Fun read! Looking forward to the growing of Your dwarf! Getting to level 2 is a most important stage in every warriors life.

Year is 2056, with the encroachment of P2P (paid-to-play, as pay-to-play had gone extinct long, long ago), Ms. Jimena S. decided to write an article titled "The Future is Now, Again".

Then there will be many folks defending F2P with cash shops, claiming it's more fair than the emergent paid-to-play mmo's, which award most money to the winners and paid others only minimal wage.  At least in F2P with cash shops winners pay for freeloading losers' gameplay, or so they claim.  But now, in paid-to-play mmo's, companies award those "cheaters" with stronger psyionic power more cash per time spent than players who weren't born with such ability.

Yeah, in the future when works will all be done by robots and humans will have more than abundant resources, thanks to colonization and mining of several adjacent planets, the only thing matters to game companies is fame and reputation.  So more people drawn to the game, more fame points the company will accumulate.  The getting- paid-to-play model will replace the traditional model of free-to-play with item malls as the ultimate model for all mmo's.

Just food for thought. :)

And then when you order clothes and food (and let's not forget beer) from inside the game you are spending time in (of course getting paid while doing so) the time limit for a free order is down to 4.5 miliseconds from the 30 min of today.

That is why Flower for the ps3 is such a nice tale.

And let's not forget to give Kudos to the ones making it happen. Really great post there Hellmarauder.

Well, what I am looking for is that pvp game that ties all together. Siege, FFA, collision, tactis etc and still manage to make it fun.

Thats what in my opinion makes DF innovative. And they seem to focus alot on making combat usefull and not just a thing to do to get the next thing to advance to the endgame and curse over no more content crap..

A game that actually is fun to play and yet still gives you the feeling of doing something. Almost real life but here you actually can kill those annoying bastards around you but without (almost) consequences.

Hopefully they will not do a VG or any other crappy atempt that tries to suck up to much of other ideas but in the end blows...

This must be one of the most summarized threads about pvp I have ever read.

On one hand we have the "Hardcore" folks that want to kill all and everywhere and still get away with it, on the other hand. The proclaimer of being sheepis.. a.k.a carebear pvp..

The OP is in fact giving his version of what he thinks would be best for all aspects. NOT what you "Hardcore" dudes things is the most fun...

Everyone can and will have fun.. if they don't they will play something else that is better and more fun. In the end it comes down to making a quality (does that word even exist today?) game and you will earn $$ from it... don't be afraid. Just do it as Nike once said.

//Peace!

One of the greatest  games to ever hit the mmorpg market.. no freaking fuzz and hype and crap that just disapoints you.

You get in, you play for an hour or five, getting a tiny bit closer to 99 and having fun on the way.

I will keep being a member til the game or me dies.. 5$ is what I spend on... well... ehh.. toilet paper in a month? Or is that expensive toilet paper?

This is a pic thread, but perhaps you know that.. not sure of the cards that made the pics but they are nice. Mine is a 7950gtx something..

www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/126910

/peace out!

It is really sad to see it go.. reason why I stopped playing was that they shifted from pvp focus to stupid raid content.. wth. I blame wow.

If they would have made GZ bigger, faster, less obstacles and less mobs and with concrete goals I would still play it. Why can't developers learn that by implementing fun and rewarding pvp they basically have years to come out with content for the few raiders that like the koreanesce way of playing... (daoc)

Well, bummer it dies like this, innovative as it was..

Playing, been playing since day 1, my system runs it smooth, I got a nice guild, I'm having fun, waiting for merge, nice with some more PvP.

I think it's one of the most underestimated games in a long while.

If it do not die I will continue to play as long as it is fun for me.

Peace out!

One of the most underrated games on the market.. It's lovley to get away from all the Epics, raiders, four+ hours of tedious grinding and just get in, bash a couple of mobs, get a level, perhaps a nice item and alot of fun.

Love it. If I had two computers I would have two member accounts... atm I settle for one member and one none..

I think alot of people have realised that they lost there mmorpg virginity and now can't handle the "honeymoon" being over, so they bash on all the nextcoming boyfriends because they do not live up to that blurry, drunken, memory the first real penetration into a game gave them.

But that is perhpas a bit cynical of me... maybe it's all the trees that make folks not see the forest.

But then again, I'm quite the fanboi

Ok, from a VG playing guy, biased as I am.

1. Nice idea with the quests to try things out. Starting off as a orch or a goblin, you do get a really nice intro and a ride on a shadowhound that you can later aquire. I have not tried any of the other starting areas but if they are half as good as the Orch/goblin area, it's good. I have dabbled in crafting and diplomacy, and they are hard to get into.

2. Why? Who cares, diversity is not bad in an sandbox game. It is bad if you are going to do a 6vs6 CT_Def_Map fight and see who is  the best, but in a non-instanced big game, I like as many as possible.

3. Nooo... please, the faster we get rid of the old and mossy, dps, heal, tank, buff and random dude, booooring setup, the better! Get rid of classes and let us put points where ever we wan't.  Use ingame methods that makes it stupid (not impossible)  to do stuff like wield a two-hand greataxe and cast firebolt XI at XX lvl mob.

