Radeon 7970 is a good card, even by today's standards, but it's not that much better than 7870. You'd be paying 187$ for something that might give you 30% better FPS.

I'd recommend either spending significantly more money to a better graphic card, or waiting until you upgrade. It's not cost effective to do small upgrades.

Another issue is that a mod creator can cease to upgrade his mod for newer versions of a game rendering them unplayable.

Buyer of the mod would always have the option to not update to newer version of the game.

The two issues as I see it, are:

2. The way a mod creator could use others work to earn money, without permission, and without sharing the profit.

I think this will be much less an issue if they release the paid modding together with some new game, where modders will know of the rules and possible issues even before they start work on the mod.

There will probably still be problems and some abuse, but if modders know what they're getting into before starting to mod they're much more likely to accept the problems that come with the system.

Is the website bugged, or is the change on front page intentional?

I think it tells a lot about a game, when its lead moderator abuses caps lock on forums.

Kilsin didn't create this thread title and he is the lead moderator, Keiiek simply copied his post here with a new title.    Kilsin's thread title on the pantheonrotf.com forums was Quick Update (not the real one).

It also says quite a bit about a poster when they needlessly complain and are wrong.

Sorry, I was wrong. For some reason OP had copied also the community manager's signature, links and all included, to his post. At that point I failed to understand the signature was part of the quote - I though it was OPs and he was community manager delivering message from some dev to these forums.

In hindsight if I had read the post and the names more carefully I might have avoided this mistake. Sorry.

I think it tells a lot about a game, when its lead moderator abuses caps lock on forums.

Well, I know TERA is numbers + f-numbers and mouse is used for combat. The ability to chain skills or macro/chain them helps. But as soon as you move, you need to hit alt again in order to use the mouse-over (which I was able to use while solo in a dungeon in combat, but not exactly something I would suggest for most people).

So, what is being sought after in this question, is action combat where you do not lose the mouse-over by moving or entering combat (cause damn is that a pain in the hindquarters).

I think the problem is, your request is hard to understand.

Action combat requires by definition that you aim your attacks. Do you want an action combat MMO that allows you to aim by keyboard turning?

I wonder if AoC would allow that? It's been too long since I've played it so I don't really remember any more.

GTX 960 is maybe 20 - 30% faster than GTX 660 TI:

http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2015-vga-charts/compare,3673.html?prod%5B7372%5D=on&prod%5B7248%5D=on

EDIT: When looking at the link, look especially at "20 index at 1080p", or  "21 index 2160p". Those give you the averages measured /EDIT

GTX 960 costs a lot of dollars for a small performance increase. I'd suggest either keeping your current card, or if you upgrade get at least something like R9 280x that gives 40%-50% performance gains for about 250$

http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2015-vga-charts/compare,3669.html?prod%5B7284%5D=on&prod%5B7248%5D=on

If you need upgrade and can find the money, something like GTX 970 would also be a good solution. It costs about 350$ so it's expensive as hell, but it would offer about 100% speed increase compared to your current card:

http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2015-vga-charts/compare,3669.html?prod%5B7477%5D=on&prod%5B7248%5D=on

Try to go for big upgrades when upgrading your GPU if possible. It's a lot cheaper in the long run to pay for big upgrade every 5 years than it's to pay for a small upgrade every 2 years.

Witcher 3. Or if you don't like Witcher, then I'd suggest Skyrim.

ESO is not a bad MMO, but it's good only if you're looking for an MMO. As single-player game it's not good.

I think all of them allow. It's just so slow that you're at a large disadvantage.

Fair enough. I would rather just go through the Steam workshop and download them there whether they're free or paid.

Does Nexus revenue share with its modders or Bethesda?

Nexus revenue goes to upkeep of the website and bandwidth costs.

In my previous post I did forget one thing. I won't be making any more mods for Skyrim.

Reason for this is I make them for me and decided to share them but now that will change since it can be used in a for sale item in which I have not received any return.

I also have decided that future games such as those developed and sold with a mod kit are off limits so I won't be buying them.

I guess I have to find a new hobby now. :(

Why don't you just put them on nexus and allow good people the benefit of your work?

Or put them on steam and don't charge?

people who mod who decide not to mod for this reason are just hurting the community. It's like you are stomping your foot, taking your toys and going home.

My large mod which I have been working on for over a year will not be charged for as I want people to get enjoyment from it if it's their thing. And I don't feel "right" charging for something that I feel is just a mod done for enjoyment.

I don't have to allow the decisions of others affect that. Neither do you.

Probably because according to Valve, by not charging for his mod, anyone is allowed to use his mod to make their own and charge for it. So you decide to make a free mod, I come along, take your mod, add a sword to it, and can sell it for profit without your permission.

I'll have to look that "clause" over as that seems odd.

