I just went and browsed the official Bungie Destiny forums and quickly remembered why I cancelled my Xbox Live sub years ago. Who would want to be confined to playing with that hot mess of a console community.

Don't you think that most people who have a console don't also have a PC?  I do and so do most others.  We don't morph from one type or person to another as we change systems - the community is the same by and large.

Same here.  Been a PC gamer for the last 20 years.  Right now I am enjoying the hell out of my PS4 a lot more than my PC!!

Just going to say I have been a PC gamer for 20 years or so.  Bought a PS4 and absolutely loving it and enjoying it more than the PC in the past year or 2 by far.  Right now PC gaming just flat out sucks and no relief in sight for a while still.

On the other hand with the PS4 I have played games for the first time such as The Last of Us, Counter Spy, etc. and had a friggin blast!!  I was not sold on Destiny but got it since I had some friends who were going to play and without a long, drawn out reply just simply going to say I am loving the game so far and having a ton of fun.  You can hop in quick and hp out quick if you do not have a lot of time and the game looks great.  I will be playing this for a while no doubt!!

Pay to Win is subjective and means different things to different players.

The simple facts are:

Labor Points are a core system in ArcheAge that control how much you can do:

  • the amount of things you can Craft
  • the amount of XP you can gain through crafting
  • the amount of Land you can own
  • the amount of loot you can gain (coin purses)

The current issue is that for a monthly subscriber 90% of available Labor points per day can only come through the Cash shop.

If you stay logged into the game for an entire day you character will accumulate about 2500 Labor points and can buy an additional 36000 through the cash shop.

So what does that mean ....

  • For cash you can craft almost 10x more than a regular subscriber in a single day.   You can corner the market on crafted goods and sell them at a lower price and still make a huge profit due to your 10X inventory.
  • For cash you can level your character to 50th level 10x faster than a regular subscriber through the use of your Labor points.
  • For cash you can reach the Highest tiers of Mastery in Crafting 10x faster than a regular subscriber
  • For cash you can lock down 10x the amount of land/real estate/property property compared to a regular.   This is especially concerning given the very limited amounts of area to build a House / Farm in the game world.
  • For cash you can open 10x more loot drops hoping for rare items drops / crystals.

Nobody knows exactly what the impact will be to the game due to the cash shop but we can safely say there will be an impact to regular subscribers since the Daily Max regen limit of 2500 usable Labor points doesn't apply to anyone that wants to pay more than $ 15 / month.

If you plan to compete against other players on something that use Labor points then you better have deep pockets.

Pretty much spot on.

Pretty much, lol

I think the person who actually worked with AV is definitely wrong on one thing...

- they simply cannot copy the smoothness of combat

The combat was actually left unchanged in terms of "smoothness" until recently

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sorry - but I do not see how combat was left unchanged when since day 1 it has been nowhere near as responsive and fluent as it was in DF1.

I got beta access, played a few hours, and had zero desire to continue or ever log back in.  I applaud anybody who makes it to 30 or beyond in this game for your ability to endure wading neck deep in dog poop.  Grats I guess.

Everything about the game is mediocre and/or boring and/or generic.  There is no point in this game existing.

The characters, skills, gear, everything are boring.  Questing is boring and typical with an arrow at your feet to show you where to go kill those 10 rats.  Snore.  The graphics are lackluster.  NPCs and dialogs are for children that like anime or something.  No clue, but it's all brutal.

On top of that it's Trion F2P, which is pure sewage, and which includes cash for gold pay 2 win (via whatever they're calling the patron tokens this time around (REX in Rift) where person buys token for cash and sells it in game for gold, and it boils down to cash for gold).

I can't remotely fathom why anybody is interested in this game - it's mediocre at best and surely one could do better with other recent crapfests like WildStar with pay 2 win cash for gold CREDD or ESO, or if you really want to live your anime dream and play a crappy MMO that isn't as crappy as this one, play FFXIV.

Have to agree here.  I got to like level 13 and yes I know you do not have to quest to still level up if you like farming and other stuff (but that is not that much fun)....  It was very painful doing the quest grind or just killing mobs to get to that level.  The game may be great for some but I keep hearing the argument that man the game gets great after level 30....

