But creme de la creme are racial skills for destroyers and battlecruisers!!! Cmon! Don't we have enough skills for few years and now we need more crappy skills??!! I never said something against Eve but this is most retarded expansion ever and all of this ass kissing players on chat channels are ridiculous. Sorry for my English, i'm so angry on my favorite game that i could crash my keyboard at this moment

agreed. I don't even play EvE anymore. The old eve was much better and more indepth/competative. They somewhat dumbed it down and made it easier for the little nerds. As a whole i wish they did more with incarna but they never will. I couldnt be bothered with eve online. The game sucks now. Was much better back in the day when the older hard core pvpers were around... now the game is full of narccistic emo-carebear kids. Most of the older players like myself left along time ago. Don't even get me started on dust either, that game is a pile of steaming dogshit.

Rift got huge

Anyway, good to see games evolving and getting away from the WOW clone model.

[mod edit] Rift follows the same formula that Warhammer online and WoW do. Most themeparks do.

I complained that i was still not able to access my 50$ a month private server, Stated that the game should have been advertised as beta cause its definitely not release quality software in its current state and that they needed to get their shit together... There are no vehicles, No strongholds, They are jacking up marketplace prices etc.... ON TOP OF ALL THAT, the server i paid for a "US Server" is actually being hosted in Europe... So they delete my topic... I posted it again. Deleted. And again Deleted... Oh and someone else also posted about this and i mentioned in their thread that their post was about to get deleted, and blammo the other guys thread got deleted, And i had my 1 day ban....

You currently cannot connect to private servers with 0 people on them it will sit for 2-4 minutes the timeout, over and over again...

Not to defend your server being down or anything but if you posted a topic over and over again on my forum that I deleted I would ban you to.

Again I'm not saying there is any excuse for your paid server being down that long just that posting like that is kind of annoying. Maybe your best bet is to just take your business elsewhere?

And that my friend is what i plan on doing, Yes i know i was probably asking for it by posting it over and over again, However we have been putting up with their crap for a month now.. They nerfed loot spawns sooo bad after we rented our server it was pointless to even look for loot (First two weeks of the server rental) then they buffed loot spawns, we had 1 good week of looting items then, they screw up and we couldn't access the server for almost a week now...

Yesterday they posted that the problem with server connections has been fixed despite the fact that lots of people have complained that they still cannot connect... They have not even acknowledged it, instead they delete the topics and are trying to sweep it under the carpet...

Edit: And i was one the few that had the "Its ok guys they will fix it" mindset, However it just never happens!!! The worst part about it is... They are raising cash shop prices and they still have not fixed the crashing client issues that are causing people to lose all kinds of items they have paid money for! Its absolutely ridiculous...

War Z is a piece of Garbage and hopefully you learned your lesson unlike what a lot of fanbois never seem to realize, is that most of these new games are not what they appear to be. The PR people do this to hype up the game to get you to buy the game, they did it with a lot of games and lied about features, and what you could do in these games. SWTOR is another game that was falsely advertized and so was Age of Conan. Pretty much they are allowed to say whatever they want, and as long as they can get enough nieve, gullable  gamers to buy their product thats good for them because they just get the money they can and move onto the next project.

I learned this along time ago back when I remember Age of Conan being advertized with dirextx10 support and never was at release. Thats when i started to hold off ever buying any games until I've sat down and played them. But I still see a lot of really dumb people out there who pre order game collector editions for 150$ and they never have played the game before and then end up complaining they got ripped off. Well whos fault is that? It's common sense.

Now, see...that's interesting.  I also just noticed they call it "Endurance" not durability in the Soul Attunement vendor.

This kind of stuff is exactly why DP needs more of a tutorial, or at least more of those annoying popups.

Bill is this game any good? Been seeing it around lately. Looks alright, but I'm weary since most mmorpg's are really not that great anymore.

I already knew it wasn't going to be that great. Just looking at the lack of any depth to character creation was enough for me to think this game was just another MMO. Can't say I'm surprised, none of these new games are really all that great anyways. Games suck now a days period.
While I do not agree with the OP. I don't even think I'm gonna bother even visiting these forums anymore, because every reply i read to a post always is just a bunch of name calling and whining, I honestly have no idea why people on this site turn into spastic mongoloids, and get so emotionally upset like 3 year olds over someones opinion when it comes to video games. It's like 80% of the posts on this website are packed full of drama queens and trolls. No wonder why I don't see any of the old members of this site anymore. They all left. I mean we are discussing video games here, not politics. People on this website have some serious mental issues. Go see a Psychologist, or better yet, go back to highschool and learn how to properly socialize, and learn to act like mature Civil, educated adults. Sadly a lot of them seem to be Americans.

