Name a game that isn't an mmo, that you wish was

I am almost always fitted with weapons or talismans I made myself.
Sure, you can use the stuff you make in GW2, but I don't need 12 sets of pants. Gotta level the skill though, make more, make more. |

Story mode cutscenes, instant escape button
General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 9/02/12 10:36:16 PM
I found the cutscenes tiresome after only a short while. Really though, I got into the old habit of blowing through all that because GW2 does the old hand holding and spoon feeding to epic proportions. You just bring up the map, get told where to go, get told what to do, blah, blah, blah.

A short, hate-free summary by a current level 80.

Originally posted by Sideras This really doesn't qualify as smooth with the various infrastructure systems so up and down. Sure, you can play the game as it is. Just play the game. No trading or guarantees you'll be in the same zone with your group, etc. I was grouped with a buddy and we entered a zone together. Both ended up in different overflow zones as you would expect. I was able to shift to the main zone, but it was over a half hour before he got to shift. Smooth all the way right. I ran into 2 bugged quests in GW2 much faster than I encountered any of the approx 6 bugged quests that you would find on the whole of Solomon Island. So, I feel that evens out pretty well. I was in SWTOR from headstart and really never spent more than a half hour at most in a queue. I was lucky for sure on that, cause those long times were happening to people pretty often.

Yep, you pretty much have to go sideways and explore other areas. There is not enough content in one races set of zones to level up on. My norn is map complete on Wayfarer, Snowden and Hoelbrak and got only to level 22 doing it. I did any DE's I came across, some more than once. The game is content light by zone but travel is easy between them.

Will Guild Wars 2 Get Game of the Year Award
General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 8/27/12 8:51:24 PM
I would think it really depends on how long it takes them to clean up all the bugs in GW2. Nothing is game breaking, but there are so many little things that you run into constantly. Was expecting more polish with how everyone was talking.

One of the things I noticed right away, I've been blowing through the conversations just to get on with things. The extreme level of hand holding means I don't need any info the NPC's might have. Something that did not happen at all with TSW. But, the dialogue was more interesting there as well. I know I will play GW2 off and on for the variety. So far today, I've played it, TSW and even some Gran Turismo 5 on the PS3.

Are "Head Starts" a "Get out of Jail" card for a terrible launch?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 8/25/12 8:13:59 AM
Headstart is the launch of the game in every meaningful way. The game is brought up to be in continual service just like at launch. The only difference is the numbers of people are going to be a little lower on those first days.

[Column] Guild Wars 2: Underwater PvP and the Downed State
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 8/23/12 8:19:13 PM
Haven't gotten to try the underwater combat yet. But, I have to say that I don't feel the downed state adds anything of value to the game. Personally, it annoyed me greatly and I would rather just be dead and respawn. |

I can make it at that time. For those that want into the cabal, I am on most every evening. Hit up Marti with a tell and we'll get you in. Cheers. |

Was wanting to get into a Polaris run tonight as well. Hopefully we can make that happen. |

I'm in for this as well. Looking to be a fun time. |

Just from my own experience, the OP is stretching things a bit with the "10 steps" comment. Will they turn and run back to their spawn point, yes. I haven't been in the actual closed beta, but have participated in all the weekend betas. My character had the accolade for over 1000 zombies killed by the end of the first weekend, just for example. In all that fighting, not once did this 'hard leash' occur to interrupt a combat. It did happen in the third beta weekend when my group was trying to fight the final boss in the first dungeon. At least, that is why we think he reset. |

Why Darkfall Online is the best MMO on the market.

Guess what, Darkfall brings emotions and feelings back to MMO's.
Seriously? You think the mob AI is worthwhile in Darkfall? After spending a good bit of time fighting the gobs and trolls (I think they were trolls, can't remember the specific name, just that they were a tough fight. Could hit darn hard.), I can say that the mob AI is pedestrian at best.. It most reminded me of being back in the original EQ and how the mobs acted in there. Which is appropriate I guess, EQ would have only been a couple years old when they started on this. Just more copying going on. The only emotions Darkfall brought out were boredom and a liberal dose of laughter at their attempt to make a game. And as always, if you are loving it, keep loving it. The best thing any of us can hope for is to find a game that keeps us coming back. I'm still looking. Cheers. |

How about finally getting out of a hell level and then being so nervous about dieing and getting dumped back in to it. Would always go out and be extra careful until I had enough xp buffer to not lose my level. EQ had the death penalty coming at you from all sides, was awesome. |

What was your biggest MMO-fail of 2009?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 12/21/09 5:46:48 PM
I guess I would have to say Darkfall was the worst thing to happen in 2009. I bought it, I played it, I feel like I was duped into financing a development team in bringing their product from late alpha into a proper beta stage. Just for comparison, I was playing Anarchy Online on launch day...well as much as anyone else was able to. This fails just as badly for me. Desolate towns, ugliest trees I've seen in a long time, mob AI that reminded me of being back in good old EQ. Pretty much lameness in all facets of gaming (of which there were really only two, combat and simple crafting). Except for the large amount of nifty left clicking. How can that not get old. But, overall, just one more blot on a poor year for MMO's in general. Hoping there might be something better to come along in the coming year(s). I am planning to go back and see if they have it properly into at least a late beta condition after being "released" for a year. |

Looks like points 1, 2, 3 and 4 are directed at PVP. In the pve portion of the game, they aren't really an issue. 1. I have grouped up for short periods of time to accomplish certain missions, so can't speak to this one. Have never experienced it. Although, even solo, you can get stuck in a mode where you don't regen your health when the fight is over. 2. This must be PVP oriented. As of yet, I haven't encountered a build I would call nonviable. The travel powers all get you from point A to point B faster than if you just run normally. Have to say they are working. 3. This one is good, as I happen to have a guns/dual blades character with swinging as a travel power. Has been working well. At level 15 right now, haven't even seen the need to pick a defensive power yet. Again, op is probably speaking only of PVP. 4. My pure might build melee character is my highest, almost to level 21. And totally rocks. Again, I am sure OP is refering to just the PVP aspect of the game. As far as I know, trying to PVP with pure melee is a bust. 5. Yep, would be nice to have that working. 6. I am okay with this one too. Most games with a tutorial zone/area/experience offer it as an option. I am not knocking his points. I just felt that there needed to be some balance. A lot of what he finds troublesome only exists in the one aspect of the game. For people that are more pve oriented, the first few issues don't really apply to day to day gameplay. |

As a gamer why would I want to install Windows 7?

Normally, I do the same as you, waiting on the current OS until about the second service pack at least. After being in the Win 7 beta for the last 6 months or so, I am seriously considering not waiting on this one. But that is just my opinion. Always go with what feels right to you. |
