Another KS update (#19) - Eternal Kingdoms.

Nice info. If it works Eternal Kingdoms could be awesome places to create with your guild.

However I'm a little doubtful: If a single campaign lasts more than a month, won't the Eternal Kingdoms feel too disconnected from campaign gameplay?

I think I'd like it more if they allowed you to gather basic resources inside the campaign and send them directly to your Eternal Kingdom and have the Embargo Vault only for rarer items, or some other connection between the campaign and the Eternal Kingdom that would work all the time not just when a campaign ends.

I sometimes play female because if I'm going to look at my character's ass for 1 000 hours it'd better to be good looking ass.

I've also once played females for clothing options available to a female (SWTOR).

Once I did it because there was size difference between the models and I though smaller gave in-game advantage.

When you reformat windows 7 leaves a folder called 'windows.old' in C drive.

The folder is left if you re-install Windows, but not if you format.

I think correct terminology is important here so that people won't get mistaken: Formatting hard-drive deletes everything on it. There will be no windows.old left if you format.

Originally posted by Allein It isn't to balance or make it fair, but make it a reasonable difference. Going from 100 pts after a month to 175 after 6 months or longer could result in only 10% more power or whatever. For some it would be worth the time investment and potential neglect of other skills. For others, having 20 skills at 125 might be a better option.

Source for this, please. Since they already have training taking exponentially longer as you progress, I think it's unlikely that they'd also have diminishing power gain per skill point trained. Especially considering what it would do to their class and specialization system that has larger skill point caps to most important skills as large part of the system. Power gained per skill point will be linear, and with skills such as swords for most people it'll make sense to try to get one battle skill as high as possible if you have time for it.

If the power increase per skill point trained is linear, it's very unlikely that difference between 100 points and 175 points would be only 10%. That would mean difference between 0 skill and 175 skill would be less than 27% more power. Would the devs really make their skills so insignificant that the difference between 0 skill and maxed skill is just 27%? The difference will be a lot more than that.

Want to be better? Play the game.

I think that's the issue. Want to be better? Do not play the game, create an account and leave it waiting for a couple of months as you do something other and your skills develop.

Those races you speak of besides Gnollls go back long before EQ.

FFXI/FFXIV has unique classes, tarutaru and Mithra and Galkan.

In FFXI you can play the creatures in the game. You have to skill up and work your way up to get more and more creatures to play but still it offers something no other game is offering.

The real reason you will see very little unique races is because a lot of games are using only 1-2 models and just adding decals and a new head but it is the same model.Once they get into actual unique models it takes them a lot more work, something that modern mmo's seem to be afraid of ...work....effort...no way costs too much.

maybe when you one day actually gain the knowledge of how to actually create running/idle/skill-spell/death/damaged/emotions/etc animations along with modeling for armor/weapons, then you won't be so flippant and dismissive about the actual hard work and money that goes into adding a unique race into an mmorpg.

And maybe a game would budget and allot time for a better game?

These were done decades ago. Are today's developers incompetent? Have all the "old developers" retired?

There is always an "excuse" for cutting gameplay out of a game. Good developers figure a way to get it done. Bad ones whine, "It costs too much!"

Back when those old developers made games graphics, models and animations were all much simpler. Devs could easily create 20 unique races if they used graphics similar to EQ 1 today, but not many would play it.

quality > quantity

I think that those half-races only fit in a fantasy world dominated by humans. I'd much prefer fantasy worlds where other races were so plentiful and driving that you can't have a race of Half Orcs unless you want to create separate races for Half Orc Half Humans, Half Orc Half Elves, Half Orc Half Trolls, etc.

In almost all cases the promotion class increases your skill maximums on all relevant skills. This enables the player to train their skills deeper into a chosen path, becoming a master at what they do.

....

Discipline runes can increase your skill max with certain skills

I'm concerned about this. With training skills done in real-time, and promotions and discipline runes that allow you to train further into selected skill, it'll too easily mean that time passed after character creation determines the winner of any 1vs1 engagement.

If they offered horizontal progression with their training system, it could be a good thing for the game. Now it looks like that new players entering the world can be a generalist who are able to do multiple things, but old characters are specialists who have gained more power in their chosen focus based on the date of character creation.

http://crowfall.com/#/faq/54e9501e93fc8d634e4d690c

This gives a bit more explanation.

While age and build choice will have an impact on a characters power, it appears they are trying to even the playing field somewhat between new and vet players. So that a 1 year old character is not 500% stronger than a new player like most games.

Looks like it will be relatively quick and painless to reach a point where a player is useful in general. From there they go down further specialization to increase whatever they want but there will be diminishing returns.

With that said, this isn't a 1 vs 1 game or 5 vs 5. While they appear to be putting in mechanics to not reward zerging, numbers are supposed to matter. So that a group of new players should have a chance against 1 vet or even a few if they know how to play.

Without going into a progression less system, no easy way to avoid the power creep. Although their design seems to make it less substantial.

Nope, I don't see how they are supposedly evening the playing field.

Just for the record, I'm not against old characters being more powerful than new ones. I'm against a system that would encourage new players to not play because there's nothing they can do to the power difference besides quit the game and return a couple of months later.

Originally posted by Gdemami With no offense but you do not seem to know what you are doing...you are trying to put DDR3 memory into DDR2 board. More RAM won't make things run faster and it is very, very unlikely that your current 4GB will be a trouble for any game you will run on that rig. If you still want to upgrade your memory, it would be better to post exact model numbers of your motherboard and memory you are using. DDR2 might be reported as 400MHz because the internal clock is actually 400MHz - it is the bus clock that is double of the internal clock, allowing for double transfer rate.

