Experienced MMO Player's "No Bullshit" Review of Aion
General Discussion « Aion 10/23/09 2:34:43 AM
Review was pretty much right on target, but I also disagree with the graphics rating. I would probably give it a good over the awesome. The graphics are nice, but there are better looking MMO's out or coming out (AoC, Global Agenda, APB). |

APB BETA STARTS NEXT WEEK! :)
General Discussion « All Points Bulletin (APB) 10/09/09 7:52:44 PM
I don't mind delays, but they should let the community know just to keep us in the loop. Players that are left out of the loop usually aren't too happy and are less likely to play. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Evidence of Microtransactions in ToS?
News Discussion « General Discussion 10/02/09 12:48:32 AM
Depends on what these micro transactions are to be honest. Champions Online has MTs and they don't affect the game whatsoever at this point, though this could change. As long as thegs MTs do not affect the game or shift balance of the game then I'm all for it, minor things like cosmetics and non combat pets would fit along these lines, in NO way, shape, or form should they implement something like most Korean MMOs where you get damage and exp boosters, weapons and armor, or powers and attacks if they do implement this, then I feel that this will only kill the game before it gets off the ground. |

The 100 players per server is GENIOUS!!
General Discussion « All Points Bulletin (APB) 9/17/09 4:42:20 AM
I would much rather prefer 1000 people per server, I think that would honestly make things a little bit more interesting and may chaotic at the same time for the players; allow more different gangs to try and set up territory and larger battles. However, I can understand the limitation in the populations per server, considering the advanced graphics engine they are using, it could make things pretty laggy to try and render large numbers of players. |

I'm going to school to be a cop so I kinda wanna be the bad guy lol. |

The character creator alone I feel is worth the price of the game, it's so ridiculously more advanced than any other creator out. |
|
|
Awesome, a game that I don't have to worry about paying monthly fees for. Also for 100 people per server I wouldn't buy it if it had a monthly sub. |

The Secret World: Screenshots and Faction Artwork
News Discussion « General Discussion 9/17/09 4:23:12 AM
According to a lot of gaming sites AoC had the closest to perfect launch to date as far as mmo's go. While I do feel that AoC was a great game with a highly innovative combat system, Funcom rushed to push the game out at a bad time; everyone in the gaming industry knows you don't release an MMO at the beginning of the summer. The beginning of summer is the worst time to release an MMO simply because you need to be on top of your game to keep players happy, which sadly they were not. We all know that at the beginning of summer that's when everyone gets out from school and with no school there is loads of free time to spend on the computer playing to your heart's content, it was because of this that guilds in AoC cleared content incredibly fast and Funcom was unable to keep up with the player base who by near end summer had cleared all functioning content and some even learned to find a way to down closed content (I know because I was one of them) with nothing to do players became bored with the same old content and began to leave. The smart thing to have done is release the game near a holiday so that though players get maybe a week or so off they still have enough time to play, yet are limited in game time when their vacation is over so that, Funcom has time to work on fixing and adding things while the player base is still tied up with their IRL duties. However, negative I may come off as please do not assume that I am flaming Funcom because to be honest I have great love for their ability to bring something new and creative to the table. To this day I have yet to see an MMO with as fun as a combat system of AoC, hell even the new Star Wars MMO has nothing really new as far as combat goes and that game isn't set to release till next year. I just really hope that Funcom learned from their mistake in AoC so they don't make a similar one in this game, which I honestly don't think they will because they did learn from their mistake in AO and didn't repeat it so much in AoC. |

I really like this idea, I think game devs should get on it. New MMO genres usually do really well in the beginning hopefully there will be a zombie survival mmo in the near future. |

So is there still no drug dealing or prostitution, AKA crime for criminals to do?

In the new update enforcers vs. criminals it was already stated that gangs can kill other gang members for control of turf though I'm not sure how they'll know territory boundries. I think it's also more than just 100 players online, it maybe 100 players per instance. Devs said that players are matched up with players of similar skill and dispatched to the location of the crime etc etc. I do agree that it does sound like an instance with virtual lobby, but it's still early on and there really isn't too much info on the game just yet. My post was probably deleted, but I'll say it again. Drugs while they are a major part of many gangs are not a part of all gangs. Devs prolly didn't want to put drugs into the game because our society views drugs and prostitution as a taboo, so much so it is even frowned upom to even talk about. Probably due to the fact that the older generation was raised to view drugs as the worst possible thing therefore they view it as a big "No no". Most parents would avoid this game if it said anything about drugs and prostitutes in game, which would be unfortunate because many MMO are younger generation, not to say that all gamers require parent's permission, but a slightly younger generation also is a big source of revenue, so in order to appeal to the gamer without pissing off parents is removing those two elements. My personal feelings on this matter is that they should have used drugs as an element in this game because like I said, even though not all gangs deal with drugs many do and this would have made for better story and game. On the other hand, prostitution is something that was better off taken out of the game because pimping prostitutes really isn't an area explored by gangs; very rarely do gangs go down this path usually it's organized crime or an individual that pursue this as a source off income. This is not to say there aren't any gangs that deal with prostitution, but the only ones I've really heard about that deal with this is usually biker gangs. |

