P.S Also everyone rushes through dungeons at later levels so much so that you end up running at full speed just to keep up with them when somethimes I just want to stop and take a breath and look at the scenery!

I played back with the game was first released.  I enjoyed it, and would have played it for a while longer no doubt, if it wasn't for the repeatitive nature of the dungeons.  This wasn't even so bad, as the combat and group play was fun, but when it got rushed, and everyone raced through the dungeon, I felt like I was missing something.

Sometimes, I even miss the old days of Everquest when everyone actually was required to sit and rest to get their health back in order to fight again.  It was a time when the social/roleplaying aspect really came into play.  Now, in most games, its full speed ahead killing things, questing, etc.  Especially if there is something that can slow the game down everyonce in a while, I would be happy to try DDO once again.

I need your E-mail address and I will send you the invite.  It you'd rather not post it, feel free to send it to my E-mail - prd30@optonline.net

Sure I will send it right away

Is Marchutan a North American East Server?  I cannot find any info on where the servers are located, other than East and West (it doesn't specify country)

It's fun for now.  I would love for this many players to be subscribed to WAR instead, but in a PvP game, I guess I've got to go where the players are.

I'll split time between Aion and Fallen Earth until Star Wars The Old Republic comes out, or possibly something better (Secret World?)

I got back into the game, and I still enjoy the quests, PQ's and RvR (when there are other players around).  Unfortunately for me, there just aren't enough players for it to be worthwhile.  I want to be able to enjoy all aspects of the game, and with limited population, I don't think RvR is going to be much fun.  I will keep checking back, though.  I really do like the game.  It just needs more people to play

Great!  I'll be starting on that one.  Can't wait.  I hope to pleasantly surprised by Aion.  Most other mmos I've played lately just haven't been much fun.

Once I play for a while I'll add my thoughts about the game here.

Dunno, I never perceived it as grind.

I play the game to have fun and Renown happens. I don't play the game to get renown.

I never could understand people who play mmos to "achieve" something. I play games to have fun, and if that entails occasional achievements then so be it, but I always keep my priorities straight. RL is for achievements, games are for fun.

And besides I don't think anyone is "supposed" to reach RR80. In fact before the release devs stated on numerous occasions that  RR80 is basically unachievable in any practical sense and that when several players somehow do manage to reach it the RR cap will be increased. Renown should be like money - you can always get more and you're never supposed to reach the "cap". The cheat described above throws a cog into this system and that's not cool at all.

I agree.  I have the same mindset when I log in to play a mmo.  I have a feeling that among the many other reasons why WAR has suffered, this "playing to achieve" instead of playing for fun is one of the things that  may have added to the games negative reputation lately.

What is Origins, please?  I am just looking to get back into DAoC and was wondering about server population and finding groups.  I see from a few posts here that Ywain seems to have decent numbers.  DAoC 2 would be nice (as long as it doesnt turn out like AC2)

Thanks for that very nice review.  I have been reading up on Aion and I do want to try (I actually have the box sitting on my desk, unopened) but I am waiting for the Lag/Queue fixes and possibly a North American (EAST) server to open before I start.

I just get the feeling that if we all carry on this way no one will ever build a decent MMO (other than the Elephant over there in the corner).

WAR has had issues, few classes that got dropped, few that really didn't work, problems with end game, rather a lot of lag (server side) at with big fights/AOE spells. However, over the year a lot of this has been resolved, and I don't think further work before launch would have improved it (it needed players to really thrash it and break it). As for the slow gameplay and bug complaints. I've had about 5 crashes to desktop in a year, the odd disconnect, and two server/zone crashes. A decent PC and internet connection solves alot of problems.

Could it be better? Of course it could. Does it have long term appeal? Well it held my and missus attention more than either WoW or LoTR, but less so than DAoC. However, a few more classes/races, a bit of PvE/dungeons that is fun and doable - and would say the average MMO player would be well pleased.

Ultimately, we all have vestige interest in MMOs being successful, otherwise they will not make any more. Therefore our criticism should be balance, fair, and constructive. And we need to bear in mind that a good MMO grows and develops and that to expect a nwe AAA title with everthing that an established one has is a dream that will not be a commerical or practical reality.

But that won't stop the "hater" posting their rants, unfortunately :(

I hope that everyone that visits this forum reads this post.  Very well done, and I totally agree.  The problem is that with so many mmos, and more coming, players have a short attention span and if things are not polished or done to their satisfaction at or near launch, they may move onto another new one, or fall back to and old one.

I admit to being one of these players, but games like Warhammer Online, which I love (although no longer play), will be watched over time, and tried again on and off to gauge the changes, community, etc. and if I am having fun, I subscribe.

There has been only one mmo that has held my attention to it for years straight, and I don't credit the game, I simply believe that there were few other options at the time (the game was the original Everquest)

A a former player, I can say that the game was fantastic back when I played, at launch and for a few years after.  I really wanted Warhammer Online to be as good or better, but with only two factions (Order & Destruction), the realm pvp is just not as good as DAoC.  I also appreciate the difficulty of DAoC.  It felt like Everquest, but with meaningful realm vs. realm struggle and a great world that seemed alive.  I will be doing the trial again soon, and possibly re-subbing.

I enjoyed Warhammer Online.  There are many fun things about it, but in the end I quit playing, more to try other mmos rather than because of its faults.  I think I will re-sub to DAoC.  I loved that mmo.  Anyone still play?

I really enjoyed this mmorpg as well, and unfortunately I quit for the same reason (not being able to find groups in a reasonable amount of time).  I love grouping, but perhaps a tools similar to Warhammer Online's for finding/joining groups would help this game.

I came back for the vet re-eval, but I'm not staying. I just don't like the low fantasy setting. Otherwise I think it's a fine game, and I hope it keeps improving for the folks who enjoy playing it.

I hate to see any MMORPG close down (execpt SWG) because there is always some who like it. It's odd how so many people want to see a game shut down simply because it didn't live up to their expectations. SWG is differnet, SOE changed the entire mechanics of the game. SOE should have to eat crow for betraying it's subscribers, as a warning to other developers.

I totally agree.  Just thinking about SWG makes me grind my teeth.  I loved the game as it was released.  I can't believe SOE got away with the things they did (but I absolutely love EQ2, so I forgive, but I'll never forget).

As for AoC, I am re-evaluating and enjoying it as much as I did at launch.  The reason I left was because of Warhammer Online, not because I was frustrated with AoC.  I don't know yet if I'll stay.  Depends alot on community and it appears that my server has a good one so far.

I'm likely in the minority here, but when a mmorpg that really is interesting to me is coming that will require a better PC than I currently use, I am starting to look for a better PC.  F2P MMO, while some may very well be fun to play, are not for me.

To best explain how I fee about F2P mmos vs. Subscription based mmos . . . I love baseball.  I live in NY and the LI Ducks play practically in my back yard, but I don't step foot inside that ballpark even though its only a few dollars for a ticket.  I am going to Yankee Stadium.

My 3 recruitments have been sent for now.  I'll post again when I have some more.  Thanks

Yes, I spelled my own guild name wrong in the title, but I am bumping anyway

<Bump> again, cuz I don't like page 3

<Bump> for the Dark Elf
