I just love it how game companies sell preorders and give preorders all kinds of nice bonuses (mount, extra items, +xp ring to those who preorder collectors edition, and god knows what else).

Then they keep the real beta under NDA so that we won't get information what kind of game the real game is, but release a small part of the game as an open beta, to work like a preview of the game.

And we get tons of fans telling us that we shouldn't judge game based on beta when the company selling the game is practically screaming "Judge the game based on this and buy now to be one of the privilidged preorderers!" with every action they take.

EDIT: I just noticed that even now at the bottom of this page is Funcom advertisement telling to "Preorder now and receive free ingame bonus item" /EDIT

I'd suggest not buying the lifetime membership, you'll be better off just paying monthly fee as long as you play, and then you'll be more free to change to some other game without feeling like you're losing the money you spent on Lotro.

Because in 20 months we may have games like Bioware's secret MMO, Blizzard's next MMO, The Agency, Darkfall, etc. out. I think that Lotro is a good enough game that it'll still be well alive and have players by then, but I think it's safer bet that you won't want to play it for the next 20 months.

I think that Blizzard's idea is brilliant. Personally I love playing in small groups, but up till now WoW's PvE end game has forced me to be with huge amount of other people (first 40 and then 25) or not to play at all.

Now I hope I can finally play something really challenging with a small group (or relatively small, 9 others besides me). So challenging that even the small group would require really good coordination, strategy, and that every individual would have to be skilled. That's the kind of gaming I want.

Make sure that you have updated your graphic card drivers. But other than that, it's more likely an issue with the game than with your computer. Your processor is good enough for the game, you have enough ram for the game, and your graphic card is more than fast enough to run the game.

Just wait for Funcom to finish and release the game, and if you want to play before that, change the graphic settings to lower. No need to spend money to update your computer because the game is still unfinished and has performance issues with some systems.

This is how much they have redeemed themselfs

Now the debugger has been removed and still we have memory leaks.

My problem is..I see a ton of issues with that image...and it is your own fault for your issues

AVG running in the back ground...AV and betas do not mix

And the Flash9util is also a problem...do a search for flash9util problem or issue

Have you tried the delete cache files and run from exe trick...?

If the beta is not working with Antivirus programs it's an issue with the beta.

If the beta doesn't run normally but requires some tricks about .exe files it's an issue with the beta.

And if an beta requires deleting of some chase files to run it's an issue with the beta.

A game in closed beta with many months before release may still have those kinds of issues. It's acceptable because it's nowhere a ready product yet. But a beta wich will be released in less than 2 weeks shouldn't have that kind of issues any more. It may require some things like driver updates, but it should work once installed and shouldn't require any tweaking at all besides what can be done from in-game setups. Just like a released game should work.

Most likely Aion or Wakfu, if those come out before the end of the year.

This patch is definitely good news. Now (judging based on this topic), it seems that the performance of the game is close to what it should be at release, instead of being at where Vanguard's performance was at the release.

But it's sad that many fans are lying at us, or at least I feel that I've been lied to. First I've been told that open beta was earlier version, and closed beta was newer version without much technical problems. Yet now I'm told that there was a huge patch in closed beta and it (nearly) fixed the large technical problems, wich according to what fans previously told, didn't exist at all. And now I'm supposed to believe those fans even after this?

I'm eagerly awaiting the game, and for full lift of closed beta NDA. The game is only a week away from the release, why can't Funcom now lift the NDA? Are they going to lift it now that they've released a huge patch, or are they going to keep it until release to hide something that is completely unfinished?

EDIT: On a second tought about that NDA, I quess that since Funcom has kept it on for so long, they probably won't lift it before the launch of the game. They can't be hiding anything positive or they'd have lifted it already, and they know that majority of those who are intrested enough about the game to even know that there is an NDA aren't patient enough to wait until they hear reviews from the full game (what it was at the end of beta) but are just going to buy without hearing of it. /EDIT

It's not really easy to find group in any of the MMOs, but I'd suggest trying out Dofus. It has by far the best grouping system I've seen in any MMO.

If it's not possible to form any opinion based on beta, shouldn't we all agree then that none should purchase the game but instead wait until the reviews come out. To prevent Funcom from releasing another Vanguard and screwing up paying customers.

If it is possible to form opinions based on beta, then the OP has some really valid conserns about the game. And especially since Funcom encourages people to buy the game without waiting for proper review first with their preorder program, I think it's really good that people like OP tell other what Funcom is asking them to preorder.

EDIT: And btw, why haven't they completely lifted the NDA from closed beta testers yet? NDA is good when the game is not ready, but closed beta testers would be the best source of information what kind of game AoC is now that it's supposed to be ready. What are they hiding? /EDIT

If GOA will be running the servers, I won't be purchacing the game, unless EA/Mythic provides me the option to switch between GOA servers located in Europe and Mythic servers located in USA when I wish to do so.

I have nothing agaist GOA, but after the major screw up they did with DAOC, they should give us customers a quarantee that their servers work. If they don't give such a quarantee, I'll start from the assumption that they haven't improved their service either.

