You should never...EVER play a mmorpg on the rebound.   You were letdown, hurt even by Age of Conan.   In your desperate state even a game like Vangaurd can look good.   If you need company during this hard time, use her if you want (Vangaurd) but for the love of God don't marry her.

I agree with the OP.   I have never given any weight to the argument that one who mostly solo's should play a single player game.   While I mostly solo, I enjoy the random interactions that can occur only with player characters.

We got plenty of quantity on these forums no doubt about that.

I could tolerate both if each stated opinions as opinions and not facts.

I totally appreciate the support from indiramourn on the incredibly weighty subject of Tabula Rasa's 3 day trial.   But I would like to give a nod to Jpizzle for bringing to light a growing problem with people stating opinions on these forums with absolutes.  I would have much rather indiramourn said that he agreed with me, not that I was correct.     Because here is no "correct" defined.

We are trying to express and influence opinions here, not manipulate the facts.

...6 hours or more of my life, is certainly worth more than 3 days in your game.

I have to assume the game sucks ...

Because you will only give a 3 day trial.

SIX HOURS?!?? where do you live? Nosatiliteandnocable, Nebraska? Christ man, if it takes you 6 hours to DL and patch a game, you shouldn't be playing anyway. Your comp and/or connection is crap.

1 hour or six... My point is, you have to give me enough time to justify the hassle of creating an account, downloading, installing and patching the game.      3 days in my opinion does not cut it.

1 hour doesn't justify 71 additional ones to play? lol. OK.

6 hours isn't their fault. It's yours. They can't bend over to consider every 18 yr old that hasn't upgraded their comp/connection since their Gma bought them their HP in 2001.

I think it's funny ahow a bunch of people are complaining about something that is FREE.

Listen...I'll explain once more.       Downloading, and installing a game, patching it... then creating an account is not small task anymore.     My point is, If I'm going to go through this effort to try your game...which you will eventually CHARGE ME MONTHLY TO PLAY (AFTER 3 DAYS)... then i'm not interested.      Giving only 3 days in my opinion shows a lack of confidence by the developers.     Most free trials I have taken advantage of have been of the 14 day variety.   You belittling my internet connection is totally missing my point.

I'll go on and say this as well... I might consider pariticipating in a 3 day trial of a game that is getting boat loads of good press and forum reviews.    Tabula Rasa does not fall in that category.

AND... i have already once participated in this trial.. 3 days... several months ago.   I am a grown man with a job and responsibilities.   3 days did not give me ample time to make a sound judgement.   Now if I was a an unemployed teenager on summer vacation playing on  my father's T1 connection, I'm sure 72 straight hours of marathon gaming would have given me a good idea of what TR was all about.   But alas I am a home owner and an adult with real life responsibilites and I was unable to dedicate enough time to make a sound judgement.

14 day trial..however... gives the working man ... like myself... a real opportunity to try the game out and 14 day trials seem to be the rule, not the exception.

So if you want to keep defending a 3 day trial you can keep blabbering on.

To convince me to take the time needed to download and install this game...and patch... You'll have to give me more than 3 days.

6 hours or more of my life, is certainly worth more than 3 days in your game.

So it might say it is a "free-trial", but it will only be a free trial if you send me someone to baby sit my computer while it installs and patches, then remove the game when I realize how much it sucks.

I have to assume the game sucks ...

Because you will only give a 3 day trial.

I totally feel your pain.

Deal killers for me are:

1.  No jumping (example: Guild wars, and to my knowledge FFXI)

2.  invisible boundaries (example:  EQ II, FFXI)

3.  inability to even "walk" off ledges of any height (example: Guild wars).

People love to bash WoW for various reasons, but you can't knock the freedom of movement it provides (not to mention the lack of zoning).

I think an obvious example of great player control would be City of Heroes (in my opinion)j.

Again... I TOTALLY feel your pain.     I was ranting about this same exact subject to my roommate this morning.

Desperate to find a new fix for my mmorpg addiction, I decided to read MMORPG.com's  warhammer online overview:

"WAR hopes to launch in 2007 with six playable races, spread over two factions. As the name implies, these factions will wage an all-out PvP war on the game's servers. Beta is scheduled for the summer of 2006."

