Most mmorpg gamers don't care about the game. It's an addiction. All they want it to progress and complete as much as they can without really experiancing the world / game. Mmorpgs are not created to have enjoyable gameplay or complexe challenges, they are created simply to get you addicted. If mmos really had good gameplay there wouldn't be levels. |

Why no quality World War 2 MMORPG?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 5/16/08 9:54:52 PM
A sci fi / future mmofps would make alot more sense. Like alot of people say we don't need more ww2 games. A sci game would probally solve alot of problems mmos have without killing the 'immersion'. A mmofps where you could hope into a missle in a spaceship, fly at the speed of light onto the battlefield. Run on foot for a bit, take over some territory, find a plane, fly up into space and go to a different planet. |

Alot of you, just like game developers and investors can't see the big picture. Online virtual worlds will be a multi trillion dollar industry and what ever country grapes it first will be able to create a huge semi monopoly just like microsoft or hollywood. When we talk about innovation we don't mean (i hope) improved combat systems or better lvling. We have more youth today on the internet then those watching tv. In 20 years time these people will grow up and a huge market will open up for enterainment, documenties and news that people will want to see in a interactive way. Instead of watching a documentary on fish we will be able to explore the sea from our computer. We will be able to walk around ancient rome. What we need to see is investment in softwear and hardwear so developers can easily create. Developers need equipment to quickly scan a room, person or object and take a picture of it so everything from the model to the textures automatically become virtual. We need programmes that can quickly work out how an object should react. We need investment in better servers and internet connections.

The main problem i see with game design is the lack of leadership and focus. If a game developer doesn't understand the wants and wishes of gamers he must be a f'ing idiot. Vanguard had two major problems in game design. They didn't add enough visable content so the only people who could be bothered to play were extreme group players who helped each other find the content and explorer type players who could be bothered to grind run the continents. The other blatent problem with vanguard was the performance. I don't believe the fault lies with the a community but it's the people who decide what opinion counts. Game developers can find the 'majority" interested in any opinion they want. If they don't agree with the gamers on there own forums they will look at other forums and say it must be the majorities view. Developers have to listen to there own opinion. Most gamers don't even have a clue what makes a good game so listening to them is dangerous. |

D/L'd LOTRO 4.5gig trial in 1.5 hours, D/L'd Vanguard in.....lol?
General Discussion « Vanguard: Saga of Heroes 1/07/08 12:43:57 PM
I've never played lotro but i've been playing vg casually from beta and there is a vaste amount of content. So many dungeons, towns, cities, outposts, islands, etc. I think the problem gamers face is in vg it isn't layed out very well so many people get bored without ever exploring. You have to be an explorer to play vg, most people just want to grind. |

It looks ok to me. I don't like the pink walls but the gameplay looks fine. It looks more exciting than all those mmorpgs. Are you guys just stagging it off because you think its cool? How about you ignore what you don't like. |

Yes, STO is in BIG trouble
Perpetual Studios Version Discussion « Star Trek Online 12/15/07 8:38:52 PM
My view of sto is that it's a doomed project because it's a rpg. Mabye they can gain a few hundred thousand from the ip but as a rpg. Rpgs havn't changed since there creation many years ago, the only new thing is the mmo stuff which once someone has played for a few years, they will never want to play again. Sto has to use the sto lore. My view is that the game should go down the root of the story based game, With a fps view and auto aim. How i would make the game. Federation Training: First thing the player see which will allow them to get use to the game. Move to station or ship: Once the player does there training they should have a choice of places to go depending on rank and role. Here players would get involved in story based missions set in an instanced enviroment. These could be done solo, duo or grouped and would play out like a story in a typical first perosn shooter (doom, star wars republic commandos) but with more to do with the story than the shooting action. Different stories would be based on star trek episodes so the devs don't have to think too hard. Battlefields : players would be able to go the differnet bf in the galaxy playing as federation or an alien race. Great for the fps acton players. Non instanced areas: starships, planets and cities would give players somewhere to meet and battle to allow for pointless grinding and trading. If i was a creative director and had a decent team behind me im sure we would have created most of my game by now. |

