FYI the game zones are all instanced with max 48 players. Everytime you have 48 players in 1 zone the game makes a new copy of itself in another instance. The exception is the sieges that can hold 2x48=96 players.

 

This has been known and discussed since the game came out.

Each instance can hold way more then 48 people, we had a fight with 97 guild members being online and meeting another 3 raids from different guilds.

When you have around 100 people in same instance the new one will pop up, however you can still switch to the fullest one.

There is also a limit when system does not show you fullest instance, but if you open that windows 2,3 times you will get it.

You have some feats ( skills ) that work only if you have sword + shield thats why you see everyone is using them.
Ranger dont really sword or daggers you just switch weapons when you want to do melee CC and then you switch back.

There is no  conundrum.

On PvE server you can PvP in:
- Border kingdoms ( where sieges & pvp mats are )
- Minigames

On PvP server you can PvP:
- Everywhere except 3 major cities ( those are without mobs just NPCs like traders, trainers etc... )

Not many people can handle PvP in AoC as the major rule is if you see someone coming he will attack you in 90% of cases if you see 2+ coming you will be attacked 100%.

Few of my friends just started to play AoC ( i had 1 year break but now Iam back ) and they are like wtf this is like some FPS game when it comes to PvP.  I played a lot of MMO's and in AoC there is definitely most PvP.

In lineage 2 that have FFA there was not so much PvP you could level normally without being worried of attack.  ( at least till C2 then I quit it )

In Darkfall there was full loot so a lot of players just avoided you as they did not wanna loose items.

In Eve Online well its similiar imagine AoC is just one big 0.0. space and you are jumping in area where enemy alliance is controling it.

 

p.s. The reason that AoC have so much PvP is that for every Player Kill you get PvP XP and if you die you do not loose anything ( except your PvP stats )

Regarding zone loading well it should be bellow 5 seconds now on decent rig.
As for having to run for hours ... I wish there were more traveling .. Funcom made it quite easy and you can almost port from anywhere to everywhere.

I think its time you run free trial and check it out again.

It wont be seamless the only difference will be that instead of you clicking on some item or npc to transport you to next zone you can walk thru it and then get loading screen. ( note: on decent rig loading screen is less then 5 seconds )

And probably the main difference is you will see the next zone so no doors or caravan NPC's.

It will basically work a lot like Vanguard did back at release.
Personally I prefer clicking on something to zone then to be surprise by it. ( well i prefer no zones but .... )

While I understand your frustration they really need to work on additional features to serve 100% of community and not those 0.5% ones with uber rigs and ATI cards.

One of my guildie bought almost the same setup as you however he knew when he order 2x xfire ATI's that he wont be able to use advance shadows ( and yes quality is much much better with those ).

 

I have a feeling you knew it too that's why I dont know why you rage about it, except if you did not know before.
( in that case always do some research before )

You should email your ISP not Funcom as there is no reason for them to block your IP.

If you can spare 9$ for the game try it out.

Personally I preferred open world that happens after tortage as tortage is heavily instances and it I did not get that MMO feeling from it.

As for population well servers were merged so you should not worry about being on empty one.

For most populated EU servers you have Fury PvP one ( do not join it if you cant endure FFA ) and Crom for PvE.

 

p.s. Most complains past tortage were during first year when game lacked quests at certain level ranges but thats not the case anymore, there is tons of quests now. ( you can get to level 80 with quests and skipping like half of quests available to you )

EU Fury PvP is the most populated AoC server. ( most likely worldwide not just in EU )

Most likely within next 2 to 3 weeks, if everything goes well with today's merges.

Well it seems test were secessful, siege on test live went great, players confirmed those major lag issues are gone.
( some said that latency was a bit bigger then usually )

I was there but came late so it was full and could not test it my self.

Some tests to Improve Siege performance
An update this evening on some promising changes aimed at improving the performance of siege game-play.

Performance Updates on the test servers
With tonight's update to the test server we are testing some new infrastructure configurations for our servers that we hope will contribute significantly to improving the stability and performance in siege game-play.

Basically we are testing a new system that should allow for the hardware to automatically support a siege instance much better and ensure that the physical server running a siege is not being taxed by other processes.

So how can you help?
Given the merge downtime it is a great opportunity for us to utilise the increased population on the test server to see how the new settings work.

You don't necessarily have to take part in actual sieges either (although some of the developers will most likely be running some for testing purposes). Just playing the game will provide us with valuable data on the viability of these changes. It will be important for us to see that all other playfield actions also function correctly with the new configuration.

So simply playing as normal on the test server will allow us to identify any possible issues with this change.

What happens next?
That will depend on the testing. If all goes well then we will aim to deploy these changes to the live servers as part of the downtime for one of the early 1.06 updates.

The team believe that this can make a noticeable difference to the performance in sieges. It is though, probably just a step in the right direction alongside the other optimisations that are planned. However, with a little luck, it could be a significant step forward.

Someone above also pointed out their collision detection could be causing problems, compiling that problem on top of necros and particle effects, it could be all of these things together that cause so many crashes within a siege.

 

 

Well on Fury EU the problem is that during the siege instance crash (aka everyone get DCed ) and siege is over :)
 

Hope they will fix that before expansion.

I also think they should reduce the number of participants from 48vs48 to 24vs24 so if guild can do raids its own so can sieges.
