a bunch of us have also to get Global Agenda added (a upcoming, spy-scifi mmo), with no luck. i dont know their procedures of adding games to their list, but listening to their community isent apart of it

Well there are many theories, i can only give you mine.

The reason Reproduction. We humans know we are alive, and know we are gonna die, and that scares the shit out of us.
We want become immortal and the closest thing to that is Reproduction, IE sex. and we also want make sure we can survive the longest possible time, and if there's fewer people around you, there's fewer people to possible kill you and less battle for resources, I.E. we love violence, as long as it dosent happen to us, I.E. we love violence that happens to other people.
Conclusion, we love sex and violence because we are scared shitless about death.

 

well we have seen this kinda game before, alot of great ideas with AWFUL grahpics, and it was called Dark and Light. Im sorry to say it, but this whole darkfall is dnl all over agian, and it is a shame because  I LOVE  sandbox  games  with great pvp, but the graphics are at least 10 years  old..

sorry but 10 year old graphics, with alot of good ideas has been tried before, and it was called Dark and Light. I will personally eat rainworms if Darkfall turnes into a remotely success (200k concurremt subscribers) . Dont get me wrong, all the ideas darkfall is good, kinda sandbox with great pvp, which is excactly the kinda mmo i like, but when i se the sceenshots and the videoes, it see DnL all over agian..

As i understand it, there will be pve/pvp hyrbid servers, (where duels, and the boarder kingdom will be the only pvp battels you can join) (the rest pure pve for all the carebears :-))
And FFA pvp servers(where you can kill everyone, all the damn 'people' who dare to block your view, all the 'individuals' who think you arent better than them 'cough cough (got side tracked) /sarkasm)

Perhaps, but with a 185^2 i doubt it, but you never know. It will all defend on the meens of travel, and travel speed. (how fast mounts go, and if there will be a form of  teleportation)

I'm going to have to go VERY slow here for you to understand, I can see. Obviously that's not what I said.

The map that was posted is the world that Robert E. Howard wrote, his version of the world was essentially earth, 10,000 years ago.

Now...let me start going slower so you can catch up, and I'll try not to use big words to confuse you.

The map posted is the ENTIRE Hyborian world.

The area that is placed into the game is NOT the entire Hyborian world, it's 4 countries, Cimmeria, Stygia, Aquilonia, and Border Kingdoms.

Still with me so far? Not going too fast am I?

Now, what Funcom has done, is to chosoe areas from those 4 countries, their representation of the world in game, of 185sq. miles is going to cover those 4 countries. Obviously it will not be able to cover all of it. In game will be the areas that Funcom believes are the most enjoyable, and interesting.

Do I need to keep explaining, or are you able to understand at this point?

Easy to fear for the future of the world when you have to go this slow.....

Large enough so we will se Area priced Goods (some goods are cheeper/expensive in some areas than other, because of the location of the minerals etc.)

If you want RL perspective, the way Howard wrote it, and described it, his world is Earth about 10,000 years ago, so what you are looking at is, Europe, Africa, Middle East, and Asia.

Um.. put on your glasses so you can see the map legend in the bottom right. Of course in game it has been scaled to 500 sq miles... but that is still huge.

OH missed that.. still abit worried dough, but hey. It is only healthy. and as they say, Hope for the best, but expect the worst..

 

 

Side note. I find it funny that a Norwegian company choose to measure the thing in miles and not Kilometres. Im not pissed about it or anything, i just find a strange, they use the metric system in Norway (as most of the rationel part of the world do )

well it is hard to jugde that when you got nothing to define the size, but it dosent look big to me :-(

it dosent really take any additional thole on the servers that theres alot of graphics, because polygon's them selves are client side only. and remember we arent talking 3k people in one zone at the time, we are talking 3k on a entire server at the time, so that's a few hundred per zone I would guess. besides they states in previous that you can turn the graphics down, pretty much..

3k people per server? you must be kiddin me. that must be a mistake, because they call it a mmorpg, Massive multiplayer online Role play Game. 3k isent massive. if i want to play games with few people per server, i would play SWG agian, or take up vanguard..

#3 still 479 km^2 is rather small for a mmo. Especially its suppose to be next gen. kk maby they will be rather quick with releaseing new content/continents. Still worries me. EG. think how small the boarder kingdoms will be, especially if there will be like 10k people on a server at time. hope they include a push people aside skill :-/

 

Paragus1  those are official numbers m8. maby it just feels wrong because it was to long ago you played them. (those arent included exps dough). i remember playing Ac2 (im also a ac2vet) thinkign it was big, when it only was 25 miles^2, but now i realise how small it really was, especially after i started playing SWG some years back.

how large will the final game be? iv found many different sizes on the net, spanning from a small 500 km2 to a high of thousands.

 

Heres some other sizes
SWG (all worlds) - 2025
Horizons - 1024
WoW - 950
AC1 - 576
EQ1 - 144
UO - 49.

 

if it is 500km2 it is a really small mmorpg. i sure hope it will be bigger than that, because exploration dosent mean anything, if the world will be smaller than even ac1. im a pre NEG SWG Vet, and we had space problems on the chrimera server, which as you can se had 2025 km2 size..

and plz tell me in km2 not miles..

i dont care, i like Vista, i like it better than XP, and im having to trouble at all gaming wise. Xp had many things about it i dident like, that vista has corrected, like the Games menu option (xp just created a menu in the startbar, vista can figure out that it is a game and create a shortcut to a games folder, very smart. Besides vista has very smart search funktions which i use all the time..

well some little wow fan boy is mad that people of his guild is planing to leave for Aoc, and he cant join them because of the M rating :-)

(i think DnL had something like that in their concept(sure DnL was scambait (and i was one of the idiots who prepaid :-/), but the idea is still good).

I would also love a player run bounty hunter system, like that had in SWG (only with all classes), not just a npc run system, like they are planing...

I love GvG battles, dough it shouldent be like an agreement. it sould be like  if one side desides,

"i want more space, more resources and more of that goooood power",

" and that nabour of ours looks pretty weak, lets destroy him",

they should be able to make a declaration of war that activates within a few hours (gives both a chance to mass the troops".).

This is from what iv read, also the way they intend to make Aoc gvg battles (with the tent, sieges etc). But i think, it shouldent just be confined to the boarder kingdom area, if 2 people both from the apposing sides, meets each other in a markets place far away from the battle, they should be able to kill each other.. No safe areas for guild battles :-)=.