A good all around game should have you hooked at the beginning - not cause you to feel so much pain and then finally hit 30 and BAM it is fun....  Good luck Trion and hey it may work out for you; just not my cup of tea.

Not even closEST.

It's easily one the closest games to EvE.  Not to mention the pvp in Darkfall is 100x better.  Don't get me wrong.  EvE is a great game but I just think DF is much better.

when DF implements its alignment system (assuming it's good) and deepens crafting a lot, then, to me it will be as good as eve.its not there yet... eve is one hell of a game.

however, (and i was there!!) DF at age 1 and a half is way ahead of where eve was at age 1 and a half

LOL - this game is not even remotely close to or on par with Eve in so, so many regards.  They have come a long way BUT have many, many miles to go to make it a true, good MMO.  It is still missing tons of MMO fluff you typically find that will take it from being just a big arena pvp game right now that it is.  They might get there indeed, but it is still a ways off.

The recent patch has been named the Jesus patch...it really is a savior...game is amazing now.  I left and swore i'd never come back, but av has pulled through a gem now.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=As935_cH2Nw

Lol damn the nostalgia that was a bloody fun battle, but what exactly has changed since then that they are calling jesus patch?

Basically ability to mix and match your roles which is nothing new if you look at hard and clear.  The first game allowed you to be whatever the hell you wanted to be.  Granted it has made the game a lot better BUT still after all these years they have zero fluff you find in a typical MMO.  That is a must if they want retention; otherwise it is simply an arena PVP game in a big world.

Bring the added fluff AV then you will see people stick around.

Originally posted by Gdemami Why not replacing fans or GPU cooler? While I like new NVidias, AMD performance/cost is so much better currently.
I would not recommend buying an AMD/ATI card. The driver support is horrid, I had nothing but problems from them for years before I ugpraded to the 660. Ever since then I have not had a single driver crash, frame rate issues, or any other problems. Games are usually far more optimized for nVidia card as well.

I used to use exclusively AMD/ATI, and I have made the change over the years because of lackluster support and performance. I'm glad I did.

Here we go again. Every time I see this post, I wonder how much nVidia paid.

Agreed - I use both brands depending on what I can get the best bang for the buck and right now it is the 7950 I have that overclocks like a beast; BUT I have used Nvidia in the past.  Simple fact though is ATI drivers have been very stable for me lately and Nvidia is the ONLY one of the 2 who released a faulty driver that burned up my card and many other people's....

So I LOL at people still saying ATI drivers are so bad and yet they have never burnt up their own cards with such faulty drivers...

I honestly thought it was pretty clunky feeling with movement and all in the weekend I messed around with it.  It might improve but it just felt meh to me.  And now that tab target is an option - means you can still go aim to shoot but WILL be at a disadvantage.

I think there will be a lot more than a handful..

Just look at the Ultimates..

There are currently 12 Ultimates in the game, and each is useful and viable for different things.

Alot of healers for example, might choose Spirit Bond, but others would prefer Stoic Defense.

Will heavy melee builds pick Pulverize, or Heightened Reflexes, or maybe Static Field?

In a siege when you want AOE, are you gonna pick Salvo, or Blizzard, or Pall of Pandemonium?

There's tons of options, and they are each viable.

Oh agreed. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that, in practice, there will be many combinations that would be viable... in terms of what the game offers.

My post isn't a knock on the game. It's more a comment on the typical mindset of MMO gamers. Across the genre.

It's not a matter of "what the game offers". It's a matter of "how the players perceive what the game offers".

It's more a statement (albeit cynical) on how players, by and large, tend to want to reduce everything down to "the absolute best" - or at least what they currently consider the absolute best.

Basically, it goes like this...

Someone finds a particular build that seems to out-perform all other known builds at that time. Someone creates a wiki guide for it, it becomes "common knowledge and proven fact" that it's THEE BUILD to use, and those who don't are told - ironically - to "learn to play".

Then... one of those rare people who don't just fall in line aboard the sheep train do some experimentation for themselves, and find a new build that out-performs "THEE BUILD". They prove it to be true.

