UO and EQ1, had no expectations and simply enjoyed every minute of it right from the biggining, if anything these launches were perfect (cuz i didnt know any better), followed by poor execution of expansions. Now my simpleness in the genre set to itself i'd have to proclaim the greatest launch i've been apart of was Vanguard, obviously any game that kills of 200k ppl in a month is that of legend...... ( why's it even on the list lol) Joking finished its got to be LoTRO, though the game was far to carebear for a title that involves half war..... and its basically the biggest cookie cutter questfest ever made, everything did work on launch as intended, bugs were minimal, CS was decent, billing and sign up was great, patching was decent as well. Canceling was a breeze. It's not a coincidence though, that the simplest and most bland game on the market (with the worst diversity of classes ever made) would have the cleanest launch. |

haven't played eq in forever but i'd got Shaman/Enchanter as your secondaries, great buffs, and the enchanter could CC stuff for you (dont know if they've changed them though lol) or cleric/enchanter. Last time i tried to pick up eq was about a year ago, the biggest problem of all the EQ1 statements for your answers is about the loot being worthy, thing is, untill you catch up with everyone else ( max lvl whatever ti is now ) im afraid most of eq's boss loot up tell then will now be worthless. Not to mention items that were once legendary in it old world are now almost completely useless, not 100% sure but i believe replaced by some of the newer expansions having mostly soulbound style of loot through quests and what have you. However you'll have 100's of empty zones to explore and hunt nameds that's for sure, and 2 people 2 boxing will allow you to pretty darn well at seeing most of it, I'd def go back and try eq1 if i had a 4 person grp to roll through together with, i envy, should be a blast edit- Oh and for your 2 mains, less you want to be the same class for roleplay reasons, why not go 1 Mage, 1 Necro as pet classes. Plus necros are just so totally awesome in everquest, least they were when i played knew a few necros who could solo things i'd see whole grps wipe on. gah just thinking about it makes me want to play an eq1 necro or enchanter lol too bad its just to damn empty of a world to solo up on if your totally fine playing with just your wife pretty much the whole game, dont have goals on levels or to catch anyone, but fully enjoy the world through exploration, hunting and just downright enjoing yourself, i'd say with 4 chars you could get more hours fun outa eq1 then any other game on the market atm. Classes are still some of the best every made. |

Also you don't have to have a kill quest for killing mobs to count, if you kil10 squigs outside before ever going into town, and find a guy that wants you to kill squigs, he won't give you the quest, but rather just give you a reward for the work you have already done. Very nice for the pre-quest kills counting, good idea by them. |

Or does the game cut your legs off by making questing a need for gear or what have you to stay competitive in pvp? |

Skill points, that are increased by performing the skill that you do is imo the best way.... however skillbased games are dead or dying so i dont expect this. Alternative form's of level raising, is to increase such exp gained by boss' of dungeons that are being crawled, through forms of loot perhaps, gaining a piece of loot of that rare mob and or the boss mob or even random drop that someone in town can use to form an item for you and give you experience? These are basically quests that arent the servant style. Epic quests and or Heritage/destiny whatever you want to call them are great, keep them in. Can give more exp for xploring places, like a hidden cave at teh cove or undwater dungeon, give more places that are explore xp as well as increasing it. Experience tomes, and what have you that you can find in the world, or in hidden places, or throughout a dungeon *these can even work on the whole group* These to me, in my own opinion, seem like fresher ways to cut down on the "grind feeling" speed up exp for the casual players, and wouldnt make you feel like the new city slave every town you reach. Also wouldnt feel like your following the yellow brick road ( or yellow ! ? road in this case ), which allows you to create your own story within the game world. While the epic/storyline quests are still there so your getting the story of the game as well. |

One question, is this games progression going to be another QUESTFEST? You know, the only good way to level is kill 20 crocs, paperboy, servant shit again? ( i mean are we servants or epic heroes, brave warriors or mass murderors?) 5 years is enough of this crap, this games been in developement since WoW release so my guess is, yup, another questfest. maybe in the first 10-15 lvls or so while you learn your class, ok, then maybe your a servant, but after that gimme a break. |

