I wouldn't say I hate it, I played it for ~3-4 month and had a lot of fun leveling my character to 60 during that time, but after the introduction of Battlegrounds (wth, I wanted open world PvP that's actually meaningful, like taking over towns or even zones, not some retarded CtF in some confined instance that belongs into a FPS. A total immersion breaker for me.) and the prospect of running the same instances over and over and over and over as the only activities (don't really care much about alts) I left it and I haven't looked back. I'm actually not even sure why I visited this forum hehe. |

The sad fact is that the quality of a show isn't all that relevant wheather it stays or gets canned. There are enough abysmal shows (I.e. Andromeda) running for many season to proove that fact. Of course this is all subjective (I heard there are even people who like Andromeda can you believe that?!). Anyway, Firefly certainly had some early episodes with uninspired writing, but the Ideas behind the show were great (again IMO). |

Well well.. I sure hope one will be able to play a Reaver there! I really want to board ships, r**e the crew to death, eat their flesh and sew their skin to my clothing. |

Damn you for making me vote for WoW in the PvE category! *shakes fist*
Seriously, I think EvE is an amazing game, but PvE?! I wish people would stop voting blindly for "their" game. WoWs PvE isn't the best PvE game by a longshot (IMO) but certainly better than EvE.. |

It's called evolution, of course the developers will look at other game's qualities and see how they can incorporate them into their own products. And if wow got only one thing right it is the GUI (IMO anyway). I might not agree with many of the plugins that were available in the short time I was playing it, that's another matter, but it's basic were good. Besides it's not like Blizzard invented the wheel there, they took what other games did and improved on it as well. |

In my experiance with DAoC (wich admittedly dates a few years back) there'll always be people crazy enough to set their clocks to 4am if it increases their chance at capturing a relic or - in the case of WAR - sacking an enemy town. If servers for US and EU are shared at least there'd be someone there to defend, as servers would be busy pretty much around the clock. Or maybe only my server was that way.. |

Hmm.. with that much emphasis on PvP combat it sounds like a niche game, and I had to chuckle when I read the part about people requiring "skill" in this game. Ah, the ever important "skill" ! Other games play themselves or people just press random buttons to suceed I guess.
Btw: The commentary link in the full artice links to the main page, that might be why you don't get more comments. |

Well, umm... maybe you should have a look at Dark and Light, they're trying to do what you want.. 100k people for one server. The game totaly sucks IMO, but that doesn't necessarily have to do with their concept but with their bad combat system, graphics etc. |

General rule of thumb for PvP centric games: It's always the "other side" that has more immature players, griefers, idiots, zerglings, no-skill losers, whatever... you name it, the "other side" has got plenty of them... |

That might well be, but 80% is the number of individual subscribers. Most of those had 2-X accounts active before the NGE, I would expect that a lot of those alt-accounts got cancelled. I wouldn't be surprised if the actual number of active accounts would be around or below 50% of pre NGE. Edit: Beaten to the reply by 2 people, d'oh! |

Seriously, you can't blame SOE for a bad game (NGE) and then - in the same paragraph - turn around and praise Lucas Arts for it's great games. None of them were actually developed by Lucas Arts. Battlefront = Pandemic Did they ever make a game by themselves? Far as I can tell they're only selling off licenses and then slap the Lucas Arts logo on the gamebox. So, either admit that Lucas Arts isn't as phantastic as you make them out to be, or give credit to the companies that actually developed the games you liked. ;) |

Yah, they probably just parked her in a position where she can't do much damage. Any marketing campaign would have to be approved by the director anyway, not the vice... some posters, adverts might pass her desk and she slaps the 'approved' on em and that was it. At least she's out of the decision making process when it comes to games now. |

Didn't really read your rant, but to answer your question: It's subjective. Yes, some people actually do like complexity, freedom of choice and (forced?) social interaction, others like kill/get treasure/repeat. What you perceive as better might be worse for the next person, it's as easy as that. |