I think you all pretty much Missed the OP's point here in this thread, and started arguing amongst one another with your own beliefs what you think is right and what you think is wrong. Because you all seem to think your each the ObI-Won of Gaming and you know everything about everything. You really should try taking the time to read a post, and sitting a bit too wait until your brain can comprehend all the words. He isn't saying Free 2 Play is bad like one poster assumed, nor is he saying "we" are stupid one another poster seemed to assume. What he basically is saying here is the "Free to play" Label isn't free to play. You can play the game free yes but in order to get all it's features you have to pay for it technically speaking that isn't free to play. Thats all he is saying.

Bill I really enjoyed this. I wish MMORPG would do more reviews like this to kind of show gamers on this site what to avoid and what too try out. It's hard to know, because we are fed on a constant basic how every MMO is a second coming of jesus when it isn't. I see to many sites always telling players on a constant basis how great all these games are. Would be nice to have a column that shows the terrible ones. Great Job On this one bill.
One day, I hope some people will learn on this site that Actions speak louder then words. It shows in what people do, not what they say they are, or what they do. Only a complete nieve person would honestly believe that gaming companys really care about the players. They havin't for over 10 years. I don't believe a word what a developers or PR tells me in a video game trailer, but unfortunitly people still do and keep following the carrot.

Its a BS stereotype. People love to trash on gamers, its a fad right now.

I can think of a dozen hobbies that scream depression+anti social, but you never hear about them.

Like stamp collecting, or building bird houses....

No ones stereotyping gamers, and no ones saying it's just gamers. They are saying it' can be anyone from all walks of life. I can tell You have obviously never have had serious depression, or have had it really hard in your life ever to the point of having a mental breakdown were you snap. I don't think people with serious depression, or mental illness first think to themselves "Oh errm gee I want to go to stamp collecting or build bird houses outside!" I think they think about ways of escaping the real world IE Computer, Video games, Social Media sites like vampirefreaks.com, Dating sites, Locking there door and watching tv, not going outside, leaving friends, or killing themselves. Only a complete moron would believe that someone who's suicidal would ever think of building a bird house outside of his house.

1. The Carebear Effect

The worst thing about MMORPGs is that the vocal minority in the player base are capable of driving both the development of unreleased games (via forums), as well as the subsequent balancing patches of games released (via whining to administrators). This is quite obviously the most broken system in MMORPGs. I would still be playing Ultima Online today if their development team hadn't listened to the 8 people who couldn't survive in the harsh FFA PvP environment.

Carebears stifle creativity and progress in many aspects of our culture (both inside and outside of gaming). 12 pussies complained about how death penalties made Everquest too difficult, so all next-gen MMORPGs treat death like a form of slightly off-putting fast travel. If these gaming terrorist aren't stopped then we're looking forward to a future full of Hello Kitty Onlines... I'm not excited about that.

Shit, I hate carebears... I think I'll put that on a shirt or something.

I would agree with you until this point.  You can complain all you want about carebears blah blah blah how big of an EPEENS you have.  However when it comes down to it, it’s a game and people do not have fun with hardcore death penalties.  You can bitch all you want however your way will never be in MMOs ever again.  The few games that have hardcore penalties will have extremely small populations and never feel anything more like a multiplayer game.  Doubt me, why didn’t Mortal Online succeed?  Answer the Average MMO player does not have time for 5 hour body runs like they did in UO or having FFA looting systems in MMOs.  That died years ago when the market for MMOs figured out having soft death penalties created a larger player base so these Businesses could make more money.

O FYI I played UO back in 1998, I was on and off until 2000 when they came out with trammel and guess what.  UO population Doubled within 1 year of trammel coming.  So get over it with your care bear fetish.  If you want Hardcore player a niche game or just delete your character every time you die and start over.

I completely Agree with you about the Death Penaltys, but You are completely missing the point here. Although Good try in trying to prove a point by exaggerating and generalizing things that never took place BTW, because if you really did play UO back then. You should already know there were no 5 hour corpse runs in UO, Not even in EQ1 unless the player was a complete utter Moron that didn't know which direction to go.

