WIth that kind of huge hype there will be some serious rage when some part of playerbase will realise that this game is not fullfilling their expectations. Be it gameplay, peformance, mechanics, lack or abdunance of something or business model.

There will be some serious QQ / rage in 1 month + after release lul

A month after release? You mean... when everyone's subscriptions expire?

No game in the history of this site has reached a score that high and the hype skyrocketed right after people got to actually play it.

It's already broken the pattern. Something different will happen this time.

There are dungeons as "elite" PvE content but not raids, exploration/discovery is intended as a key feature of the game unlike other MMOs, plenty of titles/achievements, and a story mode you can play through.

Lol, its not about holding "long and narrow objects". Its about tasks that require precision and dexterity. Of course I could train my right hand to do them like you did or a righty could do the same, there is just no reason to unless maybe you knew from the moment you saw a pc for the first time that you were going to play video games on it.

The thing you don't seem to understand is that when you are given an object to manipulate in some way all humans have a natural tendency to manipulate that object with either the left or the right. The decision does not lie in which on is closest but which one you have better control over. You don't give a child a pencil on his right hand expecting him/her to write with the right hand, by your logic then he would just use the right hand. But, we all know it doesnt work that way, they will go to which ever hand they feel more control with.

I don't move it to the right hand because it would take me a while to get used to it and I can accomplish what I want with my left. The OP is just asking for a better way to set up his config to suite a left handed person, not really bashing on righties. Of course just like anything in society its always easier to suggest and request others to do something when you already know how.

I am left-handed, and I never trained myself to use a mouse in my right hand. I never used it in my left hand in the first place. It wasn't a conscious decision. The mouse was to the right of the keyboard, and I had no reason to move it to the other side.

There are countless objects that you can use in either hand, and a mouse is among them. Certain things, such as pencils and forks, are actually difficult to hold properly in your off-hand, as though the muscles simply don't want to cooperate. It takes more than a simple "getting used to" to change this. In the case of a mouse, changing hands is a simple matter of "getting used to" it.

The OP obviously isn't bashing on right-handed people. Instead he's giving left-handed people a bad name by acting as though he has special needs due to his "condition". He can't circle-strafe because he's left-handed? No. He can't circle-strafe because he's using his mouse and keyboard in an obviously suboptimal way and doesn't want to change. It's the same thing as when clickers say they "can't" use the keyboard for spells or "need" click-to-move and then cite some unrelated condition that doesn't seem to inhibit any other keyboard-related skills such as typing forum posts. I understand there are real conditions out there that do make certain aspects of playing games difficult, but being left-handed doesn't even come close to being among them.

you kidding? Of course because I eat, write, brush my teeth with my left hand so I naturally moved the mouse with the left hand. It wasn't like it was glued to the right side of the keyboard, not sure how you can't fathem that.

You wonder why people use their DOMINANT hand for things instead of using whatever hand is closest? I believe it has to do with the fact that its the dominant hand, which you have more control and precision with.

So you use your left hand for everything? I use my left for writing, eating, and brushing my teeth, sure, but those are all tasks that require you to hold a long and narrow object. You hold them in an extremely similar way. A mouse isn't shaped at all like any of those things, and you don't exactly "hold" it, either. You simply place your hand over it.

If you play console games, do you try to find custom gamepads that have the buttons on the left instead of right? Do you only open doors with your left hand regardless of which side the knob is on? If you pick up a cup to drink from with your right hand, do you pass it to your left before drinking? Do you only keep things in your left pockets because putting them in the right would be awkward?

There are countless things that anyone can do with either hand, and there is nothing special about a mouse that requires one hand or another. The same argument could be used to say, "I use the mouse in my right hand so I can keep my dominant hand on the keyboard."

I'm tired of left-handed people constantly using their handedness as an excuse as though it's some sort of disability. Just look at the OP: "I'm not sure how i can run around in circles in melee range due to I'm a lefty." From the way a lot of people act, you would think left-handedness isn't a matter of which hand is dominant but a condition that restricts the use of the right-hand. It's not a disability. It's not a condition. You can use either hand for nearly anything just as easily as right-handed people.

If you typically use the mouse in your left hand, so what? Move it to the right when you play games.

I'm left-handed and use the mouse in my right hand. I don't understand why someone would think they need to do everything with their dominant hand. Hell, in an MMO so reliant on movement, you'll be doing far more with your left on the keyboard than your right on the mouse anyway.

I have to ask people who use mice in their left hands... Why? How did you learn to do it this way? I'm really trying to figure this out. I've always used it in my right hand because the mouse is positioned on the right of the keyboard. To me, it's the same reason I don't flip the keyboard upside-down so I can have the numpad on the left, then insist on "left-handed" keyboards that are already made this way.

