Star Wars: The Old Republic: PAX Trailer
News Discussion « General Discussion 9/06/10 10:07:57 AM
I'm glad they've decided to show some of the armor diversity, though most of the outfits made me want to gag. The Tribal look of the Sith Inquisitor was a little over the top for me, so was the other sith's almost steampunk look. On the other hand the Imperial Agent looked a little too bland. But hopefully this just shows that there will be a wide range of options. Gameplay looks like your standard MMO, which is fine. I really dislike the turn towards arcade style combat in MMOs recently. |

I'm really enjoying the game myself, despite having some crashing issues at peak times which is to be expected. I'm part of the old school MMO crowd though where group grinding was how you leveled. You didn't spend all of your time leveling though, you explored, crafted, read up on the lore and took part in whatever storyline was occuring at the time. I just hope they didn't sink a ton of resources into it expecting it to be the next WoW. I think it'll have a pretty good player base, and a fun, respectful, community. I personally will not miss the WoW crowd. |

Crash crash crash crash crash crash crash... all day long. It's been a nightmare since this last patch.
I'm running: AMD Phenom II 965 Black Edition @ 3.4Ghz 8Gigs 1600 Ram ATI 5870 2Gb Asus Rog Matrix Windows 7 Premium 64
And I've been toning down the settings trying to stabilize things, but it hasn't been helping. |

Anyone else think this is dreadfully overrated?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 9/04/10 1:31:08 PM
People like to bitch. The more people you have interested in a game the more people who are going to find fault with it. The complainers are always going to be your most vocal majority in a forum because they are the one's who really want the game to be the best thing ever and can't get over the fact that it isn't perfect in their own perspective. That's why IPs with such a huge following as Star Wars generally don't do well as MMOs. Too many people with too many expectations and the ones who complain about the game the most, the ones with the most unrealistic expectations, drive the developers to change it, which drives away those who liked it as it was. *cough* NGE. |

I hooked up my 360 pad for this one after playing a while with the mouse and keyboard and find I prefer the mouse and keyboard like 1000% With the pad I kept running into walls trying to control movement and camera seperately with the two thumb sticks. Maybe it's just me, but I don't have this problem in other games like L4D... It's probably because of all the lag, or maybe something wrong in the way I set up my pad to work. If I set camera controls and movement controls to the same stick would it work better? |

All Points Bulletin: What Went Wrong With APB
News Discussion « General Discussion 8/18/10 11:30:30 AM
I agree. The game had a lot of potential, but the payment scheme was terrible, the gameplay was repetitive and the controls were awkward. Had the game been 1st person rather than 3rd it would have been better as that would have made the combat a lot more fun. Take the combat from Crime Craft, or most any FPS, and put it into this open persistant world game and you'd have far better results, but they tried to appeal too much to MMO players. Even then it would have been far better served as a cash shop game than a P2P sub game. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Space Combat Video
News Discussion « General Discussion 8/18/10 11:10:16 AM
Originally posted by heartless Nah. It does look more fun than EvE. The graphics are better, the combat is faster paced. It looks like fun, especially if there are ways of getting ship upgrades by doing it. But comparing the two is like comparing apples to oranges. EvE is about a power struggle in space between huge corporations. It's about strategy and long term planning. This part of SW:TOR is more like an arcade game. It's just for fun, and it's tacked on just so that the people complaining about no space combat can have it. I'd say it looks pretty representitive of the actual space combat that happened in the movies. That said however, I am really disappointed by how terrible that fat Sith's outfit looked. Pointy shoulder pads? Are you serious? Not only that but the rest of his outfit was just blah... And your response to him giving you the ship, which didn't seem to have a choice wheel attached to it, makes you seem like a spoiled brat. Any intelligent Sith treats his master with respect until the opportunity arrives to stab them in the back. They don't act like petulant children who expect everything handed to them. I hope this isn't a sign of how all Sith interaction is going to go. |

Same mistake, different game. Too many recent and upcoming games are going this route. I'm a fan of the holy trinity because it creates a need for diversity and encourages grouping. Hybrid/Classless games are always too easy for a tactical team because they are set up to be more solo friendly. Everyone is DPS with one or two skills to help with solo survive-ability. It's a very self sufficiant type of system, but it also makes it so that, even in teams, it's every man for himself. I'm definately not encouraged by this news. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Space Combat Cont'd: On Rails Edition!

What is it, you just trolling or are you really this dense? If you're trolling then haha the joke's on me and I feel like an ass for trying to explain myself. If you're not trolling and you really just don't get it, I'm sorry, I'm not arguing over your misconceptions any longer. If you had some issue that actually dealt with what I was trying to convey and not just "He used a swear word so he's being childish." I would be happy to debate. But hey, I'm a nice guy and I hate to have people continue to misunderstand me, so I will summarize my original post. The quotes are there to show that those words are being said by a fictional character leading the development of SW:TOR and how he goes from wanting to give the players everything they want, to the realization that no matter what they do those same people are still going to complain. My father would have said: "You'd bitch if you were hung with a new rope." He was much more succinct than I am. |

Originally posted by CujoSWAoA Once again, you fail to see the context. I wasn't speaking for myself. Hence the quotes. I've said nothing that 'sounds like a child'. Instead I have illustrated the way that today's entitlement driven gamer behaves, and the reason that many times developers seem to ignore the player base. |

OMG! No Space combat = FAIL! "Looks like we'd better put a couple guys on implimenting some kind of space combat before launch or people will be angry. I know it's not what we had planned, but we have to listen to our costumers, hopfully they will understand that it was added in an effort to please them and give us some time to really make it into something better down the road." OMG! Space combat on rails = FAIL! "You know what? Fuck these kids." |

Have you ever paid for F2P games?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 8/10/10 10:33:32 PM
I bought a couple classes and the Drow race on DDO. Other than that I've never used a cash shop in an F2P game. |

how long did it take you reach max rank?

I played for 3 months in beta and never reached grade 11 and the new ship. The game is just so damn boring and repetitive. |

Do you make it to the end game in F2P games, or just move on to the next F2P game before that? Poll
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 8/10/10 10:28:35 PM
F2P or P2P it really depends on the community, and most of the time F2Ps have terrible communities. Half the people I can't understand because they are Asian, and the other half are bots and spammers. I'll play solo for a while until the game hits its grind point and I start to feel like I'm not going anywhere, then I'll quit. |

Has SWTOR serious issues? (mature discussion pls)
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 8/10/10 1:16:34 PM
All I can say about the graphics and the other games coming out is that we shall see just how playable those games are on your standard rig. Remember Vangaurd? Age of Conan? Visually stunning games, but they ran like cold molasses on anything but the highest end computers. I think Bioware is being very smart knowing that we have been in an ecconomic recession and most people haven't been able to upgrade their computers in a while. |

Once you do one "story" you can do another, by rolling an alt! Really?

Originally posted by Philby Hi Philby! LOL... feels like an Altaholics Anonymous meeting. I agree with ya. I'll probably start out with a trooper even though I am really itching to play a jedi, just because I am sure a lot of people will be starting out as Jedi and I think there'll be more groups looking for troopers. |
