If it's not a big issue, then they should keep as it was because THEY SOLD IT! Just last month they advertised it in their newsletter, then they decided to not deliver it.

Divinity: Original Sin

These two are the only ones I can think of that were released and turned out to be good games. They were both made by established game studios.

Trove isn't an indie game... It was developed and published by Trion.

Divinity: Original Sin isn't either. I thought we were talking about all crowd funded games. Trove did a lot of crowd funding using their own website during alpha.

A person who wants to be called a role player.

I looks like on the the perks for those who buy their more expensive founders packs is improved beacon range.

It also looks like beacons are on the list of features that they are planning, but will implement only if they get more funding.

At least they're honestly admitting that they're unable to deliver the product they're selling unless they get a lot more funding.

The game is not pay to win, because as of yet there is no game. No game means that you can't win yet. Victory being impossible means that it's not a pay to win game.

It might be pay to win game once it's released but that's another matter.

OP there are certain people, a lot actually that you can trust in this section.

Quizzical and Ridelynn are especially trustworthy. When someone disagrees with either of them, he's very likely wrong.

...That includes the times I've disagreed with Quizzical in some of the threads.

Add case up to your likehood. Feel free to spent extra for 97 MB if further upgrade is your concern or w/e you wish to adjust to fit your preference and wallet.

Do I read that wrong, or did you just suggest a computer built with only 1 RAM module?

When it comes to the AMD's, I do find it hard to wrap my head around the "8" cores.  I guess I just don't get how AMD makes a 8 core chip and Intel makes 4 core chips and they perform about the same from what I've heard.

AMD's 8 core chip might be faster than Intel's 4 core in theory, but the issue is, games aren't able to effectively distribute their processing load to that many cores. If the game demands that a single thread (assigned always to just a single core) must do 25% of CPU jobs, then it doesn't matter how many other cores you have the rest can do max. 75%, and if you've got more than 4 cores total they'll just sit idle while waiting for the core that one core that has to do 25% of processing jobs.

Games are slowly getting better and better to utilize more and more cores. At the moment they can use 2 cores really well, many of the modern games can use 4 cores well enough, but after that very few games can use the added cores effectively and increasing the number of cores will increase the game performance only a little.

At the moment Intel's single core speed is superior to AMDs, whereas AMD seems to be really good at placing many cores into a processor cheaply.

If you want really cheap gaming processor, AMD's processors are probably the best because at cheap prices Intel offers only i3 which has 2 cores. Games can use more than that.

If you're willing to pay a bit more, Intel i5 with 4 cores will be better for gaming than anything that AMD can offer, because its cores are much faster than AMD's and there are enough cores that only few games could use more effectively.

Intel i7 offers a little more gaming performance than i5, but not that much because very few games can really utilize that many cores. It's not a bad purchase if you have money to burn, it's the best performance you can get and in future it's likely games will be able to use its extra cores even better. But at the moment it's not really worth it and i5 offers much more performance per dollar.

I don't like too much character customization because I don't want to optimize too much. I want there to be some decisions, but I don't want to end up in situations where I have to pick between more damage so that I'm better in a group or more survivability so that I'm better solo. Those kind of decisions don't increase my options, it's a decision that's going to decrease my options for the rest of the game.

4) It's true that only few games are able to properly use more than 4 threads, but we're talking about 2 cores vs. 6 cores. Your previous posts suggests that you think hyperthreading will somehow magically make the 2 cores to perform as fast as 4 cores would. That's not true, i3 still has only 2 cores and hyperthreading is just a way to utilize those 2 cores better.

4) Maybe you should look up what Hyperthreading actually is because it does precisely that magic - provides 2 logical processors per core = 4 threads, just like any Quad core. While not as powerful, it can process multithreaded operations like any multicore cpu.

I did not claim that the hyperthreading couldn't run 4 threads in 2 cores. The issue is, it does not double the processing speed of those cores. It might increase it 20% since running 2 threads at once means the processor can run other thread when it has to wait for something about the other thread. If hyperthreading increases the speed 20% compared to executing just a single thread, that's just 60% of processor's single-thread execution speed to each of the threads when both have a lot of stuff. Compared to having 4 cores and 100% of processor's single-thread execution speed for all of them.

Intel has massive advantage on single-thread execution speed, but I think no so massive that you should just take 2 of intel's cores against 6 of AMD's.

EDIT: But if one can afford i5, then I think that's better for gaming than anything that AMD can offer.

EDIT2: Look at the system requirements on Steam.