I have to wonder if people are making a conscious effort to use their dominant hand for things instead of just using whatever hand happens to grab it first.

If someone thinks cosmetic progression won't work, they've never seen TF2.

Trading for the weapons you want? Weapons drop like rain, and you can trade almost any of them 1-to-1. The only valued ones are cosmetic reskins.

Getting the cosmetic hat you want? Those are pretty expensive and highly sought. People will play for months to earn the metal they can trade for one, and once they get it, they quickly see another they want.

And here's the kicker. In any match, the only player that cannot see a hat is the one wearing it. People go crazy over cosmetic items that they can't even see.

Trust me, it'll work in GW2.

I think the guy is either trolling, foreign ("foreign" in this case meaning not from North America or Europe), actually 12, or some combination of the three. The way he types really seems like he learned English from playing MapleStory or something rather than in school or from actual socializing.

I ran into my own group of dense players in sPvP. I was the only one on my team capping points (which proved futile), and everyone else was fighting at the spawn. When we lost, one guy on my team started bitching and name-calling about "spawn camping". When I told him that name-calling just makes him look like a bad player, people on the other team thought I was calling them bad and started calling me names. The entire thing erupted into a free-for-all flame war until the servers went down.

I didn't know about neighborhoods in LOTRO. That's a very interesting idea.

What if they took the guild islands from GW1 and combined it with LOTRO's neighborhoods? A guild can buy an island and members of the guild can build houses on it, with their guild hall located somewhere on the island as well. Maybe if you don't have a guild (or if your guild can only afford a hall and not an entire island), it would put your house (or your guild hall) on a neutral island, with the ability to move your house or hall to a different island if you wanted.

Someone wondering about the map? Oh, I think there are plenty of places they could expand to. In case you're wondering what we've already seen, well... it hasn't been much.

steam is a 3rd party, imagine if we had WoW on steam for exemple.

patch would be live like week after for steam user. or maybe 2 week

its just like xbox and ps3 when a game need patch from a company they have to get in touch with microsoft/sony and they have to check the patch and blah blah

No, actually, the fact that you're saying that shows you have absolutely no idea how Steam works. I can launch GW1 right now from Steam, and it will be running the same version as the non-Steam version. Developers do not have to run their patches through Valve first. One of the objectives of Steam is to make it easier for developers to reach their customers, something that Gabe Newell has stated is distinct from consoles.

Please don't make things up and post them. Someone who knows even less might actually believe you.

My understanding is that if you are running the Steam version of a game, you must be able to pay for in-game purchases using your Steam wallet. I don't think this rule is retroactive, which is why you can still find games that don't follow it such as GW1.

In other words, yes, Valve would be taking a cut of not only GW2 sales but all GW2 gem sales made from the Steam version of the game as well. For most companies, the exposure you get on Steam is more than worth Valve's price (see Spiral Knights), but ArenaNet already has the exposure they need and gain almost nothing by selling the game on Steam.

It makes almost no difference to the end user unless you really wanted to spend your Steam wallet funds on gems. You would need an account with ArenaNet either way.

And to the people complaining about how hard it is to stop someone who is rezzing, you know that one utility you took that you almost never use? Replace it with an interrupt.

If you complain that things are OP without adapting, you'll never get better. You know that Hundred Blades FotM warrior build everyone is using? Any skill that grants Stability will completely shut it down. Bleed warriors giving you trouble? Bring more condition removal. Adapt.
Why are people talking about kill-stealing in sPvP? Seriously, if that's your primary objective, I can say without any doubt that you are a bad player and THAT is why things are so frustrating for you. Not only will you still get credit for the kill even if someone else lands the killing blow, but your kills aren't even displayed on the scoreboard. Maybe you'll have more fun when you learn how to play.

Firstly you really need to make your post say gold pay to win, cause people are going to think this has to do with RL cash pay to win, which is doesnt.

If people have progressed further and accumulated more gold in game, naturally they are going to have a ass ton of more resources to draw from then you, its the penalty for joining at a low level, the flip side is you can still pvp, have fun, gain xp, and level in the pvp zones, but you are at a disadvantage, you should have expected it.

All I hear is an awesome story where a small army was able to hold their own or prevail over a larger army because of better resources, sounds fair to me.

Did you miss the part where you can buy gold with gems? It's obvious the guy with all that gold didn't farm hundreds of it in a couple hours unless he found some sort of exploit.

Once everyone is 80 you'll be limited more by supply, and the gold costs will feel more like a money sink than a restriction.

I do wish they'd change the cost of the commander title to medals, though. Gold doesn't demonstrate WvW experience at all, which means that any clown who farmed enough PvE (or bought enough gems), to pretend like he's some kind of leader.

Also, don't forget that when someone does this sort of thing, it decreases the gold cost of gems, making it easier for everyone to buy more important things like character slots and bank tabs.

