eek leveling.... It just doesn't make since to me anymore. Call it the TSW effect ;)

Really though the one guy said he was 21 at the end of the first beta and he is still 21?!?! That's a steep XP curve right there. That being said before I played TSW, I was one of the people who wanted leveling slowed down when WoW was moving to fast food.

At the same time tthere needs to be meaningfull content at lower levels in order to slow down leveling. Idk leveling is just dumb imo...

Leveling is a level per 2 hours says the developers. I was leveling doing heart quests and surrounding dynamic events at about 4 level in 3 hours (if you focus on it).  NOrmally i level about 1 every 90 minutes.  And that's not repeating content or redoing heart quests.

I didn't play in the first BWE, so this was my first experience with GW2

I was trying to level strictly by following the hearts. That doesn't mean I went to the heart and moved to the next heart as soon as I finished it. I explored the whole area around the heart looking for events. My experience was somewhat frustrating.

I found it difficult to find active events. If I had already beaten the heart event, usually nothing else was going on near-by. I would extend my search away from the heart and find myself running for several minutes without encountering any events. Was I supposed to go talk to all the NPCs near the heart to trigger an event? I have no idea. In the end, I was giving up and teleporting around the world looking for events going on nearby, just so I could to the next part of the story.

Based on my experience, the world was not all that "eventful". Also, I thought DEs were supposed to chain? I only encountered two DEs that chained: the water pipe one (where they repair the pipes after the first raid), and the bandit raid on the farmland (if the bandits win, you have to clear them). Is a chain of 2 the typical? Seems a little weak.

As my wife said, this is a game for people who like to explore. The hearts are a great way to find things to do, but a lot of stuff happens on the way from and to places and in between.

For instance, if you see a cave on your map, go and investigate it, theirs a regular event that takes place in most caves.  If you see a skill point, go and try to find it (also events circulate around that).  Listen to people talking (talk to people,  or listen to idle conversation). Many times they are taking about events going on.

Try exploring htew aters, even in starter zones, again events happen.

If you play this game like Wow, going from obvious quest to obvious quest, you're not going to find a lot of stuff to do.  I stopped talking to the scouts aftter level 10, scouts were put in to ease wow players into a new game.  After you figure out that just giong out and "finding things" is the best way to stay busy.

With access to 3 starting zones their shouldn't be any problems leveling from the beginning.  I just made 26 to 30 in 3 hours.  Exploration is definately key, many times DEs are often the beaten track.

I didnt notice a problem in the frequency.

The same thing is happening with Tera and GW2.  Gamers from traditional MMO's don't like either of them, because they're so used to the combat and questing mechanics of the last decade or more.

People dont dislike TERA because the combat is different, they dislike it because the MMORPG elements of it range from generic to bad and the only other positive the game has is its graphical quality, but its style puts off a lot of people.

Their are a bunch of folk who like Wow (their's no such thing as traditonal MMOs.). IT's about as silly as saying all sports games or action games should be the same.

I havn't experienced this in the game, but I have this bad in console games.

This is very common, your brain essentially can't tell the difference between reality and the game.  There are a lot of articles about it. After years of so many incomplete games (batman:arkham, dragon age 2, mass effect 2 etc). I deciced to do some reasearch talk to my doctor.   I was given dramamoine, a magnet wrist band and some ginger pills (from gnc).  I have finally beatten all of them.

I decided not to try it out this beta. Had a ball last beta, but by the time i logged on we were pitted against 2 new servers and owned 94 percent of the map (and sunday still holding) lol.  My hope is that i am just on an awesome server but i know its the server balance issue.

What is hurting gaming is the mindset I've read in 2 upcoming MMOs.

We want people who play MMOs to feel comfortable playing MMOs so we did A, B C

Do you hear this kinda crap from any other genre.

"We want you to feel comfortable playing god of war so we made it like metal gear? "

"We wanted you to enjoy Halo so we made it like DOOM,"

Unsure if its a role playing server or what, but lots of chat going on in my general area for various large events.   I think I found more chat near cities and places where people were idle. Unlike a lot of games, theirs no way to sit in even the basic combat and chat.  So you have to go to hte city zones.  I've made 4 friends this weekend, just from adventuring for a bit together.

The point is that whenever you see a boring DE you just should ignore it and keep on walking.

And I never grinded mobs, right now there are 3 huge 1-15 zones and 2 mnore will come soon, just the heart quest should be enough to level you up but you are missing the exploration thing by just doing that.

But just because I have fun does not mean you are and the other way around, we seems to play rather different and if you like being told what to do instead of walkingaround exploring this just ain´t the game for you.

Y... eah, I feel sort of the same way.  When people complain about something being boring, I immediately wonder 'holy fuck, then why aren't you doing the fun parts?'.

