patch + all the minor updates and the major revisions needed to be downloaded.

Combat got repetitive:  agreed but I tend to think it does in most games regardless of what genre they are.

Finding Quests sucked:  I always found it rather easy as the minimap or full map would display large exclamation points wherever a quest giver was located.  I pretty much navigated around by the map instead of visually trying to make my way around town.

Night time quests sucked:  I did dislike the single player instanced aspect of this part but understood the need to have it.

I'm sorry, I misread.  I thought the title was "Fisting in WoW".

If a game is going to have some form of microtransactions, is it really fair for them to continue to charge the 'standard' $14.99 per month subscription fee?

Fair is what the market will support.  They're not creating a game to be fair to everybody, they're creating it to succeed financially.

I'm hoping microtransactions make in.  One boob at a time.

I just don't understand the reasoning for microtransactions in this game other than the company wants to make more money.

Where is the benefit to the player?  Removing or simply not putting something as an ingame reward and selling it for cash doesn't make the game better.  It just lets people pay to not play the game which doesn't make much sense.

There's nothing wrong with a game company wanting to make more money.  Not everything can be done on principal alone.  But, if they can make more money off of this game then the next time a brilliant idea with limited appeal comes by them they may take a chance on it and "float" it just to have it made.

Don't forget that companies, no matter what industry, all need to make money to stick around and be successful.

...Many  MMOs don't charge for expansions anyway...

I'd have to disagree.  What I see is that many MMO's do charge for expansions.  WoW, SWG, EQ2, CoH/CoV, FF XI, etc...

60 Day Time Card for the Matrix Online.  Who cares that it's only got 17 days left of play time.

I just recently tried the PotBS trial and I would suggest you do that before purchasing it.  In fact, try every trial you can and you may just find yourself unpleasantly satisfied for long enough that a new game has been released.

On PotBS, the avatar combat was sufficient for my tastes.  The world itself seemed on the small side though.  Going from one end to the other took perhaps all of 45 minutes I would guesstimate.  The naval battles, though fun at first, quickly became turn fights similar to the way SWG space fighting works but without the Z axis coming into play.

It may in your best interest to just wait for one of the future games you're looking forward to.  If so and you just want some F2P crap to tide you over I can only suggest Dungeon Runners as being worthwhile to kill boredom.  A really old one with awful graphics that is free and actually has decent mechanics is Rubies of Evintide.  Great community as well since the whole game is maintained by players now.

So I was lucky enough to win a free copy and I'm looking at rolling some type of tank character or maybe the Dark Templar.  Next month or sooner I'll be looking for a guild to play with on the PvP server.  Looking forward to the fun to be had, I did play shortly on the trial version before so was happy with what I saw.

Anyone else notice the "newer" guys have a crap ton of posts versus us guys that have been around 3 times as long?

I did notice that.  I have to agree with the earlier comment that there's really not much to add as far as game development goes because everything seems familiar.

Another is "Sell Misc Loot"  One button automatically dumps all the grey junk loot - loot that serves no other purpose in MMOs other than to be sold - into the sell window.

Am I the only one that thinks this is a completely unneeded feature? Rather than programming a sell all grey loot option, why not just do away with grey loot? I have always found it to be a waste of dev time to make loot that serves no other purpose than to be sold. Just have the mob drop coin, or have a "corpse appraisal", in which when you loot the corpse, any value from the corpse is credited to you. Grey items serve no other purpose than to junk up your inventory anyway...

Agreed that junk loot should be done away with.  But as long as it's there then the feature is useful.

I'd work in my undies if I could but I doubt my direct reports would respect me much.

Anybody else find this piece funny in the filefront article?   "(mainly QQ coins)"