Sadly "endgame" is just that to me except for pvp. It's the end of the game. Ever since eq1 raiding came out endgame has been the part to hold players into a game for a long time. Pre-this route the game itself all the way from start to finish is what kept ppl playing, questfests will never do this. I'll keep a close eye on seige pvp and where that goes, but honestly in a full instanced game it doesnt sound dynamic now, just another game in a game (daoc/wow battleground) with no other meaning than to win that little game then go on with teh "mmo world" So the next time someone rushes to endgame and asks "wheres the content" dont blame them, for the last 4 years they've been tought its a boring questfest tell endgame then the real game begins, its a sad state of affairs that will be re-hashed until the first one to do it makes good money. |

great replies, i know exactly how ya feel man, quest grinding as the progressional way of gaining levels has gotten even worse than grp grinding in my own opinion of course. However i can survive and grinding if the pvp is there to play with. So im afraid i must ask a couple more questions to elaborate on. Does anyone know yet if seige is battleground style (wow/daoc causal game within a game, personal rewards only) or is it open warfare in the world (whether that be in a specific zone or what have you)? Also whats the community looking like for your server pvp, i.e. is it anti-pk vs pk style like teh old games? complete indifference? kill or be killed? the only pvp is high lvls ganking low lvls? crazy battles of grp vs grp and or guild vs guild/ race vs race? all of the above? some new form i've never experienced? you get my drift, gimme a your idea of what its really like on there from your own experience or playtime. edit- dont take the flamebait from the guy above me plz, keep the good answers coming like the first 3 |

instances i can deal with, powerful rig as well. fanboi loving it haters hating it.... same as every game i've ever seen. "OMG BEST MMO EVAR" is always thrown out rampant by people in the first month. so lets not have any of that in this thread. simple questions, is the leveling curve on this game steep? or are ppl lvl 80 and bored already (if hardcores are already max then even me wont get enough time outa it) Is this another cookie cutter questfest thats been released since eq2/wow era. why is pvp so ups and downs with ppl all over the internet, some say its worst ever, some say its awesome? please if you elaborate on this question tell me former games pvp you have enjoyed or hated so i can get at least a little picture of what type of pvper's are digging it. PvP means more than anything to me soo hook up the info ppl |

the day i heard no pvp was in Lotr i stopped following it. I mean c'mon- games aren't developed enough to make huge dynamic battles against giant cities. Only way to do this would be massive pvp battles..... Without that, Lotr becomes a giant story based on a walking trip..... but actually the game sucks because the classes all suck, who'd want to pvp in a game with such a poor combat system and abilities anyway |

are there none of these games anymore? with all the crappy games being played today you'd think at least one would be like this. Kinda looking for a new one, UO i've played twice for two long periods of time so i'd like something new. Anyone know one either on the horizon or out now? Also why are no F2p games skill based, or am i wrong here as well? Info please! |

Originally posted by buzzzx i disagree with people on statements like this. Started mmo's with UO and had the same magic playing eq1. Daoc RvR and bg's gave me the same magic, so no, this isn't true. Most of us want another original game, not a EQ1 clone with cartoony graphics and ezmode quest grinds. |

Disgusting how almost half these posts are people admitting to buying gold........ Here i've always wondered why i get 500 tells a day spamming in every game, Absolute scum to say the least. 1. Yes, i duped the stat potions in Diablo 1 2. does a d/l'd UI count? if not then no, and only used a custom UI for WoW 3. No, absolutely crazy, i'd pay to play a game then pay others to play for me in any way......... why would i be playing? |

Only WoW and LotRO seem to have any good sort of populations for first timers coming into a game. These of course are practically solo games, and boring quest grinders. Every group oriented game is either dead or dying, can't understand why people hate grouping in online games. Used to think that the RP in MMORPG was fading, i've come to think the MM part is fading as well. Four more years of WoW clones and this site will have to rename itself to OG.com If you know a group oriented game that is still populated enough at low levels to play with OTHERS then please inform me, otherwise maybe i'll have to find a new genre. I could stand WoW when I could level off of battleground marks (groups fighting grps in co-op style play felt more like an FPS than MMORPG), but these quest to pvp and or quest to raid games just arent for me. The low populations in all the group oriented games makes me sure that no new games would dare cross the quest-grind-solo style and less will be released as time follows. A niche developer maybe, but we all see how slowly and poorly they perform, therefore turning great game ideas into poor performance of game play. I was told to try Lineage 2, but half the damn posts here and on other forums are complaining about bots/cheaters/ only pvp at top lvl (besides 70+'s gainking lowbies) how can i honestly give a game so flawed in it's playerbase a real shot? even if the PvP and non-quest grind sounds good? |

Is the pvp active (will i have to spend all day looking for people to pvp) Do i have to buy both games to PvP? is there a free trial to experience the full game (14 day all access style) (not trial isles or the like) what's the most overheard reason as to why people eventually quit the game Looks like a real fun game, always was hesitant to break from my fantasy MMO addiction, but actually looking for something new now, any answers would help. Thanks!
