People should know only one thing:

They don't give refunds if they fail to deliver a product that was purchased from them.

This is written in their Terms of Use, and you'll have to agree to this if you make a purchase.  https://www.pantheonrotf.com/help/terms

Back in 2012 I loved my Logitech MX 1000 mouse.

I propose we should let this thread die because most of the messages are more than 2 years old.

Reviewers aren't trying to do science, they are trying to give other people useful information.

They don't need to experience everything about the game, and don't need to be correct about everything. That's not the aim of review. The aim is to give descriptions and evaluations of the game, and recommendations about buying it or not buying it. One doesn't need to have played the whole game to give those.

I back up my most important files to my second HD, and periodically from there to USB stick.

Less important data I just dump occasionally to an external HD.

Since Quizzical started talking about UPS: I'd say an UPS is overkill for simple home computer, but if you can get a decent surge protector cheap somewhere it would be good insurance that power spikes won't break your computer and at much cheaper price than UPS.

I think the vilification is completely justified.

He created a Kickstarter project with so low funding goal it was unlikely he would have been able to fulfill the promises even if the Kickstarter had funded.

Then he created his own website to get funding, and if you buy through it you'll agree to terms of service like "Items included in Pledge Packages may be substituted, changed or eliminated at any time for any reason or no reason at the sole discretion of VR"

And it also looks like he's used large amount of funds meant for production of the game for his own personal purposes.

He's using other people's money on a project that has no chance of being completed because it doesn't have the funding. I don't think it justified to even call it crowdfunding. It's a scam. He completely deserves all the vilification he gets.

I got my desktop for real gaming.  Sitting pool-side browsing or playing something like Hearthstone is what I had in mind on this.  Maybe a movie. That one I think is junk after seeing the review.

Sorry for asking this question, but are you certain it's wise to sit besides the pool holding in your hands a tablet that's 50cm wide and weights more than 2kg like that Dell XPS 18 does? If you're also planning to use it for gaming, then you'd need to hold all the weight with one hand to have the other hand free for reaching the center of the touch screen.

There's a reason why large tablets are so rare, usually people don't want to use anything that sized on their lap. With a laptop it works better because the keyboard can hold the screen in upright position. With a tablet you'll need to hold it in your hands, or have some kind of stand for it, or look down to your legs while using it.

Are you sure you wouldn't want either a small tablet that you can comfortably hold in your hands, or a laptop that has the keyboard part holding the screen up?

Personal pool not a resort or anything. Probably tables out there. Maybe even a bit of time on a sailboat. Just going to be outside a lot, Florida. I'm going to be outside a lot. Just not on the move and don't want to be constantly confined to my desktop for casual stuff like hearthstone or browsing. I don't splurge on stuff like this much. Came across spare money and thought about it for awhile and figured "Fuck it why not."

If you put a tablet without a stand on a table, that's like looking down to your keyboard. If you're sitting in front of normal desktop right now, try looking down to keyboard and imagining you'd have to stay in that position for two hours to watch a movie.

If you have a laptop (or a tablet with stand to hold it), then the screen can be in upright position like a monitor.

If you plan to use it only as a tablet, never with keyboard + mouse, I'd suggest getting the largest Android tablet you can find. Android and its programs and games are all designed to work with touch screen, whereas Windows games are usually designed for keyboard + mouse.

Personally I'd never switch from Windows to Android on my home PC, and would never switch from Android to Windows on my tablet. Using a program that's designed for the controller you have just feels so much better.

EDIT: Largest Android tablet I could find is Lenovo's 19.5 inch N308:  http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/desktops/essential/n-series/n308/#features

I know absolutely nothing about Tegra's.  I've seen Quizzical post about them but I don't recall to much of it. I'd have to do some searching.

Tegra is not a problem. It's a lot slower than good Intel/AMD/Nvidia solutions built for Windows and desktop PCs, but Android is designed more towards mobile devices so that you'll never run into anything that would have high system requirements.

But there's a bit of a problem with that tablet, it's cheap and poorly done. Battery life is poor and the display is bad.

EDIT 3: I accidentally listed two "tablets" that require power cord. Deleted those from the list. Sorry

Kinect and Wii Mote controllers are probably just as or more dangerous compared to VR headsets when it comes to physical injury and those did fine in the market.

That's like comparing the physical injury risk of sitting vs. exercise and concluding that exercise is bad for your health because it increases your injury risk.

It's a PC online game with destructible terrain using Unreal 3 engine.

Or it's not, this is mostly a guess.

Try out Wakfu, Dofus or Trove.

Your processor might be fast enough. If you look at Passmark's performance chart, it gets better score than the recommended Intel processor even if it scores lower then the recommended AMD processor.  http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html

I'd recommend waiting how the game runs before doing any upgrades.

Hush! I most definitely need an astrologer to see if an MMO is becoming F2P in the future.

You can read it yourself by the position of astrologers' posts on the recent forum posts list: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/realtime/

If the 1st, 3rd and 7th post on the list are made by astrologers, then your favorite MMO's prices will soon be adjusted somehow. If there are less then 3 of astrologers' posts visible at the time, this adjustment will decrease your gaming costs. If there are 3 or more it'll increase your gaming costs.

Actually yes they should go to jail, seriously also. They make those business lose so much money by cheating or hacking or botting or selling gold, and they know far well that it is not legal to do so.

