Because if games werent hyped we wouldnt make any money as Gaming journalist perhaps?

Nice topic GFuller!!

I think this is a GREAT ARTICLE... but then again I am biased.

as a fan I am excited about the expansion, and I feel the things in the game that are already imbalanced are so glaring and eronious they will be fixed. DAoC wasnt ruined because of class ballance... it was ruined because we as customers left because of the massive changes all at once that came with New Frontires. People claim ToA made them  leave, but most people I know didnt leave until after their frustrations with the new pvp maps and new keeps made them feel un easy.

(and WOW came out)

Now 10 years later in hindsight, I actually feel the NF maps made the game beter, but it was just too much too fast. So in short, we doged them out for doing the right thing and for comming out with better content 0_o!

add a new map to wow and people cheer.

add new scenerio to WAR and people cheer.

Add a new map to DAoC pvp after having the same map for 4 years and people revolt.... go figure.

bet ya they wouldnt do that again.

I cant wait for this expansion , the new classes are just more melee that deal damage.

I will report more information as it is passed onto me. and you can check the mmorpg.com feature section for when I have something I will make sure you readers get asap!

40 man raids?  Ugh.  I thought the game had a chance to be good, but unless they do the big raids differently from most games that have them, that sort of time commitment is a game-breaker.

If only I could play you the audio of when I was talking about this topic. But as much as we danced around the topic and actual content. I was told that they would have mini fortress instances for joe blow thats getting off work and wants to get together with friends and also large epic "Molten core type raids!

will update you guys as they give me more information about this, but in all serioussness dont jump off the bandwagon til I give the signal!

Thanks for the write up. I am interested in what people's play experiences are like. I would like to see even more articles on this as well. I think you get a better feel when a player writes a hands on piece.

Two things:

  1. As dsebutchr mentioned, console and PC players on the same server imo is also dubious at best. That's not a knock on console players as I like consoles too but I think communication will be tedious. Yeah I guess maybe there could be some kind of voice chat system you could use but, for me personally, I don't want to be in on a "conference call" while I am playing. I can go to work for that.
  2. Bill Roper is formerly of Hellgate: London and Flagship Studios and before that Blizzard. Unless he was in stealth mode he didn't have anything to do with the City Of games.

Hasani, as was discussed in the new screenshots article posts, some (myself included) thought the characters looked weird against the background in some of the earlier pics with this stylized direction they are going in. How did it look in action? Does it look 3D for the most part when playing? A number of the early shots seem kinda flat. They are obviously 3D but the overall look is just somehow flat and kinda dull. I would like to hear what you thought and saw. You mention vivid colors but what does it look like when playing perspective wise?

Ohnoes I vowed i would always answer any non flame comment any reader asked.... but if I answer that question I may not get another interview.

Ill honestly say that YES, live it does look 3d. everything is VERY detailed.

NO things dont jump off the screen but its about the quality of playing GTA4. yes its 3d but its not metal gear 4 type of 3d.

And I have to give a mention about the vivid colors. to be honest it seemd to me as if they wanted to have a comicbook type feel to the game with the vividness of the colors. and they did a great job in that! I will try to get another peak at this game now that I have a good contact thats a playtester, and I will revisist the game and write about it after press beta starts.

there will be both PVE and PVP servers

dcuosource.com/index.php/topic,29.15.html

for the first group, we have PvE servers where you only fight another player when you choose to (e.g. duels, PvP content). Consensual here means you have to use a specific feature or game space to PvP. You have to actively choose to do it.

For the second group, we have PvP servers where heroes and villains can go toe-to-toe (we haven't talked about the specific rules for this yet). Consensual in this case means you've chosen to be on a PvP server and to be subject to the rules of engagement that apply there. You've chosen to live in a more dangerous world.

They will have both pve and pvp servers, but no role playing server.

I just went over the audio of the interview, I was pretty sad about the no role play server part

The plans for the servers was to make them larger as to not segregate players like they are in other mmo's.

not sure what that exactly means, Im just reporting what I was told

with that being said, the pvp in this game was fun. I would like to see how it will go with healing powers thrown into the mix.... could get interesting.

Nice to see them patching useful things in in a timely manner

thats mythic.

pretty much the reason why we all follow them

I want the old system back where you have 100 levels and advances but the progression was as slow as daoc.

daoc had "lopsided" population as well. when you get 40 you may be rather thankful for being on a low population server as it will allow you more time to roam and look for a fight as a group/guild rather than alwasy be forced into a 90vs90 keep siege. My server in daoc had 600 people on at primetime, but the highest pop server had 2000.

publc quest are doable with the right classes up to stage 2 with 2 classes as long as one of them is a healer. the best loot from levels 1-30 is not from PQ's but rather from influence that the PQ's are based on. You can run ANY pq's first stage 4 times and max out your influence.

if you are ignored you wil have tons of fun.

if anyone comes face to face with you... thats another story.

but good news for you.... majority of the people in warhammer have played pvp games beore and pvp rules #4 is attack hybrids last! huray for you!

nah flex healers still need to heal or people will die.....

plain and simple.. you CAN heal, others can NOT... so you SHOULD to be most efective.

besides, you get more RP for healing than you do for nuking...

best tool is the heal button, followed by the detaunt button. I like how hard it is to heal, not just anyone can spam a  "flash heal" type spell.

if people dont play zelot well and dont play runie well, they will fail and they will fall behind in point standings and wont matter... they will eventually quit and reroll.

