You may have lost nothing waiting on Darkfall Online. Believe it or not, there are 100s, if not thousands, of guilds out there that have put together a lot of work getting a guild ready for DFO. One of the reasons people put in the work they do is because of the words from the developers. When developers lie and ship crap, it makes it just that much harder for the good development companies to get future projects. Companies launching projects that were in the state there were in like Vanguard, AoC, and to a lesser extent PoTBS need to realize the damage they are doing to the MMORPG community as a whole. If I sold you a hybrid for $25,000 and delivered a 2000 3 cylindar that gets 50 mpg, you'd report me to the better business bureau for bait and switch. Some of these MMORPG companies do the same type of b.s. and a lot of people accept it as the normally way of doing business. Blizzard and now Turbine with LOTRO have proven you can deliver a quality project. There is no excuse for the AoCs and Vanguards of the community any longer

I'm curious as to whom Cryptic brought over from PE/P2 considering the similarities between the two projects. Anyone have a link of who they brought over?

Funcom still doesn't get. Gameplay > graphics, always, yet they continue to push for graphics. You can have the greatest graphics ever, but if your game plays like crap and 95% of your people are crashing twice a night or can't play at all because of bugs, wtf is the point of the DX10 graphics? I hope they enjoy the fact they'll keep their 50,000 graphix nut gamers happy with DX10 while their 1,000,000 customers that went on to WAR or back to WoW enjoy games that can actually be played. Again, I can't believe they didn't learn anything from Vanguard:SOH.

The most disappointing thing about this entire game is that this game was "content complete" and ready to launch in October 2006. Funcom witnessed the backlash that gamers around the globe had against Sigil and Vanguard:SOH had from a launch with a game that was clearly, not ready for prime time. Yet, Funcom says they had no choice but to launch when they did. My question is, if just two months prior to the Funcom launch you get $37 million dollars in funding, why did you not take that money and get the game "right" before launch? The forums were filled with PvE haters and post after post of how this was going to be THE elite "PVP" game on the market and we now see how it turned out. I'm a RP-PVE fan and I feel that the PvE player got the shaft with this game with regards to the lack of support from fellow gamers and Funcom. Yet, even I feel extremely sorry for the PvP crowd because they really got boned over regarding PvP in AoC. The AoC management team failed and if Funcom gives the the keys to another project, then I feel Funcom deserves to crash and burn. On the bright side, there is always SoE always ready to swoop in and buy the pieces of what should have been a great game. At least SoE is making an effort with regards to Vanguard to turn it into a decent game.

Well, Aventurine has a long list of "FEATURES" and Tasos says it is "FEATURE COMPLETE". In four months we'll know if Aventurine was spewing the same lies that Funcom spewed concerning content. Only time will tell. Hell, the list of features for Darkfall Online is so thick it even includes ship to ship combat. About the only feature it doesn't list is space combat, so it suppose to be the most feature complete game ever released. Guess we'll all know by the end of December just how truthful Aventurine is.

Personally, I think they've been on vacation for the last five years. I believe that most of the coding for this game gets done at a local univerisity in Athens and the core team at the office has to wait until end of terms to incorporate any new code into the current working model. Remember, Dark & Light was developed this way to keep costs down and it wouldn't suprise me in the least to see this company doing the same thing. After all, they are getting EU monies for research and development in the gaming industry.

Very good post, OP. Brad McQuaid and Sigil got caught up in the exact same problem. Sure most everyone who was around the first six months of 2007 knows all about the drama that transpired, but it can't be forgotten that when Vanguard Saga of Heroes needed the entire team the most, the team was infighting and some were bored with Vanguard and IMHO, moved on to other projects like the comic book MMO Sigil was working on. Funcom is creating the same exact problem with The Secret World. They have several staff members that were assigned to AoC and then assigned to The Secret World as well. People can say all they want to how people can work on different games at the same time. However, I have to counter that if a person is restricted by cannon and lore or unrestricted with a new project, which would be more enticing to work in? Most creative people I know don't like restrictions. Again, IMHO, I think the restrictions that the Conan lore put on the developers got them bored of their own project. After all, back in November of last year when the crafting community asked about a crafting update, we were told that it is in game and has been mechanically functional for about a year. We also all know how the crafting system turned out. It shows just how bored and unimaginative they got. It was all about combat and nothing else in the game really mattered. The good part about AoC is the writers never got bored with the lore. From beginning to end game, AoC has a great story behind it.

