I meant behind schedule on Landmark already since it was this Winter.
Since no winter release and Alpha not until end of February IF you buy an expensive pre-order package?  Makes me wonder will Next even launch in 2014.

Armor with Bonus for a spcific playstyle and penalties for others (with boni and special attributes activated on complete sets) in conjuction with prestige titles..thats all what was promised AND officially announced, till to the sad day of classes we first time saw entering this DF:UW Beta...

That would be the sandbox way ...AV decided going WoW themepark ...

They promised so much which we knew would never make it in and why many of us tried to warn people.  Hopefully they sell the license to a competent dev company.

There are so many reasons why Darkfall has failed as a game in the West.

However, the main reason is:

Aventurine.

Their continued failure to:

  • communicate;
  • make the game interesting beyond the initial prowess gain;
  • communicate;
  • make the game interesting for anyone other than the most mindless, hardcore arena player;
  • communicate;
  • keep to any of the timetables they have set for themselves; and
  • did I mention communicate?,

has brought the Western playerbase to its knees.

Given that we know (from the drunken ravings of one of the core developer team) that Aventurine:

  • is also now facing insolvency,
  • has stopped paying all of its employees; and
  • needs another 15,000 (this figure could be wrong) people to buy the game in the West for them to be able to keep on running as a company,

the writing is very much on the wall for both the Western version of Darkfall and the company itself.

I did post warnings and other bits of history which have again come to light in this 2nd game.  Too bad - good concept but the company just cannot deliver.

Is it really this empty by this point? I remember it was relatively full when I was playing it upon UW launch, but I stopped due to the game not really being that different.

There's a few hotspots around, but in general the world is empty. The only way to find pvp is by raiding cities of the few active clans. Even some of the alliances known for zerging can barely field a full group during prime time now. I went to a major siege the other night and it was actually playable. Not because the client performance issues have been fixed, but because the numbers have fallen from hundreds on each side to dozens.

What excellent feedback are you referring to exactly?

If it's ever implemented, its going to be DF2010 all over again or all the DFUW "content that's ready to go".  Pure fantasy!!!

Heck, we're still waiting on the stuff AV already promised was a priority 6 months ago.

"We're not going to ask you to sign a formal NDA, we'll trust you on your word that you will keep MVP forum conversations and information, as well as developer interactions confidential."

Tasos

So we have a secret forum, with secret content, with a secret bunch of members which are hand picked by AV. While AV sits idle on a backlog of "excellent ideas" submitted by the actual player base over the past year.

It's so absurd, I can't stop laughing! LOL

The members are not going to be secret and there will probably be a weekly summary of the discussions on the forums.  I agree with you that there are a lot of good ideas floating around and the issue is the turnaround time for implementation.

Your naivety after all these years is astounding.  At this point the members are secret although many people have requested the list be made public they have not done so and have not made ANY statement that they would do so.  As far as weekly summaries go where the hell have you been?  They can't even give monthly updates let alone an additional weekly forum update.

The mvp forums are a joke plain and simple, the ONLY person I know who has for sure been admitted has NEVER even played the released DFUW he quit back in beta due to the state of the game and is a giant forum troll.  (I know this for sure, he is a guildy)

I have zero confidence in the mvp forums and so should you.

+1 - The game concept is great but the investors need to sell it to recoup any chance of money and get a competent dev team to ever make it work.  1 year later after 29 dungeons were ready - how many are in-game?

I played the game a few days on a friends account. The population is so low. That's a killer for me. If there's hardly anyone playing an mmo, there's no reason for me to bother with it, and I can usually get over graphics and/or  a terrible UI, but this game is pitiful. Needless to say, I didn't and wouldn't buy it.

Many of us bought it hoping AV had learned their lesson in DFO. We thought they would interact with the community more and patch in new stuff frequently. They even claimed to have content ready to patch in rapidly. That didn't happen, and people grew tired of broken promises. Many of them were more loyal than AV deserved. Eventually they started giving up hope and left the game. Now the population is critically low, and that's driving even more players away. I guess you could call it dominoes falling or a failure cascade.

This is completely spot on!  Great summary.

Don't bother looking for honest answers at the official forums. Because all you'll get is people telling you the game is great, loads of fun, big population etc, when that is very far from the truth.

What an absolute joke. That game is SO MUCH BETTER than the community makes it out to be. People complain about AV's communication or other trivial things that don't matter when it comes to how you're going to experience the game. The official forums are full of people who had their feelings hurt by a videogame company and can't judge the game based on what it actually is.