The two closest items I've found is one where, if there are "multiple contributors" you need to list them and their shares. I can easily see this one being a mess but that leads to ...

Q. What if I see someone posting content I've created?

A. If someone has copied your work, please use the DMCA takedown notice.

If there is an actual statement or clause that definitively states that someone can modify your mod and use it as their own I'm not seeing it.

Here's an article from earlier describing how this came about http://www.destructoid.com/the-first-paid-skyrim-mod-has-been-pulled-290924.phtml

That stuff with the DMCA was added after shit blew up.

Ok so is it really "open game" or can someone have a mod pulled?

Because what I see is that someone tried to do this, a claim from a modder that steam said certain things are "open game" (which may or may not be true as we don't see the correspondence and we don't know if this is some CS rep that hasn't had the appropriate training) and the mod was subsequently removed which means that someone can claim "shenanigans" and actually have the offending mod removed.

Which then leads us back to "you can't use another's work without permission".

Thank you for the link.

I think that the Steam's claim was that it's open game to have mod depend on another mod.

So you're not allowed to take anything from other person's mod, but if person A has installed mod X on his computer, you are allowed to sell him mod Y that mods mod X.

From legal point of view it's easy to argue that since A has license to use mod X he can even purchase paid updates for it.

I wonder if Steam and Bethesda are kind of digging their own hole in this legal question though. The same logic that Bethesda uses to take a cut out of all Steam sales could be used to argue that modding other mods for profit isn't allowed.

Not charging for a mod doesn't mean that people right now won't take your work, repackage it, and distribute it somewhere else for money. Nexus isn't free, but no one is bitching about that. You have to pay them $2 at a minimum, $5 monthly plans, up to "lifetime" memberships for $75 lump sums. Not only that they generate ad revenue. If half of all PC Skyrim owners paid the minimum fee to access those mods that is just under $3M. That doesn't include ad and higher tier membership revenue. How much of that goes to the modders?

Downloading mods from Nexus has always been free.

Well, it's not free exactly.

You either pay money to be a member or you are subjected to advertisements. Granted "you" are not being charged but you are participating in the website's system of making money. They don't exist without money and they get their money from ad revenue or from members.

It's not free for files over 2MB, those rated as being "mature" content, and such.

If you have an account you can download mods over 2 mb. I do all the time. I don't pay a membership fee but I do subject myself to their advertisements.

Or maybe I'm mistaken about their size (I doubt it). Point me toward a nexus mod that you believe requires direct payment and I'll test it.

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/607/?tab=2&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fskyrim%2Fajax%2Fmodfiles%2F%3Fid%3D607&pUp=1

http://www.nexusmods.com/stateofdecay/mods/73/?tab=2&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fstateofdecay%2Fajax%2Fmodfiles%2F%3Fid%3D73&pUp=1

Just click manually download without logging in. Why the need to login? So they can redirect you to their membership page where they push payment options in your face worse than any free to play game.

Anyway, if you don't create an account you can't download them. If it's free why have an account unless they're going to monetize off of you.

You can download all those files for free.

They are pushing their paid options on your face, just like many F2P games do, but just like many F2P games do there's also a free option.

Asking for ID is common practise. Companies like Blizzard and Facebook do it too when they think your identity is uncertain.

I am upgrading from a Geforce 580 GTX.

Both an AMD 270 and a 750ti are slower than a GTX 580. Going with your suggested build you will end up with a slow PC gaming wise than you already have.

I think that AMD 270 is an upgrade from 580 GTX. Geforce 750 TI is not.

In any case, even AMD 270 is so small upgrade that it's not really worth upgrading. With 1 500 euros you should be able to buy something much better than AMD 270 for gaming.

If you've got GTX 580, what are the rest of the specs on your old computer? It sounds like a computer that should still run nearly any game in existence, and if it's not maybe you could just switch one part to better instead of buying a complete computer.

If the computer has that much RAM, then I'd suggest looking for other options. Even R9 270 is a budged level gaming card for a cheap gaming computer, if the computer offered by Dell isn't cheap then don't buy it at all.

Driver support on Radon card might be a bit worse than for NVidia card, but the difference is so small it doesn't matter. NVidia or AMD doesn't matter, just pick the graphic card that offers best performance per dollar.

If you prefer NVidia and were assembling a computer yourself, you could buy a NVidia card as well as Radeon card. At that price range both manufacturers have good cards available. If Dell is limiting your choice and your options are Feforce 750 TI or R9 270, then definitely pick R9 270 for a gaming computer. It offers a lot more performance than 750 TI.

I wonder what this "company" is doing is even legal

You are allowed to sell anything at any price as long as you tell people honestly what you're selling. It may be a rip-off, but it's completely legal as long as the seller gives enough info that the buyer understands what he is purchasing and what price he has to pay.