The reason people hate the grind is that they rewally don't have much of a choice of gameplay. Basically thre all hit button 100 times and ding. This is the same with eve and all mmorpgs. The answer is to add enough gameplay systems so the player will find it hard to not have something they enjoy doing. Ideas First person shooter - some love this, add it with pvp and people will play for years. Bf for example. Allow players to compete for territory that can be used to create business, residentual and industrial buildings. Allow people to create all sorts of weapons, tanks, planes. Cities and economic - Turn trade into something far mor complicated and impoved. Allow people to create and design shops and sell to npcs. Player could build up hude cities, players could create illigal businesses, players could get into politics, a whole strategy style game could create something new never before seen in a mmo. Gangs - Players could get involved in a strategy game to win over drugs / protection money. Rob banks / shops etc Heists - players could create classes to proform heist. We could gain skills in lock picking, explosives, how to con,. etc Adventure - allow players to explore cave, tombs, conspiracies, etc. Have a large amount of lore that is interesting and allows the player to feel involved. Lore - It always feels disconnected in mmorpgs. Add cutscenes, allow the player to be a part of the lore buy forcing him into the role like alot of single player games do. A written story added to quests logs isn't that exciting, there is no need to care about the lore in modern mmorpgs. More forms of gameplay is the answer to an exciting way to advance. Not picking skills or forms of xp.

I think alot of the problem is alot of use don't want to play a mmo for the point of just advancing. We want it to be fun and engaging. If you want a new mmo with a different form of advancement you will still end up with people moaning about advancment. |

I'm pretty sure i completely agree with you on this netzoko. It really bugs me when people use the poor support aguement to complain about a game, specially when the support is no different than any other company. I don't understand the crap people say about soe's support. It's always been far better than wow's, eves, ubisofts or ea's.
A whole year of playing eq2 i needed a gm about twice. What do you guys do to need gm's all the time? |

CCP are the only developers who understand how to create a mmorpg...
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 9/27/07 1:51:52 AM
I agree that eve is a good virtual world but for gameplay it's shit imo. I personally hate the skill syste, because the player has nothing to do with character advancement. You just pick a skill wait a month and now you're stronger. I like eves economy and pvp enviroment but i only wish the combat was player skill based. I've has enough of rpg combat and would like something new, that's why i give all mmorpgs 1 out of 10. |

In your opinion which MMO has the best GAMEPLAY ?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 9/02/07 6:06:30 AM
Eq2 is the mmo i've played the most and if i didn't play it i would probally have more resolve to play vanguard. Vanguard is the rpg for me but i just can't sit down and play rpgs anymore. Once i find a good player skilll based mmo it will be my favorate, until then i would have to say all mmorpgs are equal because i have no desire to play any of them. |

Horrible Communitys --> Horrible MMO's
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 8/26/07 5:06:17 PM
Maybe the community has noever change. The reason you found alot of friendly people in uo is problaly because you played it alot and got to know alot of other players well. It's the same with all mmo's. I think the problem now is that people have a delusion that everyone is elitist. There are alot of nice people out there that enjoy group, the problem is people can't be bothered with forming groups and more. |

Just built my new pc. Any games I should try?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 8/26/07 2:30:25 PM
Blah, he can play on high. He just has to make sure his ram is good and that his hd is good. The only real problem with vg is it crashes alot. With good ram and a fast hard drive you will be fine. The main problem alot of people with a geforce 8800 gtx have with vg is there ram is faulty or there hard drive is slow.
I agree vanguard has alot of problems for alot of people but your statement bono and shi is false. |

I disagree. As you called me ignorant i will explain how i'm not and you are... First. i'm 22, a firefighter and have sh*t all money and no, i'm not smed. Second, You're living in a fairy tale. There will always be good players (who win) and bad players (who lose). This is the same with alot of things. Ie education, some people shouldn't go to uni as they lack the skill for it. It would be great if we could send every person to uni but it isn't reasonable, we just end up with large amounts of debt which has to go somewhere. Also before you say it... i never went to uni. This is more of a UK problem and might not be the same as your education system. You are also 'ignorant' to the fact that games can be created so that farmers can't harm other players gameplay. ie instancing. And even if they stopped every offline money farmer we would still have legit farmers who would annoy you with there winning anyway. Also you will never escape shit in the world if you don't let go and stop moaning about how life is so shit. If you don't want to lose to other people, stop trying to win. There will always be items you can't afford, raids you can't win or pvp players who are more expericanced / skilled. Frankly i feel you are disillusioned and unreasonable.

I don't understand your agrument. Mmo's have never been about skills or good gameplay. It's all about time. There are rich people playing now that gain a huge advantage over you because they don't have to work. Most mmos already have blackmarket sellers anyway. You might aswell give up playing mmos or change your stance. |

Amazing, Soe creates a free to play game and all you guys do is bitch about them. I tihnk you guys are just a tiny bit ungreatful. Also so what if you can buy items. Most gamers don't care, it's only the hardcore few and if you don't like it don't play the game.
I for one am fed up of this childish, unfounded, unrealistic and ungreatful attituded a few sad little gamers have with soe. |
