You managed to switch operating system?

Does that mean you got through Windows 7 installation without crashes?

Different people like different keyboards. If he plays any more seriously, he's likely to have his own preferences about what kind of keyboard he likes, and you'll have to ask him before making the purchase. Otherwise you'll just end up buying something that he won't use.

Upgrade query.

SSD is a quality of life -upgrade: If you get one, the computer will start faster, programs will launch faster, loading screen, zone transitions, and all other places when the computer will have to load something from hard disk will go faster.

But it will not increase your FPS or allow you to use better graphic settings. If you want that, then you'll need to upgrade your graphic card and/or processor.

EDIT: I'd recommend getting an SSD, the computer will feel much better to use after getting one.

Would the game give achievements for large underwear collections?

Those people who make maps/track spawn times should be countered by having random enough spawn times and locations.

For programming you'll want a laptop with good keyboard, enough battery life that you won't have to stress about it, and possibility to attach two external monitors. Performance is not really an issue, but if you use it in school and switch a lot between lessons you might want to get SSD for faster boot times and program launch times.

You should get a laptop with as large screen as you're prepared to carry. The larger it is, the better it's to work with, plus large laptops will often have better keyboards too.

Well this turned out more entertaining than I expected ;)

In regards to the person asking if I needed a new monitor,

I am sure there is better than the one I have as I have had it for about 3-4 years and it was a lower priced one at about 320ish if I recall correctly. It is a larger sized one at 29" and I would not go lower than that due to the distance from my chair to where it sits and the condition of my eyesight.

I just noticed a nice one but not sure if it would be good for gaming. What do you guys think of this one?

or is there another under $500 monitor you would recommend more in a 29+ size?

Again thanks for the advice guys.

Personally I wouldn't buy that monitor for gaming because it's ultra-widescreen (21:9). A normal 27 inch widescreen monitor (16:9) has about the same screen size as the screen is taller, and I find that it's better suited for MMOs to have a bit taller screen than to have a really wide screen.

But that's my personal opinion, and it's likely that many people here disagree.

Radeon to Nvidia

And how is that an upgrade?  Switching from one particular video card to another can be an upgrade, but just switching brand names for the sake of switching brand names is as likely to be a downgrade as an upgrade.

If you really want specifics: Radeon R9 270X to GeForce GTX 760

However, R9 290 is faster than GTX 760.

If GTX 760 being faster than R9 270X proves that switching from Radeon to NVidia is improvement, then by the same logic R9 290 being faster than GTX 760 proves that switching from NVidia to Radeon is also an improvement. Using your logic we can prove that switching video cards from one brand to another and back we can improve the video performance infinitely.

I'm not disagreeing with your claim that NVidia makes the fastests cards currently available. Only with your claim that it would somehow make all NVidia cards better than Radeon cards. There's no single best brand, and when buying you have to look at what both brands have to offer, then make a decision based on that.

EDIT: OP, your system look so good that it's hard to see any need to upgrade, especially for MMOs which usually don't use the latest graphic tricks anyway. If you have extra money, maybe you could consider buying a better monitor, keyboard, or mouse, or something like that.

Or maybe you could just spend it on something not related to computers at all. If you already get stable framerate of 60 in your games, and have SSD for fast loading times, upgrading now would be an overkill. And when you don't need an upgrade now, it's better not to upgrade for future since components will be cheaper and faster in the future.

EDIT 2: Or maybe you could buy some cooling system that makes a less noise to make your computer quieter if you feel an urge to open the case and start switching components around.

A very important part of the game is losing to others. Whether it's getting killed in PvP situation, or failing to beat a challenge that others have beaten, in MMO you're more or less comparing yourself to others and trying to match them or beat them. If you can't do it now, you'll try to do better in the future.

If you start setting self-limitations that really affect gameplay, you'll lose that competition. You still want to win as much as you used to, but now you realize that because of your rules there's no way to do that. Instead of trying harder you'll start hating yourself for setting those rules. It's not fun.

I'm all for a difficulty setting if the games would allow players to choose difficulty settings. But in MMO it should be coded to the game mechanisms, or at least a server-wide ruleset.

I think it's really needed legislation.

