Runescape is the most popular browser MMO. Nadirim is upcoming and looks pretty good. |

The lack of cross-platform support is utter, utter bullshit. I already bought a lifetime membership, so am I supposed to do that again? Whatever. Same goes for DCUO. Way to half-ass it, Sony. |

Just wondering how a duo can handle content on the way to max level? The wife and I are looking for a game to play... I don't want anything WoW-like, and she doesn't want anything Darkfall-like. Seems that Vanguard might be a good fit, but I want to make sure that we can play the game without having to try to find other group members... Also, are there any available housing plots? I know the population is dead, but I'm wondering if it's like UO where people pay just to keep their pixels and never actually log in. Thanks |

MMO IP you'd love to see, but never will?

A true to the source Shadowrun would be excellent. Maybe in 10 years we'll have the computer power to simulate a living, breathing cityscape. |

I have some brief but regular downtime at work and I have found myself looking for a browser game to play. Here's what I'd like: - Space themed preferably - Not just a strategy game... I prefer to level a character, not an empire - Nice interface, decent graphics - Something I can check in on every once in a while and play for a few clicks, then do more work Anything out there fit this description? |

Thanks for the replies. I played WAR at launch having been a DAOC fan. I may try it again and see what it's like. I'll also take FFXI out for a spin and see how that goes. |

One of my favorite games was DAOC, where the quests were pretty much optional. Grinding through mobs and camping was a viable (and sometimes the best) way to gain levels. It was good practice to master the group dynamics needed to go RvR later. I know the industry has changed. Now games like LOTRO have you running back and forth between two or three spots for hours running quest objectives. I hate that. I want to kill shit, not deliver letters or go back to the same spot 4 times! My favorite games were of the old-school mentality. UO and DAOC were the apples of my eye. But I've really worn these games out, and it seems like every new game I try is just a novelty, not a long term commitment. I've tried some of the "Asian grind-fest" games and I usually can't get over the art direction. UO and DAOC were very based in reality (note I said WERE). When I'm running around some doe-eyed androgynous spikey haired fellah weilding a sword that is 6 feet long with one hand, it really takes me out of the game. The group dynamics of DAOC were legendary, and population is important to me. So here's the rundown: 1) PVE Camping w/ Optional Quests 2) Non-Anime Art Direction 3) An End Game (Group PvP/RvR is good) 4) Real Group Dynamics (everyone plays a role) 5) Decent population So....... any suggestions? |

Well, UO isn't F2P, which was one of his criteria. Plus, he'd have to play on the Siege Perilous shard to get the full PVP aspect, and that shard is suffering badly for population. Most players nowadays are in the PVE part of the game, far away from the PVPers. And yeah, 98% of the private shards are utter shite. But there are a few standouts. |

I think you should check out one of the more populated UO player run servers. Yeah, the graphics are old, but they are quality. If you go with a "Classic" UO time-period, then you won't be looking at stupid neon colors and such. UO meets every single criteria you made, except for the graphics one. The learning curve is pretty high, but if you spend the time the rewards are great. Full world PVP, full looting, skill based, the ability to play solo or in groups. Honestly, try to get past the graphic and check it out. PM me if you want some suggestions on where to look. |

Regnum Online is very similar to DAOC. Keep your expectations in check though, as it is an indie game. Otherwise, maybe Aika? I think they have 5 nations total. |

Might wanna give Runescape a try if you haven't already. Otherwise, I dunno. Too bad Dungeon Runners shut down. That game was so much fun, and about as casual as you could get. NC Soft sucks ass for closing games that still have potential. |

Vague is the right word. That request is wide open, my friend. Just sort the games list by rating and pick something you haven't tried yet. Not sure what else to suggest. You're going to have to look into each title and see if it peaks your interest. |

One came out a while back. I think it was called Shadow of Legend. They spammed here pretty hard for a long while to get their game rating up way higher than it deserved. I played the closed beta and thought the game had potential, but I ended up not being really happy with it. I think they did some server merges last year. No idea if it is populated at all, but you might want to check it out. It only played on a limited amount of phones... but they also have a PC client (which is what I played). |

I'm guessing we're never going to see it happen? Any news at all from Funcom lately? |

I would also cast a vote for Shadowrun, but it would be VERY hard to pull off right. Harry Potter Online was actually started by Origin Systems and was later canceled. They were also working on Wing Commander Online (which would be a helluva thing!) I think most of those guys ended up working on Jump to Lightspeed, or whatever it was called, for SWG. Otherwise, I dunno. Hopefully Elderscrolls Online is being worked on. If Rockstar made a next-level MMO out of GTA, that would probably be pretty amazing. |

After playing MMOs for close to 15 years, I finally decided to give Runescape a try while stuck with a sorta crappy laptop and nothing else to do for a while. I was impressed. The game seems pretty deep and interesting. I don't know if it's true that most of the playerbase are young children, but I certainly hope not. It would be nice to find some adults who play... I went with world 42, the RP server, in hopes that the maturity level would be higher, but I haven't really done any socializing yet. I don't have much time to play games anymore, so the price is right and the casual/solo approach is working really well for me so far. I dunno how I'll feel next week or next month, but right now I'm pretty sold on Runescape. |

Try Ultima Online. Use the new Enhanced Client for better play on big monitors (unless you are still rocking the 15" CRT). Steep learning curve, but an amazing game at it's core. |

AOC still has some life left in it. They are doing pretty well. Vanguard is a freaking excellent game with next to no one playing. SOE has mistreated that game badly. I enjoyed my time in EQ2 much more than LOTRO. I found the combat in LOTRO to be incredibly boring. Both game suffer from the quest grind... running around back and forth to complete objectives, but LOTRO was the only MMO that I literally fell asleep playing (and it wasn't because of some marathon session). Definitely try the trials before dropping the cash. |