The Fileplanet "open beta" is very close to what the game is in release. Funcom still has a few weeks to make the class balance better, fix broken things, and correct a huge amount of smaller bugs.

But if there is something wrong with the core game itself. If it lags, or if it crashes often for large protition of the users, they won't be able to fix that kind of things before the release. There won't be any more a magic patch than what there was with Vanguard.

But with that said, I suggest that those who aren't in Fileplanet beta still wait for NDA release of the closed beta before making a preorder. Because Fileplanet beta testers are shown only 13 levels, first few hours, of the game. While that is good, it doesn't tell anything about if they have finished content for later levels at all. And even in this thread, a person told about lvl 18 boss mob dropping nothing. That doesn't promise good...

Can anyone post some after NDA info about the game from a site that could be considered neutral in the matter? Tentonhammer can't be considered as neutral by any standard, since they have their own AoC site and thus it's their advantage for AoC to succeed well.

But lifting NDA from reporters is a great thing, I hope we'll now get some professionally done previews of the game based on how it played in beta.

EDIT: I didn't see Nadia's post (above this post) yet when I was writing this /EDIT

Good time to buy a new PC is always when you need a new PC. Not a moment sooner, nor a moment later. Because the prices keep always dropping, and even the experts can't make any reliable predictions about how much.

So buy when you need, but only if you feel you need. If you feel you won't need yet, you'd get a better PC for the same price in a couple of months.

Do not disable spyware or virus protection for patching. Spyware and virus protection should both be kept on all the time, the only exception to this is when applying some patches to your operating system, or to the spyware/virus protection program itself.

Age of Conan is neither your operating system, nor your virus protection. Unless there is at least official statement telling that some virus/spyware program doesn't work correctly and thus needs to be disabled while patching, do not ever test if disabling antivirus program would get something to work

Providing AoC to European customers costs more because:
1: Europe is a diverse area with multiple languages. The game needs to be translated to a few of them and communication to customers needs to be translated to a few of them. Whereas in North America, much larger precent of the playerbase is able to speak English
2: When you launch a game to the US, you can hire cheap english speaking customer support people from India or some other country. Whereas when you launch a game in Europe, have good luck trying to find anyone who can fluently speak some European languages besides English outside of Europe. The customer support has to be done in Europe, with professionals who are usually paid quite well for being able to speak multiple languages.
3: Since dollar price is so low (and compared to that Euro price is so high), that means everything wich can be bough and produced in dollars seems cheap to us Europeans at the moment. Funcom can't make local server farms and customer support to Europe using dollars only.
4: And in Europe, there's VAT added to everything. It's our form of taxation, and thanks to it we have overall a better free schooling system, better free health care, etc. For example here in Finland I don't think there even are universities who'd charge Finnish people anything for attending. We get more from our government, but we'll also have to pay for it.

But I think that Funcom is still ripping off us Europeans. Or more likely, they are giving a discount to North America because they don't dare the be the first ones to raise the game price over 15$ per month there. Because they are using exactly the same prices as WoW is using in North America, whereas in Europe they are charging nearly 2 euros more per month than WoW is charging (after VAT is counted).

I don't know what you think you agreed. But the subcription price to Europeans is 20 dollars into month, and the VAT comes only on top of that. I never agreed that Funcom asking us Europeans 1/3 more before taxes would be caused by taxes.

But, I don't want to generate another argument about that. I just get mad at people who decide to tell that something was discussed and agreed when it was discussed but not agreed.

PvPMP can be quite fun. But it's still PvP added as an aftertought to a PvE game. Lotro is a great PvE game, and I suggest everyone who likes PvE MMO and questing to check it out. It is not a PvP game, for a PvPer it doesn't offer anywhere near enough to do.

And while a monster player might have fun for a while, there isn't enough content, there aren't always people to fight against (at least in the servers I've played), often it's much more about zerking a freep than skill or strategy. And don't even dream about ever having a balanced match, the game is designed so that freeps have the advantage, and since it's a PvE game even the diffirent classes are unbalanced in PvP.

If you want to PvP, check out Guild Wars, or wait for AoC or WAR. Or even WoW offers much more to a PvPer than Lotro.

I think WotLK shouldn't be on the poll. WoW is the current great MMORPG, the next great MMORPG needs to be something other.

But my vote goes for Aion. AoC and Warhammer Online will probably be good, but not likely that great. Darkfall has a chance, but it won't probably be released any time soon, same for Guild Wars 2. And as far as I know, Aion has the best chance of being a real hit and the next great MMORPG.

Try to downloading the dll (mastcrasher already provided the download link), and put if to your /windows/system -folder, and to same folder with the program that gives you the error message (the AoC/Fileplanet -thingie program as you seem to call it, I haven't downloaded myself so I don't know what kind of program it is)

EDIT: And if you are using Windows Vista, I think it's more likely than not that my advice doesn't work. In that case wait for someone's advice who knows more about Windows Vista than me, or switch to Windows XP /EDIT
