I have been taking my time so I can try each class. I have to say, I have not seen a class more or less powered. They have their pros and cons.

Personally, I am digging the monk, wizard and demon hunter, which, for me anyway is kind of odd, because traditionally I have always favored the martial classes... Love hittin' crap with a huge ass weapon...

Linky: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-05-25-new-star-wars-franchise-to-be-unveiled-next-week

"I am blown away by both the caliber of the team on this project and their bold vision for this new 'Star Wars' title," teased Spike host Geoff Keighley.

"I can't wait to introduce our viewers to this game and show off the footage that left my jaw on the floor when I first saw it."

Spike TV has the scoop and plans to go public with more information next Thursday in its GTTV show.

It really is amazing.  For a guy who spent so much time raging against the corporatization of the movie industry and expressing his dislike for large corporations, Lucas sure has become one hell of a pimp.

This guy stopped caring about how good a product with the SW name is many, many years ago, when he realized people will flock to buy anything with the name starwars on it.

I mean, this is a guy that pachaged himself as a starwars figure and people bought the hell out of it.

Whatever it is it could literally be his crap in a box and people will be happy they spent money on it.  I love starwars fans.  Keep it up guys.

I have no idea why I quoted the OP, but I did.

Awesome, done with the rant? Talk all you want about him, he has been nothing but an innovator..BECAUSE he is so hands on. THX, yeah, one of the reasons movies sound so good, ... Motion capture, yeah, kind of came up with the first steps, you know, putting the cameras on rails that were programmed into a computer and they could do take after take..., ILM, do I really need to say more about that? And Pixar...

He might suck making movies these days, but the guy is a full on innovator, because you got butthurt about a video game? His legacy will trump your bruised behind... That simple.

Did Shilling already sell "The Sock"? Get back in front of that camera at ESPN, buddy.

Serious note, between him and the team that was assembled to form this company and make this game, some true heavyweights, how much are these dudes really sitting on?

I know what I made last year and due to what I assume to be a clerical error, the Commenwealth of Virginia wants me to pay back the unemployment I have gotten since my contract ran out, why do these jokers get the day off?

This Diablo 3 soap is even better then Age of Conan and WAR right after release.

So he didn't have an Authenticator, kind of left that out didn't you? Not saying it is a panacea (look it up) but it TOTALLY helps...

Enough of this one sided "reporting", makes yourself look like you have an agenda...

I have not once bought an MMO based on a review. I tend not to even read them. I know if I am interested in something and if I am I am willing to take a chance on purchasing whatever it is.

Their review here. I'm rather suprised, actually. When Assassin's creed 2 came out, they gave it a great review, but told their readers not to buy it due to the always-online DRM.

D3 also got at good review, and they hammered the DRM, but they offered the following advice: "If you’re a friend, and you ask me whether you should get it, I’d ask if you have a fast and reliable connection. I’d make you aware of the problems beyond that, slander Blizzard a bit, then say this: God yes. "

Interesting difference a few years makes, or is it something else? Now my tinfoil hat is too tight.

Where did they wuss out? The person said that they have a beef with having to have the game always connected, but that if a friend were to ask them if they should get the game, they say yes... Why the need for the tin foil hat?

If I really, REALLY liked the pizza from Chuck E. Cheese and you asked me if it was worth going, I would warn you first about the children... those damn annoying children... but on the power of their pizza alone I would tell you, yes, YES! Go, go partake the bounty that is pizza from Chuck E. Cheese...

That is kinda what the reviewer was getting at.

I'm sorry but it HAS to be said.

This LOOKS like a Carbon-Copy of WoW. I'm going to start calling this art-style "WoWlyzed Art".

I'll say it again, if people want WoW they'll play WOW ffs!!!

I try...HEAVILY....to avoid calling things WoW-clones. I think Alganon was the only one I did it for, and that was because they quite literally lifted textures from WoW up until fans bithced during beta!

And even still, having watched this video and having played KoA:Reckoning, it's hard to see this game as anything but highly inspired by WoW. The masonry and architecture look good, but my god the vegetation...2005 called, they want their horrible trees back.

On the upside, if this uses KoA's combat, it will be a LOT of fun. That was the one thing that game did right. It was like haivng Dynasty Warrior style battles in a WoW setting.

If that's what you are looking for then that is what you are going  to find.

I love the way it looked. I also REALLY enjoyed the music. Will be nice to see this game come to release, if just for the world glimpsed in the video.

