Pure Rpgs are a minority in single/multi player games and soon they will be a minority in mmos.

To me mmo means you have something to fight for....which comes from 10six my first mmo.

I OWNED the bases, i built the bases, i defended the bases, and i took peoples bases.

Even rpgs can do this look at  perfect world aoc lineage 2 ..at the end game there is something to fight for.

Mmo's will evolve passed char customization and pretty armor, I just hope it leans toward conquering the world and the ecomony. I do like fps view more but in the end its just a view, they can make it 3rd person and still be fast paced and fun.

I do play regular fps games when im bored, but they are a time killer nothing i can play for more than a year.

Which 3 did ya play ill tell ya why i liked them...and why you shouldnt..lol

Oh dear Oh dear.

Seems like MarL might have one or two issues.

Calm down guy. I like my games ... why do you get so burned if I like what you don't.

and I don't need you to tell me what not to play - I can get that kind of advice from my Four year old Niece

Really though I play MMO's, heres some games i do like 10six planetside wwiionline endless ages neocron eve HUXLEY . I even played wow , but i dont like it now (it is a good game though). I try every game, I suffer through the levels to get to the fun stuff. I know levels are a trick to get people to play longer and i hope more people figure that out. Regular multiplayer games just dont do it for me anymore although savage is the step in the right direction.(its different every game since you build the base yet still fast paced)

Im hoping soon you wont belong here

When you joined is no indication of if your in the right place mate, times change

The list you give there ( I have time in three of them ) only seems to make me feel even more sure that you are a bit confused as to what you want.

Spend a year in hardline FPS adrenaline blasts and then see how the average MMO feels.

I promise you it will feel like a slow crap .... and yet .... MMORPG's can be fun. I think it might be something to do with actually communicating with people rather than making a snap choice to "Fire or Hold".

Whatever - play to enjoy man, and don't wish me me gone who would you talk to ?

Leveling is a treadmill to me and its never fun, I dont like any quests ever ( although sometimes its faster to lvl if ya do them). So by rushing through im trying to get to the fun stuff...

I dont really care about stories either, if i want a story ill read a book or watch a movie, I want combat action in a game.

Well nobody in real wants to get to 75 because in real life your not tougher at 75 your just old  and you dont get to seige stuff and kill people.

Are you sure your in the right place?

If you like to go up against real people in 1 on 1 without any need for background or storyline, then games like

Counterstrike - www.steamgames.com/v/index.php

Team Fortress 2 - www.teamfortress2fort.com/

and Battlefield 2 - www.bf2.org/

might be more for you ?

All good games ... all can use a few more targets

p.s. I apologise for the crap linkage but things have got a lot more complex since I was last here

Why would you buy a game for 50 $ and then grind the whole day, killing the most xp-efficient mob 24/7 ?

Do the quests, read the dialogs, enjoy the background story, and it will take you months to get there, hundreds of hours of entertainment instead of few days mindless grinding.

Never understood why someone would pay 50$ for the game, then pay even more so that someone else plays it to lvl 80. And then what, "enjoy" the game at 80 ?

We think the same way but we seem to be in a minority

Personally the first thing I do with a new game is turn off the exp bar, mini-map and anything else that purports to "aid gameplay"

If I am totally stuck on something then I will take a look at the map or delete the quest and re-take it to read the dialogue again to see if I missed something the first time.

This all means that I level very slowly but when I reach level cap I haven't missed much and I get a genuine sense of achievement from having played the game rather than raced to the end.

To me that is what MMORPGS are about.

They are supposed to be an alternative life in a fantasy world.

No one is rushing through real life to be 75 years old in order to see what life is like are they ?

Slow down folks - take time to look around

You do realise that you don't have to level in 10 days ?

I have been playing for about six weeks and my highest level is 35. I take my time to look around, explore, read the quests etc etc.

I have never understood the "race to level cap" mentality.

Play at your own pace and if you are the type of player who needs to rush then you have to accept the fact that no game lasts long if your power gaming.

