James Ohlen: We're going to continue to add missions. That's another thing that actually surprised us. While we knew that because we weren't doing a freeform X-wing versus Tie Fighter-style space game that we were going to get backlash, that didn't surprise us and obviously we got that feedback a long time ago. We've been working really hard to continue to improve the space game that we have and it's definitely become more popular with our fans with each [beta] iteration. The very last test we had it scored higher than it's ever scored before. I don't think it's going to win over people who want X-wing versus Tie Fighter but I do think people are going to find that it's very evocative of Star Wars and it's a fun activity when you want to take a break from questing. You can go to your own starship and involve yourself in some very awesome Rogue Squadron-y space combat. I can say that we do have a special project going on right now in regards to the space game that will expand the space game in a significant way, but that's not something that's coming right away.

So, they knew they were going to get backlash, and yet they did it anyway.

/facepalm

Who are these people?

lolololol

Cool?

I'm not sure what it is you are looking for  by telling us this on here.

Oh btw I returned the Charlie Brown Christmas tree I bought as a decoration at Fredmeyer because I found it cheaper at Walgreens.

This isn't facebook lol.

wow so much bashing on the OP. was he/she a troll in the community or something?

no way. He was what you might call the OG fanboi of this game. Back in 2005-06; while everyone was bashing us for even thinking BioWare would make a SW MMO, we were a few of maybe 10 folks here that where adamant about this fact.

I've been in testing for some time as well and I agree with your summary. I mirror your thoughts on lack of open world. Even though the worlds do open up a bit, you are still kept pretty much on the same train track path, even if you do go exploring, there is little to see outside the track boundaries.  The game like you said is robust in some areas, and majorly lacking in others. I will still buy the game, but with the hopes that future patches and updates based on consumer feedback will be applied that will make this one of the best games for a Star Wars fan ever.

As of now, I find myself getting burnt out within a few days, after which I take a break, come back and play. It’s not going to be a game that will hold my attention 24/7, which sucks because I had hoped it would. Either way there are some aspects that are fun, and I think once a player can get in with people they know, it should become much more fun even though I found myself able to solo a lot of the main parts of the game.

I too played SWG. I too was an elder jedi. I let go of it a long time ago though. I never expected this game to be as open as SWG, so I am not upset that it does not have enough SWG in it.

I loved SWGs openess, but I could not stand the huge list of bugs, imbalance, and lack of anything significant in that wide open space they provided us with. You spent so much time in SWG doing nothing but waiting, searching (hoping to find something worth while), and basically standing around.

I like many of us look back on the good of SWG and highlight those portions. But if you truly reflect back on the game and compare it to something like SWTOR, then you will find that SWG was mostly just a shell of a game. They tried to fix it with the CU and the NGE, but failed.

I find that some SWG vets are not willing to accept a game unless it mirrors SWG. It may be subconsious, but it is there all the same.

Good luck to you, I hope you find what you are looking for.

Don't get me wrong, I’m not expecting it to play like SWG did. This is pretty mcuh the only MMO I will be investing in from here on out. That game was so long ago for me and I've played so many other MMOs that I'm not so much interested in that game style anymore. I just think that SWTOR can become more, and I expect it will in time. Weather effects, day night cycles on some planets, dynamic events ect would go a long ways to foster immersion. Eventually they are gonna have to give some more open worlds to explore for the explorers as well. When I play SWTOR and put my mind into the KOTOR state, it really feels like KOTOR, and I like that. But when I compare it to other MMOs, it seems lacking on some fronts and those issues I highlighted are the key things it’s lacking. Me getting burnt out, is due mostly to the fact that I've played the same classes so many times each build.

I hate to say this but I kind of liked Rift in some ways, though I felt it was lacking as well on some fronts. I think this goes for any MMO to be honest. At launch it will never be everything we want, but it doesn’t mean I won’t play it.

I have played through 3 builds of TOR and each update they have added things people asked for to make the game better and better. I know BioWare is on the ball and this is why I am investing into the game; I know it will in time get better and better just like WoW did. So don’t think for one second I am bashing the game, I like it, I just wanted to point out things I think could use a real boost to make the game better for some players.

I'm locked out as well. I've been a huge suporter and fan of SWTOR since 2006 when I first learned of this BioWare MMO, and even I'm annoyed enough to say this account issue is F'n FAIL.

This great because finally we can see an end to all the  "Release date pleeeese!" spam tied to this game all over the intewebz..

Yes, but now we're gonna see the "early access date please!" spam instead.

omg you're right. Thing is it's gonna be different for everyone depending on when you entered you code.

Actually this is one of the dumbest release dates of any they could have chosen, mainly because of the christmas backlog on mail and the strain that happens every year on the mailing system. Putting the release date this close to christmas means that many people will not get the box in time. In the UK the release date is the 22nd so anyone thinking of getting SWTOR as a christmas gift for someone think again if you want to be sure that your gift arrives on time. Any christmas release should be at least two weeks before, not two days and if this isn't possible then release in January and use the extra couple of weeks to iron out another couple of bugs.

That's why you use the "Gift" option when you order something from an online store. Oh and you can preorder to have early access and just DL it, it will still get to you at around launch day, but you can start playing before that day. Also keep in mind most partial services still operate on Christmas eve

I voted world PvP, only because in a game like this it's easy to know the ganking hot spots, unlike in SWG where you could be ganked anywhere. And I doubt there will be many spontaneous battles that just break out in all out wars on multiple planets.

Fail for you personally? or for everyone? Kinda hard to judge since one person might like something others dislike, or dislike something others like.

