Half the people on these boards pay $100+ a month for their cell service/data plan. I spend far more hours playing a good MMO then I do putzing around my phone, so 30 bucks is a no brainer.

Killed your review from that on, mmorpg shouldn't review moba games if they don't understand anything about them.

Another terrible review of this game by the mmorpg staff. I am far from a fanboy of ffxiv, this game needs an incredible amount of work to get where it needs to go. But even I can see that this game has come a really long way, and it sounds like patch 1.19 is going to be another huge leap forward.

I've been a member of this site for a lot of years now, and I rarely feel the need to post, but this really stood out as an exceptionally poor review of a game. Dissapointing, you can do better.

All I know is that I've had a blast playing FFXIV so far. I've met some great people and I'm looking forward to the game going live. As far as I am concerned, thats all that matters. If I log in and enjoy myself, I'll keep playing. When I stop enjoying myself, I'll stop playing. There doesn't need to be all this drama about it. Why the trolls feel the need to repeatedly visit the forum of games they have no interest in makes no sense. They will derail an interesting thread like this and try forcing their opinions on fans of the game as if by getting someone to agree with them it somehow validates their argument and makes them more "right" then the rest of us.

Understand this, opinion is opinion. No matter how cleverly you try and phrase it, or how witty your insults, as someone who has never played the game or has no interest in continuing to play the game you are never going to convince me that the game I am enjoying isn't worth playing. I am sure you have your reasons for not playing it, everyone has different priorities when it comes to choosing an MMO to play, and I would never try and tell someone that just because I like FFXIV they should too. But it works both ways. Just because there are things you don't like about it, why do you feel the need to go out of your way to troll forums of games you aren't interested in?

Hell, at $15 a month x 2 (for me right now)... I can just buy a new SA game every other month and be saving money.

If you don't like what the dev's are saying, you should probably do that. I don't think anything too big is going to change in the next year or two from what we're playing right now.

Lucky for people like me, I still somewhat enjoy the current batch of MMO's. I'm really looking forward to the slight (but much needed) tweaks to the forumla that the upcomming batch of MMO's are bringing.

FFXI is the only one of the 3 that will have any real production value and thus any long-term player base.

The other 2 are going the way of Aion, super hype but in the end grindy/unbalanced pieces of crap that everyone quits 3 months after release.

I don't post often, but I wanted to say, great article. Its rare for me to agree with every single point that people post in an article like this, but I found myself nodding my head in agreement as I was reading through it.

I was wondering the same thing. When one of the greatest mmo's ever made (at the very least in terms of story and community) hurts you to the core its hard to take the rest of what you say too seriously. Maybe your looking for more of a single player game that you can chat with other people on?

Let me preface this by saying, I love this site. I've come here every day for years to read the articles and check the messageboards, though I have never felt the need to post myself before.

That being said, this article was trash.

Its entire purpose seemed to be defending the game from people who attack it. I don't know much about the game, and after reading the article, I still don't know much about it. All I know is whoever wrote it was really excited about it (from the spam of exclamation marks they litter the article with) and that the game isn't generally well liked as he feel's the need to repeatedly throw in comments "address[ing] the surge of negativity during beta and since". He makes general comparisons between it and the rest of the mmo market, saying how much better Darkfall does things then other games. Its hard to believe this game really does everything better then all of the other mmo's out there, yet the author refuses to mention even the smallest of problems that the game has (unless its to say that it was a problem, but its fixed now!).

In the end, it just feels like a fanboi's ranting. I was really dissapointed reading this article and I am hoping that the trend doesn't continue. For whatever reason, Darkfall has always been a hotbutton issue on this site, but I never really thought it would affect the staff as well. I'm going to chalk it up to just being a poorly written article and hope to not see any more like it.
