I don't-- What???

Aion and Rift have combat systems nearly identical to WoW's, and these are your examples? There is more to a combat system than whether or not it has targeting! Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Dragon Age, Guild Wars, Metroid Prime, Phantasy Star Online, and WoW all have targeting systems and none of them have even vaguely similar combat.

you know what? No sense in arguing over something that I can only see in videos, I have to wait like most to actually play the game. Until then GW2 combat just seems less appealing than TERAs, that is my opinion...until I try it for myself.

I guess I can't add anything if you absolutely refuse to so much as acknowledge a single one of my points.

To Sector13 it is bad thing, anything about TERA is a bad thing. Do you even know how many times this guy posts in TERA forumns??? (Everything negative btw)
What I'm saying... is it may do so but has its purpose, why are you going out of your way to make a point I already got for someone else? Some people agree its a bad things and won't play TERA cuz of that sole reason...

I don't care what his opinion on Tera actually is. He expressed that he preferred other systems. So what? It doesn't change his argument. He never said it was bad in this thread. He only expressed that it wasn't for him.

Do you really think that the only thing he's trying to explain is why the system is bad? Did you truly completely miss that he's trying to explain that Tera's combat is different from FPS-style games and not as similar as you were making it out to be?

You really need to work on your reading comprehension. I never said GW2 didn't have a targeting system, and Sector13 never (in this thread) said that Tera's combat was inherently bad for being more restrictive. In his first post in this thread, he even said he likes where Tera is pointing MMOs. Where the hell do you get that he's trying to bash the game?

Stop being so defensive. We're not attacking Tera. We're not even criticizing the game, and yet you're putting up a brick wall.

No, you wont. GW2 PvE is too dependant on players working together on the fly, world PvP would just complicate that.

You can however head straight to the Mists and level up there in World vs World PvP or using Battlegrounds.

He specifically mentions that World vs World is what interests him in GW2. There was absolutely nothing confusing about his wording if you actually read (not skimmed) his post. Did you only read the thread title?

Over time, players interested primarily in world versus world gameplay will begin migrating to a subset of servers where the majority of players share their primary interest. I’m not saying this is a bad thing as I can definitely see myself following that path.

You can only participate in WvW on your homeserver, and there is a fee (probably gems) to change your homeserver. Such migration would be limited, and even if it happened, matchmaking would ensure you're playing against servers of similar populations.

I might suggest going to something like guildwarsguru website and find out where some of the larger more popular PVP guilds plan on rolling and go there.

I recommend not going to Guru and instead waiting for the official forums to launch to look for a guild there.

Saying that it's a part of the system doesn't change the simple fact of that is still limits the control of your character compared to other action based MMOs or FPSs like you compared TERAs controls to. In your own words, it limits your control, "get over it".

I don't think TERAs combat limits control at all actually, I feel its part of being tactical and cautious when in combat. Especially against a PC-player who is unpredictable and able to react to whatever another PC-player decides to dish at them. Even combat against BAMs force you to make critical decision, which decide whether or not you are good or not in soloing BAMs. TERAs combat is fluid, more at higher-lvls including the use of glyphs. No where did I mention that TERA "limits your control" I did say however, that its not for everyone...

Here is video of berserker: One of the slower classes      HERE

That's completely beside his point. Please use reading comprehension when replying to posts. He is trying to explain why Tera's combat is not like most action games or FPS's, and you keep explaining why you like Tera's combat.

You're making the assumption that when he says it "limits control" he means that it's a bad thing. Look at your first sentence. It doesn't limit control because it's more tactical? No, it does limit control, but that's okay because combat is more tactical as a result.

I said the combat system is "Similar to WoW." or it could even be "AION" or "RIFT." Doesn't matter which, they all use a tab- targeting system.

I don't-- What???

Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Dragon Age, Guild Wars, Metroid Prime, Phantasy Star Online, and WoW all have targeting systems and none of them have even vaguely similar combat.

Wait until people actually play the game. Right now they're only looking at "feature lists". Individual features mean nothing. Once people see how the system works as a whole they'll forget about mounts and the trinity. Raids, maybe not, but oh well.

Its a tab-target combat system, get over it. Why is that so hard to understand? Not like TERAs, FPS style... Make sense? You have an arrow over the target indicating you are targeting it, then use 1, 2 , 3, 4, 5 or what have you.. Melee attacks are similar, but aoe and wide-area attacks can be used without the need to actually target something and hit it.

Okay, so then there are two types of combat in games: combat where you manually aim and combat that is like WoW.

I never said the game didn't have a targeting system. You completely ignored my Zelda comparison. And no, before you make strange assumptions about what I'm saying, I'm not saying the combat in GW2 is like Zelda, but how the hell does having a targeting system make it like WoW?

Is this honestly the only aspect of combat that you can detect? Whether or not you can target enemies? There's a lot more to it that makes it closer to Tera than to WoW.

As to folks hoping for hobar modifiers like shift/alt/etc, I doubt it will happen. The game has been designed around 10 skills, 5 based on weapons and fast weapon switching. I just don't see that changing. On top of that, as a long time GW player I don't understand the desire for it either. *shrug*

My F-keys are easy to reach, and I'm pretty comfortable binding skills to Z, X, C, and V, so the inability to use modifiers isn't a deal-breaker for me, but this actually is a serious issue.