Like I said before on our forums, we are still testing and working out the kinks. When it's ready it will be ready. We want to ensure we take our time on it instead of rushing it to live. This is something that many players have voiced for us to do in relation to the updates and the timeframe in which they happen. The information is also in result of more information incomming in later this week. I just wanted to make sure I touched the topic on letting everyone know that we will have a follow up on the status.
Why wasn't that approach taken to closed beta? I have many guild members that were in closed beta saying that Funcom is using that line now, but when closed was drawing to a close, you all ignored people begging you guys to delay launch for a year because of just how bad of shape things were in, especially your crafting system. What this is telling me is that from now on when a developer says things are "mechanically functional" that means "ya, it is in game but runs like crap."

Now that I know the man in charge of the train wreck was 24 years old, it explains everything of the last three years and Funcom. Good grief.

We'll see. People have faith in the IDEA. The rest is yet to be judged. A bigger company doesn't mean a more complete game, its just not logical. In fact, some larger companies are actualy WORSE than small companies at releasing what they promise. I could have told you ages ago that AoC wasn't going to have those features in at release, shouldn't have shocked anyone but the blind fanboys. 1/10 the staff? Where'd you find those figures lol. Fail less.
Easy. Funcom has over 300 employees and Aventurine is said to have 30. Thus, 1/10th the staff, i.e. 10%. Even if it is 200 employees for Funcom, it dwarfs Aventurine's staff.

Remember, there -IS- a new video. It was shown to a bunch of guys in a conference in Greece.
Of course, the fans and followers of Darkfall don't need to be presented with new videos. I mean...why would they want that? They've got text-updates after all.
Oh wait.
There is no proof that the video that Tasos showed at the conference was a new video. The video shown at the conference could very well have been the last video update we had. If they had a new video, I'm sure we would have seen it already because people have been screaming for it on the official forums for the last month and Tasos insists it isn't ready yet.

Hell, even two days before launch the game director admitted that BATTLE KEEP SIEGES were not avaiable yet, along with a host of other features that were "in", but not really. DFO will be the exact same way. They have 1/10 the staff and think they can deliver 3x as much game as AoC. We'll see. My bet is that this "feature complete" list of DFO will take a decade or two to make it into the live game.

Polarization, Please don't try to cloud the issue with FACTS. Aragon100 and his army of fanbois will not have it. Besides, when December 31 comes and goes without a launch, we can all sit here and laugh at the fanbois of DFO. The sad part is, Aventurine keeps talking about this "self publishing plan" that they are holding above all the publishers heads out there saying "you have to beat this if you want our business", yet they don't show anyone this "plan". I think the plan, like the game, is nothing more than vaporware. Hopefully, Aventurine can prove me wrong.
Still, we are playing other games, hang out with our girlfriend/childs and have a job. And looking forward for something new to fall back and relax with. Some here are just here 18h/day trying to convice the world that Aventurine and Darkfall is a hoax. Wich of this are most pathetic?
Gee, have not posted in a week and so that I did today I'm a troll spending 18hours/day here? Give me a break. And for the record, just because something is vaporware, doesn't mean it is a hoax.

Want to know how many concurrent subscribers Funcom has? Wait until Q4 2008 Financials. Under revenue from AoC you'll be able to take total revenue for the quarter, divide that by 3, then divide that by $15. While not exact, it will give us a good ball park into how many concurrent subscribers Funcom has for AoC. Then the fanbois will scream, you can't use Q4 financials. WAR and WOTLK were released so it hurt financials. Well guess what FANBOIS, during AoC release, WoW actually added additional servers. How many other games out there added realms during AoC's release period? And OP, you are spot on. Funcom's numbers to not add up at all.