And the bad user reviews cannot come in fast enough. I was fortunate enough to beta test the game before launch and was left completly unimpressed. I am noticing the reviews are reflecting what my beta input stated. I wrote incredibly detailed lenghty messages on the beta test forums but let's be honest, it is far easier for Blizz to just stand up on the table, unbuckle their belt, pull down their pants and drop a gigantic steaming pile of shit onto your plate.

If you didn't like the game, and are not playing it, why the post? Is this a little bit of the I Told You So Syndrome?

Let me see, I am not a teenager either and I am having a blast playing this game. Never read Metacritic, I am pretty good at deciding for myself...

Or maybe it's just time to realize that the audience for MMORPG is no longer a bunch of people who want to play the same game for a year or more. Theme park or not, sandbox or not, 3 months will be the Mean Play Time and 6 months will the be Max Play Time for most players. The details will be different - # of initial sales, peak initial subscriptions, and steady state subscriptions will all be a bit different depending on a lot of different factors, but the general trend will continue because of the audience, not the games.

I don't think this is true of everyone at all, but I agree there is a segment out there who are uber-casual who don't care to stick around a game that long.  However, more and more people are blowing through themepark content, and then bitching and moaning on forums like this as well as official forums, because they are already bored.  THAT is a design problem, and it's a business problem from the perspective of trying to keep your customers around.

The only reason people see these games as 3-6 month experiences is because that is all they offer anyway.  Look at EVE.  Sure, you can point out that it is a niche game, but I believe if there was a high quality hybrid or full sandbox that was more traditional instead of space based, it would be a fairly large and long-term hit.  Many players in EVE have been playing for years, and there is no theme park content to speak of.

You need to stop thinking so dichotomously.  This isn't a black and white subject.  I am talking to those people out there who are looking for a longer experience in their MMO games, not the A.D.D crowd who hop MMOs as often as they can.  Besides, according to what I read around gaming forums, most people leave their current MMO game because they get bored, not because something better comes along.

That is a PLAYER problem. There is absolutely nothing in these games that forces people to race to max, kill all the content then piss about it. that is totally on the players.

And as far as sandboxes. I have seen people posting about EvE not having enough content... Don't the players make their own in that game?

Mine would probably not have PvP unfortunatly as, at least in my experience, most of the "hardcore" PvPers are friggin douchebags.

Yes i am raging.

This is not okay. If a company in a another industry did this they would loose customers in heaps. They are pissing at us because they know they can. Blizzard has become too lenient.

And why why why why have a server login for a part-singleplayer game..... even more stupid when you cant manage your servers like the should.

Who else is getting this bullshit now? 20 hours after launch... good goind blizz.

Wow, you can see that they are doing emergency maintenance, just look at their forums...

The minute one of you moves cross country to be with this "relationship"...well I just don't know...

Maybe that launcher sucks, but have you seen that log in screen!?!?

If that is in the ToS, I see no problem. That mods reply makes perfect sense to me.

Why is it a monstrosity?

The beta is over. After my game abruptly checked back to the login screen I came here to relay experiences, stories, and general vibe of the game. I'm finding a lot of speculation, unfair judgement, and flat-out lying going on around here. I'm not sure whats possessing people to be this way. I still think its best if the record is set straight though. Regardless, everyone will surely know of GW2 upon release day once it is critically reviewed (and crowned XD, jk, jk..maybe).

First and foremost there ARE balancing issues. Lets get this dillusion that the game is perfect out of our heads. Its not and will never be. It is, however, very close to achieving balance given that were talking about a game with no set release date here.

Many of the story segmants are actually TOO hard while many of the dynamic events are too easy. Some adjusting will likely be done there.

The norn and human stories are pretty good. This is definately opinion and preference heavy but the only other MMO that has matched the intrigue I had with my characters story in GW2 was SWTOR. The two tell their tales extremely differently though. I will elaborate. SWTOR tells sweeping storylines that are extremely good  in the middle and lifeless in the beginning and end (at least for me). GW2 tells stories in short bursts basically. A certain section of your story will climax with you destroying a portal or something then a completely new adventure will begin. It is a very chapter oriented way of telling stories.