I dunno.  I haven't had any problems leveling with my 'hyperactive ferret' method of wandering around.  It's horribly punishing in your average themepark MMO, where not following the quest bread crumb trail is basically bad for you.  It's one problem I have with MMOS, my particular style of gameplay is punished. :(  I guess I'm just glad to have something I can run around and goof off and do what catches my eye and find out I'm still keeping up with my friends.

I'm with the you.  If you're bored you're trying to be bored.  I never got bored with Secret World, frustrated- saddened- annoyed , but not bored, cause i made my own fun. And when the anger got to me i'd cut it off for a few hours and play again until i got annoyed.

Fairly odd how folk who grind the same dungeons over and over and over and over an over again troll GW2 forums and talk about how bored they are. Irony

Look at WoW and Maplestory  Top P2P and Top F2P both have dated graphics but what makes people stay is the gameplay... the features... gaming companies should stop spending so much money on this new gfx engine and that and actually think about the game they are creating and what it does diffrent/better.

/agree or /disagree.?

In 2004, WOW was the hottest. It had great grpahics for its time.   Their were a few other non-aaa titles that came out, but they didnt hold a candle.

However, graphics "alone" do not make a AAA title.  It's the money that is invested in. It's the production that makes the title. Their are some AAA titles with horrible graphics in this world.  That's not what makes it AAA, it's that they are putting a lot of money into producing it, even if they waste it.

This isn't meant as a troll post. I think the game is fun. And to be fair I haven't done much PvE content yet. But the PvP, while entertaining, is just becoming redundant without any purpose behind it. I guess there's competitive PvP tournaments to look forward to, but the maps are kind of bland. I'm not much of a fan of capture points. I can't see it holding my interest for long. I'd almost rather it just be a straight up arena. WvWvW is just meh. Everything is one big zerg. And yes, I read all about the strategies n such, but in reality it just feels zergy. Without any real incentive for me to be there. I have absolutely no attachment to any of my servers keeps n what not. It just feels kind of stale. Gameplay is cool n all, but I dunno how this game is going to hold my attention for longer than a month or so. It's a PvP game and PvP has no consequence whatsoever. I just wish there was more of a point to it all.

GW2 offers more "point" for PVE and PVP than any other game I have played... not really sure what you are looking for in this respect. But looks like you already made your decisions maybe wait for planetside 2

Well what is the point? There's competitive battlegrounds. That's cool I guess. But are you honestly impressed by those maps? How many times can you run them over and over and over again? I give myself about a month. What's the point of WvWvW? I guess if you get into a good guild and organize stuff that could be cool. But let's be honest, most of the time you'll be rolling unorganized randoms or sacking NPC keeps. Neither of which really offers a challenge. Sure, large scale PvP between two well organized forces would be amazing, but how often do you really expect that to occur?

Unsure how selfishness got so ingrained in this current crop of gamer.

As someone said, the best reward for winning wvw is giving your server bonuses to stats not to mention giving your guild bonuses as well.

But, if your'e looking for pvp grindfest, you knew when u cut it on guild wars was not the game for you.  You certainly can't get on here and have barely touched most of the content and then claim bored. If you are, this wasn't the game for you anyway, and your wow sub is calling.

So why have pvp at all if its , again , just a side effect. Why not find a more DnD like way to resolve player versus player conflict. This goes back me saying create a new game.  Stop copying off the old game. PVP, what else can u do with a game?  What about a war engine? a diplomacy engine, a trade engine?  Why develope these caveman conflict resolution intiiatives that gamers (en masse) just don't like.

PVP is literally anti DnD.  Any DM will tell you, you want to slow down a session of a game. You want to create real life conflict in your group. Allow players to attack one another, steal from one another and grief one another.  Quickest campaign you'll ever run.

How does that equal the quickest campaign you will ever run?  I've been running a campaign for years that has migrated through several edition changes, and is currently on Pathfinder rules that allows all that.  The only rule I have is that I don't allow new players to create an evil character, and that is because most new players don't have any imagination on how an evil character would actually be ran.  If someone chooses to do that why stop them?  The rest of the party is the ones that have to decide to either continue adventuring with them or not.  They are the ones that have to be able to justify IC'ly that they continue to travel with someone that they know is robbing them blind or something.  I also don't force my players to a specific railroad set of actions.  If I have spent a great deal of time coming up with a plot that has a big shiny clue that the orcs are attacking from the north for example, and they completely miss it and go south then I get to wing the session because most of what I prepared is useless.  I guess I may just be more freeform than other DMs though, but I have never had any issues as a result of my way of running a game.

For the people who feel that PvP is a 12 year olds way of resolving conflict let me ask you a question.  Let's pretend you have a low int/wis half orc barbarian.  Is it so hard to believe that his way of resolving an arguement is to take a swing at the other person?

I understand that you have modified the rules of the game, but as per the rules of game players should be within one alignment of each other. It's also quite unbelievable for good players to party or travel with evil players for any length of time. Dnd was designed as a cooperative game, so actions against other players are against the design of the game.

