EVE has a long-term development plan, and if they actually stick to their claim about changing for the better here, then in the long-term, it will see no harmful effects from SW:ToR. Edit: You're also ignoring the fact that 4 years ago, CCP didn't have remotely close to this amount of income, and they still flourished. Yes they have other studios now, but this was not 'too late'. 1-2 months isn't going to make a difference in the long run. EVE's players will still remain loyal if things -actually- begin to change for the better. |

If anything, it means that you will get the most close-to-canon version of World of Darkness you could ever imagine. A few 'pretty' tech videos and pictures does not define a game. I don't even know where you get off trying to draw a connection between Twilight and Microtransactions. |

Intrepid pilots of New Eden! (Is CCP showing us it's belly?)
Jita (General) « EVE Online 9/25/11 11:50:58 AM
People are quick to jump on this as some sort of bad news or another lie, but how many other companies would actually release something like this? This is essentially CCP saying "We screwed up, and we're seeing the results of it. We're sorry." They focused on larger projects not related to EVE, or made stupid additions such as a cash shop that the players never asked for, and were largely against. They saw the backlash from this, as well as backlash against certain comments from people higher up in the company who didn't seem to have a clue what was going on in the playerbase. There has been a distinct lack of chatter about EVE lately on these forums, and I would imagine it's the same elsewhere. Perhaps CCP has realized that if they don't act now, their 'baby' could gradually fall by the wayside and they'll be left with a dying game and 2 unfinished products to show for it. I have no doubts that the people working on this game care about it greatly. Those lowly programmers and feature developers have poured years of work into EVE, and I won't believe that just because the higher ups want a few more dollars, that the people making features care any less about the game. This devblog isn't a solution, but it is a step in the right direction. CCP still has one of the 'coolest' MMOs on the market, with more depth and drama than anything else out there. Sure there are some issues, but if they realize it now and start working to fix those issues in order to keep EVE around for many more years, then maybe this is the start of something better. If they can straighten out internal issues and get a design plan going for the game that more closely matches what the players want for the game, then EVE could jump back from this easily in the long term. Words are words.. I get it. But it takes a certain quality to be able to say "We dropped the ball, and we want to win your trust back" |

Guarantee it would not have near the quality of setting as a World of Darkness MMO would have. WoD already has the potential for werewolves and mages in the future, and has a far richer backstory and setting than True Blood. True Blood has far too many 'overpowered' bits. It wouldn't become a balanced MMO easily at all. Meh.. World of Darkness is far more interesting and established. |

TF2 is incredible. Valve know how to please a core audience and keep their customers happy. I know that's not what your post is about, but I just had to toss that in here. |

Main thing to remember in this game is to find a good corp. If you're not happy with your current corp, find a new one. There are so many corps in-game that you can find one for every style of play. Also, don't confine yourself to just one style of play. Explore your options.. trade, pve, pvp, high-sec, low-sec, 0.0 warfare, wormholes. There's so much to do, it can be a bit overwhelming and you just won't know WHAT to do. Finding a good corp will help with this. And don't listen to the people who say you need X amount of SP to get into a good corp. I got into a good (veteran) 0.0 corp with barely 4mil SP, and they were a group of people who REALLY knew the game, and the corp had been around for about 3-4 years. You just have to look in the right places, and be genuine about what you want to get out of the game. |

The simple solution is to go play a different game. You're asking for such a major change that it would completely change the foundations that the game was created on. You think it makes sense, but you obviously fail to grasp a lot of the game's concepts, and one of EVE's biggest lessons is to 'adapt or die'. Well, you're not adapting, you're complaining. Go play a different game that actually caters to the style of play you are looking for. |

Did anyone notice CCP sneak in faster skill training for new players at extra cost?
Jita (General) « EVE Online 9/09/11 11:19:11 PM
Also, this was done because they removed the 'starting skills' where you choose your 'path' and such when creating a character. They made some changes and streamlined character creation. Instead of starting with a pool of skillpoints in skills which you had virtually no control over, they made new players train skills faster up to a certain point, so you could choose what skills you wanted yourself. You're twisting this like it's a bad thing, but as already said, it was never snuck in. It was a VERY well known change, and you're the first person I've seen complain about it. |

This is one reason I personally would put EVE Online on the top of my MMO's lists. At any point in the game, you can take part in content with players who have been around for YEARS, and still be useful. Not only that, but you don't need to worry about your friends being on different servers, as it is just ONE, HUGE server. It may take a little bit to get to where your friend is, but once there you can do anything with them. Want to go out and mine? Do sleepers? PvP? Run missions? One of you kills, the other one salvages, and you split the profit and turn in the shared mission. Easy as pie to play with your friends. |

Weekend beta may be cancelled. No beta for this weekend.
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 9/07/11 8:48:18 PM
I couldn't care less about this game one way or the other. It's not my cup of tea, but I don't wish death on it or any such thing. However, you realize this is just standard practice, right? This is the entire purpose of beta testing. It isn't so people can try out the 'final version' of a game before it's released. It is so that bugs and glaring issues can be fixed, and new builds of a game will be released consistently if a company is actually doing their work right. They're not redesigning the game here; they're fixing problems and doing what they SHOULD be doing. If you have any history beta testing games, you would realize that this is nothing in the grand scheme of things. It's just work as usual. Each build of a game will have less and less bugs, until they are satisfied that the remainder can be worked out by the live team. It's not so much 'starting a process over' as it is 'continuing a process they've been doing since beginning internal testing'. Fans should be pleased that a company decides to do further testing, as it will result in that much more 'complete' of a product when it is eventually released. It's unfortunate the current state of gaming is "NOW NOW NOW GIMME GIMME" |