There are some positives and drawbacks to this. The positive is there is far less time being spent in boring limbo where nothing interesting is happening. You are always right around the corner from some big climax. The drawback is there isn't really much room for character development here. You also don't have much time to build up to the climaxes. Making them less engaging than in SWTOR (only comparing the two as they are virtually the only MMO's with any focus on story); however, there are more of them. So it really depends on how you like your stories. If you like short stories then you will probably like GW2's style better. If you like long sweeping novels you would probably enjoy SWTOR's style of storytelling more.

Personally, even though there is little room for character development, I enjoyed GW2's stories more than my one SWTOR story. Simply because I spent more time in curiosity and intrigue and did not feel like I was just going through a filler storyline until I'm higher level to get to the true climax. There was always an epic climax right around the corner.

Hell, within minutes of starting in the norn area I was in what was basically a 20 man raid against a giant ice worm that busted through the ground in front of me. I didn't have to sit around and shout for healers or organize anything. The event just happened and the players followed the event and all was glorioius.

Now that the delusions of grandeur are out of the way lets take a critical eye to the slight overexagerations. Be forewarned that I am about to address what could be considered opinions. If that bothers you then you may just want to hit reply and skip what I will say next.

The first thing I noticed was an assessment that the GW2 forums were "mostly negative". This is what I can only describe as a lie. Is that harsh? Maybe. From what I've seen the GW2 forums were the most overwhelmingly positive forums I've ever seen for a game period. There are those who are dissapointed but unlike every single other game forum (can't stress that enough) there are, literally--just counted, only two people who were generally dissapointed. Only 1 out of the two just didn't like the game. The rest of what I presume this man (or women) was talking about must have been the plethora of suggestions from the community. Which is a little unfair, seeing as how its beta the community is expected to actively post feedback and you are encouraged to tell all about what you think could be improved.

I feel this may have been a case of someone attempting to convince themselves that they are right by trying to make it seem like they hold the more powerful majority opinion. Rest assured, the majority opinion is resoundingly positive.

     On to the next.

People seem to be being overly harsh or falsley representing the dynamic events. For example one man (or women) posted his disdain for an event to hit children with snowballs. For one the event offers three seperate things you can do. You don't have to hit the kids with snowballs if you don't want, you can also kill the bees around threatening the children. Not every DE is going to be this epic struggle. Ironically, however, he failed to mention that after playing with the kids and hunting for some meat to give to the norn hunter he proceeds to smoke the meat. The child, wishing to impress his father, asks for your help in killing a great stag. After its death the kids perform a ritual, of sorts, to the bear spirit. It goes somewhat awry however and you find the whole village being attacked by hordes and hordes of bears. You watch in real time as the father rushes the kids inside and all the village warriors gather to quell the onslaught.

Players from the area come swooping down the hills to help in the fight. You see, what he failed to mention is that little tiny event did actually lead into something overwhelmingly epic.

Most of the DE chains are like this (in fact I think they all are? correct me if I'm wrong. I've never been in a DE chain that didn't end in some epic battle). Another man complained about killing gnolls for a raven spirit. Again, yes you CAN kill the gnolls. or gather the ravens eggs. Or you can burn down gnoll hutts. Any of those will help progress the event. After that event you go up to the ravens shrine to answer a series of riddles. They aren't incredably challenging but it was a little unique.

In conclusion here, not all events are going to be this giant apocolypse immenent situation. Some are small scale things that you CAN do. Remember they are events. You can just keep walking if you don't want to participate.

I find it truly stunning that anyone can walk away from this game and say anything bad about it to be completely honest with you. It was fun and exciting from start to finish.

So glad you were here to set that record straight!

Low production costs?

The combat is arguably of comparably bad quality to SWToRs, the focus of  the game is story i.e. SWToRs focus, there seems to be little group content i.e. it's mostly solo like SWToR.

Is this game just trying to fill the story-driven horror niche, or how does anybody expect this game to survive?

The only thing holding SWToR afloat is the Starwars IP. Nothing else.

WIll Lovecraft fans be the only ones keeping this game alive? Compared to Starwars fans they are few and far between.

I don't know. It just seems like with all of the great alternatives that it's going to make it very hard for people to justify paying a subscription fee.

It will TOTALLY be like Star Wars, you already have that burned into your brain... No gettin away now...

I am one of those audience members. I really enjoyed my beta time, sure, there were some beta issues, thats because it is a TEST.

Yeah, some of the quests seemed tried and "true", if you gave them a chance you saw that there was a bit more behind them.

The atmosphere and presentation, I am sold. I dig it.

YEAH! They didn't spend a dime on this game...