Would be nice if they updated release dates even if they aren't set in stone.

All you did was name the companies of some games that you liked, not actually successful games..  Blizzard and NCsoft made quality MMOs. No questions asked.

Puhleeze!  NCSOFT?!  Lineage II ring a bell?  Complete and utter piece of trash and one of the biggest flops at that.  NCSOFT is no different from Funcom, as far as I'm concerned.

No.  I've played every mmo out there and I can safely say that Mythic and Blizzard are the best at what they do.

People here need to stop stating opinions as fact.

I happened to like Lineage II very much... and its hardly a "flop" .

Fortunately for all of us you are not the end all authority on such matters.

I too am in an MMORPG funk.    I even tried ffXI yesterday in desperation.     Even the uninstallation process was miserable.

My MMORPG.com rank is inversly proportional to my actual mmorpg activity.

I agree with this.   I do not like the controls or the interface for that matter.   I find the game fairly unintuitive and frustrating.   Another criticism I have is the "ivisible barrier" I loathe them.   Some might not be bothered by them (invisible barriers) I most certainly am.    The music is very WONKY in my opinion.

I do approve of the graphics and the color palette.   It was nice to see a world that wasn't done in pastels.

I found the un-installation process was almost as frustrating as the account creation process (for me).

If you do install the game and get a blank black window in the account set up window, go into settings and unclik windows mode.    I found this solution by chance.

Uninstalled the play online  program, reinstalled it, rebooted.   Same problem.   I blame Bill Gates.

UPDATE:  I'm goning to try installing internet explorer (currently using firefox)  and see if that helps.

I'm extremely irritated right now.   I bought this game knowing if I hated it, I was screwed because you can't return these games.   Now I can't even play it to find out if I hate it or not.   The cost of the game, $29.99 pales in comparison to the cost in time that I've spent trying to get this piece of shit to work.

My next computer is going to be an apple... I used to not want an apple because there are fewer games for OS X then there are for windows.   Well, at this point I don't care.   I'm willing to play the console card now... and it won't be a @#&!-ing X-box 360 I can tell you that.

Die Microsoft... DIE.

Update:    I managed to get "playonline" viewer to work.   I was planning on uninstalling the game and toss it in the "CRAPPY GAMES I WASTED MONEY ON" box when I noticed a setting icon in the programs folder.   Apparently having the player in windows mode rendered it... BLACK.

I have no idea how much I will like this game.  I will say that it is now 2:40 pm Alaska time.   I've been messing with this installation since 10:00 am.   The "registration" process for this game has to be one of the most unintuitive, dragged out click fests I have ever had the misfortune of experiencing.     After the frustration ended... I was greeted with the expected patching marathon (which now stands at 6 hours with a 3 megabyte cable connection).

Greetings,

I've just finished installing final fantasy XI and the four expansion packs that came with the vana'diel collection.

When I click on the Final Fantasy XI icon, the "Play online" box comes on..then I get a window that solid black, and I hear jazzy piano music, something I'd hear in an elevator.   I know there are active buttons/menus in this black abyss because I can hear my cursor (which is invisible to me) pass over them.   Obviously because I can't see them I don't know what they are for.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in Advance.

She could just play  a healing class in any mmorpg.   She'd be in high demand and wouldn't have to kill anything.

Development costs are already sky rocketing.   Why on God's earth would a game developer want to shell out real money on foreign-English-as-a-second-language beta testers when they can get boat loads of them for free... FREE.

I would have PAID to beta test AOC, and I would have offered critical feedback with the hopes of creating a game i wanted to play.

Hardly the "BEST IDEA EVER".

I vote you stay.   Counter the ignorant posts with non-ignorant posts.

New launches always illicit this kind of activity.

Unless a game launch is an unequivocal success (and there has yet to be one) you'll always get these type of  post from the people who have allowed their expectations to get too high.

In every forum you'll find "h8ters", "trolls" and "fanbois"

It is one of my favorites (websites) and I'm glad to have found it.