4. Nope, I wan't, as explained above, either one hell of alot of different classes or none and let us choose freely.

5. Yepp, alot more "life" in the characters would be nice. Atm, they have a certain, hmm, NPC:ish feeling over them.

6. Yepp, more combat animations would be nice.

7. Well, if you don't have the comp for it it the graphics probably is crappy, I got a nice mid+ computer, dual core, 7950xx, 2 gig ram, yatha yatha, and it' runs well, looks beautiful.

8. Agree, PvP AND rewards/losses for it is what makes a game last, not raid content.. *hides and let the raiding zerg mob with torches pass*. Arenas could if implemented nice bring something good.

9. That is not an option. Nothing is more griefier friendly then a place where you can not on the grounds of some stupid button, bash someone. PvP and PvE merge, no, no, not in a game not built for it. Perhpas they will pull something nice out of AoC. Time will tell.

10. Yepp, little cute butterflies and such would make it feel more alive.

Thats my opinion on Your opinions!

Not flamming but to flame a game for taking its time to develop is hypocritical.  You people are the same ones who will moan and cry about a game being rushed to release.

Can I ask why flame a game youve spent no money on ?  Why flame a game you havent played , no one has played.  How can you make a rational flame about a game you have not played ?  I'm just curious to the flammers out there how do you justify flamming a game youve spent nothing on ?  How can you flame a company for taking there time to release THERE GAME.  Its not your game, they owe us nothing until we start paying to play.

Word!

And the site have had some new things added I belive..

Darkfall webiste and forums just announced Beta sign ups will start on the 1st of June 2007.  Sign up now!........

Hehe, that is a joke that has been told since 2003.. I'll probably have an heartattack when/if the day comes when it's true. Had to check the website thou.. still searching but my guess is that it would be all over the place if it was true.
Thing with AI is that it serves no purpose in a mmorpg at the moment. Darkfall, the vaporware of the century, have a nice idea about AI.
df.warcry.com/scripts/news/view_news.phtml

For AI to work in a mmorpg it have to be built within a world where they can have  goals, otherwise it will be the same scripted (God, I hope that word will never be utterd in the world of games again) do X to get Y gameplay.

Are the people working code today stupid? Sorry for being blunt but it's a sad fact that the AI in S.T.A.L.K.E.R is top notch but still it lack the basics, last patch made NPC's not pop in your face.. wth is that? The developers need to get there focus back...

And I have to disagree about AI being mainly for single player games. It's all in the code. If you make a mmorpg with the intention of having AI that is not static there is nothing more complicated then doing it for a single player game.

Games need to evolve or else the gamers will find something else to do (hehe sports, socialasing, that kind of silly stuff).

I have not since Zelda, something, found a game worth the money I pay for it.

Kick some of the animators, motion captureres, graphics makers and replace them with people that knows about making games and not about implementing librarys with crap piling up.

Sorry if I'm off topic now.. hangover and slept to little..
I belive that levels are contraproductive when it comes to mmorpgs. It sets a "finish" in a game where there is supposed to not be any. The leveling becomes a path to something, and when you reach that something you get bored cause there is not anymore to do (thus the need for end-content).
It also separates the players from each other with an artificial level border.

The game itself should be imense enough to make you do things, explore, build, fight and whatnot.

Mmorpgs need a fundamental change and as someone else pointed out, that will not happen before some independent company makes a success with the new formula.

This new forumla imo needs to atleast include:

  • A more versatile tick (hard to get away from with the way internet is constructed) combat system
  • Perma decaying items (really slow decay, but eventually they will be ultimately destroyed)
  • Free PvP (in a non-level based game where gear is important but not equal to win)
  • Social knots (DAOC, for example, did it great with guild colors and cloaks)
  • alot more that I can't think of atm (need more coffee first)
and the standard of the basic game mechanics such as UI, graphics and other related things, need to atleast reach WoW status in all aspects.

That is one thing WoW has done, it have set a new minimum that later mmorpgs need to reach in almost every part of the game so that players don't feel they downgrade there experience.

I'm hoping that DF will bring me, in a decade or two, some of this but any other game that does will do
Nice! Keep em coming, please healz4u!!

And as I have mainly been spending time on Qualia I thought I show a picture of some of the other continents scenery.

Here is another one. No acctual thoughts  behind it...

www.imagehoop.com/view_image/96c55352/vgclient 2007-05-01 22-02-22-09.jpg

Hi!

My two kronor.

I like the game. It is probably one of the last games in the genre I will play, and it is a good  game in that genre.

It lacks alot in inovation, but does, as did wow, add and compile alot of other games best into a fairly but not super game.

The thing is, for a game of today to live up to some of peoples expectations they must not do what WoW already done. It can never be the next game of this day with old gameplay and ideas because WoW have already summed up alot of the best from games of yesterday (eq, uo, daoc, lineage etc).

Vg adds only freedom (limited but still miles from wow) to the wow-mix and ofcourse the folks waiting for the next wow gets disapointed.

Hope my point is somewhat understandable... I just get fed up with all the moaning about games post-wow not giving what wow gave.. That game will come, but it will not be a improved wow...

(sorry for the strange row breaks.. at work and it's not my work to work it out, ehh.. )

Here are some more:

First a pic of the port of Martok
