i find it abit hard to get going with corps and stuff.

I was really into EVE for a while, but then I realized I was paying monthly to sit and mine asteroids for months just to get enough money to go get my fancy ship blown up by the first gank squad i meet. nah. No masochism for me.

Just went back to GW2 after 6 months out. Season 2 is better-ish. Easier to get ecto now, mat drop rate is improved and I like the new drops for ascended armor they added. Still precursor drop rate sucks, waiting for proposed precursor crafting. Things are way jacked up in price due to people playing the market, (some prices are too damn high), but  it's easy to make lots of gold farming. All in all this is the first MMO I have actually stuck to the longest since SWG, I'm not sure why and I don't really care atm.

Yeah but some of the mechanics for some ex-swg precu players are not appealing. That and the development cycle is is questionable at this point, so it's good to bring another swg wanna-be into the fray. Gives more to look forward to.

This game isn't too bad for a free game tbh. The only thing that annoyed me was the kill rights issues. If you didn't get the highest damage on a quest kill you found yourself waiting for the next spawn, which at times was long. Not to mention the controls seemed a little sloppy.
I've been buying crap loads of games on Steam, I don't play MMOs much anymore. Maybe someday i will see one worth my time.

And to those who think that the Repopulation will be the natural successor to SWG, you are in for a rude awakening. I made that mistake myself and wasted $100 by pledging towards the project only to discover once I could read the forums, It will be a very different game to SWG with PvP being the main focus and PvE players having to settle for a second rate version of the game. I no longer have any interest at all.

Thank you...I'm glad someone else said what I've felt for some time now...Not trying to be a jerk either...But you can't just come around and claim a game is going to take the place of SWG...You can't...So I would like for those who continue to do this to please give it a rest...Let the game stand on it's own merit...if it has any...But there is no replacement for SWG...Unless first of all it's a Star Wars game...And secondly unless it contains a multitude of the same properties SWG had...The sandbox aspect is just the start...There's the one-of-a-kind Player Cities...The many, unique and huge planets...The amazing depth that came with the 250 skill point system...The incredible crafting and harvesting system...The Galactic War both PvP and PvE...The space combat...The player vendor system...The crazy amount of different NPC's and monsters...The Beastmaster/Creature Handler systems...The badge system...The instances...Well...Most of you already know all this...I could go on and on and on...Nothing is the next SWG unless it's the next SWG...Or the old SWG...Nothing...

That's disappointing. The game showed so much promise around the time they announced it and it's been nothing bad news for the past few months. Time will tell I guess, it's so hard to find good sci-fi these days, and kickstarter isn't helping it seems.

Full time PvP players are louder/ more vocal than PvE players (who sometimes PvP). Even though their group is smaller, they get their way in game design for these small budget games.

For whatever reason these days in MMO land Sandbox game = full time PvP+Third person shooter. lol i don't know what the fuck to think anymore....sooo since no one is building a decent sandbox sci-fi mmo like SWG with something for everyone I'll just go back to not caring about MMOs and just play my non-mmo Steam games and be happy. xD

I don't understand how Smed thinks that a sandbox game that isn't sci-fi based is going to make swg vets feel right at home. I'm no fan of post apoc zombies....if i was I would play DayZ We have had a few of those now and most have kinda fell short. Most SWG vets were also Star Wars fans, (not all, but most). 
 
We have had high-fantasy, post apoc, semi fantasy and present world based sandbox games or games with sandbox elements. None have done what SWG did. Perhaps nothing ever will be what swg was back in 03-04, but I still keep hoping for it and based on what is in the pipeline the closest thing to it seems to be The Repopulation, and even it has it's flaws.  For me it will somewhat fill the void, but part of the experience for me in SWG was living in the world of Star Wars and being just a common bro with not much of a background trying to make a name for myself in real time.
 
Who knows, maybe this H1Z1 trademark is humor.....raising a game from the dead sort of joke....(one can dream) xD

i'll be honest with you i don't follow this game's progress (in fact i hardly follow any mmorpg's progress any more), but i may have heard about this mmorpg three years ago? and its still in alpha? 

 

and as far as the successor of SWG Pre-Cu and all the sandboxy awesomeness is concerned, first there was Earthrise, then Darkfall, then the promise fell onto Fallen Earth; I believe Archage was next.

 

where are all these games now? Last I heard Earthrise was still figuring out how to put trees in their landscape, Darkfall and Fallen Earth might both have 30 active players combined and I have no clue in what stage Archage is in. 

 

then there were other "sandbox" games in between that promised the SWG experience only to fall short on that promise - i just cant remember their names now because now i play angry birds. 

 

i hope this title can succeed i really do, but after almost 9 years of the demise of swg no developer has manged to replicate that experience. they don't even know how to get close to it. 

 

I think the experience lives no where else but in our memories at this point.. So unless any of you guys have a time machine, then there is no hope sadly. I do sometimes get this idea that if they rebuilt SWG with new PS2 engine, and set it in the timeline of the upcoming SW movies it would be the best thing ever, but most likely I would be wrong.

That is not entirely correct. Search a little google and you might find something... flightless birds and such.

where are all these games now? Last I heard Earthrise was still figuring out how to put trees in their landscape, Darkfall and Fallen Earth might both have 30 active players combined and I have no clue in what stage Archage is in. 

 

then there were other "sandbox" games in between that promised the SWG experience only to fall short on that promise - i just cant remember their names now because now i play angry birds. 

 

i hope this title can succeed i really do, but after almost 9 years of the demise of swg no developer has manged to replicate that experience. they don't even know how to get close to it. 

 

I think the experience lives no where else but in our memories at this point.. So unless any of you guys have a time machine, then there is no hope sadly. I do sometimes get this idea that if they rebuilt SWG with new PS2 engine, and set it in the timeline of the upcoming SW movies it would be the best thing ever, but most likely I would be wrong.

Wrong. Winning WvW depends on having better timezone coverage. Everything else being equal, if you have people playing from e.g. 2AM to 5AM and the other side doesn't you will win. You will actually rack up such in advantage during those hours that you can afford "lose" during the rest of the day and you will still win.

This is why I got sick of WvWvW, time zone issues. It was also frustrating watching keeps get taken away shortly after you helped take them because players treated it like a grind. Would have been nice if they implemented a type of timer that if you lost it a keep or castle within 2 hours the points would dissolve, or be less for losing it. Give players a reason to continue to defend their lands instead of siege and move on the next leaving the one they took undefended.

 
  Very unprofessional. Not sure where this new business mentality comes from that nasty=nasty.