If you look at "free" games today, there are games like Wizard 101 telling that it's a "free online game for kids and adults to play", when in truth there is no way to proceed from starter areas unless you pay for the game. I'm old enough to remember the time when small free samples of the game were called "demos" or "trials", but now that are called "free games" to get more attention.

The gaming industry has failed, and because of that the legislation needs to step in and make sure that games start informing people of the costs a bit better.

- Replacing grinding with a procedurally generated environment with lots of walking. The game will have lots of dynamic events and many sandbox elements in place that you can do along the way, as well as procedurally generating stuff that makes you have to tactically approach. Essentially the landscape will be MASSIVE, and there will be a lot of walking (days, weeks, etc) to draw out gameplay which is essentially what grinding does.

Then walking would be new grinding, and it's even more boring than grinding mobs. And forming groups with friends would require so much effort it would one of the worst gaming mechanisms ever.

- Action combat based on combo's- I.E. say you have basic "building block" abilities on your hotbar, kick, punch, dodge, etc, and when used together form combo attacks. Potentially an infinite amount of attacks in this way.

That kind of system would be really hard to do well in an MMO environment with all the lag, and I think the potential audience who wants this kind of combat in MMO style world is really small.

- Open world PvP, however with an optional toggle that requires the person to "pay into" a faction with a number of resources to get this temporary status. The cost will be hefty so as to make sure that only people really willing to impede their progress if they do it continuously.

Could you clarify what you mean? Paying for the priviledge of attacking other players in open world? Or paying for faction to get immunity from attackers? Or something other?

- The above would be one server type, another would be a server with much enhanced and much more dangerous PvE. Not so much health and damage wise but more in terms of how well the A.I. reacts. This will come with little to no PvP, although a switch similar to WoW may be provided.

This would likely cause a huge imbalance since you're talking about server advancement. Then easymode -server would progress through content more quickly.

- An optional server type where "survivalism" is enabled as well as many skill lines for survivalism from detailed and general ones to basic damage/debuff modifier skill lines like "cold water swimming endurance" and such.

Too many server types.

- The difficulty of the area being determined by how far the server has explored the area around the center where everybody starts. Farther out will become increasingly more difficult until it becomes an impenetrable wall of difficulty until earlier areas are fully explored, while as more is explored, areas closer to the center become easier and the resources from them get more abundant. Essentially a "tier" system but one procedurally generated and influenced by the overall servers dedication.

What does one need to do to explore? Walk more? Daily quest grind? Why does exploring early level areas affect the difficulty of other areas anyway? It makes sense that the area being explored changes, but it doesn't make sense that it has so large impact on other areas.

-Non-static monster spawns. Monsters roam around their "biome", similar to Minecraft, and in fact actively seek players and other monsters they may be of "enemy factions" so you'd be able to see, say, and orc fighting an elf before the orc kills the elf and turns on you. Part of surviving farther away from the center would involve trying to make yourself the least noticeable, and having more people in those parts would in fact draw an exponential increase of monster meaning that the farther out you go, the more solo-friendly it gets.

You just told that the farther people go, the more dangerous it gets. Having the most dangerous content tackled solo -only due to monster attention makes little sense. Are you trying to create an MMO that encourages elite players to solo -walk so far away they won't ever see another player during the whole game.

- Being the first to do a dungeon or raid guarantees your group will get every possible drop, including one-of-a-kind unique items that increase in stats with the progression of the server. Also any member of the server first to do a dungeon or raid will be able to sell the "memories" of it in some fashion so that others can do the dungeon. Dungeons do not respawn their NPC's in the actual physical world and once done can only be repeated in that memory system. But they can spawn entirely new opponents.

Unique item sounds cool, but about the memory system: Do top-end players really need another money automat to give them further advantage over regular players?

- Little to no initial customization. One predefined race (not human), and your body type is randomly generated however will fall within a medium. Customization would be done later by actually doing things that would make you look a certain way; i.e. toggle-able dynamic hair growth, muscle increase from strength related activities, etc.

So all fighters should be muscular guys and wizards lean guys? I think people should be allowed to freely customize their character and be unique, and making a mechanisms that prevents it would be bad idea.