THe damage you can dish out with a sorc or brite wizzy if you have someone healing  you is a bit crazy at times. but with nobody healing you..... you will kill YOURSELF faster than you will kill an opponent. i can vouch to that one.

"ZOMG I SAw A RUNEPRIZT TANK 532059430 people.. NURF DEM NOW!!!1one1"

one of the largest misconceptions of this game is appearance vs actual game mechanics. you can give your chosen black hair or uber tattoos all you want. dispite it looking like an uber offensive tank it is still a hybrid.
I have done my share of "heal tanking" and most of the time I am warding off chosen.

with an insta HoT, Shield and the heal+hot spell all I have to do is detaunt the person dealing the most damage (usually that would be a REAL tank which would be the blackorc) and I only stop moving to recast my heal+hot.

see now the reason you never see zealots doing the exact same tanking... is because when you see two tanks on a zealot... those are actual real tanks and not hybrids. swordmasters hit very hard.

ill put it in wow terms. your chaos chosen is like a wrath paladin complaining he cant kill a disc?holy priest. while the swordmaster is like an arms warrior chopping up a holy priest.

my priest in wow has survived many as 5 paladins pounding on me trying to get the flag... hybrids arent supposed to be damage dealing machines and sure enough are not supposed to outdamage a target being healed.

i fought a chaos as my runepriest who was 4 levels above me and beat him.... i wonder what are the odds that you were fighting me?

you get beat by a healer that is lower than you, its skill not "uber overpoweredness" the fight i was in took me almost 5 minutes to win.

I played for a long fight, he played for a quick kill... defense won out over offense. If i had gone in trying to nuke him into the ground i woulda lost in 30 sec, if he would have played to disrupt spells.... you know.. which is the seccondary role of the class you rolled by the way but i am going to guess you did not spec that way... any spell disrupt while i was  at 50% life followed by a stun or knockdown or a morale ability would have finished me.

its a tactical mmorpg gentlemen. you need to play smart and think ahead. its like playing chess not checkers.

Read the patch notes.

they lowered EVERYONES damage and made all skills cost less AP.

they turned it from a first person shooter back into the tactical mmorpg it was lastyear in alpha.

now you can have a long drawnout battle and use AP abilities. if i wanted 20 sec fights i woulda stayed with wow.

Ummm fellas in a game like this a healer SHOULD keep you alive and an entire party alive against opposing damage.

this is not wow or fury,,,, which are mmo first person shooters. this is a TACTICAL mmorpg.

if you are endlessly pounding on an ironbreaker and want to cry nerf.... why dont you ignore the ironbreaker and kill the healer?

in every rpg ever created since the dawn of time the oldest line is "rush the mage"and in every pvp game i have ever played the healer class has been like the most pivotal to any battle. why would this game be any different?

yes I noticed a healing nerf. sorta. they made the smallest heal insta cast... but making the spell instant cast you have to greatly lower its effectiveness. they also lowered the effectiveness of the big long slow heal but in my opinion lowered it a bit too much.

now the 3 sec long heal restores as much hp as the britewizards 3 sec long fireball deals...... thats a huge problem. healing cant crit for 100% damage and heal you OVER your hp total... like the bw damage can.

to me healing should always have longer range, 50% more points per damage spell 50% more efficent than damage mana wise  to make any game balanced.

they already said that gear won't be a huge difference so it will be more skill based.

did you actually read my post? tsk tsk tsk, its a bad habit to reply when you dont read it all.

" (9) Renown rank gear
- Unfortunately, a new bug (well an old bug we fixed and then managed to break again) which allowed Rank 10 RR 6 players can go to Tier 2 to get better gear and then come back to Tier 1 and own scenarios. We are currently working on a fix. " -official statement

Shows that gear made all the difference in these scenarios between players who have it, and players who dont.

So obviously players with better gear have the upper hand, regardless of skill.

no gear did not make all the difference. It was letting players have an unfair advantage and players with skill and gear were gaining more points than they should have.

my backlash became MORE of a problem as I got higher level.

i died more and more until I got stuck at one point and just stoped playing.

But One thing about another posters statement of domination in instances. I seem to get more renown when i live vs when I die. it almost seems like the better your ratio of party kills to deaths combined with damage... gives you most xp. also, you seem to get more xp for being lower level and finishing better.

when I was level 9 killing level 12s i seemed to get more xp than level 13 killing others my level.

this is why i leveled so fast. its just hard to stay alive. 1000hp getting whacked for 350 a pop hurts... I could have just been smart and gotten gear with +HP on it... but that wouldnt be as fun.

With all that said, and as much fun as I had.... Im still playing a runepriest speced in overtime efects named Bishopx (like malcom x)

if you spam spells ... especially the instta cast spells... your going to die by blowing  yourself up really fast. the backlast damage is no joke for a class with so few hp... god help you if you are taking damage while casting. I had more than a few double KO's this weekend

if you use standard stand to cast spells, and play smart and use "meltdown" you wont explode. Me on the otherhand, I just wasnt 100% focused on keeping myself alive and died waaay too much.

but the difference between an 100 point fireball and a 400 point critical is alot!

playing friday saturday and monday morning...  I made it to level 18. I got stuck at 18 because my backlast spells kept killing me and the run back to the mob area was 5 minutes from town... so after 2 hours of this i just quit.