During beta events players were allowed to play on servers outside of their region with no trouble.

1) Is the game linear like FF13? Or open like WOW?

FF13 isn't an MMO, so I don't know what that's doing in there. GW2 is potentially more open than WoW because you aren't directed by quests. If you focus exclusively on your main storyline, however, it could seem about as linear as WoW.

2) I know GW's endgame is mostly based on PvP, let's say I enjoy PvE more, will there be an endgame for PvE players? ie: group up with friends and do PvE?

There is a lot of PvE content. You'll want to read about dungeons for small groups of friends.

3) I read that the layout the world map is huge, are there a lot of secrets? Like the cow, pont lvl in D2, D3?

Yes. We don't know if there is specifically a "cow level", but they've hidden tons of stuff around the world. There are a lot of hidden areas.

4) How are the lvling and quests like? I heard it lvls real fast and end game grinding is all about the cosmetic of your outfits? Are the quests like WOW?

You do level pretty quickly compared to other games, and yes, the end game is primarily about getting that specific look.

GW2 doesn't have quests outside your personal story, in which you will only ever have one mission at a time. In place of quests they have dynamic events and renown hearts.

Events are like the anti-quest. They are things that just happen in the world that anyone can participate in. Unlike quests, the objectives are tied to the event itself rather than individual players. If there is a quest to kill 10 rats, each player must kill 10 rats. If there is an event to kill 10 rats, the event is completed when 10 rats are killed, regardless of who killed them.

Renown hearts are very similar to quests, but you don't have to talk to the NPC beforehand, the objectives are very flexible, and the rewards are mailed to you.

5) Will this game be "Pay to Win" like D3? How does the auction house, 3rd party For Sale sites differ from D3?

There are some similarities, but there are two extremely important differences. GW2 has "gems" that can be purchased with real money. Gems can be spent on special items (such as 1-hour XP boosters or hats) or sold to other players for gold. This means that gems can also be purchased with gold, which means you get buy anything in the cash shop without actually spending any real money. With all this in mind, you could theoretically indirectly buy any item on the Trading Post with real money.

The first major difference is the end game. In D3, there is a heavy emphasis on getting better and better gear, and the difference in power between a good max level piece of gear and an amazing max level piece of gear is tremendous. In GW2, every piece of max level gear is even in power. There's no "best" item to buy on the Trading Post, so spending real money to get what you want doesn't make you any more powerful.

The other major difference is that there is no way to "cash out". You can by absolutely no means exchange anything for real money in GW2. You can buy gems for real money, but you cannot sell them for real money.

It's support for XInput. Tons of game already have this. It has nothing to do with a console port.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Unless they completely redo the way the game architecture is structured, a console port is impossible. Notice how they stream updates to you while you play and you only have to restart the client when they're done? That isn't possible on PS3 or 360. At all. Not only are the systems simply incapable, but Microsoft and Sony have imposed strict restrictions against doing so. This the primary (and possibly only) reason WoW has never been released on consoles. The update policy is also the exclusive reason why Valve has completely abandoned TF2 on consoles.

Remember how the PS2 version of EverQuest was a completely different game? This is the reason why, and it is the only way there will ever be a console version of GW2. FFXI was created for PS2 first, which is the reason that game receives so incredibly few updates and that the updates it does receive always feel... gimped.

"But what was all that hubbub about a small team working on a console version?" Investors wanted a console version looked into because they don't understand things like practicality and feasibility. They only understand numbers. NCSoft told ArenaNet to look into it. ArenaNet created a small console team to perform a feasibility study to satisfy investors. They already know what the results will be, but those investors need their numbers.

the F2P is gonna get a lot of people to try it out. I know i'll prly pick it up just cause it has no sub.

It isn't F2P any more than... pretty much any game is F2P. Is Battlefield 3 F2P? How about Mass Effect? Skyrim? No, you have to buy those (with money) to play them, just like GW2. A $60-price tag isn't going to get a lot of people to just "try it out" unless they've been playing nothing but subscription MMOs for years upon years. Only $60 to play? That's so much cheaper than... however many hundred people spend to play WoW all the time.

People are going to tell you that you'll be fine because fanboys constantly try to sell their favorite game and convince everyone that they will enjoy it. It wouldn't matter if someone said they hated anything that isn't a pure sandbox FFA PvP gankfest. People would still try to talk them into buying GW2.

The truth? No, dog, you're screwed. If you can't dodge attacks in real-time, you won't make it far at all. Don't listen to people telling you to just play a ranged class, either. You must kite if you want to play ranged in this game. Your only hope is to find a group of players who are willing to carry you through every encounter, in which case you might as well be AFK.

EDIT: You other hope is to, you know, learn how to play. If you're interested in the game, then... yeah... do that one.