GW1 is a poor comparison because you only need about 9 to 13 buttons: 8 for skills, 1 for attack/interact, and up to 4 for weapon sets. If you're using click to move, reaching across your keyboard is easy.

GW2 has considerably more buttons you'll need to press: 10 for skills, 1 for interact, 1 for dodge, 1 for jump, 1 for weapon swap, and 1 to 4 for profession mechanics. The default controls have you reaching all the way to the "0" key. On some keyboards the F-keys are way out of reach. That just isn't going to work. I honestly don't know why they didn't assign the default to something playable. Nobody has fingers that span their entire keyboard.

I can't really agree about calling the system Tab-targeting, though. You definitely have the option to use tab(if you so desire), but I pressed it no more than 2-3 times, before I figured out I don't need it at all in the 80 minutes of demo time I got. It's an interesting hybrid between Tera's pure FPS targeting and WoW's system I guess, but the dodging isn't the only difference between WoW's system and GW2's.

Tab-targeting is still what it lookes like regardless of how you try to spin it, you may not be using the tab key but you are still mainly locked on the target you want to use your skills...Especially for range, aoe skills and wide area skills offer a little different approach.

HERE - You can see it, don't deny it!

I don't know what you're trying to show in all these videos you keep posting, but according to your definition, Ocarina of Time is similar to WoW because you can lock onto enemies and "tab" through your targets.

Anyone else notice any minor feature that seems to be missing (not Raids)?

I really want aoe loot.

It would be nice, but since you can auto-loot by just pressing F near a corpse, it wouldn't be so bad if they didn't add it. If it's requested enough in the coming beta phases it might get thrown in, though. Who knows.

The amount of polish the game needs would not take very long, honestly. Graphical polish and general bug fixes are the last things done before launching a game. Every single core system is in place. Every class and even every race is implemented and working. The starting areas for asura and sylvari are not ready to be shown, but the core systems behind them are fully functional. Make no mistake, these beta events are for two purposes: stress tests and showing off the game. It's a demo now, and it'll be a public demo in one month from now.

At this point it's just a matter of them churning it all out.

OP: Watch this video: It actually answers the first three of your questions extremely well.

As for the fourth one, it varies. Crafting dependencies are on par with WoW. General play ("questing") is significantly more social but also more lenient on grouping. Events draw players together naturally, and because you share credit, you won't compete for resources. On the other hand, direct interaction isn't required in the open world. In dungeons (5-man), however, you will absolutely need a group, and you will most definitely need a team strategy to defeat the most challenging bosses. Raids are not planned for launch.

>implying Apple didn't give them a huge discount for buying 270 at once

@OP TY TY TY! nice find and happy its confirmed. I really like the color choices too although I wish the Charr had a violet option. May be a deciding factor when I finally decide on which race I want to play. Need to see updated Sylvari and Asura.

Yeah, I think it's the biggest deal with sylvari and asura. Sylvari have eyes that glow, and asura have eyes that take up half of their head. Both are going to be extremely noticeable.

The only thing I would do to the character creator at this point is separate "face" into "base nose", "base eyes", "base mouth", etc. At this point it's not a big deal as I'm confident I'll be able to get the look I want, but I guess that's just how I personally would have done it.

I haven't played GW2, but judging from the videos...

No, not quite. You can keep right-click held at all times for persistent mouse-look, but the game still has a targeting system and will auto-aim many (most?) of your attacks. If you don't have a target, however, you will have to manually aim all of your attacks.

To be fair, some skills in Tera (I believe) also seem to lock on. I'd say the combat is much closer to Tera than to WoW, but it still remains a hotkey-driven game. This is only my personal impression. I haven't actually played GW2, and my experience with Tera is pretty limited.

I'm relatively confident that they will add it in soon, as I'm sure it was frequently requested during the beta weekend.

The fanboys really come out if the woodworks.

Complain about something major. "You're just a hater! Play a different game!"
Complain about something minor. "You're just a hater! You'll cry about anything!"
It's not a deal breaker for me, but this is very important. Stop trying to demean the OP. This is a very valid concern that is a huge deal to some people.

Imagine if a new fighting game came out that didn't allow the use of an arcade stick. A lot of people would blow it off right away. Hell, I won't be getting Diablo 3 for the sole reason that you can't have keyboard movement.
Can you even imagine the backlash if ArenaNet announced, "Guild Wars 2 will now have an optional subscription!" right after announcing the cash shop details? The people who actually want a monthly fee are in an extreme minority. The ones complaining about the cash shop are mostly people who don't understand that ArenaNet is a business and not a charity.

I can only imagine it being worse if they didn't let you buy gems with gold. Nothing in the shop is exclusive to anyone.

The article just sounds like someone in denial that they said they'd have microtransactions from the start. "Waaah, they should give us everything for free after we buy the game. Servers and updates be damned!"

People really need to stop crying about this. Saying that everyone will disregard gold and only trade gems shows a gross misunderstanding of the system. The value of gems and gold are dependent on one another. People don't ignore ISK in EVE, PoE in Puzzle Pirates, crowns in Spiral Knights just because there's a more powerful currency available, especially when the currencies' values are based on each other.
