All these years and the best they could do was pump out this sorry "unit." ... ? Especially after all their big talk, their lies, and now- their sorry ass excuse for customer service, It's a god damned insult. That's the only they've managed to succeed at when it comes to the experience with name brand companies, treat you like dog shit. Why are people posting bitter rants? PEOPLE ARE PISSED OFF! A lot of us have followed this game for more than a handful of years. That's lot of time wasted on forums, interviews, hype and anticipation for what has turned out to be a turd sandwich. I wish nothing but misery and failure for those clowns at aventurine. Well sorry to break it too you but the game is not piss poorly implemented at all. Sure it is nothing ground breaking revolutionary, but it is a good combination of aspects of games we liked in the past executed pretty well in a new game. This is likely one of my favorite games to date and i do nothing but wish the best for aventurine. I do have complaints about the game, but non if even remotely adds up this zealot absurd rants which seem to come mostly from people who have never even touched the game.

Have fun in mortal online will probably see you there. Looks like an interesting game and the devs are cool.
There is a lot more to darkfall then a wanna be fps. It is a very good game. Great PvE, great PvP, ok crafting and harvesting, and decent economy. |

repeating the same stuff in every thread and in every post gets old and become tiring... Missing ..is result of bad aiming ..and indicating skill to hit successfully instead of computed *miss * or *hit* after button mashing in usual MMORPG's..if they spam a lot they loose stamina a lot what will reduce their chances in being succesfull in that combat ..again skill..(confirmed wins of outnumbered minority win battles) Everyone is using the weapons aothers use is the result of freedom and the result of just 8 days in release with no high level specialists in certain skills and maybe also the result of lack of organisation with things not planned beforehand and just "lets attckl the city" approach ... DarkFall on the way to EPIC win .. hail DarkFall ..brought back MASSIVE into MMO
What? For every lie some fanboi spews, I will be here to correct them or guide them back to reality, based on past games and logic. Missing? Who where they missing, they aren't even aiming.. There must be 30 mana missles in the air hoping to hit their targets, what are people getting 15% success rate on their attacks? It's nothing more than granade throwing in COD or Battlefield. Where is the COMBAT? All i keep seeing is the same thing..! Secondly, the whole stamina thing is a joke and you know it. The fact people are more worried about their stamina, than their own health implies an extremely bad implamentation of combat. Specially when stamina isn't working correctly. Why does wearing Platmail not consume 3x the stamina as cloth or leather. Wizard types (ranged) can move freely about the battles field placing their attackes more precisely, etc....?
I played an archer in Ultima Online from day one, never used a sword in combat never wanted to wield one. Everyone is Darkfall is the SAME, because Aventurine has failed at implamenting a sandbox skill system and their skill trees are even remotely finished or even working. Thus... full armor and carry a big stick= Alpha template. Have you ever played Battlefield 2142..? (Be honest!)
The game is less then 10 days old. Everyone in darkfall is the same right now cause most are still working up through the lesser schools to get to one of the 10 biggers schools. Even in the lesser schools you see different weapons, pole arms, board and sword (or ax or mace), great swords are all viable weapons with difference after some tweeks. Daggers, axes, and i think great maces (not sure) still need some tweaking. Especially daggers. Before they are more viable in combat.
Polearm is slow but works well broadly and has good reach Great sword is pretty similar but is slightly faster
X and board is good cause u can use it on mounts, you can block pole arms very easily (i tested this with a 300 ping)
Daggers do alot of fast damage close up but the reach makes them not very viable. Axes have similar problems.
Maces normally work better against heavily armor people, |

Secondly, there isn't anything massive about this game. Many of us played "massive" years ago and did all the large scale battles. Perhaps you only 19, new to mmorpg and this is the first game where you've seen 30 vs 30 or soemthing, but there is nothing revolutionary, or hardcore about Darkfall. It's nothing other than a very bad FPS game, with a limited amount of attacks. How can you argue that? Game is 2 weeks old and nobody stands out as a good player or different from anybody else. I didn't see one person duck+swing when being attacked... not ONE! When i was in beta I had all kinds of combat macro set up. Jump+overhead swing, etc. Combat is just boring and stale... I'm an exceptional player and nothing within this game allowed me to build on that! Darkfall may be the most restrictive game i have ever played. I had a bank full of stuff, 3k in gold and nothing to do with any of it and no reason to collect more. WTF is that?
I have done beta and release. And release is alot better. Combat has it flaws. But i know some exceptional players, and you might actually just have to come to the fact you just might not be one. |

WIsh, shadowbane (was there but not as good as df) thrones of chaos, dark and light, horizons, ect. ect. The list goes on and on. RIght now darkfall is not perfect but is a hell of a fantastic game. There were alot of ideas that were cut, some fo which i am sad about. But the core of the game is fantastic and is still there. I am literially on the verge of saying I enjoy this game more then I did UO. |