I posted the wrong link doesnt mean I dont know what I am talking about.

The fact you say RAM doesnt decrease latency means you have no idea what your talking about.

He's actually correct that more RAM doesn't make things run faster. RAM is space, not speed. You'll only need enough space to hold the game/program you're currently running and everything above that is wasted.

More RAM is probably beneficial if you like running multiple other programs, like browser with a lot of windows open, in addition to a game. Most games will however do just fine with 4GB of space and only very few can use more.

The RAM you've now linked to your OP post will probably be fine if you have 2 free RAM slots on your system.

This one is my top choice right now, if you have a better one feel free to post, I would like to keep it under $100 dollar, unless its 16gb.

That choice is DDR3 memory, you need DDR2 for your motherboard.

Best solution would be to check out what kind of RAM you have now, you probably have 2x2GB of something. Then if the same model is still sold at reasonable price, buy another 2x2GB of that same model you already have and you won't have to worry about compatibility problems.

Don't worry. Reign of Kings comes from a company that already has a track record of one early access they released as unfinished, buggy, horrible mess. It's very likely they're planning to do same with Reign of Kings. It's meant to be a tech-demo to attract early access buyers but never become a good game.

If Life is Feudal is serious about making a good game then Reign of Kings is no competition.

I would agree with you about Reign of Kings except for the fact that you are completely and totally wrong about it. You can however stay all hung up about their first effort.

Those that are actually playing ROK are pretty blown away at the moment.

People also voted Vanguard: Saga of Heroes at its release state as the best MMO.

People getting excited at launch doesn't mean the game would be good, it's just people being excited about something new.

You progress by buying better equipment from cash shop or earning it through gameplay.

This is the type of issue given MMORPGs, that developers and players alike fail to recognize. It does not matter how much data and evidence you present, especially when that data and evidence itself can be interpreted in various ways by various people (and then attempt to claim that "logic" maintains that their interpretation, aka opinion, proves anything). There are particular features that truly create an MMORPG, and without them, you no longer have an MMORPG.

Can I ask, what do you mean by this?

If the topic is fun or what we like about MMORPGs, why would the MMORPG need to be an MMORPG? If it's not an MMORPG then it's misclassified, but couldn't it still be something fun and likeable?

That's beautiful.

I think Homeworld: Cataclysm is the most beautiful game I've played, or was, it's graphics are aged now.

They lost something between 100 000$ - 10 000$, I'd say they caught on surprisingly quickly if 3 of their people were on the scheme and weren't able to get more than that.

To sum it up: You're complaining that the world changed against your wishes?

You may have not heard yet, but its more than a flight sim. A lot of the code is there yet, but not ready for public testing.

A trial player will have to download 20gb and gets just a flight sim. The game might become more than just a flight sim in the future, but at the moment rodarin is correct that 20gb download will give you just a flight sim trial.

Contrary to the OP, Nvidias cards aren't top of the line powerwise atm.  Look at any benchmark for current gen GPUs.

That said, I'd never buy anything but Nvidia because their driver support is unparalleled.  Unless things changed in the last year or two, AMD cards usually last about 2 years before your driver updates come every 8-16 months.  Meanwhile a 6 year old nvidia card still gets driver updates every month and plays new games without compatibility issues.

You haven't the slightest idea what you're talking about.  For years, AMD released monthly driver updates, while Nvidia released driver updates less commonly--only when they had something that it made sense to package up as a major driver release.  AMD finally conceded that their monthly driver releases were ridiculous, as in a lot of them, they didn't have anything new worth releasing, so they joined Nvidia in only releasing new drivers when it made sense.  Now both AMD and Nvidia's main driver releases (as opposed to beta, hotfix, or game-specific optimizations) are much less than monthly.  Nvidia has had six regular driver releases since the start of 2014.

Now, it's not a bad thing that Nvidia does that.  But arguing that Nvidia is better because of more frequent driver updates is nonsense when:

a) Nvidia's driver updates are about as common as AMD's, and

b) driver update frequency isn't the appropriate metric.

That's nice if they are doing that now, but oh, 2 years ago or so when I had an AMD card I went the better part of a year without a driver update because my card was over 2 years old.  I looked it up to find out if other people were having the same issues and found an encyclopedia worth of people complaining about AMDs long term driver support.

So cool story.

That you don't know how to go to AMD's web site and download a driver for yourself doesn't mean that AMD doesn't make drivers available.  Nvidia does tend to offer new drivers for a little longer than AMD, but AMD will reliably offer new drivers for at least 5+ years.  AMD tends to discontinue drivers for a few generations at a time, so the earliest of the batch might get new drivers for 8 years, while the latest only gets new drivers for 5.  Drivers for older cards are going to be limited to bug fixes, anyway, and not performance improvements--regardless of your vendor.

Now, it is possible that you got an AMD GPU for which you genuinely can't update the drivers.  Some laptop vendors disable video driver updates, but that's not AMD's fault.  If that's your situation, blame the laptop vendor, not AMD, as AMD offers the drivers, but the laptop vendor won't let you install them.

If he had Radeon HD 4000 -series graphic card, AMD moved some of those models to legacy driver support just 3 years after releasing them.

Not possible. There's no way to automatically adjust animations and equipment of characters. That would need to be done by a human and would take too much time.