Someone writes a wiki guide and then that becomes "THEE BUILD", and those who don't use it are told to "learn to play"...

Until... one of those rare people who don't just fall in line...

And so on.. and so on.

Regardless of what game it is, or what kind of system it is... it's 100% a player thing. Many people just want to know two things:

1. What's the "best build", and..

2. Where they can find the guide for it

I guarantee you... The 'ultimates' thing will make absolutely no difference. Players will still reduce it down to a few that are considered "THEE BEST", depending on what playstyle they're going for... and then that's what most everyone else will fall in line with.

... until one of those rare people who don't just fall in line comes along...

Exactly spot on!

And no, this isn't what happened before. What happened before was you had access to ALL the skills in the game. There were no tradeoffs. In this, you can pick a maximum of 8 skills and 1 ultimate. It's completely different. Everytime I talk with people about what build they're gonna do, they all say something different. People are excited to be able to play a playstyle they want to play.

I hear what you are saying and maybe they will get it right.  But trust me once folks find a few builds that just dominate; those other people may be excited to play a playstyle they like but only for so long when they get tired of losing gear to the "best builds" and want to leave the Ford Pinto behind and follow the others to the new car that just blows it away.  Eventually they cave in and turn to the "best" builds out there and soon everyone else and so on.  Maybe AV will implement it in a way that prevents this - time will tell and best of luck to them.

Same here.

And when it comes down to it, there's probably only 5 that are actually viable.

+1 just like before in DF1.  A few people will find the few that are the best and then you will see everyone following suit.  I give them props for giving folks options BUT should have been in a long time ago.

So, who here at MMORPG is waiting for this patch before rejoining Darkfall?

Eh - I will see how it pans out BUT this was already in DF1 basically

I read this a couple of times today and i just need to point out that this statement is wrong.

In DF1 we didnt have such a system, where you had to chose which skills you wanna use for your build. In DF1 everyone could use everything.

If you are interested in how the new custom roles system in DFUW will work, pls take a look at this:

http://darkfallonline.com/news/darkfall-custom-roles

Mine is not wrong at all - recall The Destroyer and those roles released?  Again the beauty of DF1 is you also learn all skills and spec HOW you wanted.  That is all this will be in essence.

Anyhow since I have not played since June of last year they are not starting off well at all getting me back or others - as you try to go to their support page to have your characters restored and it says the webpage is not available - grrrrrr......

Badaboom - check your PM's please.

Did you try https://cs.darkfallonline.com/ ? Works for me at least.

Yeah my character is now restored - not idea why but a cable modem reset fixed it.  I will give them a fair shake at this custom roles and see how it is.

Eh - I will see how it pans out BUT this was already in DF1 basically and everyone used the same flavor of the month - and it was also done much better in DF1 as well so that is already a negative.  Sounds good on paper but we shall see how they implement it.  My guess is that it will be the same and you will be seeing everyone running around in the same armor/skill setups like before in DF1.

But hey maybe I will be wrong this time and this is THAT patch that really bring the population back.

Just wow......

You just wasted $150. Its a FREE game.... and at that an Asian game translated to this side of the ocean with a cash shop.

Once you try it out, then you coulda decided if it was worth your money.

$150 is the price for a pay to play game for 1 year or 3 AAA console games or who knows how many good PC steam games on sale, etc.

IDK why you guys have no patience, you are joining a beta, your progress will be wiped and you put down this much money lol. Then you have to start over and probably ruined the fun because you are playing in beta and have to repeat it all.

Theres so many free games to play while waiting on this game man.....

First off it's alpha. Second, the Alpha server is not being wiped - it's being converted into the public test server. Third, it's been a crapload of fun, and I will have a substantial amount of knowledge going into the live game. Fourth, depending on what's actually in the cash shop will determine if the $150 package was worth it. So far, I think it is, and haven't looked back since getting it. Fifth, most of those games suck. Even the P2P ones aren't really that entertaining to me, whereas this game has been a blast the entire time so far.

But really.. thanks for your insight!

+1 - really enjoying this game as there is SOOO much to do.