I would also not really want a tcos system like that in darkfall. I would rather a simpler system, UOish with real time. Not something with a million different attacks you click button wise. Instead of poison hot button i would rather a poison skill where you apply poison to your weapon. I think the current skills with melee are just fine. This is not a everquest game with 40 combo attacks just aimed. I would like to see a UO style healing system and increase to weapon damage. Along with this however there would have to be a fix to the sprinting system. IN combat you should only be allow to sprint in short spurts or charges. These charges would work like they do in savage 2, they would draw for from your normal stamina pool so there would be an effect over time. The healing would work good also in really intensifying the combat making it a back and forth. If you snuck up on someone and killed them fast it is possible, but if you screw up and they are able to parry and heal you are in for a fight that could be long or could be short depending on how people use short durations of time in conjuction with long term fighting possibilities.
I have not played TCOS but want too, but it is basically a level quest based. It does have a skill system on top of a class system, and no auto aim. Basically in general terms EQ with some mods. Outside of alot of quests, innovative combat system and an arena it has nothing. (besides one of the best art designs i have ever seen in an MMO)

They actually enjoy what they do and make choices that cut their profit for the sake of the business, like darkfall, that they love. Reading interviews with the devs and the investor jade mehdawi, the darkfall people yes want to make money. But they also want to do that well making a game they love.
Ok, I Admit i got it a little wong, this is what i meant: Its Aventurine's business to make a good solid game true to the design and development plan fromthe beginning..BUT its the Investers business to make money and only that. Conflict much :)
I should not be knippicking points outside of what is nessasary for the conversation. sorry for side tracking. I will just say this in agreement, if the investor wants to make money and love what he had the devs do, they cannot have what is going on. Incompetence is a bad thing even for people who love what they are doing. You are correct.

The guy who did most of their AI work use to program military simulations. Think Tasos did as well heard he was in the navy. |

It wasn't close in beta, so I guess they got a lot done in the last few days.
gg AV
Within the last year they did cut alot of stuff out. No NPCs doing stuff, no player house, no prestiege classes, alot of the stuff like new innovative quests system from early interviews was cut. Alot of other really stupid mostly just fluff.
The only major major major thing i see missing is wheather. Which was in early beta but then taken out for some unkown reason.
ALso suppose to be mob evolution or something like them playing and skilling up, i am not exactly sure how that works though and if it is in or not. |

Besides Tasos himself, who i think owns about 10% i am guessing, the only other major investor is Jade mehdawi. He some person in greece that runs alot of semi olympic like games. I have been trying to find out if he had anything to do with the greek olympics a few years back. If he did it might explain about of why this launch is so horrible. The same reason the olympics that year sucked. |

Aventurine under estimated this "Niche" Market
General Discussion « Darkfall 2/27/09 11:09:55 AM
I do not think they did. They also wanted to start with a small player base and build up.
Most of the people applying for this are your normal fly by nighters. I was one in warhammer, not one in aoc cause i played that for a while.
even if the launch went perfectly 70-80% probably would leave the game anyhow after the first months. They would find they do not enjoy the griefing and the full loot. People are treating this like the launch of a major MMO its not, was never meant to be. But a bunch of kiddies think its warhammer number 2 and mobbing it.
One of the reasons this is going badly is because this is a niche game but everyone thinks they are part of the niche and as only time will tell alot won't be. I am not saying these people are not "HARDCORE" they will just not enjoy this type of game. They may like the ability to face people in even fights, they might want instant action, they may not like the 20-30 minute walks to kill something, they may not like the mobs harder to kill AI, they may want quests, they may want better crafting.
If they really wanted this game to have mass appeal they could of done the following. The the capital, starter cities, and surrounding areas and make them safe zones. Keep the hard mobs, but put in tons of rather well written quests. Have some sort of controled pvp like open arena, racial faction (same race) combat, and racial combat. This would act like empire space in eve. All the player controled cities however would be pull loot anf FFA. This would be like eve online basically. |

they can't even get the preorders into the game yet
Because they are trying to filter through the preorders that got rampage by the hype mob. Because a trillion people assault their preorder servers half the preorders got cut off half way through.
While doing that they also have to launch the game server as well.
This is kind of no ones fault but there own, the mob is the mob, big companies like soe and others can deal with it. An indi company can't. |

Not sure all this DARKFALL DARKFALL DARKFALL!!! Hype is good for the game. This is not age of conan or warhammer where they are looking for mass appeal. They were actually hoping to launch with a small stable community and build it up over time. This is one reason the launch is so F-ed up. They are an indy company creating and launching the game. They will make some nice income from the initial sale, but they will also have to invest alot in customer support, new servers for a rather complex and untest server build, and other things. They will have to do all this for what is most likely a group of people who will not play the game beyond the first month. The game is very different and alot of people will just not like it.
After being in beta i can tell you this will be a paid beta. There are tons of people who love this game and are willing to endure this, but the majority will leave after a month complaining how this was not as polished as wow. They will be expecting a indi company to deliver similar to a funcom, eamythic or blizzard. When they have no where means the capability to do so. In the end everyone does have the right to buy, but all the kiddies out there who run from popular launch to popular launch then quit really need to know they might be doing this game a huge diservice. |