Poll: Do you want FFXIV to be aimed at the casual user the same way that WoW is?
General Discussion « Final Fantasy XIV 7/07/09 2:24:45 AM
I would definitely like it if they made it a little more casual player friendly. I mean as players grow older and such they develop more and more responsibilities limiting the time they can devote to a game so by making a little bit more casual friendly may pull in more players in the long run. One problem I did have with FFXI was that if you didn't play for a month your character was deleted. I personally hated this feature because I like to jump around and play pretty much every new mmo that comes out to see how they play; now to delete a character that I work so hard on, only discourages me as a player/customer I only hope that when this comes out this will not be a feature in the game. Another problem I had with FFXI was the lack of quests in the game, there was only a handful of quests and most of the game revolved around grinding. Now before people get on me for QQing about grinding; I've grinded before in Everquest one of first MMOs, which the only way to level was to grind, but that was then and this is now. We've come a long way from those games and a little more side story couldn't hurt, I enjoy reading quest text and learning more about the world, but when a game only has grinding what's the point? Having an NPC ask you to kill some snakes or something because they need materials to make boots adds to the immersion a little; killing crawlers ten thousand times not so much. I'm not asking the dev's to dumb this game down to retard level like WoW, by adding in all these things to make you level up faster like rested exp, bonus exp weekends, recruit a friend, and all that nonsense, but maybe just make things a tad bit more casual player friendly. |

Scariest Moment: Being stranded alone in Lower Guk during my first visit because my entire party is killed, but being hidden as a rogue I survive and have to creep my way back.
Second Scariest Moment: Upon exiting Rivervale to Kithicor Forest, i spotted a corpse of a ghoul a few feet a way near a tree apparently unlooted. As I run over and loot it I turn to see a high level undead commanded standing behind said tree, he Harm's Touches me killing me instantly. (At that time I did not know the undead come out in Kithicor at night)
Fondest Moment: Finding a piece of banded mail armor on the ground fairly early into launch. (Everyone was soooo jealous I had shiny pants)
Second Fondest Moment: Being recognized as the most powerful and well known merchant on my server (Brecca Bargainhunter Tunare).
Third Fondest Moment: Drunken raids on Neriak with my first guild "The Pygmey Coalition"
Most aggravating moment: When they released Moon of Luclin. (The Bazaar forever ruined my ability to trade with players one on one.) |

To be totally honest? No definitley no. WoW in short is a really dumbed down version of EQ, the game is much different from what you've grown accustomed to in WoW. Leveling in EQ took FOREVER when I played and dying meant losing hours worth of experience with the exp loss you had to recover your corpse because when you died you revived butt naked. Quests were scarce and there were no maps to places every destination had to be memorized. Unless they fixed it NPC's could attack you regardless of distance if they were directly above you or below you. I have fond memories of the game I do admit, but I wouldn't revisit EQ just because I'll spoil my memories by remembering why I also hated the game. |

I think this game has a real shot at being the biggest MMO in History

Agreed, though I hope this game does well; APB won't draw in nearly as much numbers as WoW. Before you guys jump on me allow me to explain; WoW is a game with mediocre graphics and really doesn't require a high end PC to run it. WoW if anything is more RAM heavy than vid card. Not many players will be able to run this game without upgrading or buying a new rig due to the ridiculous graphics, but will still have a decent size player base like Age of Conan at launch. Though the Unreal 3 engine doesn't need a high end card to run it, I think it will still require some upgrades seeing as some people out there are playing WoW with a 1994 Dell or w/e lol, dated PCs like that will require a massive overhaul or a complete replacement. I wouldn't expect any block busting numbers anytime soon, however given enough time it is possible. |

I had to pick the last option lol. On a more serious note, while large raids are loads of fun, if you can put them together, they require far too much time and organization to put together. IMHO I also feel large raids take away from the realism, bear with me now, I know what some people are gonna say "It's not real get over it." Don't you think it's a little ridiculous and maybe overkill to see 40 or so force users attacking a single NPC? I think that 10-15 would be better and more easliy managable than a large number of players. |

WoW can be killed, however game developers boast too much causing gamers to expect too much, thus in turn causing a game to fail. Age of Conan boasted this for the longest time pre launch and look where it ended up. I'm not going to bach AoC though because I too was the same way, I bought into the "WoW Killer" and was disappointed upon reaching lvl 80 and completeing all endgame instances/raids before the end of the summer of its launch. In order for a game to beat the beast known as WoW the game can't brag about how awesome it's going to be; just simply do. This is a common mistake that all MMO's are making nowadays they promise too much and they can't deliver the goods. The best thing to do is tell the fans what you can do, not what you want to do. |
