Steam is a program released by Valve (Half-Life, Counter Strike, etc.) very similar to xfire to communicate with friends, and to purchase games to download.

Actually, history has shown when the economy is in the doldrums (not doing well for the lackwits out there), that movies and other forms of home entertainment (video games) do better. People stay home so they dont have to put gas in the tank of their car, and to be a homebody is generally cheaper than going out to do things. The money spent on the subscription for a game is much less than fuel, and eating out.

Yes, I believe you cannot patch the client until it is active..  which as far as I know is 7 am EDT Tuesday morning for SE accounts.

Yes, I have read the beta client works after a small patch.

if you have the beta client, it's just a small patch up to full version

You should just be able to access your account and look at past purchases etc..   It is part of the Download Protection service they offer for free when you buy the game. If not, contact support at D2D

Is AoC the perfect game? No.

Does it have issues, bugs, lacks? Yes.

Was AoC rushed, things missing? Yes.

Notice the flamers don't really have any option to playing AoC, they are either waiting (!) for another game, or going to games like Vanguard, Tabula Rasa...

What about upcoming games?

Well Warhammer is soon to be released, and from what is said, it's less buggy and more polished. And will probably have more subscribers than AoC.

I don't really care, it still looks like a boring WoW-clone, alot of people seem to think it's just boring.

 

The only game that could really challenge AoC is Darkfall.

However Darkfall got shitty graphics, and it isn't as unlimited as you'd like it to be. Though it's a step in the right direction.

 

Until something better shows up I'll continue subscribing to AoC. Not only because it's the game I prefer to play, but it's a support for someting new and innovative in the MMO buisness. I might leave if I see a better game, but not before.

You think AoC isn't limited? I quit AoC because it is THE most limited game out there. There is no exploration whatsoever, everywhere you go there is a load screen, and the quests have you constantly travelling through the same tired zones, over and over again.

And by the way, Vanguard is coming into its own, and that game is FAR from limited.

I enjoyed the combat and the quality of the character models in AoC. That is all. Put those into a game like VG, and I'll be good.

I think the achievement system looks very promising myself, gives you one more thing to do instead of raid constantly.

I downloaded and re-subbed to AC1 a few weeks back, because I remember having a blast playing that game years ago. It was still the same game I enjoyed so much...  but...

Having played all of the "modern" MMOs, I have grown too accustomed to the controls of the newer games. Pressing both mouse buttons to run didn't get me anywhere in AC1, and the UI was very unfriendly IMO..  especially when you lack tooltips and item comparing.

So instead of trying to "unlearn" all of the latest control methods, I cancelled because I was convinced I would just be forever clumsy in the older game.

There is never any best ship.  Some pirate gangs run in a nano fit, others load up on cloaked stealth bombers, other gate camp in smart bomb armed cheap battleships.

I take that back, the best ship is one you can afford to lose.

 

Exactly. If you should choose to pirate, always fly a ship you can afford to replace often. That includes loadout, dont spend millions fitting a 250,000 isk ship.

I believe the newbie area is a single-player experience, or there is the option for it.

I am an Avast user as well and got the warning about a Trojan..  but it was only one time this evening.

I currently use a 50" DLP HDTV by Toshiba, with a GeForce 8800 GTS and I have had no problems with it. I notice no ghosting at all. I have played EQ2, WoW and Guild Wars on it.  The only trick is when setting it up trying to find the resolution that works perfectly with the monitor.

The Nvidia control panel includes a utility for sizing the resolution based upon your TVs aspect ratio, and it seems to work alright. I am using a 1280x720 resolution.

The TV is connected to the video card using a DVI to HDMI patch cable.

The only, albeit very slight, drawback is that very fine text, ie: 8pts or lowers can sometimes be blurry and difficult to read, but that can also depend on the font being used.