I can only speak to the hundreds of players I've dm'd, and few would want to be apart of a campaign that was consistently derailed because the DM is not following the rules and restricting alighnment.

Say you have that orc.  Following pathfinder rules his ability score isn't lower than a 7, which is smart enough to know right from wrong.  Run your game how you want, but if you're breaking rules to allow your dm style that's on you.  If you have a player constantly derailing the campaign, trust me, your other players don't like it.

If you read goblinworks blog, you'll notice that they will change alot of gamemechanics. For example, they will have EVE-like leveling.

And I think it's right change. They would have hard time making 3.5 rules work for sanbox mmo, while on the other hand EVE has really good leveling system. I also hope thay change casting style, since I hate vencian casting.

so in other words is not really pathfinder.

BWE 2's big skill change definately changes the game for the better.

First, the world didn't end, which was nice. Second, you should be able to unlock everything pretty much at the same pace. Skill prices are lower and balanced.  We have our 1 point skills, 3 point skills and 6 point skills.  This makes for a very neat way of presenting information.

Rift: Storm Legion > GW2

Sorry But you Wish... not even near to be honest rift was a sussesfull game in release and till this day but nothing more than that ,still trion are a great company and alwais keep up whit theyr updates and patch wish is great  (not bad for  a dark age game now days) other than that not even near  rift is > gw2 sorry

I enjoy a spirited debate every now and then so lets have a go at it.

It's very obvious that both games can co-exist and do well but let's break it down by core game play features.

                                             Rift                            GW2

Dynamic Events                X                                   X

Dungeons                          X                                   X

Raids                                  X

World Bosses                   X                                   X

Battlegrounds                   X

3 Faction PvP                    X

WvW                                                                          X

Open World PvP               X

Fully Explorable World    X                                    X

Seemless World             X

GW2 simply doesn't offer the amount of core features and content that Rift does.  Spin it however you want but taking out the trinity and gear progression doesn't make the game innovative and great.  It's definitely a different take on the MMO which may be a refreshing change but to say that GW2 is superior to Rift because of these reasons is silly.

EDIT: Sorry, the formatting came out bad

Thought I'd fix this for you.

                                             Rift                            GW2

Dynamic Events                X                                   X

Dungeons                          X                                   X

Raids                                  X

World Bosses                   X                                   X

Battlegrounds                   X                                   X (I think you forgot  GW2 has an entire system for PVP teamcombat)

3 Faction PvP                    X                                  X ( you do know that GW2 is the reason many games are revisiting this. FActions are your servers.  )

WvW                                                                         X

Open World PvP               X (no, but open world PVP is pointless in a cooperative Role playing game (see all RPGs)

Fully Explorable World    X                                    X

Seemless World             X                                     X (GW2's starting zones are 1.5 times larger scale wise than the high level                                                                             Rift zones)

Rift and GW2 are not comparable.

Rift is firmly set in the holy trinity with raids and gear grinding. PvE is based on gear. PvP is based on gear. The whole point of the game is to get better gear.

GW2 has no dedicated tanks or healers. GW2's combat is much more action oriented. GW2's PvE is strategy based. GW2's PvP is skill based. The whole point of the game is to have fun.

I own both games. I've played both games. My Rift account is still active. Rift is nothing like GW2 and the expansion does very little to change that.

If the holy trinity is your porn, then rift is the best game you'll find, Rift have great developers.  HOwever, if you are looking for another type of game, GW2 is setting hte bar.  You can clearely see that at the games that are coming out. Games like neverwinter and elder scroll are using GW2 as their template for new and innovative combat.

If i had to choose a holy trin game i'd go to rift, but, like now, i'd rather just wait for something new.  I hate trudging to get levels in Rift. I hate the stand here and fire this type of combat that theo nly trinity brings and i hate competing in cooperative games.

Let's face it the D&D ruleset does not lend itself well to MMO's.  Since that is the basic design of this game, I don't think they can make it a hit no matter what else they do.  I wish them well, but they have to be really brilliant with their design to surmount that major handicap.

Eh?

...have you played 4e?

It's like someone took the old ruleset and said "lets make it play more like world of warcraft".

Believe it or not, that's why i am now kinda looking foward to this game.  4e was a great board game/ great mmo game and makes for a decent ruleset for an MMO.  I like to think that 4e was research for this game.

See, i don't think ranged have as much an advantage as you think. Melee combatters just need to know how to play the game.  Ranged fighters can stand back and fire, but do lower damage. Melee takesa  risk and have to dodge and use their healing abilities effectively.  This isn't going to change.

There havn't been two beta event?  Just the one?  But if you're judging a game by whats in beta or a stress test you're taking the wrong approach.  Even still melee worked fine for me guardian and engineer (though i want more melee options).  And both wer primarily lag free.

So why have pvp at all if its , again , just a side effect. Why not find a more DnD like way to resolve player versus player conflict. This goes back me saying create a new game.  Stop copying off the old game.