Hi all.

I was in TR Beta and have decided to take a look at it again now.

I assume the servers are all the same ( not PvP or PvE etc ) and if so which would you recommend I start on?

Thanks for any replies

Vista is a far superior product to XP in every way.The real problem is with drivers.Add into the fold the BS that goes with LAPTOP drivers and it really gets bad.

I do understand that bad drivers caused me to lose net connection about once every 5 hours, and the computer not to shut properly.

It feels strange that bad drivers caused all my user data to be corrupted so that Vista needed to reset it but even that is possible.

But it's very hard to understand, that bad drivers caused Vista's default zip program to unzip 10 times slower than 3rd party zip program, or that bad drivers prevented the product activation from working.

And I absolutely refuse to understand, that bad drivers prevented me from turning off fuction "reset screen brightness every time laptop lid is closed and reopened".

I just told about my experience with Vista, using a laptop wich was designed to support Vista and came with Vista installed on it. And while I believe that all the problems will be eventually solved and repaired, at its current state I can't recommend Vista to anyone.

PS. Remember that also drivers are essential part of the OS. You can't ignore problems with them if you want your computer to work properly.

Sorry to hear you had so many probs vrika.

Data corruption most deffinately is not a vista problem.

Your saying an OS can't corrupt data ?

Unpacking files really is never a part of any OS

You do know what an OS does don't you ?

That sorta sounds more like a BIOS issue.

Well, either the BIOS or the wicked pixies.

Oh and losing internet connection again has nothing to do with vista.

I can go no further.

Basically boys and girls it would seem that the OS has nothing to do with anything.

Tomorrow we will discuss how Aliens are running the world and how 9/11 was a Chinese plot to destabalise the Nigerian governments attempt to corner the Mexican Mackerel Market.

Don't do that man, just run what works for you and try to understand that not everyone is as obsessive about PC OS's as you obviously are

XP does the job well enough. Vista does nothing more than apply a few "Go Faster Stripes" for the desperate attention seekers.

In a couple of years Vista will be the sensible choice but at the moment it is nowhere near as safe as XP.

Not really, most of the posters in here are just tech feaks unable to accept that it's possible to play games without the fastest system in existence.

Very well said.

Bottom line to the OP is that either XP or Vista will do the job.

XP may be a bit more stable due to it's age.

Vista may give you a performance increase.

The problem is that both come from Micro$oft who put profit before product so neither can be 100% recommendable but either should do the job ....... just.

I'm building a new PC for my Dad next week and I've decided to stick with XP Home.

Vista just doesn't seem to offer any significant advantages to me.

DX10 is nice but it's going to be a while yet before the majority of games use it and to be honest the difference isn't exactly jaw dropping.

Add to that the fact that XP runs pretty well these days and with SP3 early next year it should be good for a couple of years yet.

If you like to be an early adopter or just want to have the latest then go for Vista. I doubt if half the horror stories we hear are true and I know a few people who are more than happy with it, I just don't see the need yet

But as he bought the game 2 years ago it was probably just the standard game yes ?

In which case he will need the CC exp pack to get the few weapons if he really wants them.

I believe you still need CC to get access to some of the weapons and vehicles but the caves are open to all.

Who are you calling "Old" ya cheeky young whipersnapper ?

Hee hee, well that explains it then.

I am enjoying it again but I'm still no good at it.

My reactions aren't what they used to be but I do OK in a support role.

Thanks for the info

I am assuming that it is something like that.

Whatever - I am having a blast relearning how to play and still can't understand why there are so many Hack and Slash type MMO's but still only this one Sci-Fi style game

EDIT = I'd better clarify that last statement. I know there are Sci-Fi games like Neocron, Face of Mankind etc etc but none play like PS.

Hi all.

I decided to re-sub for a month or two so patched up to the latest version.

Imagine my suprise, delight even, when it just logged me straight in to the game.

I haven't clicked any re-sub button, no money has gone from my bank acct, I haven't been offered any free time.

Anyone know what's going on ?
