Once again, this is why there is a great importance for social and player-driven end-game features.

Take player cities for example. That alone is a long-term goal to work towards. Meeting other players, agreeing and disagreeing with leadership, taxes, house and city placement, rivals with other nearby cities etc,  just add to the overall entertainment and competitiveness.

Social Features are the backbone of sustain. This gives players something to do while more content is being generated.

i agree.  playing swg i loved having my own house, collecting and decorating it.  whenever i got burned out of aspects of the game i would always go back and work on my house.   i loved being able to put my house in a city with my friends as well.  one of the reasons i kept playing swg for so long.

i think you are right

looks cool!

yes

like the ideas and concepts but really dont like the look of the game.

let me start by saying im a huge SWG fan.   i dont think it is fair to compare TOR as a SWG 2.0.  it never was supposed to be.  it is fair to compare SWG and TOR if you are trying to figure out if you want to play TOR.   TOR is its own game and if you enjoy it im glad that you do.   I wish TOR all the success it can get.   i do think there are plenty of us who would love to play SWG 2.0 and i hope someday maybe we will get the chance (though i doubt it will ever happen).

I have heard ( and i dont know much about this title ) that http://www.therepopulation.com/ wil be the "spiritual successor to swg" many of the same coveted SWG features are supposed to be there.

however I have no idea where they are in development or even who they are currently. Worth a look if you are interested in that type of game.

thanks for the link i did see this and it seems interesting will keep an eye on it.

hope so!

the pursuit of profit is why anyone makes a game to begin with so thats not necessarily a bad thing.  making games is not a charitable endeavor.  these companies are making games they think their consumers want and will spend their money on.  so its up to us really.  if the games being made are not what you want dont spend your money on them.

Hey guys LOL...

Remember how MMO's were back in the day? remember when you sat there with your group of bros you've never met before but gamed with every night and talked about how amazing MMORPG's were going to be in the future?

yeah little did we know ....  :-(

i can only hope that games will return to the more complex, open/virtual world, sandbox type games.   thats why i started playing mmorpgs.

a dip in the sandbox would be the cure!  unfortunately your sandbox options are very limited at this time.

i wonder if the devs do read mmorpg.com myself.   if they dont they should.  i would think it would help to see what your target customers think about things.

Each "innovation"  you list is started off by saying that it's not innovative..  *confused*

was thinking the same.  its like your telling us its innovative to not be innovative??

blah blah blah

That was until i was no longer the target demographic

all these plus i enjoy creating my own unique character and building it.

star wars galaxies pre-nge. hasnt been anything even close to it since.

star wars galaxies!  played from just  a few weeks after launch until the end!

too many players now want instant gratification.  they are not willing to take time and work for something.  they dont see the rewards in working hard or long for something (and maybe  failing a few times).  i would rather take my time and earn something rather than get it quick or by some random drop,    i agree i think hard mmorps were better.  i dont even want a tutorial i enjoy being dropped into a virtual world with just a few things and figuring it out on my own.

was just wondering do you think fans of sandbox type games have higher expectations or too high expectations from a game?  it seems to me that there is a big enough market for a well made sandbox game but there doesnt seem to be one currently.  i dont think it would be as big as WoW or SWTOR necessarily but should be big enough  to be profitable.  when you read these forums i see so many looking for a good sandbox.  are they just a vocal minority?

i enjoyed reading that and have to agree with him!

My ideal SWG would be the preNGE skillsystem combined with later NGE features and content on top of a rewritten graphics engine. Without the TCG of course. Oh and flying ewoks, unless you get to hunt and kill them.

yes!  would have loved to play a combination of both.  the nge sucked for sure in the begining but the devs towards the ends were  doing some really cool stuff.  its just a shame how it all went down.  i miss the game already, there is nothing else like it.
