Originally posted by Tortoise I Agree with you on the total save zone problem with neocron. (mind you, I abused it also myself) But there are alot of more dynamic ingame solutions to create a corridor of near-total safety for lowbies and alike. Guarded caravans heading for certain systems. Rentable guard npc's (who you naturally sacrifice to get away) and lowlevel 'get away quick' items which might cost money but might get you to finish the transport which earns you more money then the trip costs. And then there's the social aspect, you can ask for protection for a small percentage of the profit. The effort people put into skills to hunt you down, should be equal to the effort to prevent them from killing you (scaled to proper proportions since we are talking about lowbies). Pulling this out of my hat, lets say lowbies have small ships, and small ships can be easier protected by a forcefield, or cloacked, or accelerated. This means lowbies can take bigger countermeasures compared to higher level players. Thinking purely in numbers, this should make it possible for a lvl 30 and a lvl 5 to match eatchother in the position of hunter and prey given thesame timespan to work on it. After a month of work, the lvl 30 can either managed to get bigger missles, or the device for scrambling a warpfield. In that same month, the lvl 5 should be able to save up for the warpfield-overdrive device, or the shield-booster. Both took a month, and both ended neck to neck in the battle between prey and hunter.
Ingame solutions to near-safety. That would be nice imo. |

The discussions on the thread you mentioned seemed to me pretty normal for a thread that is repeated too often already. The avatar issue seemed to be done to death and some of the flaming originates from this fact. Also, it is a subject that has been discussed by the devs. With as reason that this subject will be pushed back to keep the release date ontrack. Any fan of a game in development will try to keep release date ontrack. And the one thing they fear is that a horde of 'outsiders' (a fuzzy label I agree) might give the marketing/ceo/ or even the developers the impression that in order to capture the target-market, they will need to add this feature at the cost of a later release date. Such an event might be enough to push any fanboy into a rabbid frenzy. Just look at Sony's decission to make SWG more appealing to a younger audiance. (Still foaming from my mouth here)
You seeked out a sore spot, and tapped on it, turned around, pointed and shouted "See! Agression!" Not impressed. |

Thanks to the mouse control in JGC, you would be able to head towards the docking-bay at full speed (requiered speed for docking was 10 u/s or lower or else kaboom), switch off your engine, do a 180 turn and switch your engine to full throttle so you would slow down enough on the very last moment. (and you would dock into the station facing backwards :P ) Enertia is both your enemy as well as your friend. Can't imagine that they would remove that feature from the game. |

Originally posted by methodd Odd, I remember doing missions and hauling cargo and building up my ship in JGC. Can't imagine that not being the case with JGE. Why do you think JGE is going to be exclusive PvP? Sure, there are unsecure area's. I stayed away from them untill I was high level enough to outrun dangerous situations. |

In AO I was brought along with a group of high-level players and was allowed to loot. Ended up with a Solar-burst canon which took ALL of my unused skillpoints to even use. Mind you, I could insta-kill for a while :P |

The first JG has thesame firefight as your twitch-game. When firing energy weapons, you need to fire where your target WILL be. The targeting system of the game always indicates this. Then there are rockets, which come in different flavours. You have dumb rockets, rockets that need targeting, and fire and forget rockets. So, the original JG is not a game of statistics, but primairely about aim. (and the stats of your gear, bigger bombs, smaller bombs).
I GUESS JG-evo will follow thesame path, but they stated they wish to support more than one play-style. So that seems to indicate there might be non-twitch styles possible.
Not sure. |

I think some meta discussion might be in order. I kinda fell over the pew pew remark.
I feel myself part of the PvP crowd, because of the danger it adds to a game. But to be PvP, is to be 'pew pew' you say.
That's generalizing and polarizing. "Only people who like hurting people like PvP" that is what I got from it. What happens? people will dismiss you and your arguments, and it stops being a discussion but a mudsling competition.
Be more constructive when you wish to initiate a discussion on a heated subject.
Everybody press reset now, we're doing this over. |

Before I start, would you like this to be a PvE vs PvP discussion? Just to warn you, those can get VERY long and often include faul language from both sides. (on the other hand, this forum could use a bit more activity).
Apart from that, I think it's all a matter of the quantity of players. Now seen as JG didn't grow like WoW, I bet they predict a medium size of player-crowd. So my GUESS is that at release no pure PvE server will be available. But you DO know that JG uses security levels right? you could fly across the galaxy using long but safe routes, or short and dangerous routes.

Is that Huxley? damn what a suckass game.. it seems to run inside a webbrowser, with a resolution of what? 100 by 150 pixels. All kinds of strange compression artifacts and... What? .. are you saying that was a VIDEO of the game? That didn't stop the other replies from making judgments about the game graphics! Seesh!
I bet, with propper editing and mixing, and the right location, World of Warcraft can look like a strategy game, or even a FPS.
This video should not have been leaked to the public. Period. |

If I wanted to know this, I would go to a forum of an official JG fansite. That way you know for sure you're dealing with current players. Hell, there might already be threads about banned cheaters and hackers. Just an suggestion. |

Like any rabid fan should do, lets talk about the game as if it's already available.
As Quantar, we will SO own Octavian fighters. Booo! Octavia sucks! Me and my non-existing squad will own you all! .... Gawd I'm bored! |

It is my opinion that 'save' should be a certain degree of 'very unlikely to die'. Call me mad, but if multiple squads of epic proportions invade enemy space, they should be able to wreck havock. Granted, after the first and 2nd wave of defensive NPC's have been erradicated, the station transmits a distress signal calling for increasingly bigger support ships until you get to the level of 'stoopendous' and the enemy has to retreat or be whiped out with weapons not unlike that of a planet vaporator. Effort should be rewarded, even wrong effort. You just need to ensure the weak players need not suffer the full length of such an attack. Offer them the option to transmit their clone-data to a neighbouring station or something. Emergency protocol or something. Epic wars are epic, because they can reach the level of epic.
"We have breached the enemy defenses at great costs, 70% of our nations resources are depleted but we have reached the main station!" "Excellent, and? to what extent did we cripple them before the cursed neutral TRI got envolved?" "None sir!" "Good we... NONE!?" "Yes sir, when our criplled and burning ships entered the sector of their capital station, we got a little blinking message on our screens stating that PVP is disabled in that sector... sir!" "..." "Sir?" "Have everybody trade in their fighters and weapons for a mining-ship and cargo extenders." |

How civil and polite. I hate it already! ... And while you fly to the agreed battle ground, halfway there you get ambushed on entering the sector and the opposing squad erradicates your platoon while they materialize?
Trust me, if JGE is like JGC, there will be plenty of oppertunities to duke it out. HAZZAA! |