Simply put, there are no other games offering anything close to what Darkfall is. And yet you guys just sh*t all over it for some reason.

Like I said above, what is trivial to you is not trivial to the next person. I made this thread to give fair warning to potential players. I'm sure those players are smart enough to make their own decision taking into account all our opinions.

A drunken dev did a stream with a couple long term players saying they only had 20k subs and needed 35k (some believe he meant 2k and 3.5k respectively because the server can only hold 10000 players) to break even. They owe people all around town and developers are not getting paid. An important thing to take note is that it was said that the coders/designers are inexperienced but they are awesome and the guy who wrote the network code is a genius...except that if that was true then he wouldn't be working for AV, he would be working for Blizzard or a real professional game company.

The game is a shell of an MMO. Take away the 1 thing that is unique to: full loot and theres not much left. Seiging is unplayable because of low frame rates.

They have been at this for 12 years and its the same thing over and over again. They can't keep using the 'indie' excuse. Theres a time they need to put the big boy panties on and face their playerbase like adults willing to listen, not children trying to bury their heads in the sand.

At the end of the day, everything's on AV's head. From cultivating and nourishing their community, promotion and marketing, to how they police the gameworld itself is completely whack. Right now their losing money and in panic mode. Much like a country is losing a war, instead of being upfront with their people, leaders will end up spinning the truth to make it seem like their winning. The only difference between how a fascist country might act and AV is that AV doesn't say anything...at all.

Take a step back and look at how much of this post is related to the game itself: almost none. The only thing you touched on was sieging, saying they were unplayable. They're not. I have videos of myself enjoying many sieges.

You guys are giving AV way too much shit about the "potential" of the game. I agree that the game could be WAY better than what it is, but that has nothing to do with how you should view the game that exists. There are a lot of things about the game that you will quite plainly not find in any other MMO currently. There's something to say for that.

Could you list these things that the game has that no other game has?

I didn't say much about DFUW because its absolute garbage. Have you even logged into DFUW and seen the interface!?

Last November - 1 whole year ago they stated was it 28 or so dungeons were completed and ready to go.  And now 1 year later there are what - 3 or is it 4 or 5?  That is just one example of many with the problems this game suffers.  Again the game had tons of potential and simply was poor execution.

anyone who claims they are roaming for hours and not finding anyone is simply lying.

Atleast on the North America server.

The reason why there are so few positive responses on this forum is because the trolls are frankly wearing us down.

People who enjoy the game would rather spend their time playing it, than arguing with these no-lifers on a forum.

Do not know about hours but clanmate was doing a treasure map rode from wolflands to far SE human lands saw 2 people.....  Makes sense why people are saying to pick 1 sub continent and everyone bind there so you can find pvp a lot quicker.

Uther the Lightbringer all the way.

It's doing good.

Out of your own mouth not 2 weeks ago ...," They have 2k subs and need to get to at least 3.5k to be on mark."

Then why do they need to increase subs by 50% to just break even, as stated by Claus?  Most people wouldn't consider a business that is loosing money as " doing good" .

Also, AV is no longer in control of the company and I can't wait to see how that plays out.

Good catch there!!!

Balin - sorry man bit this is NOT a sandbox period and yes I know we are each entitled to our opinions.  Everything is pre-determined and half of it is broken or missing still.  Sorry but if you put a poll up on if this is a sandbox guaranteed no will be the overwhelming answer.  Now does it have potential to be a sandbox?  Hell it could be AWESOME but the devs just do not seem capable of turning this game remotely into what it could be.

It's doing good. It seems like the population picked up a little after the combat patch.

It's releasing in Asia this week, and after that, I expect a big patch to come into our game from what they tested in the Asian beta.

Ummmm - seems like you are the only one in this thread that claims the game is doing good.  Have you been there since launch?  Population is a fraction of what it is and NO the game is not doing fine.  That is why on the official forums there are posts such as "Can we all pick just 1 continent to all bind to and fight there" - because the population is so low you only need one sub continent to hold all actives.

Game is a good concept - just piss poor implementation a 2nd time in a row.....

I signed up for the beta after seeing the game at Gamescom 2 years ago. The only answers I ever got were more mails such as "watch the latest dev interview" and "check out the newest race"

So I assume the beta registration was just to create more hype.