- Uncapped preparation benefits. For example, one could sharpen a sword before combat in a quick animation, and it might get a +3% boost in damage. Say if this person does it for 15 minutes in a short mini-game like thing, it might get a 10% boost. The longer the person does it, the more of a boost it gets, but the smaller the boost gets. 30 minutes might be 15%, an hour 16%, etc. It'll get smaller and smaller but never stop. The same for cooking, brewing potions, etc.

It's my honest opinion, that game mechanisms should reward playing. This one rewards watching a movie while your character is preparing for something. Or think about top-end raid: A whole guild coordinating about going AFK for a couple of hours.

- Destructible terrain, at least in the form of ground. This would/could be utilized for procedurally generated veins of ore and gems, and used to mark specific special locations like dungeon entrances, treasure, etc.

Good idea if you use procedural world. Normally I'd also suggest housing and terraforming, but due to walking times a housing might be bad idea: Too much grinding to visit your house.

If you don't understand much about computers, you could try going to some small computer store and tell your wish there. They could at least sell you a computer that's built for gaming, instead of computers built for running Office and browsing web that you have listed on your OP post.

I would imagine you would dread the number of spears called [The Deflowerer] or clubs called [Nutcracker] :))

I'd just use a [Chasity Belt] to protect myself from those.

Those names would at least have to be imaginative, and would offer good opportunities to laugh at. Whereas I find re-using famous heroes' names mostly pathetic.

What you need to do to make your MMO to work as intended:

1. Know what average programmers/artists/etc. can make with a computer

2. Know what resources you'll have at your disposal when making your MMO

3. Adjust your intentions so that they don't exceed 1. or 2.

I dread the number of [Bow of Legolas] that would result if people were able to name items/make descriptions.

Hon the kickstarter was never intended to be their only funding... Camelot Unchained did the same thing. Both intend to either get a publisher if they have to or do on-site donations.

I think it is amazing how so many here make assumptions that make no sense.  Of course you cannot make an MMO with $800k they say in the FAQ on the kickstarter they will reach out for alternative funding including on-site funding.

Camelot Unchained devs were able to promise that they'd have 5 million dollars for the game development if the Kickstarter was funded.

Pantheon devs admit that they need other sources of income, but are unable or unwilling to tell how they are going to get them.

That's why I think Camelot Unchained devs are honestly trying to develop a game, whereas Pantheon devs are trying to commit a fraud without realistic chance of delivering their promises.

It depends on your graphic card. If you've got a graphic card that was once good, and can buy similar used card cheap enough, then it might be worth getting SLI.

But if you don't have good enough PSU, or if the card was mediocre to start with, or if there are no cheap used cards available, then it's likely better to just buy a new card.

EDIT: If you use the computer a lot, also take into account the power usage of two old cards running crossfire compared to a new card. It's not worth saving 10$ in graphic card if you end up paying that much more in power used /EDIT

I don't think that exclusive cosmetic items are bad. One time only cosmetic pre-order item, event rewards (whether real-life events like Blizzcon or in-game events), and such are something that makes the gameworld a lot more diverse and fun.

Only when exclusivity starts meaning exclusive skills, stat bonuses, or something that gives more than just feeling 'I'm cool' it's starting to be a bad thing.

My guess is that it's a fraud.

In their Kickstarter campaign they are promising the game as one of their Kickstarter rewards, and Kickstarter's terms of use require them to either fulfill that promise to backers or refund the money. Yet, in the same Kickstarter project pages they admit themselves that they can't make the MMO with just 800 000$ even if the Kickstarter were successful.

They only explain that they "will visit other funding opportunities"  if crowdfunding won't get them a lot more than 800 000$, without revealing any more detailed info about what other funding opportunities they have. One would think, that if they'd have other funding opportunities they'd advertise it a bit more so that backers would trust that the project gets finished. I think they don't really know how to get the rest of the funding if Kickstarter doesn't exceed its goal.

If the Kickstarter were successful, and they'd start spending that 800 000$ after admitting themselves that they won't be able to finish the project and deliver the product with just that money, they'd get quickly into a situation where they can't either deliver the sold game nor refund the money as it's spent. That would be against the agreement, and when done knowing that the project has no realistic chance of being successful it would be a fraud.

Who, or what, is Mullah Ubaidullah Akhund? I even tried googling, but can't find out what he/she/it has to do with ESO.