Is the max level still 275? Besides, what's the theoretical limit w/ the 64-bit scoring system?
The Tavern (General) « Asheron's Call 8/28/11 2:40:00 PM
Irellevant. Level has -never- mattered in AC, since you can continue to raise your skills until they too are capped. Even at 126, you could continue to raise your skills until they reached the 4.-somethin billion cap, which has never changed. |

EVE PvP outcome is not determined by size. EVE is a game that has proven MANY, COUNTLESS times that small groups of organized players can take out much larger groups. 'Blobs' are common, but often lose all the same. To say that skill and player teamwork are a 'minor' part of EVE's PvP is flat out wrong, and uninformed. EVE's PvP is the definition of teamwork. Your poll choices are far too broad, and your descriptions of certain game's PvPs are simply an outsider's perspective. |

General: Guild Sores: You Know the Guy...

I feel bad for being yet another critic of this comic series, but these are simply not funny. Yes, they're usually 'true', but there's no comedy in the way these observations are delivered. They're simply that.. observations about certain things that happen while playing MMOs. They lack a strong punchline, or any real comedy, and as seen by the last one, some seem to only make sense in the author's mind. The comic was pretty much just a visual description of the paragraph that set up the comic. So if that was the goal... success? Also, this David North fellow, unless he has another account that he posts at, does not seem to be a member of this community at all. So citing him as "MMORPG.com's own" seems to imply that he's one of 'us', but in reality it only strengthens the fact that he works for the site and is not actually a part of, or even in touch with this community. |

#1 worst customer support in the industry, IMHO
General Discussion « Lord of the Rings Online 8/12/11 8:04:14 PM
I have a love/hate relationship with Turbine. They made my favorite MMO of all time, Asheron's Call. But when my account was hacked, they were the most useless company I've had the displeasure of paying money to. A friend told me he thought someone was on my account, so I tried to log-in and sure enough my PW had been changed. That friend then allowed me to log into the game on his account so I could file a petition. I log in, and this person who hacked me was currently ON my account, giving all the items to another person in-game (I know exactly who the person was, too and he was reknowned for his thievery and general douchebaggery). So I file a petition and got a response within 30 seconds. However, the GM told me that he could do nothing about it because it appeared that someone else had accessed my account and that was against their terms of service. I told him "YOU'RE RIGHT, they are on it RIGHT NOW, STEALING ALL OF MY THINGS". I even explained who the other character was that he was giving everything to, and where they were. To which he replied that it was out of his control. I begged with this GM to simply LOCK the account while I recovered my information. No harm done to anyone. He continued with his schtick about how there was no telling whose account it was due to the account having several IPs associated with it. Complete and utter BS, and a terrible explanation as there's no telling how many IPs I myself had over the years I played the game. Told him I would be cancelling my account of 4 years as soon as I retrieved the information and he responded that he was 'Sorry to lose me as a customer'. In the next couple days when I was able to access my account after resetting information through their 'proper channels', I logged in to find everything completely gone and my character deleted. Cancelled my account that instant, and have been back only once since then for a single month to check things out. They could have had a loyal subscriber for years to come, likely to this day still, had they only locked my account to allow me time to recover my information. Terrible customer service, and I will be wary of ALL Turbine products in the future. |

Or are you asking for a system more like other "action" asian MMO's on the horizon? C9 comes to mind. Because I feel there are plenty of other games that have the style you're asking for, and I'm looking forward to ArcheAge being more traditional gameplay with more of the -features- that I'm looking for in an MMO. |
|
|
So you're wanting darkfall-esque combat? Or am I misreading still? I'm not quite sure what you're asking, but I'm extremely happy that ArcheAge does NOT have a Darkfall combat system. And as for your other example, I greatly dislike Oblivion's combat system for an MMO. |

It certainly does sound like you're shunning advice, if the most respectful thing you can say is "I really don't care what you think". Good luck with your project, but I can almost guarantee we won't be seeing any product from you in the next ten years. And in the event that you do have a product, people will not be quick to forget the guy who told them he didn't care what they thought. Dirt gets dug up on developers all the time, and people actually do remember people who designed games. |

Minecraft is not an MMO. Calling it one doesn't make it one. It doesn't fit the criteria to qualify as an MMO. It's a game. Simple as that. |

The original EQ...a game of SKILL not REAL MONEY and other BS.
Hogcaller Inn (General) « Everquest 8/10/11 2:13:24 PM
I played for a while, on Rallos Zek and then when it became just Zek. I don't recall EQ taking much skill. It was just an early form of WoW, with more downtime/waiting. PvP didn't even take that much skill. It was all based on who had a better group helping them and who had the best gear. Had access to max levels of almost all the classes, including arguably the BEST warrior on the server. Gear was everything in that game. |