See Obedient Gamers,  and Carebears go hand in hand because they are just like butt kissing Workers in the real world who kiss up to management, and accept shittier wages, benifits, and pention meanwhile they are getting nailed up the behind by a few PR people telling them that how wonderful things are compared the way they used to be, it's the same with Gamers who are just smart enough to run the game and believe a MMORPG can be great by making things easier and easier, and believe just graphics and gameplay Alone make a descent MMORPG. But just dumb enough to passively accept all these increasingly shittier MMORPG's with the less depth, less interesting content, simplistic and dumb down classes, and difficulty to where even a small infant can play it, and in the end of vanishing depth, uniqueness, creativity, and roleplaying elements all disappears that disappears the minute you go and pre-order one of your Favorite themeparks. Starwars the old republic which is one of the saddest over commercialized MMORPG's to have ever been developed, along with the long list of newer MMORPG's that I wouldn't even call MMORPG's I would just call them Multiplayer games.
People are really touchy on these forums and take everything so personal haha. I was just meaning to not get so hyped up over the games these days because most of it is just PR hype. I hope GTA5 is good though, but I have my doubts. Not many great games have been released for awhile. :)

With that little admission you have just become just one more in the legion of "whiners". good job.

Call me whatever you want, but anyone who would actually take a personal offence to what I posted is obviously the one with the problem, or a carebear himself who passively accepts all these shitter and shitter MMO's bending over and taking it up the tailpipe from the big Development companys. If that makes me a Whiner, then I'm proud of it, because there is nothing more lower in this world, then man who kisses ass so he can get a few brownie points from a couple of fat rich douchebags that don't give a damn about you or me.

luckilly, there are no mmos, who have had success, by simplifying gameplay

and now a look at tomorrows bizzaro weather...

swtor need so many changes, that it would be easier and cheaper to make a new game

and use a GOOD and TESTED engine,,most of the changes in the OP cant be done,

because of the engines limitations

disagree with this, hardcore games actually don't attract more people, not sure what you are basing that off of but you are definitely wrong.

one only needs to look at wow to come to this conclusion. they copied a hardcore mmo design and simplified it all around and in came the masses.

Agree. Make it too hard and players will flock to something else.

Hardcore has and will always be a minority group

I love how pepople on these forums completely forget thet SWG Pre NGE was bleeding subs at an alarming rate.

Yes, that is correct....your mecca of sandbox games was failing hard...NGE was a last ditch effort to save it. Granted, the NGE made the game a lot worse, but nothing can hide the fact that Pre NGE SWG was going downhill fast. If it came out today, its population would dwindle faster that SWTOR.

SWG was not failing hard or fast. It peaked on Xfire in 2004, no doubnt with the JTL expansion, that is one year after release. It kept a steady amount of players until they started screwing around with the CU and NGE in 2005, but the numbers were not what LA wanted. None of the servers were as dead as SWTOR for years, and there were no server merges until 2009, which was 6 years after launch. SWTOR had server merges within 6 months.

I think if it came out today it would get more population, as at the end it had more features than most MMOs put together. People were mainly put off my the sweeping changes of the CU and NGE.

You are completely rerwiting history....NGE/CU was a direct result of their sub numbers dropping. There is no debating this....NGE was a last ditch effort to save the game, but it incidentially spead up its demise.

If you even played SWG PRE NGE you would know it started with the Combat Upgrade, and just how many people loved that game before these things were implemented, and how well it was doing until the NGE completely ruined everything in the game and more than half of the community left. I was there in the forums right when they put out the NGE and there were hundreds if not thousands of posts flooding the forums of really pissed off customers. Apperantly you were not there when The New Game Enhancements were implemented in November 2005. The Major changes included the reduction and simplification of professions, simplification of gameplay mechanics, and Jedi becoming a starting profession..  The NGE ruined SWG, it Buried it. Everyone that played SWG like it was there life knows this.

Good post Brody, Totally Agree.

Mass Media and PR is great at manipulating the Masses of Gamers into thinking it's going to be the second coming of jesus.

4. The MMO Identity Crisis.

MMORPGs have recently attempted to blur the lines between genres (MMOFPS, MMORTS, etc...). This might seem harmless, but in fact it is destroying the standards of the original genre. Once a bottom of the barrel MMORPG is released with a first person shooter combat system, other legitimate games look at that as an improvement in the genre, and deemphasize things that were originally more important, such as design, originality, vision, cohesion, or fun.

