Being just a few people working on the game, they solicited a small amount of money from people who wanted to be in it. I think was to cover cd costs and duping. Was back when broadband was not as common so beta discs got sent to you.
Good to know you dont have to pay a nickel for Darkfall then, aint it?
This is what you would call, really late to the party. After wathcing the video a couple times it looks like the gunners on the ships were probably npc's. Have they said anyihing about that, Manning the guns can by done by pc's but if you don't have enough it will fill in the spots. Because that last ship could probably handle a quild all by itself if everyone had to man up a gun?

I never, ever, ever made any statement saying you had to pay in any way for Darkfall beta. I know it for a fact, because I am signed up for the beta. I really, really do know you don't need any money for it. What made you people all get on the crazy train from that little comment about what some companies did for a beta practice 10 years ago, escapes me. Cool down a bit. I was just noting there were similarities in the long dev cycle for both games and the advertised features. One has released, one has not. Will the second go better? It was meant to spur discussion. Can everyone forget about the money comment and move on please. |

You are really, really failing on this one. Did you notice the part about why they wanted a few bucks. Back then, they actually had to print and mail cd's to everyone that would be in beta. They were a small, indy development group. It made sense at the time. I know I didn't pay for the beta SWG discs. I can't remember if I had to pay for the UO beta disc I got sent. I really don't know what makes this insignificant little point of process from years ago so important to you. edit: Oh, and just for further clarification. This was literally years before Shadowbane was even ready for it's first beta. By then, I think broadband was more common and no one was charged. They could download the client. |

Okay, so if one part of a comparison is not true, that makes every other part of a comparison simply invalid? I wish I could do that in every situation. Make my life easier. I never listed specifically, Darkfall info to go point by point. I ONLY listed Shadowbane info and left it for people to make their own conclusions. Now we see what they are I guess. |

I have finally figured out what this all reminds me of. Small studio, in production for long time, big list of features that seems to be a wet dream for lots of gamers. Shadowbane. I can remember way back when EQ and UO had just started. Wolfpack had put up a website and they were working on a game. Would be awesome, pvp centric, cool ai and city building, etc, etc. My roommate even sent in the 5 or 10 dollars that they were collecting to be in the beta when they got to that stage. Then pretty much forgot about them as development went on and on. Now we know. It did finally release. And what a state it was in. Bugs, exploits, whole town of characters getting teleported to the bottom of the ocean to die. Lots of quality gaming. But, it is still around, people still play it and that means there are people that like it. Just feel better now knowing what was bugging me with all the Darkfall hype. We are looking at possibly, Shadowbane the second coming. Should be cool to see if they get off to a better start. |

Most likely not the same issue at all, but it did happen to me just last night. I tried logging in and it was giving me an error right away. I had been playing earlier in the day so it was working. Turned out that when I logged off, warpatch.bin had stayed running. I found it in my processes. Once I killed that, the patcher started working normally for me again and I could log in. |

Well......considering some people would say "Pong" is better than AOC. Not sure how to take this. |

Looks Like We are Getting Our Sandbox Back
SWG Veteran Refuge « Star Wars Galaxies 9/04/08 7:43:40 PM
It might be sandboxy, but it doesn't look like it will hold a candle to the original skill system in Star Wars. I loved being able to be anything, any combination of anything and then change if I wanted. What is more free than that. I have been taking a look at Darkfall though. Will wait to see if they release an ACTUAL gameplay video and not 17 minutes of scripted camera work. Was basically a sales and promotion tool more than anything that really tells how the game would play. And, judging by responses of the various enemies, there was at least some fighting between players and npc's. Or it could have been the famous beta testing bots. Until they can show me a playable game and not a movie done in the game engine, I have to reserve judgement. Would be cool if they deliver though. Gotta have my fingers crossed I guess.

Did AoC combat spoil things for WAR?
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 8/24/08 7:56:56 AM
Yeah, I have to agree with the OP. I was really hoping for more in combat than we got. The old system of pull with button 1, hit them with button 2 as they close, then cycle buttons 3, 4, 5 till opponent dead. I was hoping for something more. Even if they had gone back to DAOC and just tweaked it. AOC combat would have been even better though. I liked needing to pay attention, watching what the opponents shields were doing. Then picking the combo needed to push the damage through their weak spot. Or DAOC as mentioned, you had a few different 2 and 3 move combos. Some required a prereq to go off like block or parry or evade. It allowed you to preload a move and then back it up with a vanilla move just in case the condition didn't occur. Would have been nice. |

Issue with online pre order CE best buy
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 8/07/08 8:06:40 PM
For the OP. If you have a Best Buy near you, I would go see if they have a CE version on the shelf. They really are not all sold out like is being said. Last week I bought 2 copies of the CE at Best Buys near me. And that left 2 more still on the shelf. And it really is the CE version. I have already put in my code on my beta app and it says I have the CE preorder. |

Have to agree with solareus. From beta to launch to general day to day, LOTRO has consistently been very stable and dependable. I have confidence they will recover from their first major glitch and be back on track. You can't make any conclusions from a test sample of 1. Trends are where the real answers lie. |

Well, you might be happy with the game never getting changed or expanded in any way. I would like to see my monthly fee going to improvements, additions, more fun stuff to do. Surprisingly, a large game played by lots of people on widely varying hardware logging in from all over the world and made up of miles of code can have the occasional issues. ooohhh...ugly sentence... Anyhow, their few QA testers relative to game populations and normally underpopulated test servers can let bugs slip by. I agree that consumers should stand up and not be expected to pay and pay for nothing. I also believe that reality needs to be part of life as well. Even if it sucks now and again. |

Yes, it pretty much happens in all mmo's no matter how long they have been around. EQ, AO, SWG, etc, etc. When it was big patch day, you hoped to be back on at some time. EVE has been around for quite a while and they always say to set a long skill before they go down on patch day because you never know if a problem will occur. Playing EQ, it was considered normal after a big patch for something to pop up and the game get taken down again for a while. Just give them some time and you will be playing again. Has been a part of mmo's since mmo's started. |

Because Gods and Heroes is still in closed beta. So makes sense it would be on the beta list. |

Just to put it out there. I am fine with you caring enough to feel slighted by what has occured. Telling people your opinion is totally normal and expected. I just don't know what you hope to gain from it. Honestly. I have been playing MMO"s since The Realm and Meridian 59, was in UO's beta test, have played in most major western releases for some amount of time. That all said. There is always something that a group of people will glom on to and complain about. To varying degrees. Can just mention SWG in mixed company and a flame war could start. They took the teeth out of EQ so much to make it a kids game from what it started like. The list goes on.
Do your duty, hold up the supposed facts for all to hear and have some discussion. It is the right thing. I just have gotten too tired of it over the years to be able to generate that fervor. Now, I do the only thing a person really can do. If you are having fun, play. If they do something you don't like, leave. If you aren't having fun, leave. The money is what talks and as long as there is some to be made, it will take more than a few voices. But I always hold out hope for the next thing that comes along to be better. Always an optimist in the end and like to think the best of everyone. I applaud your desire to see things set right. Even if I don't necessarily agree. |

And it is a real good thing that people don't sometimes copy and sell some of those tech 2 prints so that others end up building things. Oh my, just think, if there were ways like that for average everyday joes to build tech 2 things. All heck would break loose. |

So, is that why the corps are complaining about loss of profit because the bottom is falling out of the t2 market and the prices of things have come down so much. They are having talks about looking for new revenue streams to replace the losses in t2 sales. Boy, it sucks when prices come down and more people can afford to buy things.