Um.. The Best MMORPG out there withthe best Gerphic by far is Final Fantasy 14 hands down it's the only MMO out there take even one gerphic card can't even handle  alone with max settings you need two cards to even play FFXIV at the highest settings man swtor can be ran on 7800 GTX card min while FFXIV min needs 9800 max settings for FFXIV you need 2 460 series or so to even run it at max settngs while you only need 1 200 series to run SWTOR at max settings.  art style and gerphics are  too toltally differnt things man no mmo out yet has better gerphics then FFXIV GW2 comes close but still no mmo holds a candle to FFXIV gerphics  man. so please learn gerphics from art style  of games .

Could somebody tell me what gerphics are? Is this some new technology I missed out on?

lol

Only time I see this is when someone comes in to troll. For the most part a lot of people were looking forward to playing both GW2 and SWTOR (yes you can enjoy more than one MMO), but now the folks who are die hard GW2 trolls are driving a lot of us who were looking forward to GW2 away.

The funny part is I can say the same thing about the TOR fanatics that post in the GW2 forums! I will never understand why people post in game forums they are not interested in, if you are not going to play TOR then do not post in there forums and disrupt conversations. If you are not going to play TSW then do not go into their forums. What is the point of going there when you are not even going to play the game!

Which brings up the question, do you have an interest in playing SWTOR? I do see you regularly visit and post on TOR threads, just wondering

Or to repeat your last comment, 'what is the point of going here when you are not even going to play the game?'

You weren't speaking to me but you might aswell have been, so I'll answer ( I also need to get this off my chest).

I'm a Star Wars fan, I grew up on the original trilogy and they are by far the movies I've watched the most times in my life.

I've been following TOR since the day it was announced, I registered on the TOR forums the day after the announcement.

During all this waiting, I was playing WoW and really enjoying it. Then came WotLK and that totally destroyed it for me. From that point on I started hating WoW and Blizzard (very much like I despise SOE for destroying SWG).

After that came Rift and to my biggest disappointment, it played almost exactly like WoW. I quit after 2 weeks.

Now here I am, been waiting for TOR for almost 3 years and the game is turning out to be yet another WoW...copy (wether you agree or not doesn't matter here).

So I'm really pissed. Yeah extremely pissed that I won't be able to enjoy this game I've been so eagerly awaiting.

Yes, it's a case of "they didn't do the game I wanted them to" - I admit it.

So now I spend most of my time on these forums bashing TOR and I'll continue to do so until Bioware has the BALLS to add something new and worthwhile to the game - voice overs and quest giving pets aren't enough to make me forget that most everything else is directly ripped from a game I now loathe.

Can I just say this?  It never claimed to be anything else but standard MMO fare (if you think the comparison should be made to WoW because it's what you know, more power to you) with an injection of story and choices. The more rabid fans on the other hand have.....If you liked KOTOR, Star Wars, and MMOs, you might like SWTOR. If you are looking for a Sandbox, well you won't find that in SWTOR because that was never the game they planned on making. That's not to say they can't add these features later based on player feedback, but they have already said, it's not going to be at launch. The important thing was to build a high quality game with core MMO mechanics that majority of gamers would be familiar with, looks like they got what they set out to do.

I plan on playing SWTOR, and I plan on checking out GW2, even with all the hostility. I'm not bothered by it really, I've been a part of this site and many games long enough to have a thicker skin, but I see some of the fighting and just think it's sad and pointless. I think it's ok to have discussions, and debate, it should just be constructive on both sides of the fence.

Hype it with cinematics that have no connection with gameplay

Repeat SW and BW always

Give players small info so they cant realise it is WoW Clone

Sell 2 milion copies, achieve financial succes and go WAR path.

Dont say you havent been warned !!!

Remake an entire game that milions quit

Repeat dynamic over and over with little to no real details

Use hype words and personel story whenever possible and never give any details

Say buy to play in every other sentence

AMIDOINGITRIGHT?

Oh GW2 is no clone. It has more info than TOR which should launch soon, and yes it is B2P and it will beat TOR hard.

Also GW2 hype is more than justified? I dont think TORs hype is....

Also will quote your post and laugh when TOR fails be prepared dont say you havent been warned.

I am really excited about GW2 but when i read comments like this, it is the community which worries me. The thought of being surrounded by such obnoxious players really bothers me (You do realize that SW:TOR has also got these people in abundance?). Reminds me so much of WOW community full of self centered and over confident players who just can't accept that anything else can be better than their beloved game.

I believe Grotar does the same on the official SW:TOR forums, although I haven't seen him on GW2Guru.

Oh yes i m on GW2guru aswell but I m not so negative tthere coz i dont have alot to complain about. On the other hand TOR forums are really nice place for laugh, when you see amount off misinformation, hate that is dericted to other MMOs.

Mostly about GW2 but TSW and WoW are getting thier share aswell. Also half the TOR forums refuse to even think that their games is doing smth wrong...

Ever since the announcement of the game they've presented nothing but disappointment after disappointment.  The killer, for me, was what they did to space combat.  I'm sorry, but no on rails flying game will be better than free flight.  It might be more cinematic, but that doesn't mean it's better.

A bunch of my friends are pre-ordering.  I can't justify it for myself...

Again, it's in testing, and feedback is important enough for them that they aren't going to give everyone all the juicy bits unti they are ready. They aren't doing it to be mean you know.

@ the writer of this article. Every studio releases info at their own pace to suit their needs, continuing to compare this game to this or that game will do nothing more than foster more animosity between playerbases. Truth is you won't know much about the details you are yearning for until the game is ready to go gold.Just wait and see how many things announced "change" from this point to launch of GW2 and you will see why BioWare is doing what they are doing with info flow. It's still in testing, feedback is important, nuff said.