If you don't understand why they lose money here is a hint : lose players because those players are tired of always playing with hackers or botters or gold sellers = lost of revenue or some times a full shut down of a business = not legal.

If you can't understand that then you need to go learn a few things about life. Because this is far more serious then to steal a chocolate bar at the store.

So yes they should get a criminal record and even do time for all the lost of profit. That will serve them right.

So, I have a lemon stand. If you have one, then I accuse you of cheating? They lock you up?

Do you know the difference between legal competition and obstruction of business? If you tried to put up your lemon stand INSIDE your competitor's lemon stand, then yes, you would get locked up.

What if you play said video game and make too much gold. If (anyone) doesn't like it they whine you're cheating and then BAM, you're locked up?

This is not about liking or disliking people. It's about Nexon gaving proof that those people use 3rd party program to manipulate the game.

It is the cheater/botter's problem that they didn't program their game properly?

Is it the terrorists' problem that WTC towers weren't made properly?

What if the game's owner cheats (like Eve, for example) and makes free stuff for their players? Do they go to jail?

WTF are you talking about? CCP owns their game. Owner's right to their game and 3rd party's right to game owned by someone else are completely different matters.

At some point, the business has to take responsibility for protecting itself.

I'm quite sure they

1. Have programmed cheat detection and banning tools to prepare for cheaters

2. Detected that those people cheated

3. Banned those people do prevent further damages

Isn't demanding compensation usually the next logical step? That's usually done in RL cases when company's own security manages to catch someone that has caused some damage. What should they do to recoup the damage? Hire hitmen?

And, if anything lost from the game is a criminal offense, then you're being criminal by playing so much and the game (and so its owners) are by not kicking you off.

1. Nexon didn't claim that anything lost from the game is a criminal offence. Only that this very specific case of causing losses due to breaking EULA this way is a criminal offence.

2. Failing to protect yourself is never criminal. If the owners won't kick you off they might be negligent, and that might reduce their chances of getting damages/protection by law later on, but not protecting yourself is never a crime.

You DO understand that you can also make someone else appear to be the cheater?

You DO understand that you can also make someone else appear to be a rapist?

I think Gish was awesome game:

Most games today you have to sign terms of agreement or something similar effectively a contract people get sued and prosecuted all the time for breaking contracts why wouldn't we see gaming company's start to take legal action against people.

To copy/ paste one of my earlier posts in this thread: -

EULAs are contracts of adhesion, therefore you generally find in favour of the gamer and against the company that drafted it (since you are forced to sign having already purchased the product).  They are also over-ridden by national law; for example, you can't alter negligence tort or copyright statute in a EULA although most firms do contradict these laws.

In practice EULAs really are largely meaningless.

If true then its past time that those EULA's were allowed 'teeth' if people knew that they would be at risk of some kind of legal action against them, then that might discourage many of them from breaking them, and honestly i don't have a problem with that at all.

For example, if you knew that for a first offence, you risked incurring a £100 fine for a minor breach of a games EULA, that might make people think twice, and considering the company already has your credit card details anyway its easily enforceable but for those who don't pay by credit card, its worth bearing in mind that any fines imposed by a court ruling etc can be legally recovered as an attachment of earnings from your wages from your employer, which can also hurt your standing with your employer, after all, they might want to know what you've been up to

So yes, lets have EULA's have some legal standing, its about time.

Then we need proof of being of majority age as no EULA could be agreed to by a minor and the EULA must be stated before purchase. This would hinder anyone under 18/21 from ever signing up to any game or service online or that requires a EULA.

This will hurt far more than it helps (concerning profit) since this will create more red tape and new departments in confirming that you are entering into a legal agreement with an adult of full mental capacity.

Then we will have companies like Sony adding things like Spyware to your PC and put it in very small print in the bottom of the eula that "we reserve the right to hack your computer"...Far Fetched? They did it...And were sued in the California Supreme Court.

"but it was in the eula" was no defense for Sonys ctions.

Afaik minors aren't incapable of entering contracts. They just can change their mind and disaffirm a contract later. So in practice they could disaffirm the contract to avoid paying the fee.

It wouldn't preven minors from agreeing to EULAs any more than minors agree to EULAs today, just as long as the company doesn't actually expect to get fines from minors. And I think the companies would be perfectly happy fining only adults.

EDIT: And that's only talking about situation in US. I live in Finland and here a minor wouldn't likely be bound by a contract that would cause obligation to pay 100$ fine later, but the same minor might be bound by the contract if he gave a 50$ collateral as guarantee that he won't break the EULA, as long as we're not talking about too young minor /EDIT

I think that criminal charges for not following rules of a game is taking it a bit too far. Especially in this case since we're talking about students, two of whom are underage. There should be a better way to solve the problems.

However I don't know all the details in this case. If they have done things like dodged permanent ban multiple times by creating new accounts, there should also be a line when companies can use legal measures. But only in cased when banning alone isn't effective enough, not against cheater who does it just for fun and gets caught the first time.

Some day, some VR headset, will have us playing MMOs in 1st person mode, but I think it's very unlikely it would be Oculus Rift.

VR headsets will first have to overcome the challenge of beating monitors in first person games that are already suited for them. Only when VR headsets are better than monitors at it, will they start to become serious alternative for games like MMOs which are normally better suited for 3rd person view.

Another day, another spam attack. Please do something.