Developers stopped looking at MMORPGs as a genre, but instead just being multiplayer elements themselves to be added to other types of games. Terrible... If that isn't bad enough, half-assed self proclaimed media sources like MMORPG.com praise these devolutions as ground breaking.

3. MMORPGs should be social first.

Don't misunderstand. I'm not saying that community is more important in MMORPGs, I'm just saying that the entire point of an MMORPG is to have the randomness that comes with real people being in control. Any way that limitations on interaction are implemented spits in the face of what a MMORPG is supposed to be. The most fun part of a MMORPG is the possibility that at any time a nude person could run by and insult you in fun and creative ways. Like for instance when i played WoW 6 years ago I was running down the road in Goldshire with my cute little female gnome Rogue, meanwhile a Human Paladin comes rolling up Behind me and Yells out "GET OUT OF MY WAY PECK!!.. SIR GALLANT IS COMMING THROUGH!"  me and my friends all laughed so hard, because it was from that movie called Willow which we all loved watching growing up in the late 80's and the fact his name was Sirgallant was even more amusing.

2. Too many arbitrary restrictions.

Restrictions in an MMORPG are all intentional. Even Gandalf used a sword when the situation deemed it necessary, but for some reason your almighty hero in MMORPG Land can't pick up a broom if it isn't class appropriate. If I want to exert my creativity, why the hell shouldn't I be able to make a shitty sorceror with plate mail and a two handed Axe of Jesus +2?

The main cop-out answer is balance. Balance is an abstract concept derived from the idea that people shouldn't ever have to use creativity to solve problems. I pose this theoretical encounter:

An archer is raining down arrows on you, and you'd certainly die if you stay out in the open. What do you do?

A. Use natural cover and positioning to close ground on the archer and fight him at close range.
B. Accept that you're not situationally prepared for the archer and retreat to fight again another day.
C. Run directly at him , die, then write an e-mail to support about how your class simply can't kill an archer.

If you chose any answer except C, you are not mentally retarded... Congratulations. Sadly, developers only hear from the people who chose C and they assume that the only solution for morons is to either make them much stronger or the archers much weaker. This is inherently a flawed system since paper-rock-scissors type combat promotes creativity and group tactics.

Those who answered C are the #1 reason MMORPGs suck.

If you do Research into this, There is a good explaination for that. It's got nothing too do with WoW being a great and Wonderful Game Either.

The New MMORPG"s that come out now are Dumbed Down, Have less and less content in them, more simplified then ever, easy, simplified mechanics, and classes because the Developers are incompetant greedy Profiteering gluttons who no longer make games because they weren't just soley fixed on money, but also because they were gamers themselves at one point who wanted to make Really Great Games with Excellent story writers, programmers, and Artists, but now it's Like a Shopping Mall were all the Investers have complete control over everything, most of it is all about Money now. That's all they care about, They don't care about making great games because they can cash in on easy sales, and pre orders. Perfect Examples of this are War Z, Tabula Rasa, Warhammer Online, Auto Assualt, All Points Bulliten, the list goes on...

These PR representatives and developers are completely and utterly disconnected with the Gaming Community, Who cater to the ones Who are the Obiediant gamers no matter what (Fanboys) who are smart enough to realize a game "Can" be good, Just by "Graphics" and "Gameplay" but are dumb enough to passivly accept all these increasingly shitter games, with less customization, Depth, story, less lore, less choices, and less Creativity. It's a Big Club, and you ain't in it. We are just the stupid ants following around with our faces in each others assess just hoping the next MMORPG will be better but it never is because those PR people are so good at hyping things up, making a game sound really interesting and indepth and while you do your pre order then are laughing at you and me all the way to the bank because they know you just got ripped off.

*The Golden Age of MMORPG"s is Finnished. Don't Botherr looking forward to it, because you will be dissapointed to the point of giving up on MMORPG"s all together. just be happy for what you have.*

Love ccp- but this?...Leave it to Funcom=TSW rules! nothing else will impress me.

they should of focused on making a 'walking eve-online'  with all factions=unfortunately PS3 highjacked it.

Lord I hope this is a poor attempt at trolling.

Why is it that everytime someone has an opinion they assume they are trolling. Getting really tired of hearing the troll card tossed around here at every turn simply because someone has a differen't opinion then someone else. It's stupid.