-Middle-Earth Shadow of Mordor: Processor: Intel Core i5-750, 2.67 GHz | AMD Phenom II X4 965, 3.4 GHz

-Far Cry 4: Processor: 2.6 GHz Intel® Core™ i5-750 or 3.2 GHz AMD Phenom™ II X4 955

-The Crew: Intel Core2 Quad Q9300 @ 2.5 GHz or AMD Athlon II X4 620 @ 2.6 GHz (or better)

Some of the new games are starting to ask for Intel i5 in their minimum requirements. That's why I think now it's the time to try to get more cores than i3 has to offer

there u go its like 9 fps difference. between a i3 and a i5. If 9 fps is worth 100+ dollars to you than go for it. I can say this if you took the 100 bucks and went from a 660 to a 670 you could get more fps than going from a i3 to a i5

That review was from the beginning of 2013. Back then I would have probably said that i3 is just fine for gaming.

Technology evolves and for the past year we've had quite large number of games asking for more cores. If you're building a computer that should last a couple of years into the future, more cores than just 2 would be good investment.

Two cores for the price of six, you say?  What could possibly go wrong?

As I already told you: Nothing.

You spread false info and empty speculations.

1) i3 isn't substantially more expensive - there is about 10% difference in price.
2) Intel board is definitely not more expensive.
3) Yes, FX-6300 is definitely slower in per thread/core performance.
4) There aren't really any games that would sensibly utilize more than 4 threads and won't be for a long time.
5) Even if so, the bottleneck will occur on GPU long before than CPU - you won't notice the 100 USD difference in CPU once you get above certain, fairly low CPU power but you will damn make notice a difference in 100 USD spent on GPU.
6) FX-6300 is completely ill advice, it is a dead end platform.

As always with your posts - less theory, more practical application.

1 & 2) Intel boards are a bit more expensive. Add that to good i3 models usually being more expensive. That adds up to i3 being more expensive, maybe only something like 25$ for the package but it's money that could be spent elsewhere.

It's unknown how many games will have more than 4 threads some years in the future, but it's guaranteed that games will become slowly better at utilizing multiple threads and FX-6300's advantage over i3 will grow.

5) If that's true, then the AMD suggested by Quizzical is better because it's cheaper.

6) It's true that i3 has the advantage of being able to upgrade to i5 while keeping the same motherboard.

Imo, neither is.

First off, there is no dedicated graphics card.
Second, you waste money on parts you need not - pointless size of RAM, excessive CPU power.

My plan would be to upgrade the video card 2-3 years down the line.  I want this computer to be viable for as long as possible, so the extra RAM and Processor power would allow me to play games 5+ years down the line.

That plan is completely ridiculous:

1. Those integrated graphic cards aren't able to run many of the new games properly now, today. Basically your plan is to buy a gaming computer in order to be unable to play games.

2. Processor, RAM and GPU tech keeps evolving so quickly that purchasing something you don't use now for the future is almost never cost-effective. Get a balanced package that you can use now, use it for as long as you're able, then see what you need to upgrade.

You should also consider getting SSD hard disk if you can afford it.

How is the price difference so large? You can get a brand new i5 usually at less than 300$.

If you want to get cheap computer that runs all the games, you could do it just by switching graphic card to that one.

If you want to get a good gaming computer and have the money, then you should upgrade everything.

I'd say that both are equally viable solutions and it's a question about how much money you're willing to spend.

EDIT: That case looks like it would have plenty of space for a graphic card. If it's a card that's too big for your case, likely it draws so much power that your power supply couldn't support it anyway /EDIT

Finish what you started and promised! Dont waste the money on new projects while the old one is barely playable. Damn, one more early access incomming...

Exactly.  This studio seems to think that putting half finished games out there on the marketplace is the way to make money.

Studios can't make 2 games?

It's not that they can't make, it's that they often decide to not finish them.

Once early access game's initial good sales are over, development starts costing more money then the game brings in. At that point it's more profitable to give the early access game only minimum development with the intention of making the game look like it's worked on until so much time has passed that no-one cares any more, so that you'll never have to really finish the game and can get away with intentionally delivering a subpar product.

A small dev team publishing another product means usually that they've made the decision to never finish the first early access game they sold.

I think single-player games are much more fun playing solo: An MMO is always a compromise between fun gameplay for the individual and what's required to have a hundred people running around the same world real-time. Things like single-handedly changing the world, overpowered or imbalanced but fun game mechanics, or ability to alter the speed of game-time can't happen in MMO because of other players around.

An MMO is good while played with others, but imho when you're playing alone a single-player game is much better.

My idle temps are rather high actually. 53 on the first core, 54 on the second, 55 on the third, and 56 on the fourth, I'm using HW Monitor to watch as for some reason CoreTemp actually makes me crash.  I ran Prime95 for a minute and in that minute all cores reached at least 99 degrees with 2 of them actually reaching a straight hundred.

Those temps are way higher than they should be. Have you checked that your current CPU fan is functioning?

Maybe checking if your current fan works isn't that important since you've already ordered a replacement fan. Just wait for it and replace the fan with a better one, and I'd suggest avoiding running anything that heats your processor to more than 80 Celsius. The processor can break if it's run too hot, and yours is running way too hot.
