The I take screenshots of loading screens for wallpapers page...heavy image 56k go away
General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 1/18/13 3:56:09 PM
OP: Those images won't work for anyone but you because you've linked your emails and we don't have access to your Gmail account. To get the images work, you'll have to upload them to some free image hosting website, eg: http://imgur.com/, then link them here. |

Originally posted by GrubbsGrady If I run speed tests my downloads are 25mbs, upload 4mbs, and ping is 40ms. If I go to cmd and ping google.com or steampowered.com I get 35ms and 80ms pings respectively. I will however get 1-3 pings in a row about every 10-15 pings that come in at 150-1100ms Does the ping increasing like that happen constantly? If it happens allways when you try, then you could just try to get some Comcast worker to come to check it out. You might end up having to pay Comcast if it's not their fault, but at least their worker will be able to pinpoint where the problem is and tell you how to fix it. It'll likely end up cheaper than trying to fix the problem by replacing your router/other components which likely work just fine. You could also try to use the tracert and ping -commands to find out the problem. You could start by checking if ping to your router stays constant, then doing a tracert to some ip address (eg. google, see syntax42's post), and test every hop given by tracert to find out which hop is the first one where you'll get those ping increases to 150-1100ms. |

If they are only starting alpha now, then the game is far less finished than we tought it would be.

I think 5800K's faster clock speed would win over 6100's more cores in most of the games since most of the games can't use that many cores. But I'd say that it's best to buy the cheaper out of those two and use the money saved to buy a better gfx xard. If you're buying the computer to play 3D games your gfx card should cost more than your processor, not less. |

Despite everything that has been sead, can't we agree that GW2 is a success?
General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 1/11/13 5:21:29 PM
I don't think GW2 was really a success. It wasn't a flop, but so far it's just done ok, not really been a big success. Expecting MMORPG.com forum users to agree on anything is unrealistic. I doubt we could even agree that GW2 is a game. |

Can't promote or kick from new made guild
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 1/10/13 5:16:08 PM
Did you make someone else guildmaster? If you did, then you lost that rank and the rights that come with it.

This thread can't really verify anything about typical MMOers age, because people who visit MMORPG.com forums aren't a representative sample of MMO players.

Chrono Tales: Grab a Closed Beta Code
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 1/07/13 7:28:08 AM
The devs can't even write english properly. Either that, or the game comes with pets that are all tame at the start of the game, and gear called "forge legendary gear", and the devs have really classified it as "massively multiplayer online role-playing game online game", (MMORPG online game). |

Are you really serious? 1. He knows your IP address because Skype shows him your IP address when you're in contact with him EDIT: Here's how he finds your IP address: http://blog.hcstation.com/2012/06/how-to-find-ip-address-of-someone-via.html /EDIT 2. IP addresses are just addresses. That threat is about as serious as someone threatening to disconnect your phone because they know your phone number. |

Thinking of buying Mist, what's the size of the download ?
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 1/05/13 2:50:51 PM
Less than 0,5gb before you get to play the game since it streams data when playing. I don't remember how large the total download was.

Because the picture is that large. The invisible part of the picture counts too and takes place, even if it's invisible.

None of your progress was lost. GW2 downloader just doesn't save the status of progress meter, and thus every time you start a download the progress meter starts from zero. If you look at the files remaining you'll see that it's smaller number than what it was on the first time you started download. I agree that GW2 downloader is bad compared to some others, but it's not that bad. |

[Column] Wizard101: A Kid’s Game? Not Quite...
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 1/03/13 5:17:20 PM
Originally posted by Alakor I have played WoW up to level 3 and I can vouch that each class has only one attack in WoW. All you do is repeatedly mash that one button until the enemy dies.
I've also played Wizard 101. By level 35 I and one other wizard had used our training points to buy some spells and customized our decks for maxium synergy. By about 4th turn the storm wizard could launch an AoE spell that usually wiped all enemies out at once, because we had cast 3 different spells on storm wizard making that spell stronger, and spells on individual enemies that made them weaker to that single spell. In each battle, I normally discarded about half of my deck each turn (deck is seven, so 3-4 discarded) looking for the correct buff and debuff spells. If the storm wizard's spell failed I used my pips to heal and had to be careful about discarding to not run out of spells before the end of battle. |

Need A Game Recommendation Similar to XCOM: Enemy Unknown
LFGame « General Discussion 1/02/13 10:05:12 AM
UFO Aftermath, UFO Aftershock, UFO Afterlight, UFO Extraterrestials, and of course the original UFO Enemy Unkown are very similar to XCOM Enemy Unknown. You might also like Disagea games, Fire Emblem games or Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. Jagged Alliance games are also similar to XCOM. I don't think there are any similar MMOs. There are turn-based MMOs like Dofus, Wakfu, Atlantica Online, Wizard 101 and Pirate 101. In Atlantica Online and Pirate 101 you even control a whole team. But there are not the same kind of grand strategic decisions and the battles are way shorter and less exciting. You might like Command & Conquer Tiberium Alliances MMO. Even if it's very different from XCOM, there are both grand strategic decisions and planning strategy for individual battles. |

Originally posted by Cleffy In that article, if you'd remove both the highest result in favor of Win 8 and the highest result in favor of Win 7 as measurement errors, you'd end up with opposite result and Win 7 would be about 1% faster. The writer of the article understood it, and wrote that 1% difference off as measurement error, stating that speed is the same. |

Originally posted by dreamer05 I believe it's what you said, wirless router with walls and microwaves and cell phones and all that. I mean aside from getting a 300 ft ethernet cable there is really no way to hook it directly to the router. I just can't believe they haven't made a wireless router that can better handle the situation. What is the distance from your router to your computer? If it's really nearly 100 meters and there are walls in the way, then that's likely the problem. Could you maybe move your router so that it's closer to the computers? If not, could you buy another device for amplifying the wireless signal, something like: http://dx.com/p/portable-2-4ghz-802-11b-g-n-300mbps-wireless-wifi-repeater-ac-100-240v-107457 (caution: That is only an example of a device that could work, I'm not very familiar with how to extend the range of wireless network) |

If you have multiple monitors, then definitely Windows 7. Multi-monitor support of Win 8 is abysmal. If you have only a single monitor, then you could really go with either one. The driver support isn't that much different, and performance diffence is minimal. Windows 8 would have faster booting time and some nice new features speaking for it, whereas Windows 7 has interface better suited for large monitor, less bugs and it's more polished. The difference isn't large. Assuming you're used to Win 7 already but haven't learned to use Win 8, there's no reason why you should switch and le-learn the OS. Microsoft will have launched Win 9 and adjusted the interface from Win 8 anyway before Win 7 starts getting old. EDIT: Make sure to get 64 bit version of Win 7 (or Win 8), not the 32 bit version. /EDIT |