If you haven't followed the game to even know that there have already been several closed betas done including a couple of minor stress tests having 30k+ people in limited regions, then i would say you don't deserve to be playing one.

They took a break from closed betas a couple of months ago to implement several major changes which they have done already and will resuming it in October as the devs have said several times.

This goes for the OP as well

Been watching this game and heard of the supposed stress tests yet me and a lot of guildmates have not even gotten into this...

You guys think claus is gonna fix anything? It's over. Now that DF UW is a class based game, they have to waste their time to balance everything and with the recent duelist school, it's worse then ever.

This - he is back on a 4 month contract and sorry there is way too much broken that can be fixed in 4 months.  They should either sell the game license or shut it down since Claus already stated they cannot pay the bills.

Had they added more sandbox type features instead of being pure PvP/Conquest, I would have stuck around and paid a sub.  The game has promise as something more than it currently is.  The model failed before, and it's failing now.  It simply does not have broad enough appeal in its design to hold many subscribers.

This if there was more MMO "fluff" and other things to do this would be huge I think.  But they still only have basically an open MMO world for arena-pvp.  They must put in a lot of other fluff or there is no hope of broader appeal.

Think he meant 2k current subscribers instead of 20k?  I mean if there just for arguement's sake 10k subscribers and each with an alt the whole damn world would be slam full of people everywhere...  I just do not see the 20k being right.

Per Lust:

Notes:

At 20, 000 subscriber now. Need to get to 35, 000.
Need 15,000 more subscribers because they are out of money and owe debts all over town.
With current subs, they are slowly dying, can't really pay their bills.

Think's game will keep running, and AV can get more money- But for the game to thrive, needs more players. Some developers aren't currently getting paid.

Plans to improve cities, give them more worth, and increase pvp.

1. Steam Keys, looking into.
2. Player models.
3. Prowess Reset.
4. Conquest improve cities.
5. Different fund raising/promotion methods.
6. Clause has an idea of arena's to set up wager duels, and allow people to bet.
7.

Clause talks about amazing network code, a genius behind it, needs to do more work.. but not getting paid.

Previous project manager left a mess.. Clause brought in to fix things.

Clause wants to hire the best, smartest players, and bring them into the company.

Question Asked, to Sendog:
What would keep your alliance subscribing?

A: Give a reason to go out in the world, not stare at bank. Enchanting, Mob Loot, anything but suiciding into the best players.

Clause thinks the interface is terrible.

Clause wants to:
Wants to create a new role... A support class that deploys turrets.

Wants more loot, like Diablo3 or Path of Exile.

Wants to add quests.

Repeatable Prowess Feats. Remove diminishing returns.

I was just reading the reactions on the official DF forums. This thread will end up being an interesting read, I'm sure.

And holy Shiite if they have that many subs.

I gotta ask, if they have how many subs?

Supposedly like 20k subs....  Dude was asking for more money, subs, spread the word to your friends....  LOL  Was hilarious and great comedy.

Per Claus himself:

"I'll probably regret this in the morning, and I may even get fired. Doesn't matter, it was fun and worth it no matter the outcome. If I do get fired, you can find me on my site, and I'll be looking to make some games.

I dare anyone to be this honest.

Get over it.

We have 3 dungeons, and they are each more awesome than the last.

For all we know 29 dungeons are done and ready, but AV doesn't want to make the world too big with 29 dungeons.

I'm still working on the 3 dungeons we got, and more will come out when we need them.

A few points:

1) 1 of the dungeons are better than the last and 2 are basically the same crap from DF1 with high respawn timers

2) AV does not want to make the world too big with 29 dungeons?  Last I saw you teleport into them so you can put the portals wherever you want and not make the world too big...  Especially with how cheap it is to teleport with the fast travel.  But yeah I AM SURE for all we know the 29 are done and ready.....- good one!

29 dungeons would be 29 more places to go, thus the world will be bigger, and people will be more spread out.

get a clue.

You just said there were "tons" of people on NA , doens't that normally imply excess?

Perhaps new content would = new players?

If you're saying the game population can't survive new content than the game is already doomed.  Also, I'd don't remember dungeons being excessively large given DFUW  landmass .

Spot on there.  Plus with all the fast travel and how easy it is to teleport all over the map it would hardly take any time to travel to the dungeons.

Lust - right now game is at an all time populaton low and yes new content is needed to have any hope of bringing people back.
